Midweek Open Thread 26 June 2019

Day 6 of the Boris Johnson crucifixion . Even the least attentive person must , by now , have realised that the Main Stream Media -led by a hostile biased BBC – are out for Mr Johnson’s blood . Only President Trump has received more vilification .

Perhaps , on the up side , more people will become conscious of what the MSM / BBC is doing in the name of taxpayers . And perhaps they’ll get Fedup too .

Yes, very little mention of global warming by the BBC a few days ago when it was only 13C here in southern England and in the middle of June. And, of course, prior to around 2000 the weather never ever varied from the average.

Immigration appears to be No.1 Topic. Unfortunately, the TOADY team appear to have forgotten about AGW, CC, C-E and all the other climate things, including Net Zero.

Carbon Net Zero really means net zero immigration into the UK. Yes, BBC, net zero immigration. Just think about it BBC. You cannot have any immigration into the UK that causes AGW, CC, C-E, etc, etc. Any migration that causes CO2 will have to be offset somehow. We will be struggling to do that for the existing population and their pop festivals.

Funny, no questions asked about that.

    I wonder why?

Something wrong with BBC Radio transmission this morning? Martha appeared to be broadcasting through heavy rain from Japan. Receiver re-tuned. Still fuzzy from Japan.

Cannot be the weather, can it? It’s a heatwave, we are told. That would explain why Snuffy has had to abandon shorts and put on a sweater for the past two days.

Snuff – No, instead we seem to be a seeing a new R4 formula: more skilled but fewer unskilled ‘migrants’ from the EU; more unskilled from outside the EU instead. Did I get that right? Or was that up to now? Will have to keep listening. Drat.
Since the governments of past years, Conservative or Labour, seem to have not controlled non-EU immigration anyway, what’s new, I wonder? Blair in fact- deliberately ‘imported’ several million non-EU to ‘give the Tories one in the eye’. (A second criminal offence, along with the ‘dodgy dossier’ war.)
Boris is talking about an Australian points system. However, that included keeping ‘asylum seekers’ off Australian territory, while their claims are considered. How does Boris feel about that?
The ‘asylum’ racket is really at the heart of current problems, whether in Europe or the US. But nobody really wants to discuss this. (75% of ‘migrants’ trying to get into US are ‘asylum seekers’ we were told this morning). The definition of ‘asylum’ has gone far beyond what was originally intended e.g. being ‘gay’ in a country that ‘persecutes’ gays.

    • Up2snuff says:

Don’t know about skills, fnw. It’s any immigration skilled or not.

If you think about it any migration not only causes CO2 at the time but leads to it later on, apart from breathing, there is electricity use, gas use for heating and cooking, although that will be banned soon, CO2 for getting to and from work, while working and then there is all that shopping for plastic packed food and going to electric pop festivals like Glasto. That’s before you get to the CO2 for visits back to the country of origin and visits from relatives there.

Can’t be done if Net Zero means zero. Skills or no skills.

Last night’s BBC London News brought a wry smile to my wrinkled old chops.
Apparently there has been an 80% increase in pick-pocketing on the London underground.
The presenters, one Asian man and a black lass were musing as to the mysterious reasons for this criminal conundrum. “What’s going on?” they whimpered.
As this hapless duo were discussing these events we saw film of the police handcuffing a couple of suspects, both clearly not native to these shores.
These PC types make me chuckle, though I’m fully aware there’s little to laugh at.

I awoke this morning to the (seemingly inevitable) news of more stabbings in enriched areas of the capital; one fatality…thus far.
And then, to add insult to injury, I read that even donkeys in a south east London sanctuary aren’t safe from attack and one of the poor blighters has been stabbed. A spokesman said “We think it’s a local gang showing off their knife skills.”
Somehow I find this even more sickening than when these brutes are hacking each other to death.

Meanwhile, in charge of policing the metropolis, we have Mayor Khan, who clearly can’t and Dick of the Yard, who hasn’t got a bleedin’ scooby do.

On Toady this morning they are still bigging up the shock, horror, scandal of a child killed when his father crossed the Rio Grande with them and failed in his duty of care. The BBC clearly believes that foreign states should take over the responsibilities of parents.
Cue Justin Webb impartial interview about the US -Mexican border with a Democrat and, for balance, a……errr….Independent !
Both gave a reasonable view and there was a sting in the tail.
Webb cretinously followed the usual BBC line and tried to goad them, ‘to what extent is this all due to Donald Trump’.

‘Its been going on for decades’.

      Spiked article.
Hundreds of migrants died every year at the Mexican-US border under the Obama administration and more undocumented migrants were deported by the Obama administration than by any previous administration.

In total, 7,216 people died crossing the US-Mexico border between 1998 and 2017. Where were the frontpage headlines? Why weren’t there massive marches when Obama visited London? Why was there no talk of ‘America’s shame’ or ‘America’s concentration camps’?
The answer to this question is as straightforward as it is disturbing. It’s because the current discussion isn’t really driven by a concern for migrants. Rather, it is driven by an exhausted left’s urge to find an issue on which it might successfully harm its political opponents and, even more importantly, demonstrate its own presumed virtue. The thoroughness with which contemporary radicals reduce every issue to an opportunity for political point-scoring and virtuous public preening is summed up in their sudden, cynical discovery that bad things happen on the Mexico-US border.

Sluff – I’m not that optimistic. That terrible photo is going to get a lot more mileage from the MSM. Trump will continue to be a target: would you be surprised if, every time Trump says ‘wall’, the MSM bring out the photo?
Remember the photo of the little boy who drowned in the Med and was found on a Greek beach? The media know photos like that appeal directly to the human heart, and hope that such photos will cause governments to throw out tough border controls, or actually, any border controls (turning the border ‘agents’ into ‘rescuers’).
They also allow charities like the German ‘Sea-Watch’ to keep sending out ships to ‘rescue migrants’. One of their ships -loaded with the ‘rescued’ has tried illegally to dock in Lampedusa, recently.
The US are in a ‘no-win’ situation: pressure will grow to let in ‘migrants’, or else send masses of money to border detention camps, as well as Honduras, El Salvador etc. to ‘create conditions where no one will want to migrate’ – a sort of subtle blackmail…
The Left have found the right buttons to push in the West: engender guilt, then push for admitting responsibility.
Then make with the money. (e.g.Merkel paid Erdogan 6 billion Euro to control the flow along the Balkan route; how long will that last, one wonders…)

Lovely piece here from the ever impartial BBC. Read the article and see if you can tell who the BBC are supporting ?? Here’s a few snippets which may give you clue.

“Liberal firebrand Elizabeth Warren, who has been gaining momentum, took centre stage at the heated forum in Florida”.

“Ms Warren, a Massachusetts senator who has been surging in opinion polls, was one of only two contenders to say she supports replacing private medical insurance with government-run healthcare.

Taking aim at her rivals, Ms Warren drew loud applause as she said: “There are a lot of politicians who say, ‘oh, it’s just not possible’… what they’re really telling you is, they just won’t fight for it.”

“The studio audience also cheered Ms Warren as she delivered an impassioned soundbite on economic populism, looking to cement her surge in the opinion polls.

“Who is this economy really working for?” she said. “It’s doing great for a thinner and thinner slice at the top.”

“Ms Warren, the only top-tier candidate on the stage, concluded: “We need to make structural change in our government, in our economy and in our country.”

BBC, have you considered the terminal threat to the UK car industry from Net Zero? I think you should.

After all, the government in the Irish Republic is planning to outlaw all private car ownership in 2045. That’s only 26 years away. What sort of threat does that pose to the UK car industry? Will soon be here.

basically they are either stupid or deliberately not discussing the strategic fallibility of the car industry in the UK. It is, was and always will be what happens when a country gives away all of its power by not balancing external investment with internal and letting overseas companies buy their industry. When push comes to shove overseas investors will ditch the UK or anywhere else where before they ditch their own. Short sighted Governments of all flavours are the problem…BBC doesn’t want to have an intelligent discussion much easier to blame Brexit

      • Up2snuff says:

JA, yes they are stupid. Yes, they are either deliberately not joining the dots & discussing all policies and their overall implications or perhaps sticking their heads in the sand thinking it will not affect them too badly.

The government of the day (not just the present one) has milked motoring as a Golden Goose for the Treasury rather than tackle more complex problems, such as tax reform. Also it was a convenient way to push the bulk of the taxation burden further down the income scale, prefering the wealthy & high earners (in the mistaken belief of ‘trickle down’ and fake theories such as the Laffer Curve, again all Parties at fault) and then, under the Green excuse, the milking of the motorist has become extreme.

Another problem is that the UK (along with the EU) has a very expensive ‘social support’ model of an economy. You have the evidence there, continually, of contributors coming on the TOADY prog and other BBC N&CA progs asking for more government (ie. taxpayer) money and “for the government to do more.” just like the Uni Dame this morning.

The additional problem is that this motorist milking is not just done as the ‘greenwashing’ of the last 27 years, the Misguided Missile (a.k.a. Theresa) May is signing the UK up to this Net Zero lark. If the UK Government takes the same approach of Ireland and does it via taxation, you can kiss goodbye to the Golden Goose. It is dead, as good as. It is gorn. It is deceased. It is no more. It has flown up the curtains to rev with the heavenly choirs. It has been driven to the Charnel House of Eternity to fill the pillows of angels with its down & feathers for them to weep on.

And the car industry is dead with it.

It will be building only electric taxis and small vans in the foreseeable future.

The prog has at last shown some BBC concern about dear old Mutti. Apparently, Angela Merkel, has been seen shaking again in public ” …. raising concerns about her health.”.

Perhaps it’s a spiritual thing? If I recall correctly, she is the daughter of a Lutheran Pastor. Again IIRC, the Quakers were labelled as such by the rest of the population (whether Christians or not) because their shaking was caused by a sudden impartation of the Holy Spirit. You could say the Quakers were the ‘Pentecostalists’ of their day.

Those of you with good memories, unlike the BBC, may recall ‘The Toronto Blessing’ of the 1990s. Similar phenomenon were seen then. The BBC even reported on it at the time but back then the BBC did proper journalism, so unlike now.

The Government has responded to the petition you signed – “Abolish the BBC television license.”.
    Government responded:

A television licence is required to watch or receive television as it is broadcast live or on BBC iPlayer.
The licence fee is payment for a licence to watch or receive television programmes. It is not a fee or charge for BBC services and is payable regardless of whether the licence holder ever watches the BBC. Licence fee revenue is not just used to fund the BBC, it is also used for other strategic public service objectives including broadband, local television and S4C.
The licence fee funding model was considered as part of Charter Review 2015-16. The BBC Charter Review consultation received over 192,000 responses and found the majority of the public do not want to see a change in the way that the BBC is funded: 60% thought the current licence fee model did not need to be changed, while only 3% of respondents supported a subscription model and 1.5% advertising.
The current system commands wider public support than any alternative model provides the BBC with a sustainable core income paid by all households who watch or receive television. As a result, the government committed to maintain the current licence fee funding model for the duration of the current Charter period.
The Government is therefore committed to ensuring the BBC continues to deliver high quality, distinctive content for all audiences. That is why we have guaranteed the licence fee level will increase with inflation until 2022.
On editorial matters, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent from government and the government cannot intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations. As the BBC’s independent regulator, Ofcom is responsible for ensuring the BBC delivers for audiences – including how the BBC meets its mission and public purposes.

I’m an oldie, and refuse to take responsibility for climate change, so there ! I grew up using paper bags, milk in bottles, eating seasonal food grown in the UK, and having 3 sets of clothes – school uniform, play gear and an outfit for best. Flying was for the rich, so holidayed in this country and getting there on the train.

The tv channels are awash with our ‘carbon footprint’ , fair enough, but can anyone on here tell me how stop eating meat will help the planet. I’ve heard that the amount of gas emitted from animals contributes to global warming. So if we all stop eating meat, then what do we do ? shoot every cow, chicken, pig and sheep ? because there will always be animals regardless of whether we eat them or not, and they will always be burping and farting ! I’m confused.

When the animals are dead the fertility of the fields will diminish. Animals urinate nitrogen compounds made from atmospheric nitrogen that crops need to grow well. It was thought that legumes like peas captured nitrogen that remained in their roots when the crop was taken but it turns out that the peas take most of that nitrogen for themselves.
So either we make artificial fertilisers or we let the cows wee on the grass.

One of the items was some Dame representing Universities in the UK pleading for more immigration to be allowed into the UK and more money from the taxpayer, er … sorry, I mean Government to pay for it all.

One of the later items was a business one. Oxford Uni is full. It has nowhere to house any more students. Rental prices are going through the roof and no doubt floating above the City, endangering those dreaming spires with lots of entanglement.

No-one working on the BBC’s TOADY prog, almost all with Uni degrees, think to join up the dots between the two pieces.

    Doh!

Oxford Uni has done a deal with an insurance company for the building of a massive development to house immigrants, temporary or otherwise, in the City.

    Er ….

…. have they checked whether that will be a Net Zero development?

I hope they are not building on one of those lovely meadows within the City limits. Just think of the flooding from all that sea level rise thanks to AGW, CC, C-E, C-D, etc., etc..

BTP officer ‘Steve’ isn’t sure what’s caused such a jump recently. But he did add that “some people he had arrested who had entered the country from Europe to pickpocket had told him it was a ‘last chance saloon’ because of Brexit.” Funny this comment wasn’t included in either the Huff Post’s or Standard’s report.

It’s almost as if the beeb favour a nice stable influx of pickpockets year on year rather than the spike attributed to leaving the EU. Maybe they like the graph to look prettier.

Reading the headline, one would expect the article to describe Donald Trump being belligerent to someone for no reason, in actual fact, he said Megan Rapinoe should respect the White House, American Flag and her country in response to her saying that she is “not f-ing going to the White Hosue if we win” and to another time when she knelt during the anthem as an act of solidarity, presumably with someone on whose behalf she took it upon herself to be offended about something.

More SJW boxes are ticked in the article with Megan Rapinoe being described as being openly gay and that she is suing the US Soccer Federation alleging the men’s team earns more than the women despite playing fewer games and being less successful.

Dr Phillippa Kay contributed to an item on HPV vaccination and Cervical Cancer.

I detected some bovine emissions, which may be a problem for the planet, not in the AGW/CC/C-E/C-D area although CO2 emissions will be increased by greater manufacturing and by extra travelling if Dr Kay gets her way. The pressure is on to spread this vaccination programme out to both genders in the UK and then worldwide. A nice little earner for the pharmaceutical company or companies making the vaccine.

The UK programme has been running for eleven years and has so far been limited to girls. Dr Kay claimed it had already been a great success. But like the wild claims made for the success of smoking bans in public places, this one also appears to be very premature. You need to trial this over 100 years and then study the results. Why? Increased life expectancy.

Because most cases of cervical cancer only present in mid-life or later life, more than ten per cent present (OK, I cheated, I checked on-line but bovine emissions demand some serious research) after the age of sixty-five years. That means the study really needs to be run for another seventy years at the very least before being further extended to males and then worldwide.

No questions asked by Sarah Montague about side-effects, allergies, etc., etc.. Always read the leaflet that comes with the meds!

My Bovine Emissions detector is being worked hard today. I’m sure its batteries will fail and I will need some mains electricity. Good job it is a cool, windy, day. Keep the turbines turning.

I always thought that the Police had to investigate first and get all the evidence for a successful prosecution in place before the Crown Prosecution Service give the go-ahead for a prosecution. What happens in Court is dependent on the Police doing their job in the first place, not afterward.

Or it could have something to do with the idiotic spineless Tories allowing a Feminazi to head the DPP office, and attempt to change the proceedures in rape trials so that only the word of a woman was needed for a guilty verdict, and many so called rape trials had to be abandoned when it was discovered the so called Police were witholding evidence which proved a male accused as innocent.

Complex in the terms Dick means, is the Police actually having to provide ALL the evidence and NOT just the parts which suit them.

Coincidentally and along the same dark path, I read in the Independent that over 70% of Teachers believe that children to be forced to learn about Islam and Visit mosques as part of their RE “Education” .

They are indignant that some parents are opting their children out of this dangerous farce.

In fact the right of parents to withdraw their children from RE and from collective worship has been in enshrined in law by both the 1944 and 1988 education acts. ” Parents can withdraw their children from some or all of the RE curriculum without giving a reason.”

So what they are in fact saying is, damn the law if WE as teachers think children should be forced to learn about Islam or any other religion then they damn well will, otherwise we will brand their parents as Islamaphobic.

This is indeed a very deeply disturbing push and paints a very dark picture of the direction a lot of our teachers are going.
