Midweek Thread 16 September 2020

The BBC Annual Report is published . Maybe the new Director General will give interviews about the biased anti British BBC And its’ future ? Certainly the BBC website has chirped about the £12.88 a week the taxpayer must pay each week for its’ output. To some £12.88 might not be much per week . But on a ‘full’ State pension of £175.20- that is 7% of a persons’ income demanded by the BBC – which has expressed an aim to appeal to the ‘younger’ person! .

Such a funding model can’t be justified – even without the Woke Mission the BBC has undemocratically given itself – if there is no representation – there should be no taxation – defund the BBC

I noted al-beeb’s breathlessly excited reporting about how before the American football matches on the weekend something called the “Black National Anthem” was played before the National Anthem of the United States of America was played.

That got me to thinking so I looked up “National Anthem” in the Oxford English Dictionary (OED).

    I found the following:

NATIONAL AMTHEM – a solemn patriotic song adopted by a country as an expression of national identity.

This got me to wondering. One would think that in order to have a “National Anthem”, one would have to be an independent country – as the OED notes.

    Have I missed something?

Is there some new Black Nation?

Just to touch on a few aspects of nationhood …

When did they achieve nationhood? Where is this nation located? What does their flag look like?

    What is their national language?

What forces do they have to secure and defend their national sovereignty? Do they have a standing military, or are they demilitarised like Costa Rica?

Are they members of the UN? Which other nations do they have diplomatic relations with?

What economic system do they practice? Capitalism? Scandinavian-style Socialism? Venezuelan-style Socialism? Communism? Bartering? Subsistence? Who owns the means of production?

What is the main component of their economy? What do they produce? Are they a manufacturing economy? A service economy? Is the economy a laissez faire economy or a welfare state economy?

Do they have Free Trade Agreements with other nations or do they trade on WTO terms?

    What is their currency?

What are their laws regarding property rights?

    Who are their leaders?

Who is the Head of State? Is the Head of State the same person as the Head of Government? Who is their President or Premier or whatever they call their leader?

What sort of system of governance do they practice? A dictatorship? A monarchy? A plutocracy? A “democracy”? A republic? Mob rule? Do they have some sort of national legislature?

So many questions, so few answers …

Dobyns – Is there not a suitable continent about somewhere, a rather large one with over 50 (black) nations, that those who do not feel at home in GB or the US, could emigrate to? (They even have their own anthems).
Apparently there is no great enthusiasm so to do. Sometimes, one wonders why?

Interesting but not unexpected that the Beeb has relegated illegal migrants crossing The Channel to local news….’A total of 12 boats carrying 165 migrants attempting to cross the English Channel in one day have been intercepted by Border Force officials’.
This was on Monday apparently. I’m guessing because they were not ‘record’ numbers there is nothing to report and it does not fit with the Beebs agenda.

What many people do not realise is that these illegals are not just using the rubber dingy route but are still entering the UK via ports, mainly located on the South coast. Lorries are the favourite at the moment.
A local port near me and in the South(and it’s not Dover) has discovered/located at least 20 illegals so far in September. That’s just one port. That’s those that have been discovered as the objective of most of these people is not to be found.
All young men under the age of 25, the youngest aged 13. All the minors go off to Social Services, thus putting them under increasing pressure.
Where are they from ? Afghanistan 3500 miles away and Sudan, over 4000 miles. Looking at a map that’s probably 8 or so countries to travel through to reach our welcoming shores.
What on earth is going on ? We seem totally impotent to deal with this, empathy or not. I really am expecting our little island to start sinking soon.

And about 20% of that month’s poll tax is going to pay for pensions and benefits for employees in local authorities, so I suppose, that a similar amount is being put by for beeboids to live a life of luxury when they get kicked out!

No wonder they’re scared chitless about having to go subscription only! They’ll have to pay for their own old age…

And, the TV tax is paid for from earned income after personal income tax – another travesty because we all pay for the whole shebang anyway, despite the extra money demanded by goons from crapita.

An old chum once told me that he could regularly buqqer up any direct debit to anyone, by adding just one penny to the sum demanded. That meant all sorts of letters and un-returned phone calls etc., (pre email days), but as he’d offered to pay more, by that penny, they got several knickers in a twist at the same time, and eventually vanished up their own metaphors!

Might just look at that little scenario again…

its called Judge Romesh and he says words to the effect ” if you do not get the idea maybe TV is not for you”

typical of the snide type of efnic comedy : you are thick

whereas I would have replied that if you do not understand English sufficiently to realise the word “judge” can be both a noun and a verb, therefore rendering the title of your programme ambiguous …maybe English TV is not for you

    maybe you are thick

I noticed another nasty snidey one Richard Ayoade who seems to spend most of his time denigrating others:

The comedian then steadfastly refused to plug the book, dodged the presenter’s questions, and instead asked some of his own. When a flustered Guru-Murthy wrapped things up, Ayoade murmured: “Don’t thank me, I’ve done nothing for you.”

One viewer said: “Eh this is the first #travelman where the humour’s slipped too close to being rude to locals for me.”

Similarly, another added: “Used to really like #travelman but Richard and guest always come across as so rude to whoever is showing them around. It was never like this in the earlier episodes.”

One irritated audience member argued: “We live in #Croatia & found the #Dubrovnik episode of #travelman to be utterly disrespectful. Croatia is a beautiful, welcoming country steeped in history & deserves so much better exposure than this trite s**t. Awful episode with two *celebrities* who did themselves no favours.”

Perhaps this is why, an extract from today’s Speccie –

      Stockholm
‘We have an obvious problem,’ admitted the Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven recently. He was referring not to the Covid pandemic, but to a summer of crime that has left even jaded Swedes reeling in disbelief. There are regular bombings, hand grenade attacks and shootings. Young men are killing each other at a horrific rate — ten times that of Germany. The feeling is growing that the government has completely lost control. Yet, while Löfven has finally acknowledged the existence of the problem, he still seems in denial about its true nature.

“It is all too much for Mats Löfving, the deputy national police chief, who earlier this month decided to speak plainly about the nature of the criminals he and his colleagues are fighting. There are at least 40 family-based criminal networks — or clans — in Sweden, he confirmed: immigrants who came to the country ‘solely for the purpose of organising and systematising crime’. According to Löfving, they make their money through drug-trafficking and extortion and ‘have a great capacity for violence’.“

Doesn’t Al Beeb always hold up socialist Sweden as the earthly Utopia?

      Re evidence of Covid .
My priest showed signs of fever in April and I suggested he swerve the Mass and get checked . That night he was in the intensive care ward – there on a respirator for a week . He is still weak 5 months after surviving .

Whilst visiting a Cemetary I met a chap – who is coloured – who told me his story . From health to deaths door overnight . In March before it was fully recognised . He is about 45 and I guess – generally healthy – anyway – 4 weeks on a ventilator . Weeks in hospital – then 12 weeks isolation at home – visited and checked every day . He said it has changed him and is not healthy any more .

My conclusion is – best avoided.
But I’m a bit different when it comes to avoiding the hazard –
I think ventilation is as important as distancing –
So confinement with a lot of people is best avoided .

By the way – I think I may have had a mild version already – which is odd for me because when I get something like flu it knocks me out for a couple of weeks minimum

Saying all that – I think we have to just wash hands and maintain precautions – and get on with stuff . However being an involuntary observer of human behaviour I see less distancing now – which may well explain the rise detected infections – but not the reduction – thankfully – in deaths .

Next week I’m returning to blighty for a few weeks and dreading the airport – plane – public tube transport and the 2 weeks house arrest again . But that’s my bed to lie in…

I have friends who had friends who have died, Mr D has a couple of friends who were very poorly (one in hospital for 6 weeks] and I have two friends whose daughters were so poorly that even after 20 weeks or so they still find stair climbing and childcare difficult. But all were at the start of the pandemic, nothing recently.

I am going out carefully, hopefully behind the curve.

Late to the game but welcome nonetheless the Daily Telegraph is at last reporting what our Nige was telling us weeks ago – Jamie Johnson is the brave journo who dares to paddle in waters other mainstreamers fear to tread: ‘Escorted across the Channel by French navy. I saw the patrol boat approach the migrant dinghy, then shepherd it into British waters’

This provocation is delivered together with a large front page picture of happy looking fighting age new recruits to the ranks of our off-the-books economy. Keep trying to ignore it, Boris.

If that doesn’t have the shires spluttering marmalade and damning the Frogs this morning then a glance toward the bottom of the Telegraph’s cover surely will bring on the breakfast coronary: ‘Barbados to remove Queen as head of state’.

The Mail has lost its way mid-Channel. Editorial leadership of Geordie Greig gives us the misguided ‘Get Britain tested’ campaign. An anti-Boris quote on Wuhan Flu: ‘Boris: We’ve failed’ And a Guardian-style female celeb tale of angst: ‘Loose Women star Andrea: Stress left me suicidal’ – sort yourself out luv & move on. We’ll move on…

The Labour paper the Mirror goes all in on this latest testing obsession: ‘Tories aren’t testing’ – one continues to be confused by the political slant given to the Oriental Lurgies – if it’s all the same to you lot at the Mirror, if I want a medical procedure (by the way, in this case I don’t), I’ll have it done by a medic – not interested if it’s by a Tory, or a Socialist, thank you very much.

The Guardian, dismayed by Brexit, depressed by Tory election wins and frankly aghast at the sheer misogyny and racism of it all, simply pulls the duvet cover over its head and refuses to move – and advises its readers (or should I say followers?) to think likewise: ‘Thousands of teachers forced to stay at home amid lack of testing’ – there’s a pun there somewhere involving teachers and dodgy testing but the Guardian’s lethargy is rubbing off on me and I couldn’t be bothered.

The ‘i’ joins in with the oppositional threat which the teacher unions are calling “lockdown by default” with the explicit headline ultimatum: ‘Schools will close without virus tests’ – as I’ve said before, I have little sympathy for Boris on this one. He needs to be brave enough to U-turn on lockdown. If he fears public opinion it’s his own fault for frightening the bejesus out of us in the first instance.

By the way, it wasn’t a proper test but the ‘i’ reminds us England lost the cricket to the Aussies: ‘England caught cold’ – oh the irony.

I’m warming to the ‘i’, their minor headlines can be intriguing: ‘Guinness world records picture special. Including the world’s shortest bus driver’ – I think it was Joyce Grenfell who did the comic monologes with the character who drove a taxi with the big ears. Now that is one for the teenagers. Anyway, a picture paints a thousand words and our minds are set to rest – in the ‘i’ story it’s not a short bus, the driver was indeed a midget.

Apropos of that last joke the Express carries a report headlined: ‘It’s no woke! We censor ourselves say comedy giants’

The Times notices: ‘Push to defund BBC’ – there’s a campaign the Mail ought to be pushing.

In the same broadsheet we get wind of: ‘War crimes in Syria’ – seems Turkish-backed forces fighting Assad are torturing and raping the Kurds. Let’s see our liberal press reach for their cherished International Law.

The Metro brings news of: ‘Terror swoop sparks M-way chaos. Thousands held up in 10 hour delays’ – what, traffic delays, despite Brexit?

Two contenders for the “and finally” both from the Daily Star.

Who wouldn’t acknowledge the Force in the headline: ‘Luke, I am your window cleaner. Darth Vader gets a proper job’

And then from the decidedly dark side: ‘Dennis Nilsen: My psychic dog knew I was a wrong ‘un’

The Sun’s headline was about the black woman soccer star
“Ex-England ace Alex Scott poised ‘to replace Sue Barker on Question of Sport’

The new headline removed the word poised, as if it has been confirmed.

IMHO it’s good to not get stale by doing some rotation and giving people like her a chance.
but the way it’s been handled looks bad and tokenism.

Like why wouldn’t you announce a roster of hosts and have a friendly handover ?

        @COLRICHARDKEMP

Anyone tempted to believe Biden & Pelosi have any understanding of NI peace agreement might like to look at fellow-traveller John Kerry’s 2016 iron prophecy on a different peace process. Remarkably, made years after being proved wrong by Egypt & Jordan peace treaties with Israel.

The reality of course is these people do not value the [Good Friday] agreement; they are trying to use it as a weapon to threaten violence against the UK. Their aim remains to either reverse Brexit, break up the UK or severely damage our economy, in that order.

If you’re expecting the Democrats to take control of the White House and House of Representatives after the coming election and come riding to your rescue like the 7th Cavalry, don’t hold your breath.

Truly, is that best they can come up with? Reflection a moment-only 4% of the UK population is black and about 9% Asian. So having this black woman, pleasant as I sure she is, is not fully representing the majority of white people in the UK. Would a white woman be placed in such a programme in say, Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, or in Trinadad? Of course we know the answer to that, so why here? To placate the blacks-or to further subjugate the indigenous folk to thinking they don’t signify anymore?

On the basis that hereabouts is where we vent…
Mr AsISeeIt has a penchant for collecting old postcards of historic interest (not the sort you’re probably imagining).

Making a single purchase at a popular e-commerce site from a seller in the States for a modest $40 this collector waited patiently for the arrival of a small postcard-sized stiffened envelope.

Imagine my surprise at receiving an email demand courtesy of Border Force demanding customs charges of something a tad north of £9.

Such efficiency. How nice it is to know Border Force, for all their faults, are here to happily enforce the regulations in such minor detail, bearing in mind we’re still – albeit transitionally – under EU rules, complient with all our little anti-free trade taxes and tariffs.

10 am Radio4 : *Diversity in the media* AGAIN

It’s a third bite of the Cherry withinn18 hours
as the black woman promoting her report did the Media Show at 4:30pm and 9pm yesterday.
A report by Women in Journalism shows that there is still a shocking lack of diversity
    – revealed that no UK newspaper had a front page story by a Black reporter in the week studied,
    – and out of 174 front page bylines, just two were written by BAME women.
    – Out of a total of 723 radio reporter appearances, just 4 were by Black women
(1.5% of population is a black woman so you’d expect about 10 if proportionate )
    – and when non-white expert guests were asked to appear on radio and TV news, it was often to support coverage related to race.
( yeh and when footballers were on they were asked about football)
We discuss how this lack of diversity impacts the news that is covered and also what this means for women’s careers as journalists.
