Nick Robinson with some wind in his sails?

He’s going after Ian Lavery (Lab) – big time – who just held on to his seat by less than 1000 votes. Lavoury is dissembling. Typical Labour.

So after a long thought on the state of Scotland after the results are now in, BBC / SKY saying it wil be hard for Boris to deny SNP indyRef2…

and at first all the way up to this election i’ve thought, if scotland want another indyref let them have it.

Then i thought nah actually, SNP have spent the last 3 years trying to stop brexit, so they can wait another 3 years or more for there referendum, i mean Brexit is priority now, lets get it done!

    • Dystopian says:

Even better, let’s give them a referendum and then ignore the result and tell them they didn’t know what they were voting for.

      • Vonbedda says:

thing is, they’ve had there once in a generation referendum vote.

we’ve made a statement as a country over and over, We wont vote on a Referendum again, but if you give alternate voting means I.e. EU election, G.E. based on 2016 Ref, G.E based on all the previous voting to do with brexit….etc we will keep telling you (the Government/Parliament) the same answer.

so no in my opinion, scotland should try and actually sort it’s self out first with all the powers that have been devolved to it, once it can stand up on own 2 feet, happy to give them a ref then.

      The Mirror already sh*t stirring.

This is what they claim Boris said…

“Boris Johnson tells Remainers ‘put a sock in it’ as he declares second referendum dead”

What he actually said was for the “stop Brexit” bloke with the blue hat, with yellow stars, to put a sock in his megaphone.

What I find strange is that the SNP have less votes than in 2015 (not mentioned by many) but how is is that the Brexit party get 2% of votes and no seats the SNP 3.6% and get 48 seats.. we need a better system…..but I am enjoying this too.

I missed Swinson’s defeat unfortunately. Sorry about Michael Todd’s but it shows the Labour-affiliated SDLP are happy to do deals with IRA Sinn Fein.

Pleased that IDS kept his seat. Now Boris you know what you’ve got to do. I will now buy that bottle of champagne I promised myself to celebrate Brexit when it happens.

I am so pleased that such a decent man won. I might have seen some of his speech on Sky or was it just the Returning Officer. It was a few hours ago. My MP is Michael Fabricant who was just leaving the polling station as we went to vote. He had a big smile on his face saying hello to all and a hello my dear to my wife. I just wished him good luck.

We’re not out of the woods yet. I still would have liked to see a few Brexit Mps to hold Johnson to account but the big thing is Corbyn and McDonnell were annihilated and Swinson lost.

Just to intrude for a moment on the widespread and general General Election elation…

I notice the BBC have updated their report on the recent New Jersey murders of Jewish people (I say murders because I like to be precise and find the newspeak weasel word ‘attack’ so favoured by the BBC to be tiresome).

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-50764276

Our BBC present a certain amount of emoting and lots of references to anti-semitism.

But you have to read way way down the report to find this nugget of information : “At least one of the suspects appeared to be interested in a group called the “Black” Hebrew Israelites.” (My emphasis points out the word “Black” – the BBC does not highlight this aspect of the identity of the perpetrators of this hate crime. Infact the BBC are very very weasely here. Years ago I personally appeared to be interested in a group called ‘Boney M’ – but I’m as white a sheet. And sorry to be flippant here but this is an important issue. The BBC are hiding the race of the killers which they definitely would not do had the pair been pale-faced.

To prove the point mugshots of the killers are widely available yet the BBC chooses in this case not to avail themselves of the pictures with which to colour their reporting.

Is it not the definition of racism to treat people differently according to their race?

Warning – a note of caution.

Amid the euphoria and sighs of relief, allow me to do the BBC’s job for a moment and find, if not doom and gloom, a couple of things to mention.

    1. The totally unreconstructed marxists in the Labour Party will not go away. They may be driven out but this is very unlikely given their control of the party. They will lay in wait, keep their heads relatively down, and hope in 5 years time that Boris has not delivered and/or ‘events’ conspire against him, or that traditional Labour voters returm. Marxism is delayed but we are not out of the woods.

    2. 2019 – Con 44% Lab 32% gives Con 364 seats, Lab 203.
    2005 – Lab 35% Con 32% gives Lab 355 sears, Con 198.

In other words there is a MASSIVE imbalance in the constiuencies. Zac Goldsmith got 27,000 votes and lost. The winner got 34,000 votes, more than the total vote in Labour Newcastle Central.

Do Brexit Boris, then get the Boundary Commission on the case. Fast.

I agree – but on the upside what this result has shown is how much far left propaganda failed the common sense test and just how disconnected the people at the BBC are to people up and down the country .

But the sad thing is that they will never acknowledge this which means a complete restructure of the purpose of the BBC and hopefully privatising it .

Boris has already told you that he isn’t going to do anything with the BBC in his lifetime.

I’m afraid it’s likely to be 5 years of Blue Labour all over again, with 1.5 million migrants in the first year pilling into a country already struggling to house its population.

Boris is not only a coward, he’s also a Socialist don’t expect anything to change very much unless he’s pushed from the back benches.

My thoughts exactly. All we have done is dodged the one obvious red bullet but remember those who now call themselves “Conservative” these days have very little in common with the word, and mostly appear to be of the “progressive” mindset. These will be pushing Boris to get Brino “Done”

If he wanted too Boris could now easily play hardball with the EU and seriously threaten them with our WTO brexit and no cash. Instead with the support of mid market tabloids I expect we will now have to suffer Mays re-heated deal with all its implications over N Ireland, loss of sovereignty, continued fishing rights, loss of control of our armed forces and still be told what to do by the European Courts.

At some point this will become obvious and Boris will no longer be able to hide it by evasion and bluster, but by then it will probably be too late for we will have already signed up to an International Treaty.

What will stick in my crawl is that those same papers will then start publishing articles again saying how our fisherman are being ripped off or how our armed forces are no longer ours to control.

The electorate are the only losers in this and as usual the winners will be the establishment and political class and those who only see the UK as a small subsidiary of the EUPLC. Sorry to be a bucket of cold water but it is the truth as I see it.

          My view precisely.
What’s the bet that we will now slip surreptitiously closer to the EU?
I had always thought that Boris was a ‘put-up’ from the outset. Put in that role in supporting leaving simply because they had to have a Conservative fronting that role. Half-hearted Boris probably accepted, kicking and screaming. In saying that, I trust that it sinks into Boris and the Conservative party that if we don’t leave or, ‘leave’ on a super close residual relationship (BRINO), they will pay the price next election. Despite the exhortations of our Marxist State Broadcaster, the BABC, this last 24 or more hours has proven beyond question that the public really understand what’s going on and what has to be done – double quick, post-haste now.

I would like to add a point that hasn’t yet been made.

Labour lost this election for a number of reasons, but one of those reasons was the anti democratic ultra remainers refusal to accept the wishes of their voters. The Tories purged their nutters, Labour should have done but they haven’t.

People like Hilary Benn and Keir Starmer helped to make Labour unelectable, and I would suggest that had a bigger single effect on traditional Labour voters than any other single reason.

Fed, Bojo’s speech at QE2 Conference Hall this a.m. suggests it’s going to be a semi-socialist, semi-green, semi-in-EU, Conservative Government.

We (UK) still need some big miracles and I don’t think President Trump will provide them.

Sajid Javid is going to have a very difficult job paying for everything Bojo has promised and coughing up £40bn to leave the EU.

Our democracy has survived the LimbNonDem, Plaid Cymru and Blair/Campbell/Major assault but the SNP have a bridgehead and will take some seeing off.

Post election ‘peace and love ‘ speeches of ‘healing divisions’ is one of those rituals , in my opinion , which all newly elected PMs go through before engaging in payback .

The anti Conservative BBC propaganda will resume with a ‘first 100 days ‘ show to restart their 5 year battle to 2024 to get a new version of comrade Corbyn elected .

I refuse to be pessimistic – as far as the Scots national socialist who want independence in order to become an EU mini state – let them do what they are best at – moaning . The oil price screws the welfare state for Scotland if it remains where it is now .

          • Up2snuff says:

Am not pessimistic, Fed, rather thankful we did not get worse or far worse.

However, am realistic about Bojo. He wants to be loved above all else and that means he is very vulnerable.

As PM (and as Chancellor) you have to be prepared and be able to say “No.” to different spending Ministries and to actually do it. One of the things that destroyed Labour 1997-2010 is that although the Chiefs of Staff in No.10 and No.11 were ruthless and feared, the Bosses (Blair & Brown) likewise, they started spending. They were Labour. It’s what they do.

Only small amounts at first. But then £600,000 for this initiative and £500,000 for that project turned into £3m and £10m for other things in the following year or two. Then within a few years, the spending grew ever greater; millions became billions.

            Net result? 2007-2009.

Bojo has already promised the earth to a lot of government departments and now has the media as well as the nation expecting delivery.

He obviously now didn’t need to do so in order to win the GE but sticking to just £350m p/week for the NHS + leaving EU (and not paying to leave but demanding a share of the assets) would have been enough to win. Then he would be sitting on two easily delivered promises for GE 2024.

He has now created several millstones around his own neck and the necks of his administration. Five years is a very short time to deliver 40 hospitals, 50,000 nurses, more GPs & GP appointments, more Police, let alone do everything else. And, currently the kitty is £40bn negative. Fall short on any of those promises and Bojo will be very vulnerable next time.

There is no guarantee there will not be a world recession or at least downturn in the next five years. Europe & the EU is heading that way and Bojo wants to tie us in to Europe & the EU.

I’ve seen the state Bojo left London in. Sadiq Khan has merely made it worse.

What with all those wind turbines there is no no room for the wild haggis to run free and they now have to be factory-farmed, besides they contain meat!

Still, I expect there is always Irn Bru and Tunnock’s Teacakes, but is enough to fund free education and health care?

You are misunderstanding me here fedup. The Tories got rid of Grieve and Soubry, there were similar characters in Labour who are still there. It was in no small measure their fault Labour lost.

Any MP who does not believe in carrying out their constituents wishes has no place in Parliament
Brexit will happen and if these MPs are still there trying to wreck it Labour really stand little chance of improving their chances at the next election.

Yes – thoughtful – an excellent example was Dr Sarah Wollaston whose political career died last night . At least she can spend more time looking after patients now ……

They’ll all be queuing up for jobs at the BBC now . Pity a Dimbleby wasn’t about to have a face like a smacked bottom .

    FUTURE WARNING…

As we haven’t been burned by a hard left Labour Gov, i’m afraid in 5 years time, we will have an almighty struggle to stop the rise of the Idiotic left – promising nationalisation & absurd tax levels…i only hope that conservatives don’t betray us now and they really turn this country around outside the EU.

No amount of examples of Socialism not working / destroying economies / ruining lives & livelihoods will change the progressive left’s minds, the Utopia they strive for will be built on the back-bone of capitalism. I dread the day it happens. but for now lets focus on the next 5 years.

Well done to everyone here, for who ever your voted or didn’t vote.

I think when its comes being pro-brexit – we’ve got the better of the possible outcomes, when you consider the forces around trying to kill brexit or provide a sham brexit & who knows, maybe Bojo will surprise us yet again and carve NO DEAL into the table.

We,ll need Boris help in Brigadoon to deploy some “dark arts” against this SNP “brigade”………..e.g. they are suppressing calls for a major public enquiry into serious abuse allegations against a prominent football club…………….in other words there is a cover up………..

Krankie’s role in the lead up to the Salmond trial should provide some additional fertile ground………

  42. Demon says:

Boris, you have a big majority and this may be the last opportunity to implement all the following, and they all need to be implemented for the sake of the country’s future:

    1. Full Brexit.

    2. Sell off or scrap the BBC and Channel 4. Definitely get rid of the licence fee. If the BBC go independent they must change their name as they do not represent the British.

    3. Creation of an English Parliament with the same powers as the Scottish one.

    4. Reform the House of Lords, make it democratic (PR) then give it more power to check the crap coming out of the Commons. Alternatively, make it the supreme chamber that rules over disputes between the four parliaments.

    5. We need a written constitution where all branches of government are not allowed to exceed their remits. That includes the Supreme Court which needs totally reforming. They cannot be allowed to rule on party political issues, or political matters like Brexit.

    6. Reform the House of Commons by the following:
    a. scrap the fixed term parliament act.
    b. Define the powers of the Speaker.
    c. Define the powers of parliament with regards to the government.
In other words, they cannot be allowed to stop the government implementing their democratic rights.
    d. All MPs changing party must be subject to a bi-election within two months of them changing (not applied to those having the whip removed from them).

    7. Reform the voting system:
    a. Have a study on the benefits of PR. Until then implement boundary changes to make the vote fairer.
    b. Restrict postal voting to the sick, infirm, forces overseas etc. with confirmation from doctors or commanding officers as appropriate. Anybody who will be away due to business or training courses will need to get written confirmation from their bosses. If you will be on holiday then proof of travelling will need to be produced. Large numbers of postal voting in areas should be investigated by the police.
    c. Nobody, not even students, should be allowed to register to vote in more than one place.
    d. Everybody who turns up to vote must produce photo i.d. and no face coverings allowed in a polling station.
    e. Raise voting age to 21. (slightly tongue in cheek but it is better than 16).

    8. Reduce the emphasis on so-called hate crime. Make the police patrol the streets for crime rather than patrolling the internet for hurt feelings.

    9. Inspect schools and colleges to ensure teachers and lecturers are not propagandising children. Give them warnings if they fail and three strikes and they will be out. Stop sex education prior to 11 years old.

And now Boris, to ensure we get a better Brexit deal bring the Nigels, Farrage and Dodds, into your negotiating team. It would reassure Brexiteers if NF is involved, and also keep the Unionists in Northern Ireland happier.

Watching the BBC this morning. They are trying hard to claim that Brexit wasn’t the main reason that voters left Labour but that It was the Corbyn effect. Emily can’t hide her deep regret that Brexit is now very likely but she ,along with many of her guests , are not giving up on frustrating Brexit altogether. They are hoping and probably plotting to throw spanner’s in the works of the trade deal negotiations next year. They don’t seem to understand that the balance of power in the negotiations has shifted significantly. Firstly ,the British negotiating team will be much more cohesive than previously when it was full of Remainers . Secondly , the EU now knows that they are dealing with government which is Leave and which has another powerful mandate to leave. They know that the forces of Remain in the UK have finally been defeated. They also know that failure to reach a trade deal which is satisfactory to both parties will impact their main members as much as it will the UK.
The BBC are also thankful for the SNP for providing them with a stick with which to beat Boris . But the stick will soon snap when they realise that English and Welsh voters are not going to be blackmailed by the Scots for any longer.
Finally , I do want Boris to free us from the BBC. It is repulsive that we have to pay the LF under threat of imprisonment. Boris decriminalise non payment and the people will refuse to pay it en masse and consequently the BBC will be forced to ask to become a subscription service rather than in effect a free to air one.

It appears that the losers in this election are taking a leaf right from the Democratic Party is the US, and refusing any kind of graceful acknowledgement of defeat.
Expect a ‘resistance’ from BBC, C4, and the luvvies.
As we can all see, the economy generally will move in the right direction, but again like in the US, no credit is given.

that’s fine by me, it will only show how irrelevant the BBC have become.

More reason to disband the BBC or Remove the license Fee etc.

Let them bring themselves down, the result of this election shows that the BBC & C4 are far out of touch with this country.

CNN isn’t supported by a licence fee and is avowedly anti Trump and far Left. It appeals to New Yorkers and Californians and the USA is a big enough country to support multiple single interest broadcasters. The UK is nothing like the size, plus the BBC in being allowed to rely on unwatchable crap leftist output is not preparing itself for market launch

Sky offers broadband and phone services alongside several pay per view package options, the BBC has a take it attitude it doesn’t even have a take it or leave it attitude!

If it isn’t privatised soon, it will have gone past the point where it can be.
It’s a little like the Callaghan / Wilson government which propped up industries way past the point where they should have died a natural death.

I can’t believe that I used to have a schoolboy crush on her! That’s right you read correctly! When she was a reporter on ITV Central I think it was the voice and blonde hair not to mention my raging hormones.I rekindled my love for her years later when she became a Conservative MP.I can safely say I’ve gone right off her and now and wouldn’t even cock my leg if she was on fire.
