Midweek Open Thread 6 February 2019

The public consultation on ending free TV licences for over 75s concludes on 12 February . I have put the link here ;

https://bbcconsultation.traverse.org.uk/

now I know ‘ many’ think consultations are a waste of time because the high and mighty will do what they want any way – but anything which undermines the biased far left  state broadcaster could be worth it.

I see this weeks question time panel is 4:1
It’s certainly balanced with the previous 2 qt’s
In Fiona Bruce’s 3 shows its 12 remainers to 3 leavers so far.
Consistent is probably the best way to describe the ‘selected’ panels.

Women’s Hour accidentally stumbles upon an existential paradox at the heart of the progressive worldview. For when diversity is not enough, we now have the problem of ‘onlyness’: “how it feels to be the only person with a certain characteristic, perspective or life experience in a group – usually in a work setting.”

The beeb want us to feel how awful this is, but what’s the solution? Increased variability is an outcome of a group that moves from homogeneity to heterogeneity. Whatever your ideals, this is a natural function, so a diverse society shows — as an empirical consequence — a wider range of characteristics and experiences that don’t match your own.

It’s opened up an basic rip in the progressive’s spacetime continuum… the more variables, the less likelihood you’ll find them all reflected in a sample of the general population.

But instead of spotting this paradox we get a whinge about the use of ‘tick box’ recruitment and a predictable call for a truly ‘inclusive culture’. If I don’t find common ground with the experiences of a black bisexual mother, I’m contributing to ’onlyness’. Onlyness can be remedied by adding people with similar life experiences, thus leading to … er … more homogeneous groups. And homogeneity is the beeb’s bogeyman; it’s the multifariousness of life that’s supposed to culturally enrich us all.

As so often with these things, it’s ill-thought out, and a logical and existential mess. It’s the kind of absurdity you get when identity politics is turned up to 11, all readily slopped up on your plate by the £5bn BBC.

TM, that end state – “when diversity is not enough, we now have the problem of ‘onlyness’ ” – is an inevitable consequence of a liberal trajectory of accommodating anything and everything except fidelity and integrity.

Yes, even when the suicide rate for young people climbs no real, no genuine searching questions are asked. I cannot get over the death of that young lass Mollie. A lovely looking young woman. She should have had lots of friends. Been happy with her looks. What agonies was she carrying? Were they down to this liberal morass of lax and hypocritical and double standards?

The BBC are happy to instantly lay the blame at the feet of the new media companies, conveniently overlooking the vile sludge that they dredge from the Broadcasting House bilges – almost constantly now – and spray over the airwaves. Their promotion this morning of euthanasia being a timely example.

      Imagine how terrible onlyness is…

Imagine being the only one-legged hetronormative podium dancer in a gay nightclub…

I am well versed in identity politics…

The clear solution is to chop the legs off half of the gay-staff because one -leggidnes is less common than being gay…

… and take the fellows wooden leg and roger him with it until his hetronormative tendencies disappear…

Because as all people with Brain-washed, Brain-dead Condition (BBC) know, hetronormative = evil!!!.

    Toady Watch

The people who run Toady have truly lost the plot . They sent out Justin to Portmounth Unniversity ( why) on a working day .

Maybe they just want to reduce listening figures even further . I did learn something though -universities accept students with non A levels at all .

Wow how dumbed down have educational standards become – but the BBC is naturally not interested in that.

    News to cheer us up

Radio four has lost 750000 listeners in a year .

Can you imagine all those well paid BBC managers sitting around trying to figure out “why? ‘ when all they need do is read through these threads ……

I’ve turned my radio off today – I’d rather listen to the howling wind than Toady.

I’m one of Radio 4’s “lost listeners”. I used to wake up to it. I would to measure my day by what was on Radio 4.
It was an integral part of my life. But no more.
Their grossly unfair coverage and unhealthy obsession with Donald Trump, their endless bias regards Brexit and their liberal smugness has driven me away.
Classic FM from now on. It’s far from perfect. Some of the announcers are a bit of a pain and the commercial breaks go on for yonks, but I no longer find myself growling Anglo Saxon expletives first thing in the morning.
Much better for the old boy’s blood pressure!

      • Old Goat says:

Yes, I too gave up the BBC years ago.

At the moment I suffer Classic FM, with it’s biased, silly “news” where there is more “advice” about how we should live, from universities, and opinion than real news. The ads are a pain in the bum. Many of the presenters, particularly the male, morning ones, have turned it from a Classical radio station into a version of CBBC, with their inanities and patronising wittering.

The only reasonable alternative, is Swiss Classical radio.

Yep, me too. Kitchen radio now permanently tuned to Classic FM and I often miss the top of the hour news. The car radio with push button tuning is also usually on Classic. But as I am driving I sometimes think I would like voices. Yesterday Jenny Murray was talking to I think an author who had written in detail about her sexual experiences. Well I lasted about 20 seconds before I returned to soothing music. I used to like Ken Bruce on Radio 2 but either I am getting old or I no longer like the noise, but it just doesn’t do it for me anymore.

“the challenge facing the corporation’s speech radio stations from commercial rivals”
Nothing to do with the sh..te they pump out now….how have the commercial stations got an edge? Well supposedly they pay more for people? What a load of bull crap
It can’t be a coincidence that the head of R4 left recently with this as statement
“My goal has been to keep the station intelligent and to build audiences by smartening up not dumbing down, making sure Radio 4 is the place to come for greater understanding, particularly in these turbulent times”
Well I think she failed.. audiences down, dumbed to buggery

I don’t think there were any comments allowed – touchy subject for kinfolk . Whenever the G allows comments on the BBC it tends to be lefties complaining of right bias . God knows where they get that from – unless it’s a clever smokescreen in that soviet kind of way .

I think the comment by the outgoing R4 type was an ‘in house’ joke . I mean – look at it . Dull dumb drama Wimmins hour stuck in time . Toady just a diminished joke now – radio comedy with no jokes (with one honerable exception (clue)) . Tick box book reading – over representation of non white , Muslims and queers ,joke ‘political programmes – Westminster hour , week in Westminster , the dire Sunday thing .

Listing that lot – no wonder listening numbers drop through the floor . It was my ‘go to’ station as a kid ( political geek ) . Now I don’t even look at what is on….

For anyone looking for comedy – try the repeats of Radioactive ‘ on r4x.

I have also purchased two relatively expensive items from the US, both of which are not available in the UK or, importantly, elsewhere.
Costs of transport and VAT added to US products must be killing the US market. Just a further example of the EU working multinationally with the Globalists to strangle US business.

No concern as the content was not perishable. Only days later browsing through the atlas, I suddenly noticed that every and all reference to Israel had been redacted by black marker pen. On the actual maps, in the index, everything. When in that bookstore some while later, I checked others on the shelf. All the same. Some official had the responsibility for opening every sealed package and defacing the Atlas.

When a Polish man is killed the BBC made a special programme, before the real facts were known, their very own little kangaroo court, and declared that this was a murder driven by hate and racism in Brexit Britain, this, we were told, was what Britain had now become due to Brexit. Of course we now know it was the Pole who had made racist comments and attacked the youth….the complete opposite of what the BBC told us. The BBC hasn’t apologised for or admitted their sensationalising of a massive lie.

Curious then, in contrast, how they treat crime known from the off to be by immigrants…..radio silence. Why is every rape or murder not prefaced with an exclamation that ‘This is mass immigration Britain!’….’Every pro-open borders BBC campaigner has blood on their hands!’?

Today a Pole has been arrested on the suspicion that he abducted a girl…The Mail headline…..

‘Police search married Polish butcher and martial arts fan’s house after man, 24, is arrested on suspicion of abducting missing student Libby Squire and officers stop people going near pond close to her home’

    The BBC headline….

‘Libby Squire: Abduction arrest over missing University of Hull student’

No mention at all of his nationality in the report.

In this case nothing is certain yet but in so many, many other similar cases why does the BBC not suggest these girls would almost certainly still be alive or unraped had it not been for the open borders policy. You can guarantee had it been Brits attacking immigrants the BBC would have a narrative about that and not just be reporting it straight….or as straight as they can manage as they omit relevant parts of the story.

It is enlightening and informative to see what the BBC chooses to report and the way it then does so.

In the previous comment I noted how they hype and fabricate anti-Brexit stories and downplay and hide negative stories about immigrants.

R4 treated us today to the next chapter in its anti-Brexit ‘fact-finding’ programme ‘Brexit: A guide for the perplexed’. The justification for this programme is that it informs us about an important event in our history…but of course that’s just untrue….it’s too late, we’ve already voted, however the BBC has other ideas on that. The real reason for such programmes, and there are many on the BBC, is that it is more ‘project fear’…this is the BBC hoping for another referendum and in that expectation they keep on pumping out and ramping up the scare-mongering stories meant to influence us in any subsequent vote or at the very least soften us up to accept a ‘Remain’ Brexit…in other words a deal that keeps us in the EU…just on terrible terms for us, the worst possible outcome…a zombie deal.

Today’s effort was about security and how we would be swamped by criminals from the EU…lol….the BBC is usually unwilling to report there are such creatures, they just don’t exist.

Funny isn’t it that the BBC doesn’t want to talk about the massive crime wave that has landed here on our doorstep #duetofreedomofmovement and which has come here despite all those security arrangements that we already have in place with the EU but the BBC does want to talk about the phantom menace of a future crime wave flooding our country #duetobrexit.

What about the crime wave that is already here? What about the Albanian drug gangs, the Romanian pickpockets and credit card scammers, the East Europeans who murder and rape…what of the ‘county line’ drug gangs run so often by immigrants that ensnare the young, what of the Somali, Vietnamese and Afghan drug gangs? The prisons are full of EU citizens and other immigrants. Did all those EU data bases stop them coming here? No.

On a day when the BBC is reporting that knife crime is at the highest rate ever recorded it refuses to make the link….immigrant drug gangs, knives and murder. It talks the talk on crime but really isn’t interested, it is only interested in exploiting it to make a political point….about race or Brexit. It cares not that these youths get murdered and the real reason why…..if they did they would be asking about open borders and how that effects security and safety on our streets. But then so many at the BBC themselves partake of the drugs sold by these gangs. John Sweeney might be suggesting there was ‘blood on their hands’ if he had a real conscience.

The BBC’s Chris Morris finished his report by asking a British copper ‘Do they[EUers] think we have taken leave of our senses with Brexit?’

    No bias there then.

Interesting idea that more criminals would come to Britain because of brexit . They’ll be disappointed because the third worlds rubbish are already here and busily experiencing prison life .

One might assume that plans are on standby to record the real identity of anyone trying to come into Blighty as well as leave . However making assumptions about the desire of the civil service to prepare for a real brexit strains reality some what …

    The anti-semitic Guardian……

‘Fightback against the billionaires: the radicals taking on the global elite ‘

Funny how when critics of Soros, his business practices and his attempts to interfere in the national politics of countries that he is not a citizen of using his billions to buy power and influence to subvert and undermine democracy the BBC plays the anti-Semitism card claiming Soros is only targeted because he is Jewish and that terms like global elite and international financier are code for ‘Jew’.

Of course the BBC only defends Soros now because he is trying to buy Brexit with his billions and because he opposes the democratically elected government of Hungary…the one the BBC hates so much. In any other world the lefty, Occupy supporting, ‘Capitalism is broken’ BBC would be denouncing the likes of Soros and his exploitation of the system and the grifting of the poorest to fill his own pockets….the man who invented the hedge fund and has led the capitalist assault on the world via financial trickery and profiteering.

Instead the BBC cheers him on as a philanthropist, others suggest he is an ‘economic war criminal’…the last may be nearer the truth as he destroys economies, takes the profits and then uses them to try and buy the political systems of those countries and mould them to suit himself.

    Is that philanthropy or piracy?

Sorry to squeeze this one in here but you have to laugh at the absurdity of it.

Earlier in this thread Keith, Stew and G were discussing the problems that some guide-dog owners are having with access to taxis as so many drivers from a particular faith refuse to allow dogs in their cabs. The bBBC did a piece on this but didn’t mention Islam, stressing that exemption certificates are being sought by the taxi drivers on the grounds of their fear of or an allergy to dogs. Nonsense, you would have to be both blind and stupid not to see it’s an issue based entirely on religious intolerance.

    Well, so is this.

“Reacting to Ofcom’s ruling, Mr Patel said he was left “disgusted” by the comments.
He said: “I feel disgusted that a broadcaster who is being paid to sit on the radio feels it appropriate in this day and age to question the intellectuality of not just me but blind people in general, and to think that we don’t have the capacity to know the difference between an animal or something like that.
“It’s disheartening and upsetting for me to know this attitude still exists.
“And especially by someone who has access to a platform to share that view to other people, who might then think it’s acceptable to think like him.”
LBC declined to comment on the ruling.”

Mr. Patel is described as ‘partially sighted’, so he is clearly able to know a horse’s ass when looking in the mirror. So going the ‘intelllectuality’ route is a punt. And brave. Though if he thinks folk sit on radios he needs assistance.

Love the ‘LBC declined to comment’ when all W1A hits the bunker if they are called on to explain their platforms being used for flag waving.

Amy Rutland will be impressed by the dual use of ‘dizgoosted’.

I certainly don’t generally support crowd funding but did this one as the sooner the (illegal according to Trimble) backstop is removed the sooner we can escape from Egypt/EU.

      Peter, I’m torn.

So strong has been the previously sporadic and more recently ‘orchestrated’ Remain campaign (aided and abetted by the BBC) against a No-Deal departure on 29 March, that I feel that it must be the best possible option for the whole UK in order to get a complete break from the EU. I recognise that there might be some anxious waiting though in the Northern Ireland community that the disgraceful call to (terrorism) arms by John Major and Tony Blair, followed by that of others, might result in actual criminality after 29 March.

However, I have great respect for Lord Trimble and his co-Plaintiffs and their ‘boots on the ground’ knowledge and experience. Am very sympathetic!

No more trounle with piles either! Arguments with your Mother in Law will be resolved in an instant! McDonnel Tincture also good for warts…

And for afters, we can listen to Nick Robinson’s latest attempt to get at Trump. After two years of smears, this one finally sounds a winner. Nick was so excited , he nearly lost his voice.
Then again, it could just be another loser. Like the other 527 events/people discovered, that we’re gonna sink Trump for sure. Losers all. Just saying.

Amazon boss Jeff Bezos accuses National Enquirer of blackmail

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest man, announced last month that he and wife MacKenzie were getting divorced. This happened shortly before the National Enquirer carried reports about an extramarital affair involving Mr Bezos. Now the tech entrepreneur has accused the magazine of trying to blackmail him over “intimate photos” of him and his lover, former TV host Lauren Sanchez. The Enquirer’s parent company, American Media Inc, has not yet responded to the BBC’s request for comment. The BBC looks at Mr Bezos’s extraordinary business career.

Thai princess to run for PM

Thailand’s royal family traditionally stays out of politics. But the eldest sister of King Maha Vajiralongkorn has announced she’s breaking this convention. Princess Ubolratana Mahido is running for prime minister in next month’s election. She’s standing for a party loyal to ousted PM Thaksin Shinawatra. BBC South East Asia correspondent Jonathan Head writes that this “completely upends” Thai politics, as, being a royal, “in reality, she cannot be opposed”.
