The BBC’s coverage of the coronavirus has always been negative towards the government, always trying to find something, anything, to complain about in order to undermine the government and its approach. You might think the national broadcaster would be helping to build confidence and trust whilst still being honestly critical when necessary. However it just seems to be wilfully obstructive and critical, almost as if it would like the coronavirus to take the government down….a perfect example of such an approach is MSNBC’s snarky and wholly subjective and perjorative comment on Trump’s assertion on Saturday that a US Navy hospital ship would arrive in New York Harbour within days as the presenter poured scorn upon the idea…based on what?…clearly just a personal view based on her hatred of Trump….
The ship then duly arrived today, only two days later, of course….

Emma Barnett was caught telling porkies and had to be corrected actually during her programme by the government which rang in as she was telling everyone they couldn’t go to work unless they were key workers…a total lie….she then rapidly tried to claim that well, this was about human feeling not facts as such and people were feeling guilty about going to work so she was right to raise the subject…you might ask then why she had been pointing fingers at people going to work and accusing them of putting others at risk.

Consider that the government thinks the Coronavirus may be a yearly recurring threat…and then ask yourself if that is so is the current massive lockdown the right approach or even workable as it fails to provide that fabled ‘herd immunity’ and thus leaves us open to a resurgence of the disease when the lockdown ends or when it makes a yearly reappearance? And consider the financial cost.
Consider that in 2011 the government assessed that business would lose around £28bn due to a pandemic, maybe £40bn now a days…is it then sensible to spend hundreds of billions propping up business when a far lesser sum could be spent to ensure the NHS is not overwhelmed which is the ultimate aim of the lockdown? Perhaps allow the spread of the disease, develop herd immunity[consider again that the disease may not go away at all…will we lockdown every year from now on? Herd immunity would help stop that] and spend the money in a more targeted way on the NHS.
Consider that it is expected that the economy will take a 15% hit due to the lockdown and that maybe nearly 3 million will lose their jobs…how is that in anyway a sensible way of dealing with this threat? When that threat has dwindled, at least for now, what state will the NHS and all public services be left in? We will have austerity imposed for decades to pay for it with those services reduced to a shadow of what they were and just a pipe-dream for what was proposed just months ago with the big plans for massive investment.
The BBC prefers to criticise the government for its ability to implement the draconian measures and to get kit to hospitals rather than question the viability of the whole approach of trying to temporarily slow down the virus. The BBC in fact is part of the problem as it, and other media, pressure the government to take ever more draconian measures and to lockdown the country even more….and seems quite happy that a free nation built on progressive values such as freedom of speech, thought and movement finds its citizens suddenly under house arrest, bullied and intimidated by thuggish police officers.
When will the BBC ask if the ‘cure’ is actually worse than the disease?
The BBC’s Nick Triggle broached the subject but have we seen or heard anything from the BBC that actually asks this and rigorously questions the cost benefits considering a ruined economy can equally cost lives?….

Former Supreme Court Justice: ‘This is what a police state is like’
‘BBC interviewer Jonny Dymond: ‘A hysterical slide into a police state. A shameful police force intruding with scant regard to common sense or tradition. An irrational overreaction driven by fear.’ These are not the accusations of wild-eyed campaigners, they come from the lips of one our most eminent jurists Lord Sumption, former Justice of the Supreme Court. I spoke to him just before we came on air.
Lord Sumption: The real problem is that when human societies lose their freedom, it’s not usually because tyrants have taken it away. It’s usually because people willingly surrender their freedom in return for protection against some external threat. And the threat is usually a real threat but usually exaggerated. That’s what I fear we are seeing now. The pressure on politicians has come from the public. They want action. They don’t pause to ask whether the action will work. They don’t ask themselves whether the cost will be worth paying. They want action anyway. And anyone who has studied history will recognise here the classic symptoms of collective hysteria. Hysteria is infectious. We are working ourselves up into a lather in which we exaggerate the threat and stop asking ourselves whether the cure may be worse than the disease.
Dymond: At a time like this, as you acknowledge, citizens do look to the state for protection, for assistance, we shouldn’t be surprised then if the state takes on new powers if it responds. That is what it has been asked to do, almost demanded of it.
Sumption: Yes that is absolutely true. We should not be surprised. But we have to recognise that this is how societies become despotisms. And we also have to recognise this is a process which leads naturally to exaggeration. The symptoms of coronavirus are clearly serious for those with other significant medical conditions, especially if they’re old. There are exceptional cases in which young people have been struck down, which have had a lot of publicity, but the numbers are pretty small. The Italian evidence, for instance, suggests that only in 12 per cent of deaths is it possible to say coronavirus was the main cause of death. So yes this is serious and yes it’s understandable that people cry out to the government. But the real question is: is this serious enough to warrant putting most of our population into house imprisonment, wrecking our economy for an indefinite period, destroying businesses that honest and hardworking people have taken years to build up, saddling future generations with debt, depression, stress, heart attacks, suicides and unbelievable distress inflicted on millions of people who are not especially vulnerable and will suffer only mild symptoms or none at all, like the Health Secretary and the Prime Minister.
Dymond: The executive, the government, is all of a sudden really rather powerful and really rather unscrutinised. Parliament is in recess, it’s due to come back in late April, we’re not quite sure whether it will or not, the Prime Minister is closeted away, communicating via his phone, there is not a lot in the way of scrutiny is there?
Sumption: No. Certainly, there’s not a lot in the way of institutional scrutiny. The press has engaged in a fair amount of scrutiny, there has been some good and challenging journalism. But mostly the press has, I think, echoed and indeed amplified the general panic.
Dymond: The restrictions in movement have also changed the relationship between the police and those whose, in name, they serve. The police are naming and shaming citizens for travelling at what they see as the wrong time or driving to the wrong place. Does that set alarm bells ringing for you, as a former senior member of the judiciary?
Sumption: Well, I have to say, it does. I mean, the tradition of policing in this country is that policemen are citizens in uniform. They are not members of a disciplined hierarchy operating just at the government’s command. Yet in some parts of the country, the police have been trying to stop people from doing things like travelling to take exercise in the open country, which are not contrary to the regulations, simply because ministers have said that they would prefer us not to. The police have no power to enforce ministers’ preferences, but only legal regulations – which don’t go anything like as far as the government’s guidance. I have to say that the behaviour of the Derbyshire police in trying to shame people into using their undoubted right to take exercise in the country and wrecking beauty spots in the Fells so that people don’t want to go there, is frankly disgraceful.
This is what a police state is like. It’s a state in which the government can issue orders or express preferences with no legal authority and the police will enforce ministers’ wishes. I have to say that most police forces have behaved in a thoroughly sensible and moderate fashion. Derbyshire police have shamed our policing traditions. There is a natural tendency of course, and a strong temptation for the police to lose sight of their real functions and turn themselves from citizens in uniform into glorified school prefects. I think it’s really sad that the Derbyshire police have failed to resist that.
Dymond: There will be people listening who admire your legal wisdom but will also say ‘well, he’s not an epidemiologist, he doesn’t know how disease spreads, he doesn’t understand the risks to the health service if this thing gets out of control’. What do you say to them?
Sumption: What I say to them is I am not a scientist but it is the right and duty of every citizen to look and see what the scientists have said and to analyse it for themselves and to draw common sense conclusions. We are all perfectly capable of doing that and there’s no particular reason why the scientific nature of the problem should mean we have to resign our liberty into the hands of scientists. We all have critical faculties and it’s rather important, in a moment of national panic, that we should maintain them.
Dymond: Lord Sumption, former Justice of the Supreme Court, speaking to me earlier. We put his criticism of Derbyshire police to the force and they sent us this statement: ‘Our advice to the public was in line with national government instruction and echoed what people in our communities were saying following thousands of people that travelled to the Peak District National Park the previous weekend. The weekend just gone saw much smaller numbers and we thank the public for their response.’ ‘

Not bBBC (although in many ways it’s a very similar website) but if you go to Wikipedia and look at the list of recent notable deaths, all of the Coronavirus-related ones are listed as dying from “COVID-19”. Not (as they should be) “Complications from COVID-19”, or “serious health issues exacerbated by COVID-19”, or anything which would be accurate, no, it’s “Mr. Such and Such, 76, Politician, COVID-19”.
This of course is misleading, as is much of the current news around this virus. It gives the impression that these people were in tip-top health, but decided to walk only 1.9m from someone and therefore were immediately struck down by this unstoppable plague.
It just adds to the scaremongering. We’re in a very dangerous place at the moment, I mean socially rather than health-wise.
A report this morning highlighted the bad conditions of the refugees on Lesbos island with no facilicities to fight COVID 19. The boy that she described having a “round face with big eyes” showed the BBC’s agenda here !. No mention of the Israelis who have been helping Syrian refugees on the island of Lesbos for over four years. Or of the school they had built there which was burnt down by Palestinian Arabs. Israeli-Arab news anchor Lucy Aharish was interviewed on BBC World Service recently and described what the school had achieved . My analysis of the HardLeftyPedia “sources”, also known as the BBC and the Guardian.
Yes, some reports do say died after testing positive for COVID-19, which is not quite the same thing as dying from COVID-19. But these are all deemed to be deaths from the virus (for statistical and panic-inducing purposes) when, indeed, they may not be.

JustRemainIn obviously ignorant of Singapore. Have to declare an interest here. Had Singaporean friend (now deceased few years ago) and other friends who lived and worked there for a while. Also have S.Korean friend so have a little background from both countries.
However; that’s not my main beef. It is the lack of thoughtful, careful questioning of various experts on R4 that concerns me. The BBC could be really useful at a time like this. It could be informing listeners. Teaching listeners. Inspiring young people to become interested in and seek future careers in science and medicine.
But no.
All the BBC want to do is find fault with the UK and denigrate the present Government.
Hunting for information and educating everyone about testing for viruses is just not on the agenda. Fifty years ago, James Burke would have been on Radio 4 (and BBC 1 & 2 TV), day and night, teaching listeners and viewers all about our inner space instead of outer space.

What JustRemainIn and his testing expert did not point out to R4 listeners is that, for all their testing, Germany are now the third sickest country in the EU.
That may mean several things, one of which is that their testing is not reliable and is throwing up false positives. Another is that the testing may not be ‘fine’ enough to differentiate between ‘flu’ and Covid-19 in someone who is asymptomatic.
And it might be because of all the muslim invaders that Mrs Merkel has forced into the country.
Is there any breakdown in any white majority country of those who are infected with and who are dying from this virus? The two doctors who died in our country were ethnics, I believe.

Back in November (I think) I complained to the BBC about a BBC News presenters comments about a cake competition. They showed a cake of Trump and Kim Jon Il and the presenter said with a smile “… a cake of Trump and his little rocket man”.
I’d thought I would complain for the hell of it especially as it is racist to make fun of a person due to their preceived or real physical attributes.
After a short 2 months I get my reply saying I am totally wrong and the BBC are always perfect and that this “was a bit of light hearted fun and the newsreader was just quoting what others say”.
So I thought I would drag this out some more and explain you cannot say racist things on live TV just because someone else has done so and gave an example “it would be offensive to say n*gger on live TV just because someone else has said that before”.
3 months later, today, I get my second reply….

The problem with the BBC was encapsulated in about 15 minutes of Today programme broadcasting.
The BBC spent three years sneering at Brexiteers for daring to suggest ‘experts’ might not be the be all and end all…of course the Brexiteers were talking about economists and not actual experts…a difference the BBC glosses over in its sneering….last week we had the author Ian McEwan, straight from his ‘Zoom’ dinner with his well-heeled luvvie mates in New York, telling us the coronavirus was possibly a good thing as people now realise experts are a good thing and that the dreadful populists and nativists come to realise how great the unifying EU and free movement are….lol.
Now however experts, real experts, seem to be out and the highly political, ill-judged and ill-informed mutterings of opportunist politicians and various associated commentators seem to take precedence over the real experts.
Justin Webb saw no problem in asking this morning if the government hadn’t been badly advised by his scientific advisors…and thus we are late to the party on the ‘right course’ of action in regard to the coronavirus.
So right there you have two problems…one the BBC’s hypocritical dismissal of the experts and its assumption that the course of action it, and its political allies in Labour, prefer is the correct one and the government’s the wrong one.
The government wanted to allow herd immunity to develop, consider no vaccine will be available for maybe 18 months [there’s none for SARS after 18 years], but the media and Labour piled in and pressurised them into changing the course of action and imposing a lockdown…but even that limited lockdown isn’t enough…they want a total lockdown with no-one allowed to go to work. No herd immunity and no vaccine means a lockdown will never end.
And right there’s another problem with the BBC’s coverage and approach…on Today we heard that garden centres are in freefall and many will never reopen…but instead of questioning whether the lockdown is the right way forward the BBC just demanded more money to bail the centres out…and it is the same with all its reports on business..no inkling that the lockdown approach is wrong, just demands for more and more bailouts…this is the BBC that demanded builders, the majority self-employed, be stopped from working.
The BBC knows the economy is being wrecked and the future blighted but it turns away and fails to hold the government to account…but then of course it would be holding itself to account for Boris & Co crumbled and implemented the policy that the BBC et al demanded.
The BBC is making a lot of noise about Grant Shapps’ comments on the police heavy-handedness but fails to mention what else he has said….from The Telegraph…

Oddly, all that concern about Brexit and ‘cliff edges’ and ‘crashing the economy’ has suddenly been forgotten and the BBC is quite happy to see maybe a 15% drop in the economy and a possible 4 million unemployed…..sure, as said, the BBC talks about businesses in dire trouble but it doesn’t say this madness must stop…it believes that the lockdown, and an even stricter one, is a necessary evil….one that no doubt will be taken full advantage of to press other issues like climate change and marxism…the lockdown will be a rolling blunder that continues for years and the BBC et al will try to impose socialism and a Labour government upon us under the guise of a ‘national government’ regardless of election results.
The BBC should stop interfering in politics and should stop making up its own ‘facts’.
Whichever way you look at it, the World as we know it, is under siege and it has been increasingly so for decades. The Chinese virus is a current irritant but a minor one compared to those who are all about destroying the World (and in particular the West) and, in their vision, somehow ‘starting afresh’. I’m not particularly bothered what they are called whether, Communists, Marxists, New World Order, XR Rebellion et al. I submit that the prime feature of their destructive behaviour can be viewed as, ‘heads you (they) win, tails you (they) win’. The evil will eventually win, hands down. The direction of travel, I like to think, is one of Absolute Zero. That attained in space. All other efforts to heat everything to an acceptable level, certainly for humanity to exist, is artificial. Everything will return to the natural Absolute Zero one day.
That the evil will prevail sooner or later is, in my humble opinion a foregone conclusion. The growing conflict between all people irrespective of political persuasion, Nation State, cannot continue its inexorable accelerating slide downhill without hitting rock bottom sometime soon. And this, despite Trump, Brexit and other bright spots.
G, the Book of Revelation (in the Bible) makes interesting reading at the present time. Especially in conjunction with other Scripture, such as 2 Thessalonians, etc..
For example Revelation chapter 6 verse 6. It has a double meaning which needs to be sought out elsewhere in scripture but is very applicable to right now. Chapter 9 verse 5 onwards is also interesting both in the age of drones in which we live but also in connection with a Virus Pandemic.

Another possible six months lock down! Very surprised that such an announcement was made by the Government Medics, without it would appear fully appreciating the consqences of such a statement . I suspect it will be impossible to implement-this nation has to get people back to work, so as to allow the preperation and manufacture of the goods that people will require and ugently in all sectors. Certain facilities have to be opened again, such as all Phamacists, Dentists, GP Surgery’s, Council Tips and collection of waste, delivery of all necessary items and services, like Fuel to keep the nation’s vehicles moving-otherwise this nation will undoubtedly crumble. The Government and its Medical advisers must be more careful in what they announce not to alarm the general public-which will only once again lead to panic buying and shortages. Much more testing needs to take place-in every supremarket store, irrespective and by law, every railway and bus station terminal, Airports, shipping lines, and so on-you name it. Don’t let us underestimate the serious issue of what this Covid 19 can do to all of us, the damage could be enormous-nevertheless we have to get the nation working again. So keep clam and let’s get going.
