EILAT ATTACK

I always enjoy listening to Israeli spokesman Mark Regev and he was on Today this morning. Following the deplorable attack at Eilat, I was pleased to hear Regev make several references to the terrorists from Hamastan who had carried this out. That must have given the BBC apoplexy! Jeremy Al Bowen was also on this segment to give his sage analysis – give it a listen!

Good News

Because of my writings on this blog I am honoured to receive a regular email newsletter called ‘Good news From Israel’ . It’s compiled by Michael Ordman who is now a contributor to JPost.
Israel’s acheivements and innovations are too numerous to mention, and far more newsworthy that the Israel-related stories that have to be negative to qualify for a mention on the BBC.
So here is a link, and here is another. Check them out, BBC. You might learn something.

THE MOSSAD MENACE

Having spent yesterday spinning the unemployment figures for Labour, today the BBC is obsessing on those evil Jews, Mossad in particular. How dare they kill cherubic vacationing Hamas warlords! Something must be done. I heard Hague being interviewed just after 8am and his responses were pretty pathetic as the BBC did everything possible to get him to condemn Israel. What he should have done was congratulate whoever killed the Hamas monster holed up in Dubai and then sat back and watched the BBC faces fill up in anger. Hamas seek the destruction of Israel and have engaged in the casual killing of innocent men, women and children. The fact that that Hamas are a bunch of anti-semitic genocidal killers is of little interest to the BBC. The main issue is the actions of the shadowy Mossad and in that regard the BBC are determined to hold them to account.

Eats, shoots and leaves

I commented in the open thread about mistakes and shoddy editing. Here’s one.

‘Six Palestinians killed in West bank, Gaza attacks’

Was this responsible for another piece of carelessness that shows how one thing can lead to an other?

“Israel yesterday shot dead six Palestinians in two separate incidents in the West Bank”

It appeared in an anti-Israel editorial in the Observer the next day.

Of course the two incidents were separate, but one was in the West Bank, the other in the Gaza strip, and a comma is different from a forward slash. But if I’m right, it suggests that carelessness, combined with agenda-driven churnalism is alive and well, and that some of us don’t bother to read beyond a headline.

Via a number of blogs, including the excellent Augean Stables, from figures discussed here, the casualty “footprints” of two ongoing conflicts. The BBC is obsessed with one of these conflicts. Can you guess which?

As one blogger says:

“My only hope is that, forty years from now, this scandal will be seen as a problem of the past. As a symptom of the problems of a society -our developed one- that, with time, changed for better. I hope to talk about it to my grandsons in the same way afroamerican grandparents talk nowadays about Rosa Parks. Like talking about an evident problem that finally, one day, one person dared to face. And changed for good.”

THAT ISRAELI ELECTION.

Well then, today Israel goes to the polsl and the BBC nightmare of a Likud win draws closer by the hour. If you want a laugh, read their live coverage of events here. We have charmers such as Lyse Douchet and Wyre Davies expressing surprise that instead of a lacklustre turnout, we could see a record turn-out. Who would have imagined that then? I see several BBC pundits trying to spin things for a surprise Kadima win – we’ll see. One thing is for certain, if Netanyahu does manage to win – he will become the new international hate figure now that Bush is gone and you can be sure the BBC will try to undermine him from the start. Given BBC visceral hatred towards Israel, manifest in Abu Bowen’s latest propaganda last night on BBC1 as blogged by Sue, there really is a case for banning the BBC from Israel since it actively seeks to undermine this beacon of democracy in the sea of surrounding Arab darkness.

Hypocrite’s Cakewalk

Sarah Montague surpassed herself the other day with her barely concealed contempt for Israel’s spokesman Mark Regev. This brought home the fact that it is now the norm to hate Israel, and that hatred has come to include Britain’s Jews. Melanie Phillips has an alarming article which has attracted some suitably alarming comments.

The ever-increasing acceptability of antisemitic slurs and insinuations by all and sundry is in stark contrast to the hypocritical BBC furore over perceived racism inherent in the word golliwog.

Over the years the BBC has whipped up the public into a frenzy of righteous indignation. They portrayed recent events in Gaza in the uniquely emotive way that always accompanies anything to do with Israel.

Honest reporting has this review. The BBC is not the only offender, but it is probably the most influential, and it is the one that want us to believe it’s impartial.

This is my first post, so please forgive any peculiarities.

The trouble with those people is they think they can do whatever they want.

“Can Israel do whatever it wants?”

That’s the headline on today’s World Have Your Say, presented by the BBC. I haven’t got time to go into all the buried assumptions and question-begging this choice of headline embodies. It’s designed to draw forth either the answer “Yes – because the world will not stop these maniacs” or “No – the world must stop these maniacs”.

LIFELESS IN GAZA

Glad to see that Israel has finally responded to the endless rocketing from Hamas but as you can imagine, the BBC is outraged. Israeli F-16 bombers have pounded key targets across the Gaza Strip, killing at least 225 people, “local medics” say. Most of those killed were “policemen” in the Hamas militant (aka terrorist) movement, which controls Gaza, but women and children also died, the Gaza “officials” said. The entire emphasis of the BBC report is aimed at painting Israel as the aggressors, the bad guys, and I note that the predictably pro-Palestinian babble from Ban ki-Moon is also faithfully recorded. The UN, the BBC, all mouthpieces for rampant Palestinian propaganda – and now all outraged when Israel finally moves to crush Hamas killers.
