I suspect that many of these folks are the same ones who were vociferously condemning the President a few weeks ago forrunning down the numbers of US troops committed to Syria. Trump can do no good in their eyes, whatever he does it must be condemned.
Trump could not win in this situation. He had obviously been advised that some sort of imminent attack on America or its resources and personnel, so how was he supposed to respond ?
Had he ignored the threat and an attack had taken place, he would have been criticised for being aware of impending danger and taking no steps to prevent it.
As it happens he has taken action so should further retaliation by Iran take place, he will be criticised for being responsible for whatever atrocity occurs by provoking Iran.
Should Iran fail to respond Trump will be criticised for potentially inviting Iran to respond.
He is being criticised for not consulting his allies, the UK in particular, regarding the impending action. Had he done so would Boris’ administration been obliged to inform Corbyn and Abbott as Opposition Leader and shadow Home Secretary ? And if our government had informed Corbyn and Abbott prior to the event, what do you think they might have done with that information ?
If Obama had done it, he’d be lauded for putting a quick end to a potentially dangerous situation and awarded a 2nd Nobel peace prize. Still, given how after 8 years in office he had nothing to show, I guess that medal makes him feel important.

A friend tells me in passing that on C4 news it was suggested that said Iranian general was classified as a terrorist by the United Nations and therefore was subject to a travel ban so should not have been travelling at all.
Strangely I’ve not seen this mentioned in the BBC reporting.

Jeremy Bowen’s portentous comment that Iran “will want to get even, perhaps more than that” is typical BBC non-reporting. Yes, it is a safe bet that they will want revenge, even disproportionate revenge. This kind of banal comment is on the same level as football reporters speculating that winning managers will be delighted and losing managers will be gutted. The question is though – what is Iran going to do? Since the BBC basically hates the West and has an instinctive attitude of appeasement towards our enemies, it doesn’t occur to Bowen that the assassination of Soleimani may have fundamentally weakened and intimidated Iran. Trump has shown he is willing to strike audaciously at the heart of the Iranian regime. Iran might want revenge, they might make threatening statements in public about revenge, but they will be thinking twice about any actions they are considering. They now know they aren’t dealing with a pussycat. And in any full-scale confrontation with Trump, they know they are always going to come off second-best.
Yes and those who fear that vengeance might be taken in the UK “because we are seen as a softer target”.
Ask yourselves why and tell your politicians to grow a pair.

The price of refrigerant is now extortionate, by the way, in excess of £1000 a bottle in some cases. It’s said that heat pumps use less energy for heating than boilers, but they are refrigerant based so cost will cost a fortune.

TOADY Watch #1 – Guilty as charged
Late wake up this a.m., just in time to hear diplomat Sir John Sawers being very undiplomatic about President Trump. He also seemed to be slightly ignorant about American politics. I thought that strange seeing as Sir John had been 1. in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and 2. head of MI6 (external security services), and, 3. a diplomat to the UN in New York.
Perhaps Sir John let his bias against or hatred of Donald Trump to over-rule his brain and tongue.
As to anyone being ‘qualified’ to be President of the United States, my mind immediately thought of lawyers, actors and peanut farmers. Why should not a property developer businessman (however privileged and whatever successes achieved & failures endured) run for President?
My experience of US governance comes mostly from books (not necessarily fiction) and films. I always thought that US Presidents had all sorts of advisers from the intelligence, diplomatic, military and legal communities in Washington and Virginia advising on everything but maybe all those books (about the Nixon Presidency) and films (West Wing) are completely wrong? What do I know?
I do not necessarily hold with political assassination outside of a declared, ongoing war. But somebody with Sir John Sawer’s experience appears to completely discount CIA intelligence, the military advice from the Joint Chiefs together with the other advisers, including the lawyers, in the Situation Room with President Trump. Sir John also appears to discount the different political structure of a Republic where the President’s desk has the sign ‘The bucks stops here.’. As far as the US military are concerned, the President is Commander-in-Chief.
Sir John appears to provide ample evidence that the reform and overhaul of the UK Civil Service is long overdue. Perhaps Dominic Cummings is right?

How anyone can justify burning businesses, homes and people to death, let alone the wildlife – which often does a lot better than the humans at escaping the flames – is beyond me. But a Senator from Australia (Green Party(?), or at least a sympathiser, had a good go. Needless to say she interrupted her rather saner, male, fellow Senator from the Liberal Party when he explained that a failure to create firebreaks (by traditional burning or otherwise) had allowed the fires to develop and worsen.
The reasoning of the female Senator was interrupted by my need to get down to basic household matters but I can guess what she said. Will I go back and listen again? Not sure. I used to do that regularly. But then the BBC put the additional barrier of having to sign in just to listen on Radio iPlayer or Sounds as it is now called. These days, I just cannot be bothered to go to the trouble of signing in and therefore listen to less of the BBC.

In the meantime, I feel sad for the loss that many Australians are suffering because of the fires. The natural world will recover. Naturally. It is what it does. The natural world is much more robust than the human one.
The more fragile human world in Oz can thank the brainless, dogmatic, ‘Greens’ of Australia for their worsening predicament. Not even the weather is truly to blame.

Watched Flogit on BBC 2 yesterday. Programme from Tilbury, so a large part of a show about antiques was devoted to the Windrush and West Indies migration in 1948. One of the original migrants was interviewed and of course the talk centred on racism, how well he and all the others did, the benefits of multiculturalism etc. etc. This chap obviously worked and was a benefit to the UK, also had 8 children, so helped to increase the population, as was the call in those days just after the British losses of another war..
Plenty of pictures and comments about successful black immigrants, nothing about crime rates, drugs benefits abuse. Surprisingly for the BBC.

Does seem strange that the BBC – so much europhile – somehow misses the horrors taking place in France and Sweden and god knows where .
They go on about ‘ freedom of the press ‘ but what a lie that is – when their editorial approach has become so transparently biased .
I don’t know about you but there has been a gradual bias which has become si obvious now that almost the majority of TV licence payers are noticing and objecting to it .
There’s no coming back from that . The BBC will blame the government for ‘ hostility ‘ in its’ habitual way .
