Sourbry has left the Tories for the new party. My guess is that this party will be the BBC’s new favourites. Blairites and Remainers and at least someone to complain about Brexit.

Corbyn’s side of Labour have now collapsed which might disappoint the BBC but lets see how long before they latch onto the new group and let us know how great these guys are and how we must all vote for them!

Nothing on the BBC on Liam Fox managing to work on a deal with the big bad Americans though…

His Japan item didn’t do much for my blood pressure!

Apparently the Japanese love us but can’t understand why we want to leave the EU! Maybe so we can form a closer relationship with Japan?

One reason Honda are shutting up shop, we are told, is because the EU has negotiated tariff arrangements that means it is easier for Japan to export to the EU directly. Perhaps that is against our interests? Ah, but as we are no longer a member of the EU, (since when?), we were unable to influence the negotiations! (If Japan was such a friend of the UK wouldn’t they have looked after us?)

As we all know the EU bangs out a trade deal in a week flat, or more likely ten years and only then if there is a tail wind.

The whole item was just a fake anti-Brexit construction with no basis on reality at all. Will no-one hold the BBC to account?

      • Beltane says:

Oddly enough there’s one fairly significant point about the Japan/EU tariff arrangements that has had very little mention so far – they are due to apply in about 7 years from now.
Just about the same time they’ll be sweeping up the last remains of the EU then.

Just wondering what people think of Soubry and a couple of lesser knowns leaving the Tories.

I know a few people are put off by some of the remainers in the party and I wonder if Sourby leaving and maybe taking some of the trouble makers with her might have a better outcome for the party?

The Tories are actually leading in the polls thanks to Labour’s demise and one recent poll including the new party has not hit them like it has hit Labour. Today the Tories are eight points ahead in a Yougov poll, their highest rating since the GE while the last time anyone got 8 points was Labour during Corbyn’s silly ‘surge’ and that poll was also conducted by Yougov. The left wingers hate Yougov seeing it as ‘biased’ and cling to Survation polls yet Survation have now given the Tories a lead while last year they once gave Labour a 7 point lead.

What is everyone’s view on this?

I have spoken to a few people, some Brexiteers and other casual remainers who are staying loyal to the Tories but the Brexiteers I know have worried about the Tories being too neutral on Brexit and disliked Sourbry’s ‘Lib Dem’ behaviour. The remainers I know respect the result of the referendum and hope that Britain does well.

I also have a good MP, Connor Burns of Bournemouth West who never seems to cause any trouble and is respected in my area. He has also voted against the past two deals in the HoC and seems to take things seriously so I will continue to give him my vote.

Perhaps if Sourbry is gone it could help keep the Tories a seat if they replace her by someone who voted leave in a leave voting area. Her seat has always been at risk of being snatched by Labour!

I care less as the primary aim is to get out of the ReichEU , deal with any disruption and then move on to trying to get the Conservative Party or similar Right Wing outfit delivering smaller cheaper government – such as eliminating tax subsidised broadcasting , ending overseas aid as a GDP policy and concentrating the NHS on basic stuff such as elderly care and sticking to health support and not ‘ lifestyle ‘ nonsense .

The gang of 11 or whatever would have voted remain any way so no loss and no effect .

Anyone who stood on brexit manifestos and voted for the sell out next time should be deselected . In any party .

Fair reply. I think that after we have left the EU the focus should be on having a look at a few other areas as you mentioned. A certain broadcaster should certainly no longer receive it’s tax subsidies and perhaps removing that embarrassment would help towards a vote win!

In other words Mogg could win an election on that alone lol

Weren’t all those new women MPs going to bring in a gentler form of politics? Contrast Soubry with the ever polite JRM, whom she loathes!

There is something deeply wrong with our politics and media when the two main parties stand on Brexit tickets yet so many of our MPs and media outlets have continued to fight against it and those that do push for Brexit are described as ‘extremists’.

Fair play for your obvious loyalty to the Conservatives.

Alas, apart from a very small minority of MPs who’d be better off in the fringe parties (aka actually conservative) I suspect many posters on here find it hard to distinguish them from Labour,Lib Dem or the loony Greens.

Go by their deeds, not their words. The results are damning. Ever more leftwards, ever more in thrall to big global corporations, and some might say ever eager to sell us all out to an alien and backward religion.

There’s nothing ‘conservative’ about them any more, and if they get a serious bloody nose at the next general election it’s of their own making.

I note in the Telegraph today that there has been a large increase in the number of non EU workers in the UK. This is very worrying and makes me uneasy about Brexit. To my mind if we need to have foreign workers, I would rather have Europeans than non Europeans , leaving aside our cousins in the North America and the Antipodes who surely don’t see much worth coming here for. All leading Brexiteers seem to say they would be happy to take third worlders into our workforce. Well I wouldn’t be. It does make me wonder about Brexit .

I caught the start of the Jeremy Vine Show, expecting the Labour split to dominate the show. But the only mention was about three Tories joining the group, no mention of Labour.

But the main story was the BBC’s strange narrative about Britain’s long time friendship with Japan coming to an end. The BBC thinks Britain’s friendship with Japan started after the second world war, presumably because Japan was very happy to surrender to Britain after being nuked. No mention about Japans much longer friendship with Germany and why the Japanese could never understand why Britain opposed Germanys attempts to unite Europe and Japans attempts to unite Asia in the Second World War?

I suppose the morons at the BBC think the British prisoners of war rescued from Japanese camps have now died, so these veterans can be ignored. Or maybe Jeremy Vine’s people are ignorant of history, as well as everything else?

Climate change warning. Harrabin take note

The Arctic ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulafft, at Bergen, Norway.

Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.

Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.

I apologize, I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922. As reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post — 88 years ago!

ps I checked and it is a genuine article published at the time.

Thoughtful – our good chum here, posted something I’d never thought about before, way back this morning…

“Why do you think that not a single Prime Minister since Major has taken up their entitlement to a peerage? It’s because if they did they would have to disclose their source of income, and they don’t want us knowing!”

Having been absent from these pages for a day or so, as life goes on in another universe…, I’ve been pondering the BBC’s take on all those blokes who have left the ‘labour’ party and the ‘conservative’ party and what they have actually achieved?

I have to accept that the sort of politics most of the HoC piddle around with are really knob-end stupid, but to have to consider a group of – what ten-eleven ‘members’ sticking their noses in things they don’t understand is one thing, but getting near enough £100,000 a year in wages, pensions and perks is another. Looking at the sorry bunch, I cannot believe any of them (except Youmunny, who has a private income), being worth even a minute of interview time for a real job.

What a sad lot they all are! Yeah, form a ‘breakaway’, but while we still fund them to the tune of £2,000 a week, they can be as ridiculous as they want.

I’m glad bulldog-piss-nettle soubry has at least buqqered off, as she is just an idiot, and I haven’t ever known who the others are, except Youmunny, who has a private income of course!
