Start the Week Thread 3 February 2020

There are reports that the Government is to launch a consultation on decriminalising ‘no TV licence’ – perhaps this week . The Biased Far Left BBC will argue that it will lead to loss of revenue and ability to produce ‘quality ‘ programmes . It would be good if this site could make a contribution to the consultation as a small step to make the BBC British again or end it . Contributions welcome .

From the Grauniad. (Or whatever it’s called)
The poor butt-hurt fake-news press in this country is still under the impression that we need them. This was a good move from Downing Street. I hope we see more of it.

Political journalists boycotted a Downing Street briefing on Monday after one of Boris Johnson’s aides banned selected reporters from attending.

The confrontation took place inside No 10 after Lee Cain, Johnson’s most senior communications adviser, tried to exclude reporters from the Mirror, the i, HuffPost, PoliticsHome, the Independent and others from an official government briefing.

At a time of escalating tensions between Downing Street and the media, Labour accused Johnson of deploying Donald Trump-like tactics to avoid scrutiny.

‘Britain is retrenched on its island’: Europe’s papers react to Brexit day
    Read more
The incident happened in the foyer of No 10 when journalists on the invited list were asked to stand on one side of a rug, while those not allowed in were asked by security to stand on the other side.

When Cain told the banned journalists to leave, the rest of the journalists decided to walk out collectively rather than allow Downing Street to choose who scrutinises and reports on the government.

Among those who refused the briefing on the UK’s trade negotiations with the EU were the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, ITV’s Robert Peston, and political journalists from Sky News, the Daily Mail, the Telegraph, the Sun, the Financial Times and the Guardian.

The briefing was due to be given by government officials, who are meant to be politically neutral, but did not happen because of the walkout.

The tactics from No 10 echo those of Trump in the US, who has been known to try to exclude journalists from reporting on his activities, and represents an escalation of Johnson’s tensions with the media, which have been increasing in recent weeks.

Johnson’s communications team has banned ministers from appearing on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, boycotted ITV’s Good Morning Britain, and declined to appear on Channel 4 since before the election.

Ministers have also been told not to have lunch with political journalists, and it was briefed at the weekend that Dominic Cummings, Johnson’s senior adviser, had established a “network of spies” to find out whether other special advisers were fraternising with the media.

Sign up to the Media Briefing: news for the news-makers
    Read more
The BBC in particular is braced for a coming battle with the government after Johnson signalled during the election that he would consider scrapping the licence fee. A thinktank run by Cummings in 2004 advocated an end to the BBC’s funding model and described it as a “mortal enemy” of the Tory party.

Broadcasters have also been unhappy that the prime minister’s Brexit day “address to the nation” was filmed by Downing Street rather than a crew from a TV network, as would usually be the case.

Some of Johnson’s recent hires as special advisers include those with specialisms in film production and photography, prompting speculation that he is increasingly intending to bypass the media. The prime minister has recently launched so-called “people’s PMQs” sessions in which he reads out pre-vetted questions and answers them himself in an attempt to speak directly to the public.

There have also been signs that No 10 is trying to shake up its relations with political journalists, who are collectively known as the lobby. Political journalists have already complained about No 10 changing the location of its daily briefings with the prime minister’s official spokesman from a room in parliament to Downing Street, meaning they are now held on government territory.

There have previously been problems with some journalists being denied access, but these have largely been to political, rather than government, events. During the election campaign, the Mirror was excluded from following Johnson’s campaign on his battlebus after Tory complaints that its online coverage was not balanced.

Earlier on Monday, Downing Street also limited access to Johnson’s keynote Brexit speech to one journalist per outlet, which meant some sketch writers who satirise the prime minister were unable to attend.

After the walkout, a senior No 10 source said there had been a normal briefing for all lobby journalists after the prime minister’s speech and that the later one was a “smaller, selected briefing for specialist senior journalists”. The source said “a number of uninvited journalists barged into No 10 and demanded to be part of it” but were told they could not attend.

The banned journalists who tried to attend the briefing had passed through Downing Street’s security scanners, shown their parliamentary passes and knocked on the door to gain entry. All the invited journalists were political editors rather than Brexit specialists.

Odd…big story in the FT this morning, and reported widely elsewhere, that Nissan might be considering moving all its EU production into the UK…..not a mention on the BBC website.

How odd…when the BBC fills the airwaves with stories of car makers and Airbus and city types all fleeing to the EU #duetoBrexit whenever there is a hint of that being possible…the BBC even making up its own stories…when Toyota or Nissan deny their actions have anything to do with Brexit the BBC decides differently and reports it’s all to do with Brexit.

And yet here, on the BBC, nothing.

    The Spectator….
    https://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2020/02/nissans-post-brexit-plan-exposes-the-limits-of-project-fear/

Nissan’s post-Brexit plan exposes the limits of Project Fear

‘It’s been revealed that the company is looking at a scenario in which it would close its EU plants and transfer production to Sunderland instead, raising its UK output from 350,000 to 400,000 vehicles a year. The Micra, which is currently manufactured in a Renault plant in France, would move to Britain, while its van plant near Barcelona would be closed.’

    The Telegraph…

‘Nissan’s potential Brexit plan shows how badly the EU needs a trade deal with the UK
Nissan is in the news today for a secret proposal, which it denies, to push all its production into the UK in the event of tariffs if there is no trade agreement with the EU. This illustrates the possible downside for the EU in not reaching agreement.’

The BBC covering up the truth once again as it promotes a very one-sided version of the sacking of Claire O’Neill from a powerful climate position…the BBC failed to mention that there were many concerns about her performance when it initially reported the sacking and today still fails to reveal those many concerns…

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-51357200

‘The former head of this year’s vital climate summit may sue the UK government for sacking her, the BBC has learned.

Claire O’Neill, an ex-minister, was told by Downing Street that she couldn’t chair the Glasgow meeting because she was no longer a minister.’

    In contrast…from the Telegraph…

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2020/01/31/claire-perry-oneill-sacked-role-president-un-climate-change/

‘Claire Perry O’Neill, the former energy minister, was last night sacked from her role as president of this year’s UN Climate Change Conference following “concerns about her leadership”.

Boris Johnson told the former Tory MP he was removing her from the post with immediate effect, though no official reason was given for her dismissal.

Whitehall sources suggested officials “couldn’t work with her” and that concerns about her performance had been a “long running issue”.
Ms Perry O’Neill, who stood down as an MP at the general election, was nominated as the President of COP26 in September, but Whitehall sources said there had been concerns about how she was running the unit for months.

“There were problems both in terms of delivery and in terms of some internal matters,” one source said. “Her leadership has been a long-running issue.”

During her time as energy minister civil service unions raised concerns about claims that Ms Perry O’Neill swore and shouted at civil servants.

Representatives of the PCS, FDA and Prospect unions wrote a joint letter to Alex Chisholm, permanent secretary at BEIS, complaining about her behaviour.

COP26 insiders suggested last night that Ms Perry O’Neill’s behaviour was likely to jar with officials from other countries.
One source told the Guardian: “The senior team of officials in the unit couldn’t work with her and her erratic behaviour and poor performance has spooked key stakeholders in the UK and internationally.” ‘

This of course gave him his column for today – which I sometimes dip into but can’t take the snowflake smug.

Anyway – it set me thinking – we on this site use the term Mainstream Media MSM – as a given . But actually – really it isn’t is it? It was once – but as the likes of the Mail losing it’s readers after Dacre got sacked, the Telegraph is …what ? And people are pulling away from terrestrial TV it doesn’t deserve MSM any more .

The war between a Downing Street and the Biased Journos was bound to happen after such a big victory – which those journos fought so hard to prevent – coupled to the rest of the poisonous bubble .

Sooner or later there will be an armistice – I can guess what the circumstances will be but will leave that to you . But inthe meantime let’s have fun watching The BBC. guardian and the rest moaning about ‘accountability ‘ rather than being spoon fed information by the new government to be turned and used against it . And hopefully it’s a sign that maybe we have an unusual thing – a Conservative Government in the making . But somehow it won’t be Right enough for me .

The BBC’s journalism is in the gutter because it is so desperate to always play the racism card.
Remember a few weeks ago how some of us on this site pointed out that the BBC had gone way over the top to hammer home a claim of alleged racism involving a single football fan at a Tottenham Hotspur football match?
We complained that the BBC had then miserably failed to provide a fair and balanced follow-up when it turned out that the police had later dropped their investigation, having found no evidence.
But the damage had already been done, and Spurs fans as a whole were unfairly smeared.
It now seems, according to the story below, that a club supporters group has formally complained to the BBC over another blatant misrepresentation of that same alleged incident, this time as part of a One Show report being aired to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
Spurs fans have branded the segment as “disgusting” and called for the BBC to make a formal apology.
The programme apparently repeated the same, unfounded allegation of racism without telling viewers that the probe had been officially dropped. Their report was totally misleading.
It would seem utterly bizarre, wouldn’t it, that a report supposedly meant to be about the Holocaust – and which talked about how football was tackling anti semitism – should conjure up a black racist angle?
But that’s exactly what the biased BBC did. And to suggest that racism had sprung from a Spurs fanbase that actually includes many Jews is utterly, totally disgusting.
This low level journalism is unfortunately typical of a broadcaster that is so keen to push its racism agenda that it no longer even attempts to tell the truth.
Tottenham Hotspur FC should sue the pants off them.

Remember when Desert Island Discs was a gentle ramble through someone’s life.
I’ve just heard its latest podcast, and it seems to have gone the way of most dreadfully biased BBC programmes, pushing an anti-white, overtly political agenda.
The episode on Sonita Alleyne, apparently the first black master of an Oxford University college, rammed its woke credentials down the listener’s throat right from the start.
The interview focused on the barriers that black people face in Britain, how tough it is for ethnic minority kids to get to Oxbridge, and about the need for more “diversity” in the media. The interviewer was far more interested in the subject’s views rather than her life story.
Christ, even the “challenges of Brexit” in a university context were discussed at one stage.
At no point did the interviewer coax Ms Alleyne, an immigrant from Barbados, to acknowledge that the UK had perhaps given her a warm welcome, fabulous opportunities, or a great life.
Just the usual BBC propaganda by rote.

I take the Times and the Telegraph and the contrast between the two on Brexit has been remarkable but over the past few weeks it has reached an entirely new level. The Telegraph is full of pieces urging Leavers not to crow too much and not to rub the faces of Remainer in their own mess ( my words not a quote) and also hoping for a coming together and putting the country first. The Times on the other hand is ful of articles about how Remainers must become a Rejoiners , how bad Brexit will be , how the resistance must continue and how the government can stick its reconciliation message where the sun don’t shine.
I suppose it’s early days for Remainers . Their hopes were raised that we would never leave by the likes of Grieve , Hammond, Starmer etc it must have been a shock when we did leave on the 31 st and it will take them time to get over it. However, I think that the vitriol displayed in the Times indicates that many of the elite are committed Rejoiners and will continue to support the EU and to undermine the UK both openly and covertly. Getting these people out of their positions of influence will be very difficult even if the government was committed to doing so. The BBC will give them as much air time as they wish to spout their anti Brexit bile. The struggle for Brexit is far from over but smashing the BBC is a necessary next step to achieve victory.

Double – I think what you say is why the Reich must be treated like the enemy that it is and that any short term loss ( kraut cars ) will be worth it . The ‘class action ‘ against Audi vw is coming along nicely ….
If The ‘political’ wing of the IRA win the Irish vote it will unsettle that small bit of the ReichEU.

BBC settles into unofficial opposition party mode with this stonking further misjudgement of the public mood.

“Streatham attack: Terror sentence changes ‘face legal battle'”

“Lord Carlile, a crossbench peer and former independent government reviewer of terrorism legislation, told BBC Two’s Newsnight the plans went too far. ”

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51365970

What we have here is the BBC giving platform to the liberal establishment’s resistance to the Boris ‘Government of the People’ attempting to keep our streets safer for the public. I note one newspaper report telling us this latest released Islamist wanted to kill an MP… hmmmm… no wonder he had a team of 20 security officers on his tail.

My point is that the BBC is happy to disseminate unpopular views – fair enough – but the BBC is only ever happy to give platform to those marginal views on the proviso they come from the Left.

By the way, if such views are to be aired in our more or less free society, isn’t it only fair that some of the Labour Leadership contenders have to voice them? Afterall they are on the campaign stump at present so how about they voice the liberal side of the argument – and either win popular support or have to suffer the public backlash.

How come we always have to put up with outsourced political ‘lawfare’ in the liberal cause?

Suspicious I would suggest. My wife is Scottish and like all her family are absoultely against Independence-their parents and Grandparents fought not just for Scotland but for the United Kingdom for goodness sake. One word Traitors those who vote for Independence. In all said and done it is very doubtful as to how Scotland would manage to cover the massive costs of running the country from the taxes of only 5.1 million people. Again Doubtful the European Union/Brussels will welcome Scotland with open arms, as Scotland would find it almost impossible to meet the EU costs. The First Minister has been blown up with far too much self importance, and if such an event for Independence fails, that woman should be sent into exile to an island int the outer hebrides.

Crazy Bernie v President Trump . Only one winner there. The current delays in announcing the winner of the Democrat primary in Iowa are likely due to the Democrat Party officials doing their best to manipulate the votes to try and stop Crazy Bernie from winning. I’m sure that the American people will just add this lastest example of Democrat corruption and general untrustworthiness to the very long list . It can only be good news for the President.

I didn’t see that morning BBC propaganda news but did “rashad” say that one of the best ways of deradicalising ‘the yoof’ is via a 9mil round – approx cost 60p. . Which means the one on Sunday cost £1.80 to deradicalise .

Re the BBC response to the Government news they plan to ditch Petrol and Diesel Cars by 2035…

They get a very gobby bloke who had something to do with Top Gear on to give us an “explainer”….

Amongst a lot of absolute codswallop, in response to being asked what would we do with all the old cars after 2035 he replied airily “Thats easy we’ll just send them to parts of the World where they can continue to be used….”

    Africa? Middle East? Antartica? Bolivia?

I am dumbfounded by this logic, surely that just moves the problem (and the eventual piles of scrap plastic and metal) so it’s not our problem any more or am I missing something?

He also announced that the Government would need to massively step up the spread of electrical charging points nationwide to every home, he obviously lives in a W1 penthouse with an underground garage, just try for instance installing in the road where I live, face-to-face terraced houses with no parking spaces and the road continuously packed with bumper to bumper parked cars.

Meanwhile back in the real World….

What a load of unimportance-such a Prize warrents the reciever to be of outstanding capability in their field of science or other. Just consider the wonderful people medical people for example who have been awarded the Nobel Prize for their work from which civilisation has gained so much. Such a nomination which includes this young womans name brings the Nobel Prize into disrepute. Of course such a move is to further support the climate change alarmists.

Remarkable…still no report from the BBC about Nissan possibly moving all its EU production into the UK…however even the Guardian has reported it…

    https://www.theguardian.com/business/2020/feb/03/nissan-eu-uk-hard-brexit

Nissan ‘could pull out of EU and expand in UK after hard Brexit’

Even odder that the BBC doesn’t report this because back in October last year they reported something hinting at it but, of course, shaped the report to claim UK car industry was about to shut down due to Brexit…

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-50000530
Nissan Europe ‘unsustainable’ in no-deal Brexit

The BBC’s stance on Brexit, where everything is a disaster for the car industry, jobs and the economy, is in stark contrast to how they report on climate change and the car industry in which the car is the devil incarnate destroying the planet and therefore must be taken off the road.
Witness today as the government announces that no more diesel or petrol cars will be sold after 2035….clearly a bit of a challenge for the car industry….The BBC has absolutely no concerns about jobs and the economy under threat from climate change restrictions…..just as it was very worried that Honda’s ‘just in time’ process that used nearly 400 lorry deliveries per day to its factory would be damaged by Brexit….and yet warns ominously about the threat to the planet from transport….it all depends on what message the BBC wants to send out as to what and how it reports the same thing…one day 400 lorries/day travelling across Europe is vital and beneficial, the next it’s planet destroying work of the devil/Boris.

Be interesting how the bbc ‘reports’ JHB tearing Gove a new one over his gibbering idiot efforts to justify the leccy car policy no one has costed before making policy

This is why I voted as I did. Next election my Tory MP either talks sense or I seek other options that will with luck arise.

His mob already lost the council in Treezer’s obliteration and now we have a bunch of Limps and Greens imposing ‘carbon taxes’ to concrete the farmland with ‘affordable housing’ for people who will not be paying council taxes.

After 2035, no diesel or petrol cars will be sold in the UK. But can I buy from another country and use it here? Will fuel be available? Will lorries from Europe be allowed to run on our roads?

Pug, there is a disconnect with all the anti-petrol rhetoric and the Muslim-victim narrative. The same people, the same broadcasters promote both agendas. Yet it’s the oil industry that is funding Islam. Are the MSM that stupid? Oil money has bought them. Oil money has funded their services in advertising and normalising Islam despite it’s obvious, atrocious effects on the world.
Will the climate changers ever call the Arab world to account over it’s greedy environment-killing oil production?
If the climate hoaxers kill off the car industry who will the Middle East sell their oil to?
What if The Middle East oil supply is not inexhaustible? How will Muslims continue to buy off Western institutions with no oil wealth?

Speaking of sixth form colleges. I was visiting Bradford college a few weeks ago. Picture the scene…. classroom full of ethnics, young white “teacher” who looks as young as the students. On one wall, the word “Globalisation” (except spelt incorrectly with a Z instead of an S!). A screen at the front talks about “Neo Marxism” and later when I passed by “ Ethnicity, Racism and the CJS (criminal justice system )”. Yes folks this is where it all happens, right under our noses our kids are being radicalised. Who needs prison! By the way, their coffee shop has been renamed, the “Jo Cox cafe”. I kid you not.
