Midweek Open Thread 28 August 2019

With 64 days to go until Brexit it might be worth reminding the BBC that

270 voting areas voted leave – 406 constituencies
129 voting areas voted remain – 242 constituencies

Figures made unfamiliar by the biased MSM and worth remembering when traitors in the Bubble attempt to deny democracy.

As we (leavers) won the referendum, if the remainers get their way about another vote, the only fair way is that only leavers get to vote.
We won so we should decide where we go from here.
No deal, leave immediately, wto, amended WA, all can be offered and we leavers, the winners, should get to decide how we leave.

If you win the lottery it’s not up to those who lost to tell you how to spend your money.
    They lost.
It’s nothing to do with them.
    Same with the referendum.
    The losers can piss off.
Had they accepted losing we might have listened to any constructive positive thoughts they had but they’ve been totally negative and destructive, obstructing everything and so now don’t deserve any consideration.
They’ve cost us 100’s of £billions by delaying and with their silly games.

All MPs who don’t want to govern us and want to be told what to do by the eu should pack up and go live in their beloved eu.
    They won’t be missed.

Lots of ‘migrants’ in Gravelines, Dunkirk etc
Many little boats leaving for UK. Men in the back of trucks, etc.
Will we even have the right to stop them? After all, Ms May signed the UN Migrant Compact in Morroco last year.
Regardless of how binding that is, right at the moment, it sent a message.
Many countries, who reflected on what the text could mean for them, didn’t!
Read that, and suddenly Juncker and Verhofstad may not even look like the worst of our problems.

I used to so love the World Service programmes through the night on radio 4; I’d wake up happy I had learned something new. I had to leave as the SJW onslaught was unbearable.

I decided to give it another go this morning. One of their main stories was a discovery that being gay is fine. Then onto a programme about a boy from Luton talking about racism.

Radio 4 used to be such a solace but it has been ruined. Such a terrible, terrible shame. They decided to change it to attract new listeners but what about loyal fans? You can just imagine elderly Brits switching off in their millions. Who wants to hear the same things over and over and over again? Never any insight or analysis: just the same whining, patronising poison.

Nobody new will come to the channel for garbage like this and the current listeners will abandon it. Plus the whole project to change it all has probably cost a fortune. Like so many liberal projects a load of time and money has been spent to make something much worse.

Said trot, female (was THAT the balance?) then goes on to talk, with no hint of irony, about democratic rights!!!!!!

    BBC TV News 08.22 today

Feature on the plight of British pensioners in Spain regarding their free Spanish medication after a No-Deal Brexit.

The new BBC phrase used in this example of Project Fear is ‘Potentially-Could’.

The fact is that the Spanish have a Royal Decree that will continue the free medication after a No Deal. Formalised arrangements will thereafter continue the free medication. This is reciprocal and will also apply to Spanish pensioners living in the UK.

Likewise the EU citizens in the UK – I have close friends who have all been here for years – mainly from Italy and Poland – who have become UK citizens – they didn’t have any issues but the BBC seems to find the ones that did…amazing

Again and again we see that news reports run with narrative construction rather than truth
News reporting is a kind of show biz
simple exciting narratives run, and complex, full context ones don’t .
There is n inherent pressure to spin within the industry, journos feel they have to spin, they have to play god.
    And you might do too.

R4 just now had the Death on the Rock prog
about the reporting of the SAS shooting of the IRA terrorists in Gibraltar on 6th March 1988

The key thing was afterwards on on 19th March, a Belfast funeral crowd came across two soldiers and took the Gibraltar event as licence to execute these 2 soldiers.
The IRA issued a statement “The IRA, claims responsibility for the execution of two SAS members who launched an attack on the funeral cortege of our comrade volunteer Kevin Brady”
.. actually the 2 soldiers were not SAS.
The army helicopter above chose to only film the event and not intervene.

If you were a journo at that time you would know that reporting the truth about Gibraltar that “the situation was murky and that a possible scenario was that SAS were executing IRA terrorists”, contributed to the febrile atmosphere at the funeral.
And had the media spun the narrative a different way , then those soldiers might not have been killed.

The inquest much later accepted the line that the SAS soldiers had been spooked by making eye contact with the IRA members as a police car drove past and had opened fire before the IRA could harm them or anyone else.

    • StewGreen says:

There is an additional not EU but European Court angle to the case.
The families accepted that the IRA members had been on active terrorist duty at the time, but since UK law says you can’t shoot someone just for being a terrorist they appealed above the inquest to the European Court of Human Rights

In 1995. The court narrowly ruled that the human rights of the ‘Gibraltar Three’ had been infringed in breach of Article 2 – right to life, of the European Convention on Human Rights
Saying, the authorities lacked ‘the degree of caution in the use of firearms to be expected ..’
Some newspapers headlined that as “unlawfully killed”
But the ECtHR also ruled that the three had been engaged in an act of terrorism, and consequently dismissed claims for damages.
Also the inquest verdict still stands cos ECtHR is not empowered to overrule national decisions or annul national laws.

Little sign of the FBI Inspector General report on the BBC today – what a surprise – not.

The BBC troupe of toadies have typed thousands of words defending the utterly ghastly James Comey and now they’re all quiet when it is clear that he pissed all over the FBI’s motto “Fidelity, Bravery and Integrity” .

Like bureaucrats the world over there is little eagerness inside the beltway(i.e. from his peers….) for some kind punishment to be meted out to somebody who broke rules (and laws, lots of ’em) that would have an ordinary citizen banged up for several lifetimes.

Even allowing for the neutered language that the IG uses it’s abundantly clear that by almost any measure Comey not only lied continuously, he obstructed the investigation of serious crimes and sought repeatedly to entrap his notional boss POTUS – and all by inference at the behest of his political masters – since the man appears devoid of any ideological motivation and has not to my knowledge expressed a particular political philosophy and has amply demonstrated where his allegiance lies…

Comey was a doubling dealing courtier from the previous administration – what a shame that DJT is no Cesare Borgia.

The unravelling continues…. although the pace has noticeably slowed (assisted in no small part by a convenient suicide) – it remains to be seen if the ‘Merkans have the determination to see this through.

“The real Labour Party gerrymandering objective behind open door mass immigration in the first place.”

Sadly I fear we’re stuffed whether or not we extricate ourselves effectively from the the crock of shite that is the EU. We have our very own “Fifth column”.. and it’s breeding fast. Whad’ya think Ollie?

    BBC News at Six.
Footage of pro-EU protestors outside Parliament has “vignetting” applied, i.e. the images darken at the edges.
    https://photographylife.com/what-is-vignetting
“Vignetting is either caused by optics, or is purposefully added in post-processing in order to draw the viewer’s eye away from the distractions in the corner, towards the center of the image.”
Or, as the cynic in me might infer, to attempt to obscure the true numbers at a protest?

    Stop press.
    On BBC London news.
    The presenter is Alex Bushell.
    He is MALE and WHITE.
This has not happened for months.
Either all the other presenters bar none are on holiday or the person who organises the roster is about to get a major disciplinary.

    Next.
BBCLondon news are covering the word ‘HELCH’ which has appeared in massive letters on the railway viaduct into Windsor destroying the view. We are encouraged to treat this as ‘art’. Other ‘graffiti artists’ are coming along with their graffiti, ready to trash the view further.
The presenter, Sarah Harris, actually smirked as she presented.
Can I call her a total cow ??? I feel it is appropriate given her positive attitude to trashing our heritage, an attitude I find execrable

PS the very next article was about a gay rugby club, many of whose members appeared live in the studio. Enough agenda for you? The following article was about the South Asian festival in Southall !!! FFS.

Sluff – there has been a fashion of these graffiti vandals taking themselves out of the gene pool by ending under trains . Felt sorry for the train driver and whoever has to scoop the remains up . The BBC would probably see it as a cultural expression …

Well the muzzies will not generally allow females to drive a car themselves when they are in total control and, of course are to be seen and not heard, unless they are asking “does my bomb look big in this ?”

    Not just the beeb:

I switched over to LBC to get away from The Archers. Phone ins on LBC calling Boris a tin pot dictator and liar. The presenter Ayesha Hazarika (!) seems to assume the masses will be out on the streets in protest and she is worried about hospitals being disrupted.

Are your friends and relatives spitting tacks and heading for the streets over this? Are the populace being rabble roused by the media?

Henry Deedes in the Mail* yesterday came out with the best metaphor to describe the remainer outrage:

“You could almost hear the sound of twisted knicker elastic twanging all the way down Whitehall”.

Henry’s not in the same league as Quentin Letts but he has his moments.

As ever, the “Question Time” audience on R4 sound exactly like a Labour party meeting.
How do the bbc manage it? Seems there never were 17.4 million ‘leave’ voters – they simply can’t be found anywhere by the beeb. Question Time almost always features a howling lefty mob, no matter where they are!
Quite astonishing! As for Brexit, they all despise it, needless to say. Utterly predictable.
The questioners are mostly similarly inclined to the audience. By the time they have phrased their questions, they have given themselves away.
Unsurprisingly, tonight is a festival of the ‘outraged’. Who is the most outraged? There must be a big prize?
Who is the loudest, shrillest churner out of the most tired platitudes and slogans? Tonight that prize must surely go to Caroline Lucas! My goodness, is she indignant or what? I hope she doesn’t fall off her chair. Oh yes, and democratic little her, she is going to have an ‘alternate parliament’. The one we have isn’t doing what she wants.

It seems the lefty pro europe are getting the most attention from the msm, maybe because they are all addicted to social media platforms (apart from this one where they can be challenged) I am sick of hearing about so called twitter storms which generally refers to 20 people whingeing,

Protesters generally refers to the disenfranchised, or rather those who have exercised their franchise to no avail, yet refuse to accept their opinion is a minority one, so carry on protesting against an overwhelming (over a million majority) vote to leave europe without any requirement for a deal, as they believe they are right depite the majority that disagree.

those who have tried every underhand trick to hijack and prevent the will of that overwhelming majority and yet whinge and whine endlessly when they are frustrated, and have the aboslute gall to use the word “democracy” in their favour

Socialism, whilst sounding fair, and a good idea at school, in practice is the very opposite of nature and the survival of the fittest, and our school system under blair has ensured that there are many obsessed with the ideals of protecting such things as Notting Hill carnival where 5 people have been murdered so far in the last few years, , thousands mugged and sexually assaulted, 12400 police deployed this year and hundreds of thousands of working peoples tax spent on black people copulating on the roof of bus shelters and celebrating it

and not a single word from the Greta thungberg obsessed media about the environmental impact of all the shit just thrown into the streets by this sector of our society

there are quite a few pics of those cleaning it up and not many of them vibrant or enriching as they have to work all night
