That system worked fine when everyone in the town knew the candidates. As towns became cities it became simpler to use political parties as a proxy for what each candidate stood for and that began to break the democratic process.
Democracy works fine when the people are as one, they don’t get upset if their preferred candidate doesn’t win.
Multiculturism means there can no longer be one people. Historically we have seen that in Northern Ireland, two peoples with two traditions, the losers in any election will never be happy.
Import people with different cultures and different religions and ‘the British’ will never be one again. In WW2 all of Britain was united against the Germans, during ‘the troubles’ my Irish landlady, as nice a person as you could wish, who had lived two-thirds of her life in London, could never bring herself to condemn the London bombings. Similarly Muslims born and bred in the UK in small numbers carry out acts of terrorism against fellow Britons and in larger numbers cannot bring themselves to condemn their actions.
The people are divided by the importation of aliens and alien ideas. There is no reason why the new inhabitants of these isles will ever be one again. To do that Mohamad would have to cease to be Muslim and Pakistani and Abdul, Black and Somali.
Strangely though, as the people become more ‘diverse’ the politicians become more the same.

never heard of her and it seems her whole raison d’etre is to race bait and bang on about ‘whiteness’ and white privilege..she even thinks it is funny and okay to approach strangers and ‘interrogate them’ about their whiteness..Kirsty Wark also thinks it is funny especially when it is men she interrogates..
What a crock of Shite – how is is that if I as a white man started approaching Black person and interrogated them about their Blackness I would be arrested but she is a held up as some intellectual?

If you add up the on screen/ on radio work actually done by George Alagiah, Laura Kuennsberg, and James Naughtie would you get to a full-time 37ish hour week?
You would however get to a combined publicised salary of around £800,000 !!!!
Which gives me the idea that they have reduced the overall headline pay rates for publicity reasons, and the quid pro quo is to introduce part time/ minimum hours contracts, allowing their employees to dash off for more of their lucrative private work.
I have no proof of this , but it would explain the observable facts. And it is not unknown elsewhere in the ‘underpaid’ public sector.
Many (most?) NHS consultants have a fine track record for this. All those private hospitals just conveniently down the road from the NHS one are not there by accident.
And to make it even easier some NHS hospitals have private wings…..

JA, except if you look at the BBC web-site and the front pages of the newspapers as well, in both are featured helpless women. The BBC web-site last week, re-featured a young lady in a most unflattering photo who had made 280 job applications before being successful. Yesterday, one of the Sunday papers had a front page photo ‘taster’ of some TV celeb (was it Susanna Reid?) who has been ‘helpless’ or ‘hopeless’ over something.
It is a bizarre disconnect in both broadcast and print media. Pushing the ‘new feminism’ all the time but then finding all sorts of women failures about the place.
No wonder young girls in the UK are said to have massive anxiety and mental health problems.
Up2 if it was Suzanna Reid then I would say she is still hopeless and helpless and gets grossly overpaid for it.

The ‘Film Programme’ last night was another which has all but eliminated men on a regular basis (although last night we dipped into black film -no, not film noir.) Francine Stock and Antonia Quirk present, so no men please.
And there are many others. Poetry presenters have to be either women or people ‘of colour’, preferably both.

Sophists swelled with insolent conceit-This surely must be aimed at the controllers of our Television viewing, and also at those that produce, and those that deign to present such awful programmes, that we the viewers are expected to meekly accept. Of course it is appreciated the pressure applied from the commercial world upon this most powerful of media, however we can’t help but ask as to whether all is being served for the minority and not the true majority.

Just after 07:00 this morning on the ‘Today’ programme, an article on the ‘Emmy Awards’ (TV luvvies airkissing each others’ arrises – but remotely this year).
Four comments by host and ‘guests’ in the article, and, would you believe it, in the few seconds that the BBC played from each person’s ‘contributions’ to the event, every one of them contained an explicit or implicit dig at President Trump (and hardly anything else) – one of the contributors (a Brit) even managed a dig at both President Trump and Boris Johnston.
Sort of gives the game away about ‘glitterati’, and their hangers-on like the BBC being in the slightest bit impartial – and especially the BBC, since it could have chosen any elements of the speeches – and especially, given the occasion, maybe even a bit of commentary on the TV programmes/’personalities’ who won awards.
‘Twas ever thus, and ever after shall be…’ with the BBC – media at it’s so-called ‘best’.

I was equally astounded last night when watching the 100 best musicals (I only watched from no.10 downwards), and admittedly the programme was made in 2003, but how in hells name could GREASE be in the number 1 spot ????

At least it was better than Grease 2! Michelle Pfeiffer hated that movie and she was in it!
I actually like Grease for nostalgic reasons (in all my years of movie going, it’s the only true blockbuster I ever saw, i.e. we queued around the block to get in) but even I’ll concede it’s not a great film. For one thing, its female lead is Olivia Newton-John, once described by a critic as “three of the worst actresses in history.”
As for Jodie Whittaker, I assume she got the Doctor Who gig because she was previously in Chris Chibnall’s Broadchurch alongside Tennant.
Just randomly joining some dots here, but actors sometimes get roles in the same genres – e.g. John Boyega was cast in Star Wars because the director liked him in British sci-fi Attack The Block. Boyega’s co-star in that was. . . Jodie Whittaker.

As a rule I’m not a massive fan of musicals, usually they seem bloody daft. However, I could always spare a couple of hours to watch My Fair Lady, surely the finest of them all. It’s fabulous from start to finish. I think the songs are beyond compare.
And of course it has the delightful Audrey Hepburn.

Well, there were the usual ‘greats’ in the top 10 – West Side Story, Mary Poppins, Singing in the Rail, Oliver, Sound of Music, Wizard of Oz. My personal favourite is Streisand in Funny Girl, the songs are sublime; but to put Newton John and Travolta ahead of Gene Kelly or Judy Garland was a travesty.
Singin’ in the Rain is one of my top 5 movies of all time.
When it was released in April 1952, its competiton at the US box-office was:
The Greatest Show on Earth; The African Queen; With a Song in my Heart; Viva Zapata!; Rancho Notorious; High Noon; and a re-issue of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
All are films still watched today and several are bona fide classics.
How long would it take today’s Hollywood to make that amount of films of the same quality and longevity?

However it was noticeable that despite both these gentlemen having impressive medical credentials that one or both claimed that the Covid formerly known as 19 was a seasonal disorder which is NOT what the evidence from around the globe confirms.
You may know that here in Sunderland were in a sort of half lockdown because of the rising number of cases being found.
A caller on bbbc radio newcastle asked why newspapers and investigative reporters were not trying to find out why the media are reporting 3-4K new cases each day but not comparing this number to the earlier case numbers where a few thousand were tested daily compared to some 200,000 daily now.
He said had we been testing the same number then that we are now we would have had a huge number of cases then and said if he could see this why not the media and why were they not questioning these numbers.
I googled for the last covid death in the Sunderland area and the most recent death I could find was JUNE 21.
I suppose they will say the deaths are lagging behind the cases by a few weeks.
I doubt that we’ll see a big jump in deaths.
Yet, we’re in semi lockdown.

I have received an email alert from an outfit called Citizen Go who campaign for free speech and traditional family values.
They say that there is to be an independent “Supreme Court” set up to monitor posts on Facebook with the power to force Facebook to remove any they do not like..
They also claim that of the 20 or so candidates being considered for this Court, 18 are directly connected to George Soros and his foundations.
Their role will be to monitor posts and force Facebook to remove anything that they don’t like the look of.
Facebook will have no say in this as they will be forced by law to comply.
If true, this is the most outrageous and dangerous attack on Democracy and Free Speech in history.
This court will of course only begin with Facebook and I believe they will then spread it to include all social networks and eventually all information however disseminated.
The end game quite obviously being to impose their Globalist doctrine which as well as suppression of free speech also includes abortion on demand, euthanasia without permission, border-free migration as a right, and the promotion of LGBT propaganda through schools and higher education.

As they say ‘here we go again’, this Government medical chappy Dr Whitty, is now putting forward fears for another lockdown. Irrespective this nation cannot afford another lockdown no matter what. The powers that be, will have to impress upon the public that they must use common sence, (something they are not used to doing) otherwise-and that perhaps could be used as a threat. I was watching the BBC tv news at one o’clock.
They had a long feature about the snoozefest which was the Emmy awards. Does anyone care?
The awards were given remotely. I don’t know how many, dozens I should think. Out of all these awards, the one the BBC chose to carry on their report was one given to a well off left wing ponce in London. He proceeded to “unthank” the following:
1. The Corona Virus;
2. President Trump for his crummy handling of the Corona Virus;
3. Boris Johnson for being equally as bad as President Trump.
Wasn’t that a weird coincidence? No evidence of any sort of left wing BBC hive mind bias there at all. The new DG is doing such a good job isn’t he?
