Midweek Open Thread 28 August 2019

With 64 days to go until Brexit it might be worth reminding the BBC that

270 voting areas voted leave – 406 constituencies
129 voting areas voted remain – 242 constituencies

Figures made unfamiliar by the biased MSM and worth remembering when traitors in the Bubble attempt to deny democracy.

R4 Science Show is airing an item on the Science book prize
.. for some reason Caroline Criado Perez’s book is classed as science
.. It’s flawed and she is a feminist activist

  2. Emmanuel Goldstein says:

As we (leavers) won the referendum, if the remainers get their way about another vote, the only fair way is that only leavers get to vote.
We won so we should decide where we go from here.
No deal, leave immediately, wto, amended WA, all can be offered and we leavers, the winners, should get to decide how we leave.

If you win the lottery it’s not up to those who lost to tell you how to spend your money.
    They lost.
It’s nothing to do with them.
    Same with the referendum.
    The losers can piss off.
Had they accepted losing we might have listened to any constructive positive thoughts they had but they’ve been totally negative and destructive, obstructing everything and so now don’t deserve any consideration.
They’ve cost us 100’s of £billions by delaying and with their silly games.

All MPs who don’t want to govern us and want to be told what to do by the eu should pack up and go live in their beloved eu.
    They won’t be missed.

    R4 just ran a trailer
presenter : Pakistani-Scottish Calvinist Muslim poet Imtiaz Dharker
From the blurb about one of the 3 items
In his poem Hindustani Musalmaan, or Indian Muslim, he explores the many influences that make up his identity and refuses to be defined by just one aspect – being a Muslim.”

  8. fakenewswatcher says:

Lots of ‘migrants’ in Gravelines, Dunkirk etc
Many little boats leaving for UK. Men in the back of trucks, etc.
Will we even have the right to stop them? After all, Ms May signed the UN Migrant Compact in Morroco last year.
Regardless of how binding that is, right at the moment, it sent a message.
Many countries, who reflected on what the text could mean for them, didn’t!
Read that, and suddenly Juncker and Verhofstad may not even look like the worst of our problems.
While we have been engrossed in Brexit, big things were happening, and the media weren’t about to enlighten us…

Got to give the bbc credit; they are trying their best. Fifty. Well, around that.

    • JimS says:

Probably led by the woman who keeps popping up on Jeremy Vine.
She set up a pro-EU stall in Hereford and, once, someone told her that they were for Brexit but that they had now changed their mind. I’ve lost count of the number of times she has been on to tell us this key fact.

  11. Guest Who says:

Just looked back at the BBC social media tally for the day.

The QT level Remain:Leave spokesperson ratio was no surprise, but it seemed a bit obvious that all quotes from the former were preceded by ‘says’, but the latter has ‘claims’.

BBC Editorial Guidelines clearly are in a unique league.

Look at the stock markets today after Boris caused utter democratic chaos according to the BBC , remember, it’s the BBC who always tell us the markets don’t like uncertainty !!!

Funny the BBC haven’t mentioned the markets performance today , Europe wide !! You can be as sure as eggs are eggs, that if they were down, we’d have had it rammed down our throats that it was Boris’s fault !!!!!!

Very selective lot at the Beeb !!!!!!!!

In case no one else has highlighted Jessica’s visit to Tommy Robinson, what she says in this three and a half minute video, not really about Tommy Robinson, should be very concerning for the prison governor and our Home Secretary:

Or is it ok for his muslim mates to come and go as they please in our prisons?

And what about the mental health of Julian Assange?

    • pertelote says:

I thought they “ran” the prisons? ..they do don’t they?

Surprisingly Facebook is taking a break from forcing Pro-Cirbyn and Anti-Brexit groups at me
It just recommended the “I Hate the BBC” group

(that get automatically get cross-posted there)

    • Fedup2 says:

Away from Brexit the BBC has said it is ok for a so called comedian to say this –

“I’m thinking why bother with a milkshake when you could get some battery acid.”

…… to throw over some politician ( the reference was to Nigel Farage).

The lady who made the comment – a ms Josephine Brand – has returned to BBC employment putting taxpayers’ licence fees into her bank account .

  18. Beeb Brother says:

I used to so love the World Service programmes through the night on radio 4; I’d wake up happy I had learned something new. I had to leave as the SJW onslaught was unbearable.

I decided to give it another go this morning. One of their main stories was a discovery that being gay is fine. Then onto a programme about a boy from Luton talking about racism.

Radio 4 used to be such a solace but it has been ruined. Such a terrible, terrible shame. They decided to change it to attract new listeners but what about loyal fans? You can just imagine elderly Brits switching off in their millions. Who wants to hear the same things over and over and over again? Never any insight or analysis: just the same whining, patronising poison.

Nobody new will come to the channel for garbage like this and the current listeners will abandon it. Plus the whole project to change it all has probably cost a fortune. Like so many liberal projects a load of time and money has been spent to make something much worse.

    • Fedup2 says:

I’m the same . The World Service was once the last shelter from the domestic rubbish and propaganda the BBC put out . And then it very quickly went down the toilet . I don’t even look at the schedule of the “ worlds radio station” – pity the world doesn’t pay for the rubbish .

    • Deborah says:

Yesterday Radio 4 had a charming programme about a globe maker who makes extremely expensive items. It was interesting and I thought ‘this is what the BBC used to make all the time’. About 25 minutes in we had to have climate change and its effect on maps. They really can’t help themselves.

    • SPC says:

Yes, I’m with you on that – it s a great loss to me and my sleepless nights. I too have to switch it off – there is so much purile nonsense on. Of course the children should be tucked up in bed that time of night but there they are, broadcasting. Do their Mums/Dads/Undefined, know they are out?

  19. Sluff says:

    Toady. MAX bias alert !!!

Discussing no deal and the prorogation of parliament at 0720.

Justin Webb interviews two people to discuss the prospect of direct mass action, protests, sit-ins, and occupations !!

First he interviews Clive Lewis, Labour MP
Then, for balance, (hahahahaha) he interviews………..a hard Left trot from Momentum !!!!!!!
Said trot, female (was THAT the balance?) then goes on to talk, with no hint of irony, about democratic rights!!!!!!

They essentially agree with each other in a slightly bizarre love-fest. Webb of course gives them both an easy ride. No mention of, for example, the democracy of the referendum result. The BBC attitude to democracy is, shall we say, selective.

Is that enough bias for you? Console yourselves. Webb announces that later on, they’ll be discussing the issue with……Shami Chakrabati, one of their favourite go-to Corbyn spokespersons !!

Thank goodness for the off switch.

    • Nibor says:

And then they laugh when the Troskeyite intimated that the Financial Times was against the Prime Minister and the FT wasn’t left wing .

  21. Dover Sentry says:

    BBC TV News 08.22 today

Feature on the plight of British pensioners in Spain regarding their free Spanish medication after a No-Deal Brexit.

The new BBC phrase used in this example of Project Fear is ‘Potentially-Could’.

The fact is that the Spanish have a Royal Decree that will continue the free medication after a No Deal. Formalised arrangements will thereafter continue the free medication. This is reciprocal and will also apply to Spanish pensioners living in the UK.

    • JamesArthur says:

      Exactly Dover
They have started using the ‘potentially could’ and ‘ may’ quite a lot
Their ‘reporters’ are also now more likely to say ‘I think….’
I don’t care what they think..I want to know the news not their opinion as though it is fact…

Re Spanish project fear – my in-laws live in France and became French domiciled years ago – If these Brits are so worried and want to stay in Spain, why not do the same?
Likewise the EU citizens in the UK – I have close friends who have all been here for years – mainly from Italy and Poland – who have become UK citizens – they didn’t have any issues but the BBC seems to find the ones that did…amazing

      • Rob in Cheshire says:

        Exactly right.

The father of a friend has retired to Portugal. He is registered as a Portuguese resident, and will have no problem after Brexit (which he voted for, I might add).

The Portuguese are apparently a friendly and pro-British nation, with a very good tax regime for expats. There is no need for the EU to stick its nose in.

  22. JamesArthur says:

Is it me? The BBC and R4 don’t seem to be able to find a single positive story about the potential benefits of leaving EU and equally don’t seem to be able to interview anyone who isn’t aligned to Labour Liberals or Remainer Tories….
When will those with the power act over this bloody obvious bias?

  23. Foscari says:

The BBC’S obsession with diversity shows no bounds. We the listener,
the viewer ,or the reader of the BBC web pages are bombarded
with what the BBC considers to be their primary duty ,to bombard
us with their virtue signalling diversity agenda.
Just look at today’s Lifestyle feature on today’s main page on
the website.. “Most popular baby names for 2018 revealed.”
” How many school uniforms does your child need?” ” Seven
ways to get your child ready to start school.”

  24. Doobster78 says:

    Hello …. RESULT

  25. StewGreen says:

Again and again we see that news reports run with narrative construction rather than truth
News reporting is a kind of show biz
simple exciting narratives run, and complex, full context ones don’t .
There is n inherent pressure to spin within the industry, journos feel they have to spin, they have to play god.
    And you might do too.

R4 just now had the Death on the Rock prog
about the reporting of the SAS shooting of the IRA terrorists in Gibraltar on 6th March 1988

The key thing was afterwards on on 19th March, a Belfast funeral crowd came across two soldiers and took the Gibraltar event as licence to execute these 2 soldiers.
The IRA issued a statement “The IRA, claims responsibility for the execution of two SAS members who launched an attack on the funeral cortege of our comrade volunteer Kevin Brady”
.. actually the 2 soldiers were not SAS.
The army helicopter above chose to only film the event and not intervene.

If you were a journo at that time you would know that reporting the truth about Gibraltar that “the situation was murky and that a possible scenario was that SAS were executing IRA terrorists”, contributed to the febrile atmosphere at the funeral.
And had the media spun the narrative a different way , then those soldiers might not have been killed.

The inquest much later accepted the line that the SAS soldiers had been spooked by making eye contact with the IRA members as a police car drove past and had opened fire before the IRA could harm them or anyone else.

    • StewGreen says:

There is an additional not EU but European Court angle to the case.
The families accepted that the IRA members had been on active terrorist duty at the time, but since UK law says you can’t shoot someone just for being a terrorist they appealed above the inquest to the European Court of Human Rights

In 1995. The court narrowly ruled that the human rights of the ‘Gibraltar Three’ had been infringed in breach of Article 2 – right to life, of the European Convention on Human Rights
Saying, the authorities lacked ‘the degree of caution in the use of firearms to be expected ..’
Some newspapers headlined that as “unlawfully killed”
But the ECtHR also ruled that the three had been engaged in an act of terrorism, and consequently dismissed claims for damages.
Also the inquest verdict still stands cos ECtHR is not empowered to overrule national decisions or annul national laws.

  26. Thoughtful says:

I see one of Philip Hammonds lackeys has been frogmarched out of 11 Downing Street by Police under allegation of leaking information to assist the remain campaign.

What the media isn’t so keen on telling is that it’s yet another Pakistani Muslim without any loyalty or morals.

    • vesnadog says:

Bet all her male relatives are taxi drivers and her female ones temporary Muslim government lakeys.

Pretty sure if his great grandfather could see what he had a part in producing he would be holding his head in his hands right now, and rightly so !!

    • Sluff says:

Would those ‘democratic values’ Mr Gurney mentions include by any chance
      1. The referendum result
      2. The election platforms of both main parties in 2017 to honour the referendum result
      3. The vote for article 50
      4. The vote for the referendum bill
      5. The 2019 EU election result, where the Brexit Party were the overwhelming winners
      6. The Tory leadership contest where the clear winner supported a no-deal scenario?

How much ‘democracy’ do these people and their BBC chums want to ignore?

    • Rob in Cheshire says:

Maybe Conor’s great grandfather fought so that Britain could be a free and independent nation?

Just a thought Conor, please don’t cry.

  28. Mackers says:

On the bbc u.s news page they feature angus deaton a nobel economist’s view on drug’s and poverty in the u.s.a. A very biassed distorted opinion,he blames capitalism, no mention that the homelessness is rife in( so called liberal) democrat run cities. I could go on and on, the whole feature is purposely deceptive.Typical bbc.

  29. theisland says:

    Free and independent nation eh?

Oh dear – this looks bad. What is the matter with these people? I thought Raab was supposed to have some nous.

Not good enough Dom – pay attention – we need to extricate ourselves from the EU Defence Union.
You need to sack FCO staff, starting with Angus Lapsley as a priority, NOT obediently do what they tell you.

Do a bit of research as a matter of urgency and make an appointment to speak with Veterans for Britain. Then tell BoJo what’s what.

    • Sluff says:

I believe NATO has done quite well over the last 5 decades.
Amazingly it has nothing to do with the EU.

  30. Doobster78 says:

Petition to stop the prorogation of Parliament signed by over 1.6 million people

Now, to say this “petition” has been advertised all over the BBC and MSM and given that its, according to the BBC and the Left, one of the worst acts of anti democracy in the history of the world, then 1.6 million is pitiful. It really is.

Just goes to show, these Remainers and the BBC under-estimated the “little people” at the Referendum and they are still way off the mark with how “THEY” think we feel now.

    Bubble dwellers personified.

    • vesnadog says:

As I understand it. Anyone in the world can sign it. So that’s even more pitiful.

  31. JamesArthur says:

It is about time they realised that these petitions are so easy to fill with false votes – but doubt they want to look into it….

    • Doobster78 says:

James !! The Left, Vote rigging ??? Fiddling petitions !!! Wash your mouth out !! The left are bastion’s of honesty, integrity , peace and tolerance. Please don’t tar them with your far right brush !!! LOL .

  32. Sluff says:

Mrs S reports the following telling vignette.
She was listening to Radio5 Dead at around 1050.

She reports that Adrian Chiles had some sort of Damascenian penny-dropping experience.
He seems to have realised that a serious no-deal Brexit option is an essential part of any negotiating position with the EU.

Wow! Any business person who has ever negotiated anything could have told him that.
Watching a sinner repent is always welcome but it just goes to show how out of touch these ‘talented’ BBC ‘presenters’ really are.

  33. Terminal Moraine says:

Sub-Saharan migrants cut their way through fences in Cueta, Morocco today to Spanish land using electric saws, aerosols as flame throwers, plastic containers filled with quicklime and excrement, and sticks and stones to keep officers at bay. 15 guards injured.

Numbers vary but reports average about 400-600 migrants attempt to cross, wanting to go to France. This report from China’s CGTN, good luck finding it reported in European MSM…

  34. AsISeeIt says:

I was in my long-time favourite spit & sawdust barber shop this week where I overheard a Brazilan guy chatting. He said the current forest fires were not unusual they happen all the time. His main fear was that the west led by Macron would put sanctions on his country.

Seems to me the globalists are not keen on the present leadership of Brazil & would be keen for regime change. Of course the BBC play their part by sensationalising the bush fires and they try to whip up international outrage.

    • JamesArthur says:

Great article in Spectator ( best magazine I have subscribed to) on the Brazilian fires with real discussion and facts and not the Macron Virtue signalling – apparently it is worse in Bolvia but that’s a left wing socialist government and doesn’t have the threat to France that Brazil does with exports. Cynical..me?

  35. StewGreen says:

In almost every GLOBAL WARMING PR machine story there is a BBC cog or two

  36. tomo says:

Little sign of the FBI Inspector General report on the BBC today – what a surprise – not.

The BBC troupe of toadies have typed thousands of words defending the utterly ghastly James Comey and now they’re all quiet when it is clear that he pissed all over the FBI’s motto “Fidelity, Bravery and Integrity” .

Like bureaucrats the world over there is little eagerness inside the beltway(i.e. from his peers….) for some kind punishment to be meted out to somebody who broke rules (and laws, lots of ’em) that would have an ordinary citizen banged up for several lifetimes.

Even allowing for the neutered language that the IG uses it’s abundantly clear that by almost any measure Comey not only lied continuously, he obstructed the investigation of serious crimes and sought repeatedly to entrap his notional boss POTUS – and all by inference at the behest of his political masters – since the man appears devoid of any ideological motivation and has not to my knowledge expressed a particular political philosophy and has amply demonstrated where his allegiance lies…

Comey was a doubling dealing courtier from the previous administration – what a shame that DJT is no Cesare Borgia.

The unravelling continues…. although the pace has noticeably slowed (assisted in no small part by a convenient suicide) – it remains to be seen if the ‘Merkans have the determination to see this through.

  37. Fedup2 says:

I’m very disappointed . Someone on this site sticks to tradition by putting up the mugshots of the latest Pakistani Muslim Racist Paedophile Rape gang convicted following years of State non action .
The BBC has put it on their main website but in the time it has taken for me to type this -it’s probably gone to
‘Local’ before disappearing with all the rest ….. I so believe in the Death penalty …..

( I’d do it meself but don’t have the techy – it’s necessary to see the faces of these monsters in order to remind our selves what our politicians have done by letting the third world in )

        • Annunaki says:

Yes, and if execution makes the state a murderer, surely imprisonment makes the state a gay dungeonmaster, again, just sayin’

  38. Annunaki says:

How many thousands are still out there doing this ? and yet not a whisper about the biggest sex crime scandal in UK history ? i.e. immigrants from ONE country of ONE cult / religion repeatedly preying on children ONLY outside of their medieval death cult religion and racially abusing them at the same time

God just imagine if just ONE of their brood was attacked in this way by white british gangs the placards and megaphones would be at the ready in an instant, we would NEVER hear the end of it as they all crawl out of their ghettos to protest, but we soon do with this bunch of semi human filth, their most hienous crimes against humanity repeatedly swept under the carpet by the bbc over and over again

And yet the bbc are desperate to highlight anyone using the word “black” in an argument with a black thug, unbelievably perverse and twisted behaviour by the bbc

The word racist is used over and again by this lot and others and yet this is a prime example of the most disgusting racism imaginable and totally ignored by the bbc

(many young teenage victimes were tied naked to beds and physically whipped by gangs of this scum and called “white [email protected] and other names according to accounts of one victim)

Yet bbc happy to report anyone using the word black in an argument with anyone

    • JamesArthur says:

Too busy worry about a few Europeans that can’t be bothered to fill in their forms to stay here….

  39. Sluff says:

The absolutely nauseating BBC is doing a big whingeing feature on the 6pm news about the 150,000 (!!!!) immigrants a year who become British citizens.

    1. The test is too difficult
    2. It is not really representative since UK people cannot really answer the questions
    3. It can take 6 years and cost over £5,000.

Oh dear. How sad. Never mind.
The benefits of course (free NHS, education, social security, pensions etc., about everything) are never mentioned. Nor is the real downer – voting rights. The real Labour Party gerrymandering objective behind open door mass immigration in the first place.

    Useless, biased, agenda-driven reporting.

    Pass the sick bag.

    • pertelote says:

“The real Labour Party gerrymandering objective behind open door mass immigration in the first place.”

Sadly I fear we’re stuffed whether or not we extricate ourselves effectively from the the crock of shite that is the EU. We have our very own “Fifth column”.. and it’s breeding fast. Whad’ya think Ollie?

  40. TrickCyclist says:

    BBC News at Six.
Footage of pro-EU protestors outside Parliament has “vignetting” applied, i.e. the images darken at the edges.
“Vignetting is either caused by optics, or is purposefully added in post-processing in order to draw the viewer’s eye away from the distractions in the corner, towards the center of the image.”
Or, as the cynic in me might infer, to attempt to obscure the true numbers at a protest?

  41. Sluff says:

    Stop press.
    On BBC London news.
    The presenter is Alex Bushell.
    He is MALE and WHITE.
This has not happened for months.
Either all the other presenters bar none are on holiday or the person who organises the roster is about to get a major disciplinary.

  42. Sluff says:

BBCLondon news are covering the word ‘HELCH’ which has appeared in massive letters on the railway viaduct into Windsor destroying the view. We are encouraged to treat this as ‘art’. Other ‘graffiti artists’ are coming along with their graffiti, ready to trash the view further.
The presenter, Sarah Harris, actually smirked as she presented.
Can I call her a total cow ??? I feel it is appropriate given her positive attitude to trashing our heritage, an attitude I find execrable

PS the very next article was about a gay rugby club, many of whose members appeared live in the studio. Enough agenda for you? The following article was about the South Asian festival in Southall !!! FFS.

    • Fedup2 says:

Sluff – there has been a fashion of these graffiti vandals taking themselves out of the gene pool by ending under trains . Felt sorry for the train driver and whoever has to scoop the remains up . The BBC would probably see it as a cultural expression …

The BBC does seem to have a thing for ‘driven’ young women.

    • Annunaki says:

Well the muzzies will not generally allow females to drive a car themselves when they are in total control and, of course are to be seen and not heard, unless they are asking “does my bomb look big in this ?”

  46. Despairada says:

    Not just the beeb:

I switched over to LBC to get away from The Archers. Phone ins on LBC calling Boris a tin pot dictator and liar. The presenter Ayesha Hazarika (!) seems to assume the masses will be out on the streets in protest and she is worried about hospitals being disrupted.

Are your friends and relatives spitting tacks and heading for the streets over this? Are the populace being rabble roused by the media?

Henry Deedes in the Mail* yesterday came out with the best metaphor to describe the remainer outrage:

“You could almost hear the sound of twisted knicker elastic twanging all the way down Whitehall”.

Henry’s not in the same league as Quentin Letts but he has his moments.

    * Free with my Waitrose shopping.

  47. fakenewswatcher says:

As ever, the “Question Time” audience on R4 sound exactly like a Labour party meeting.
How do the bbc manage it? Seems there never were 17.4 million ‘leave’ voters – they simply can’t be found anywhere by the beeb. Question Time almost always features a howling lefty mob, no matter where they are!
Quite astonishing! As for Brexit, they all despise it, needless to say. Utterly predictable.
The questioners are mostly similarly inclined to the audience. By the time they have phrased their questions, they have given themselves away.
Unsurprisingly, tonight is a festival of the ‘outraged’. Who is the most outraged? There must be a big prize?
Who is the loudest, shrillest churner out of the most tired platitudes and slogans? Tonight that prize must surely go to Caroline Lucas! My goodness, is she indignant or what? I hope she doesn’t fall off her chair. Oh yes, and democratic little her, she is going to have an ‘alternate parliament’. The one we have isn’t doing what she wants.

It seems the lefty pro europe are getting the most attention from the msm, maybe because they are all addicted to social media platforms (apart from this one where they can be challenged) I am sick of hearing about so called twitter storms which generally refers to 20 people whingeing,

Protesters generally refers to the disenfranchised, or rather those who have exercised their franchise to no avail, yet refuse to accept their opinion is a minority one, so carry on protesting against an overwhelming (over a million majority) vote to leave europe without any requirement for a deal, as they believe they are right depite the majority that disagree.

those who have tried every underhand trick to hijack and prevent the will of that overwhelming majority and yet whinge and whine endlessly when they are frustrated, and have the aboslute gall to use the word “democracy” in their favour

Socialism, whilst sounding fair, and a good idea at school, in practice is the very opposite of nature and the survival of the fittest, and our school system under blair has ensured that there are many obsessed with the ideals of protecting such things as Notting Hill carnival where 5 people have been murdered so far in the last few years, , thousands mugged and sexually assaulted, 12400 police deployed this year and hundreds of thousands of working peoples tax spent on black people copulating on the roof of bus shelters and celebrating it

and not a single word from the Greta thungberg obsessed media about the environmental impact of all the shit just thrown into the streets by this sector of our society

there are quite a few pics of those cleaning it up and not many of them vibrant or enriching as they have to work all night
