The interviewer at Cambridge Analytica seemed unable (unwilling?) to understand the difference between transferring experience from one job and stealing material. The advertising business has always tried to ‘target’ potential customers and political parties do the same. Look at the BBC’s website and listen/look again ‘offerings’ they use ‘cookies’ and ‘personalisation’ to better target their ‘cusomers’. Obama was hailed for using ‘social media’, this current fuss is just sour grapes that the ‘wrong’ sort of people are voting the ‘wrong’ way.
The ‘establishment’ hasn’t been listening to the people for 50+ years and the people’s ‘voice’ has been historically limited to ‘letters to the editor’ (easily binned) or the guy in the pub, back of the cab or the barber. Talking about omission. I have Googled information from the email and most of it can be found on the internet. I also remember Maxincony talking about an amateur journalist in the Salisbury area who collected all the information that appeared in the Media over the months. What it reveals is that professional journalists have removed information from the internet that has been subject to D-Notices and or Super injunctions. But this amateur journalist who Maxincony somehow knew was a Piano tuner in real life, had saved information that then remained the only source left available that came up when I Googled the full address of Sergei Skripal.
It shows that Maxincony can be inadvertently helpful to us, sometimes.

Just watched Ed Balls (thru slitted fingers) on BBC2 in Trump country. God, the bloke is no Alan Wicker, but the Beeb are clearly trying to keep him in work. Even Michael Portillo is infinitely more watchable. As for the programme, it was the usual attempted hatchet job on Trump, so no surprises there.

Any employer ‘worth their salt’ would allow a sick employee or one needing some help, time off during the working day for a GP appointment. Large employers might even employ a nurse for basic care & emergencies in situ, if say, everyone is in one large building as in many cases in central London.
Speaking of which, I notice on my return visits that GP Practices and Dentists have returned to the City of London and its immediate environs. They existed there in the 1950s and 1960s but almost totally disappeared in the 1970s, 80s, 90s and 00s. Now they are on a comeback.
This is not only FakeNews/FalseNews from the BBC (I can tell without reading the item) it demonstrates a stupidity and lack of thinking by the people at the BBC who put it up.

Greenslade most likely talking about subsidising local newspapers where so many journalists have lost their jobs. These are the reporters who spend their time covering all those apparently dull council meetings, court hearings, tribunals etc. that enable the rest of us to find out what’s going on and hold authorities to account. Is there any chance of a BBC program about Halal*, not just meat but the whole certification thing. I want to avoid the lot on the grounds of principle.
Recently, I was talking to someone about Warburton’s and Kingsmill bread both having halal certification and how I would never buy those. Then I wondered about supermarket own bread. Who makes it for the supermarkets? Even small independent bakers might use halal certified flour. I have tried to find lists online but without much success.

Vlad, it is surprising how little I miss TV in the Internet age.
The only thing I really miss is golf.
If I still watched TV, come Olympics time, then I would watch some badminton and table tennis. Perhaps some important footie games and tennis, also. Motor racing (F1) has gone off, so I don’t miss that at all.
Visual arts and retro stuff around music, etc., is the other thing but that’s all available via the Internet as well.
One of the things that made me give up TV was the advent of Big Brother on C4. I could see where that would lead and sure enough, less than two decades later, lo and behold – Love Island.
I added up how much TV I watched back in the early 2000s. To be fair, some decent programme series were still going, eg ER, Frasier, West Wing, and it was still possible to see regular good movies. The total came out at around twenty hours per week including news/current affairs/politics plus ‘arts’ programmes.
Not only have I saved £150 per year, I have an extra day per week, nearly, in my life most of which I waste on here.
Doh!
But I do recommend giving up TV and the Licence Fee.

These patients are not brain dead, which is an objective state to diagnose if done correctly. They still retain a functioning brainstem, with damage affecting the higher regions of the brain.
The victims in the case are patients in a Persistent Vegetative State, described as ‘awake but unaware, with ability to consume food and liquids, retain body temperature, respond to painful stimuli, having sleep-wake cycles. Unlike brain death there can be a spectrum with some states more or less severe than others. Research has been going on into improving their condition and there have been claims of limited success. You can bet this will stop. Adding to the lack of clarity is the proposal to include ‘minimally conscious states’, whatever they are.
The BBC tells us that there are 24,000 PVS patients and getting rid of these ‘useless eaters’ (Hitler’s expression) is simple – dehydrate and starve them to death
There are strong ethical objections which ought to be aired, but watch the BBC dismiss them as religious beliefs.

I know that life can be treated as cheap when people want that . Killing babies is routine and now at the other end of life – killing by neglect will be the same .
Once that is settled others who unproductive to the state – or don’t comply with the requirements of the state can go on the list .
I’ll have a look at the judgement and wonder if there were any dissenters but I’m guessing not.
Ironic that the judges making this decision will be wealthy enough to have their own medical support when needed as opposed to some old person who the medics notice has no visitors or no next of kin when they become a nuisance in hospital….

I’ve been on to the BBC regarding brain death, and criteria for harvesting organs post mortem since their 1980 Panorama programme which told blatent lies about people being alive when their organs were removed, and being diagnosed as brain dead in an ambulance. It was probably the worst BBC medical programme ever, and damage to the transplant programme was immense. It partly explains why I am here and why I watch the lying bastards like a hawk.

Very good points, FedUp2. What on Earth happens to isolated, frail, elderly or indeed any age patients who fall into this category, people with no family or friends nearby ? It is a terrifying prospect. So we had Liverpool Pathway, in which hospitals were rewarded for “hitting” targets, which effectively meant they were rewarded for killing elderly patients who were not necessarily near the end of their lives. Famous case of a fit, health lively and active 83 year old lady who went in to hospital about 5 or 6 years ago with a urinary tract infection, nothing too serious. She was put on Liverpool Pathway and died. That , to me is murder. Then we had the 1200 or more deaths by negligence at Mid-Staffs hospital, the estimated 650 who were killed off by Dr Jane Barton and co at Gosport (have read the report online) and several other major NHS scandals. I reckon this new ruling should only be applied where the patient has no prospect of recovery, no quality of life, no sensory perception, etc and where ALL family and Doctors are in agreement. Makes me scared to be in hospital alone in the event of a bad accident.

Last 5 minutes of Today was the usual BBC ‘1984’ take on ‘fake news’ with two like-minded commentators who were fully on-board with the narrative…the author of ‘Post-truth’ couldn’t help himself but mention Trump with every breath. No-one there to bring a bit of sanity to the discussion. Naturally the DCMS report and the Electoral Commission got name-checked for their brilliant work in defending democracy from the monsters of Silicon Valley, Nigel Farage’s alt-right army of trolls and those who only want a ‘hyper-partisan’ world.
So who is defending Democracy? Not the BBC of course, anything but.
In fact none of these groups, the DCMS, the Electoral Commission, the BBC and various politicians, were defending Democracy, the truth is they were doing their best to undermine and destroy it, rigging the system so that their, and only their, world view dominated the narrative.
The DCMS report was entirely corrupt, a more ‘hyper-partisan’ piece of dissembling you couldn’t really get. So one-sided you had to lean so far to the left to read it you fell off your chair. It was written purely from a pro-Remain, anti-Leave perspective, its targets were the Leave campaigns, Facebook, Trump and Russia….absolutely nothing about Remain’s barrage of lies which continue to this day, nothing about Remain’s financing, advertising or use of social media, nothing of course, about the BBC’s misuse of its resources and abuse of its dominant position to push a pro-EU message.

Then we have the real fake news, the all too real events that are having such a devastating effect upon our Democracy as they shatter trust in politicians and the System, thus confirming, ironically, the reasons behind Trump and Brexit as our very own Prime Minister orchestrates a massive fraud upon, not just those who voted for Leave, but even those who voted Remain, as they are betrayed by a political class and supposedly social elite who seek to stop Brexit in its tracks and, if they can’t stop it completely, are willing to sabotage it so completely that it totally undermines Britain’s negotiating position and power and puts us at the mercy of the EU who will impose far worse conditions upon whatever subservient membership May and Co sees fit to serve up as a ‘good deal’. May has lied continually throughout the last two years and as you see her government scurrying around desperately pushing the message that a ‘no deal’ would be a disaster for Britain, the hope being we just fold and accept her plan, her white flag, her bad deal, you know she was blatantly lying when she grandstanded loudly with the message that ‘No deal was better than a bad deal’.
The politicians have lied to the voters, betrayed them and sold them out to a foreign power. They have worked assiduously to undermine and thwart one of the biggest democratic votes this country has had and have done enormous damage to Britain’s national interests.
Odd how the DCMS, the Electoral Commission and the BBC are totally uninterested in that very real side to the story…they prefer to blatantly hunt down Leave figures such as Dominic Cummings or Boris or Aaron Banks in orchestrated attacks going so far as to create a totally false crisis about Cambridge Analytica which had nothing to do with Brexit but was clearly useful to the Guardian and the BBC in order to kick-start a storm of controversy about supposed dirty tricks by the Leave side and social media…completely ignoring the Remain campaign and its massive fabrication of Project Fear which continues to this day as we are warned that the Army is on stand-by for a ‘no-deal Brexit’. Remain politicians and those who want to control social media and censor the narratives on it to suit their own agendas rapidly adopted this anti-Leave, anti-social media theme and are using it to subvert democracy, the free flow of information and freedom of speech.
If we really need an inquiry into such things perhaps the real targets should be the BBC, the Guardian, the politicians like Damian Collins and Anna Soubry, not forgetting May, and the Electoral Commission who have done so much to destroy trust in the system and have used it to entrench their own positions and power rather than for the interest of the people of this country. Here’s as story that somehow passed me by…the BBC has labelled Catholicism a ‘religion of hate’…this is the BBC of course that labelled Buddhism a ‘religion of violence’ due to events in Myanmar [though if it had been Muslims attacking Buddhists I’m sure the BBC narrative would have been one of Muslims defending their society, culture and religion from Buddhist supremacists trying to take over] whilst naturally telling us that the extremely violent religion of Islam is in fact a ‘religion of peace’.

BBC Scotland video says Holy Communion ‘smells like hate’
‘The Bishop of Paisley has criticised BBC Scotland after a video said Holy Communion “tastes like cardboard and smells like hate”.
The video was posted on the Facebook page of BBC The Social, a project aimed at young adults and managed by BBC Scotland, under the title “This is how homophobia feels in 2018”.
At one point it depicts a priest holding a Mini Cheddar in a parody of the Host, and giving it to a woman who makes the sign of the cross. The narrator says Jesus “saved a lot of time when he died for our crimes, that he would’ve wasted teaching small minds that love is no sin”.
He then looks at a street preacher, saying: “See him, he thinks it’s faith.” The video then cuts back to the women who received Communion and continues: “But under all that din, it tastes like cardboard and smells like hate”.’
As the Bishop says…the BBC wouldn’t dare say this about Islam…
‘“The BBC has to be careful,” he added. “It has to ask itself if it has ceased to be a broadcaster in the public interest, and is just promoting particular interests.”
“You cannot imagine it treating any other religion like this.”’
The BBC so busy playing identity politics and dividing society into battling groups that it forgets its charter obligation to promote civil society and citizenship…it in fact does everything it can to promote and stoke division, conflict and contempt for British society and identity.

That is serious and really Beyond bias . I have never really thought about making a formal complaint to al beeb but may well do so if the facts laid out are true – and from a look at the links you kindly provided -it appears so .
The former State religion was replaced by the Cof E – now it seems that in turn is to be replaced by Islam . And it’s getting close to the time when anyone trying to stop it will be on the receiving end of a kangaroo court ( see TR).
Truly appalling. How dare they try to undermine RC Church in that way. The treacherous bastards are always telling us how wonderful Islam is, when we all know that it is a sick death cult and a major threat to western civilisation and stability. One hopes such vile shit-stirring from the Beeb will act as a recruiting tool for all branches of the Christian church. Wouldn’t it be nice if someone from the CofE would come out and criticise the Beeb for this shameful piece of “journalism”.
At the next Census in 2021, I urge everyone who would normally think of themselves as Agnostic or Atheist to call themselves Christian (in the cases where they are nominally from a Christian family). I am non-relgious but would consider myself culturally Christian and would certainly be out defending churches and synagogues and other non-Muslim places of worship if it comes to it in the future.
