They also point out that, for all the media hysteria, a grand total of one or two windows were broken in DC. And they contrast that with the months of real violence and destruction from the left that the same media played down or condoned; and the occupation of civic buildings encouraged by Democrat politicians.

That sentence was the introduction to this column on May 12, 2010, as Gordon Brown clung to office in a last-ditch attempt to stop David Cameron becoming Prime Minister.
So before we get too self-righteous over the outrageous attempts by Donald Trump and his supporters to overturn democracy in America, let’s not kid ourselves that it could never happen here.
In May 2010, five days after Britain resoundingly rejected Labour at the ballot box, I wrote: ‘Gordon Brown is trying to steal the outcome of last week’s General Election, which he lost by a margin of two million votes and 60 seats.’
Brown simply refused to accept the result. In a desperate attempt to stop the Tories forming a government he offered the Lib Dems a deal which would involve him remaining Prime Minister until the Labour conference that autumn. After which, of course, there was nothing to stop him standing again.
Labour’s very own Proud Boys, Peter Mandelson and Alastair Campbell, were given free rein on the airwaves to claim the Tories had actually lost the election and what the people had really voted for was a ‘progressive alliance’ between parties of the Left. The BBC was only too happy to perpetuate this scandalous perversion of the truth.
Yes, David Cameron’s party had fallen a whisker short of an overall majority. But the Tories had won 306 seats to Labour’s 258 — and even with Lib Dem support Brown still wouldn’t have been able to command a majority.
In the event, Brown had to be dragged out of Downing Street, clinging on by what was left of his fingernails, when Nick Clegg’s Lib Dems declined to play ball and opted to go into coalition with the Tories.
For the previous couple of years, I’d been warning that regardless of the eventual result of the election, Brown would refuse to resign.
(And don’t forget, in 2017, Jeremy Corbyn claimed victory despite trailing the Tories by 56 seats.)
So Trump’s recent behaviour, however predictable and anti-democratic, is not exactly without precedent on this side of the pond. There are other similarities, too.
Even if Brown’s attempt to subvert democracy failed, it was merely the warm-up act for what was to come after the 2016 EU referendum.
For three-and-a-half unrelenting years, the losing Remain side refused to accept the result and moved heaven and earth to overturn it, even alleging Russian interference. They went to court repeatedly to try to Stop Brexit.
Pro-EU demonstrators set up permanent camp outside Parliament. If they didn’t actually invade the building itself, it was only because they didn’t have to.
The Palace of Westminster had already been occupied by MPs and unelected peers determined to prevent the UK leaving the EU, aided and abetted by a partisan Speaker who held the British people in utter contempt. And if that wasn’t another attempted coup, I don’t know what is.
The Washington Establishment behaved just as badly in refusing to accept the legitimacy of Trump’s presidency. It, too, has tried every means available to remove him, up to and including impeachment.
I know many are incandescent, horrified and disgusted with rage, at old Trumpy, but when I hear about another of his antics, I just burst out laughing. He’s like one of those bottom-of-the-birdcage rocking toys that wont lie down, he’s got everyone up in arms and clearly in his element in doing it. I cant wait to see what he’ll do next.

Yes, I’m certainly not advocating any reckless behaviour. I’m not keen on crowds and fanatical about hand washing, so I should be finding lockdowns easier than some. However, I do think we’re becoming unhealthily obsessed with our health, if that makes any sense.
I think the masks make people feel safe, rather than achieve anything. But they’re also a constant reminder that we’re living through a plague…which we’re not… And I find them quite alienating. The sooner people feel they can throw them away the better.
You need a full respirator such as I used to wear in large decommissioned fuel tanks or N95 grade filtration.
Cloth masks allow smoke, perfume, vape particles to enter. The virus is aerosol and much smaller.
Worried you may contaminate some one else? Don’t get too close, don’t cough, spit or sneeze without using a handkerchief or tissue and wash you hands. Basis old school hygiene.
Could it be that by ‘flattening the curve’, i.e. not spreading the virus, we have allowed it space to mutate?

Finishing off Chapter 8 of the book The War Against The BBC .
Under a title News-watch’s Founders , Funders and fellow travellers,
We get ‘ Kathy Gygnell also co founded and co-edits the Conservative Woman website, which regularly attacks the BBC alongside other familiar targets — the Guardian, the EU , climate change activists , political correctness and so on .’
Further on we get ‘ These include Arron Banks , the Brexit bad boy – whose Leave EU website encouraged visitors to send it donations-‘
There’s several sentences in the chapter (and have been in previous chapters and probably in future chapters ) mentioning people or organisations as though they are wrong for existing , and thus we get denunciation by association, as though Migration Watch is sinister because there is a tenuous link to ardent EUrosceptic MPs and vice versa .
We can see how the authors believe any organisation or person that is not a BBC supporter is tarnished- in the author’s eyes- for not supporting the BBC .
We can see the political sympathies of the authors, and as they are one and the same as the BBCs we can see why they hate criticism of it .
Under the same heading where they attack this site — note I use the word attack rather than criticise, a trait the book uses — the authors mention the Daily Mail . You can guess their attitude to the Daily Mail = BBC favourite Marcus Brigstoke’s attitude to the Daily Mail. This is the paragraph;
To judge by the comments on these sites and channels, and those responding to articles attacking [that word again] Britain is full of people who really hate the BBC and are furious about what they claim are its abuses . But these comments are hard to evaluate directly. How representative are they really ? What are they’re origins and real motives ? Shouldn’t journalists writing a book find out ? Or would they rather not and imply something sinister is going on ?
Next chapter , 9 is titled Bolshevism ‘ , Brexit and Bias .

Fed, a bot is interwebby slang for a ‘robot post’ on a web-site or web forum. There are computer programmes that can be directed to specifically trawl around the internet and either post ‘spam’ or overload a site with posts to clog it up. Then there are the security agencies with their ‘watching bots’, probably reading this reply intended to help you out!

Actually they are recognised. One w-s of my acquaintance list the registered members signed in on-line and also provides the numbers of bots. The bots usually outnumber the members.

The books hard going through because I’m doing a line by line critique and it’s nearly every sentence.

I m guessing the conclusion of the book is that we are lucky to have the best broadcaster in the world and should be paying double the licence fee… but is that a spoiler alert ?..

I don’t know the conclusion of the book yet as I’m tying up reading it as I critique it , but I doubt either of us would take a bet on the conclusion.
If 20,000 fans of Liverpool FC were to post comments about it wouldn’t they tend to use the same phrases too? It’s the same with any subject, the ‘jargon’ if you like.
One didn’t have to listen to many episodes of Radio 4’s Feedback to note that 90% of the BBC producers on the programme used variants of ‘we think we got it about right’. As to BBC News, where would they be without ‘some say’?

Help! perhaps I am a bot. Is there any way to tell for certain?
Two things I noted today,
1, Whilst listening to Nicky Campbell on 5 nearly alive, (all right I know I shouldn’t, but it’s the only station I can get in Northern France), he had on somebody who sounded like a scouser but said he was from Bolton, railing about kids being back at school, he was sounding off about essential workers blah,blah. On completion NC said George wasn’t the real name of the caller! FFS why would anyone who is on the left use a fake name?
2.An advert for BBC iplayer airing at the moment is for all episodes of The Fresh Princeof Bel Air, and Man like Morbeen Should call it BBC ibameplayer
Despite all the promises and threats the illegals are still invading.
This Tory Government is nothing but an utter shambles of false promises . How long have we got to endure them ?
Al Beeb is being allowed to continue, its almost as if its with the Tory support ?
When and if, and that’s a big ‘IF’ we have another election, remember, this time vote for The Reform Party . Are we fast becoming a police state?……………..

Not just the really bad policing in Derbyshire, example of which I posted earlier, but I gather Cressida Dick and Sadiq Khan have had a little gettogether and decided that in the Metropolitan Police area, being outside without a mask is an offence against Lockdown rules and worthy of a fine.

Some voters may look at this association as a positive?
Farage did a good job against the ‘Meeja’ in the lead up to the Brexit Vote and a jolly good job when in the EU Parliament . Have a look a his performances in the archived videos on YouTube .
I hope Farage won’t disown him as so many others are doing.

No evidence provided but stated as fact.

trump seems to have strong input into his speeches
