BIASED BBC

I wanted to bring you up to date with where my thinking is on the topic of the “Biased BBC” Book. I seek to have the manuscript completed by the end of this year!

That’s a lot of work to do so I have a few requests to make;

1. To get the book completed, I HAVE to ease off on the blogging, esp at weekends. But I want the site to keep on moving, as S Club 7 would say! So, that means it would be helpful if existing writers could produce a bit more and if there are any other people who would like to post here, please please contact me. Best use the email me on A Tangled Web feature! Don’t hold back if you think you could post some copy – the more the merrier.
2. Once I have completed the book, I need help in terms of how I should then go about getting it designed and published, marketed and supported. I want this to be the definitive book on BBC bias and there is just SO much material that it’s a bit overwhelming but I want the final book to get as much distribution and profile as possible. If anyone thinks they could help here, again please drop me a line. If we could launch in Spring 2010 – before the GE – that might be good. My experience is that publishing books takes quite a long time however, so I am not tying myself down to a given schedule. My priority is to do as good a job as I can in writing it and beyond that, I will need help. I trust you can all advise and direct me.
That’s it on this for the moment but please get in touch directly with me if you want to help on either point raised!

THE FIRST MARTYR OF BIASED BBC!

It’s quite interesting. Up until the point where I assumed most of the posting here on Biased BBC , I had a regular spot on the local BBC main politics programme here called “Hearts and Minds”. I had three minutes to provide my views on the political week – and as you might imagine, I tended to present a rather different view to the usual in-crowd right-on hacks that are used. Being right of liberal, resolutely anti-terrorist, pro-USA, anti-EU, pro capitalism and anti-Statism, I was the proverbial square peg in a round BBC hole. But the invites started to dry up as this blog has gained momentum and it looks to me that I have been dropped from programme. Cue cheer-leading from all my detractors here in Northern Ireland! I have become a B-BBC martyr and it’s all thanks to you!!! Here’s the way I look on it. I am fortunate enough not to require one penny from the BBC, unlike certain other “commentators” who seem to pop up on a continual basis. I also am determined that I will write the Biased BBC book oft talked about here and publish it this year. So in order for me to do this, I need to blog less so I can write more. So if you notice a drop off in my posts that’s the reason. I might take weekends off to write so there may be less posts from me at that time. Someone needs to nail the BBC and it may as well be us – so with your encouragement and help I will do it. Look on this as a statement of intent.

AS THE YEAR DRAWS TO A CLOSE…

Just wanting to take a quiet moment this morning and wish everyone on Biased BBC a Happy New Year. Thanks for all your support in 2008 and I look forward with vigour to 2009. My clear objective next year is to get the Biased BBC book published and tomorrow, on January 1st, I have made plans to start that process! Here’s to a great year exposing the BBC bias and making a real difference. The floor is yours, as ever!

A BIASED BBC ANNOUNCEMENT.

It’s not so long ago that I put up a post asking for your favourite/most infamous example of BBC bias. The response was excellent and prolific and inspired an idea that I now wish to share with you.

It is our intention to publish a book which details in glorious technicolour the BBC bias we talk about here on a daily basis. Provisionally entitled “The Little Book of BBC Bias” the aim is to take twelve killer topics and demonstrate in an authoritative, detailed and excoriating manner the bias the BBC exudes. YOU will have a role to play in this since many of the best observations of BBC bias come from your side of things rather than from your humble correspondent. I will detail shortly how you can do this – and we will organise around each key topic. The book will allow us to get the topic of BBC bias to a wider audience, raise the profile of Biased BBC, and further the entire debate.

We have been working in the background on the mechanics of this exciting project and there are two challenges we have to face. The first is cost, the second quality content. We want this to be a well presented and well written book with a definitive take on the BBC. The archives of this site, combined with your own detailed referenced suggestions, and a sprinkle of some of my own thoughts, will deliver the content. The cost is the other issue! To complete the project – which we have costed – we need to raise 5k. I will shortly publish a PAYPAL contribution button for you to use on this site if you wish. I will also provide details as to how cheques for the project can be sent. I hope you think this is an evolution worth supporting since it will bring the best of this site into the published form and open up a new front on the BBC. I hope you are enthused by this project and look forward to your thoughts to follow. We ARE going to do this – hope you can be part of the team in nailing BBC bias in ALL it’s awful detail! I look forward to the BBC reviewing our book.
