Midweek Open Thread 20 March 2019

Happy Equinox  .

The political trial of Tommy Robinson has been put back to May .. So this is how to repress a dissenting individual .

Even the Far Left State Broadcaster is unable to keep Project Fear nonsense up as remainers make Parliament look absurd every day .

In view of all of this I would like to thank you for the restraint in your comments which is a testimony to the quality of our site .

If Article 50 is revoked, could the government let us know which votes will be ignored going forward? Would save a trip to the polling station

Just for information purposes, because people don’t seem to know.

Any country which has triggered article 50 can revoke it, however it can never be triggered again – it is the nuclear option.

When remain are calling for article 50 to be withrawn they are calling for permanent remain in reality.

Kaiser – I remember reading the Lisbon treaty and seeing how limited A50 is . I don’t recall any provision about it only being available once . And the chap who drafted it gave little thought to it and it’s consequences because – hey – who’d ever wanna leave the ReichEU eh?

I think – in theory – you could revoke it one day and exercise it the following day .

Took me ages to find this again, especially wading through loads of corrupt UK media “all you need to know” articles which told half the truth and only what wanted you to know!

          https://openeurope.org.uk/today/blog/what-does-the-ecj-decision-on-article-50-mean/

Fedup 2 you are using the treaty definition, but there was an ECJ ruling after wee Jimmy Crankie decided she didn’t like the treaty definition and wanted to challenge it.

“However, if revocation is to be used appropriately, the UK cannot then resubmit its notice to leave immediately after. In this sense, it would force MPs to make a choice – is the UK ‘in’ or ‘out’, on whatever terms that might mean.”

The BBC are outrageously in violation of its charter by its bias in favour of the EU Today we have the BBC promoting a petition in favour of staying in the EU without giving equal coverage of any alternative pro-Brexit
We need a Public inquiry into the running of the BBC and it accepting millions of Euros from the EU in Loans and grants and using Blairite IFG

The BBC is reporting the story of Jason Wilsher, who has just been convicted of the murder of Arthur Gumbley, a frail 87 old gentleman in the West Midlands. The police described the attack as “horrific and unnecessary”.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-47652090

The local newspaper, The Express and Star also reported the story but it’s report differs from the BBC’s, in that it explains all of the facts.

    https://www.expressandstar.com/news/crime/2019/03/21/arthur-gumbley-jason-wilsher-found-guilty-of-murder/

The main point of the story that the BBC omits is that Wilsher is one of seven sons from a travelling family, whereas The Express and Star does not.

‘Travellers’, like blacks and Muslims are one of the protected groups that the BBC always depicts as noble, worthy of respect and always treated sympathetically in their sycophantic local and national reports. There is little or no coverage of the violent burglaries committed by travellers except when the intended victims fight back and a traveller dies. Think back to the two travellers who were killed by their intended victims, Tony Martin shot Fred Barras, or when Henry Vincent was killed by Richard Osborn-Brooks.

Perhaps Panorama could do a report on the violent traveller gangs of burglars that are targeting mainly vulnerable pensioners across the UK but somehow I don’t think that is going to happen.

BBC are bigging up the petition to cancel Art. 50…the story prominently placed under the main headline and of course it was all over the radio today. We had one of the people who organised it on 5Live telling us that she had been ignored for too long and now her voice had to be heard.

I’m guessing she doesn’t actually follow the news then as a Parliament and Lords packed full of Remainers have been working assiduously on her behalf to stop Brexit along with a vast array of powerful media organisations and Big Business, Academia and the usual pundits giving vocal support.

I guess we don’t need a second referendum to decide this…just cobble together some fanciful utopian dream and get a lot of deluded Remainers to ‘sign’ it….along with all those fraudulent signatures Guido says have been padding out the petition.

Wonder what Matthew Parris thinks of it, the man who dismissed the Leave voters as an uneducated mob who should be ignored? As he said…‘Why I don’t, never have, and never will trust the people….Sod democracy…We are wary of the populace and instinctively hostile to the instincts of the mob. We see the popular will as a sometimes dangerous thing, to be handled, guided, and on key occasions (and subtly) thwarted.’

Parris is wrong, the ‘mob’ didn’t vote, 17.4 million individuals voted in private. The ‘mob’ is when people feed off each other in a crowd, either in the street or of Facebook/Twitter. When a lot of people act as individuals the averaged-out opinion is most likely to be correct.

In a recent cinema release, Lord Thomas Randolph, English Ambassador to the court of Mary Queen of Scots, is correctly depicted as being black. But for some sinister reason all the other main characters of that era – John Knox, Elizabeth I, even Mary Queen of Scots herself – are played by white actors. Call me a conspiracy theorist if you like but I believe that white supremacists are trying to rewrite our history.

Cambridge turns away alt-right darling Jordan Peterson

I’m having trouble thinking of the lean, tough, no-nonsense Peterson as a “darling,” and there is also nothing “alt-right” about him. In fact, he has stated specifically that he does not belong to the right.

The article itself is not too bad, though there’s also a mention within it of the same idiocy as the headline.

Probably have to subscribe to read it so here’s an extract:

Jordan Peterson, a psychology professor with controversial views on gender, race and political correctness, was offered a visiting fellowship by Cambridge only for it to be withdrawn within 48 hours.

    I like Peterson’s response:

I think that it is deeply unfortunate that Cambridge decided that kowtowing to an ill-informed, ignorant and ideologically-addled mob trumped participating in mass Christian and psychological education.

They used to say that ‘knowledge is power’ but now it seems to be
‘Words are power’ . You say a word which someone considers to be ‘wrong’ or ‘hate ‘ and you ll get a visit from the constabulary and or an invitation for an ‘interview’ .

Example ‘paki’ . I grew up with ‘paki’ as a description – as offensive as ‘brit’ but now ‘paki’ is an offence . As you say The Left has control over what can and can’t be said – with the state broadcaster as its mouthpiece .

Earlier today as I was pondering this I looked up the various definitions of fascism -some of which do not have ‘right wing’ within them . The term is used so freely but I think the users do not know the meaning . – similarly to the amorphous meaning of ‘Far Right ‘ which for many might actually translate into ‘love of country ‘ ….

Not BBC but did anyone see Peston last night?

I switched over to it and realised I had just missed an interview with Farage. Peston was asking Lisa Nandy about something and she immediately parried the question (I don’t want to answer that but I want to say this) and launched into a tirade along the lines of what Farage had just said was “disgusting, islamaphobic and racist”. The bloke sitting next to her (an anti Brexit bed wetting conservative party nonentity named Phillip Lee) proceded to do the same thing but in even more derogatory terms.

I was curious as to what had been said and, as I had only just switched over, I couldn’t rewind to the interview with Farage. Curiosity led to a sudden brainwave and I decided to switch to ITV+1 and wait for the interview in question.

Turns out that during the interview in question, Peston quizzed Farage about the lady who’d just resigned from the Brexit Party due to some “islamaphobic” re-tweets. Farage made it abundantly clear that, in his opinion, the re-tweets were inappropriate, that he doubted that the lady in question was racist as she was part of a mixed race marriage and that he and her had agreed that the re-tweets in question were inappropriate and it was best that she resign. Peston pressed him and asked him whether he thought that islamaphobia was acceptable and Farage stated that he thought that violence of any kind was unacceptable. Nothing remotely racist or islamaphobic about one syllable of what he (a man, let’s not forget, who left UKIP because he thinks it is too anti islam) said.

I rewound and watched the whole interview back twice more and, for the life of me, I can’t see what was racist/islamaphobic or even unpleasant about any of it.

Farage ‘is’ a racist, xenophobic, ignorant bigot, ergo anything he says or does is racist, xenophobic, ignorant and bigoted by definition.

That’s how intersectional identity politics works. It saves a lot of work because one doesn’t have to waste any time listening to those of the wrong faction. And one gets bonus points for saying that is what one has done! [Actually it is worse than that, if one doesn’t quickly telegraph that one is with the with the mob one becomes labelled a racist, xenophobic, ignorant bigot too. I guess Mathew Parris is OK with that.]

Nandy would have branded him “disgusting, Islamaphobic and racist”, even if he had said nothing and sat there smiling. She had a script that had to be delivered. Phillip Lee joined in the feeding frenzy.

It is clear the EU are now getting twitchy as our big Parliamentary impass has effectively put them on the spot. They definately do not want a No Deal (£39bn walks) as well as the UK taking part in the EU elections; it would be carnage, a bit like Mogwai’s that get wet, 100s of Farages everywhere. This could get interesting if Mays deal is rightly voted down again next week!

I would have thought that as the new art50 petition is approximately 3.25 times more popular that the no deal one, the figure from my constituency, Coventry north east would look a little different? When I checked earlier, no deal was around 500 and art50 was about 880, maybe not as many people here saw the helpful broadcast from the BBC?

At this point the board usually offer their support. Then both she and her Govt. will be gone.

Not really listening to R4 1pm news with Sarah Montague but a couple of things made my ears twitch. She appeared delighted with the numbers signing the petition to withdraw Article 50, leaving any listener who didn’t know better to assume that the numbers were genuine.

She also spoke to the author (I think?) of ‘The Great Replacement’, which is supposed to have inspired the NZ shooter, and someone else to counter his arguments. What struck me was the way she was incredulous that anyone could think there was anything resembling replacement going on anywhere in European countries.

Isn’t she a highly paid presenter who is supposed do enough work to, at least, not appear stupid on the program?
