Start the Week Open Thread 21 May 2018

As many Britons bath in the post  nuptuals of a recent diverse wedding we return to the sad prospect of biased al Beeb. Monday the 21st – start of the Grenfell inquiry, Tuesday 22nd – anniversary of the Muslim terrorist attack in Manchester and at the end of the week the Irish Referendum on abortion . And the ongoing attacks on President Trump, Brexit and anyone or anything of which Albeeb groupthink disapproves

so a busy week…

European powers should protect Iranian oil sales from the US sanctions and continue buying Iranian crude.

European banks should safeguard trade with Iran.

The UK, France and Germany should pledge not to seek negotiations on Iran’s ballistic missile programme and regional activities, both demanded by Washington.

The supreme leader said that if the three countries were unable to meet these demands, Iran would resume its enrichment of uranium.

Day four of radio 4’s increasingly bizarre “Climate change and metoo” and any trace of actual science has finally disappeared. Today’s offering came from Jennifer Leaning who gave us the standard political fire and brimstones lecture from the pulpit.

Ms Leaning, who works in “human rights” at Harvard, started by describing the sometimes desperate conditions that face humans trying to survive in marginal areas, in places such as the horn of Africa. It was ever so. The new game in town is to blame it on humans changing the climate, as if we can do anything about the cold and hot areas that Mother Nature has always created on planet Earth. It gets very silly when Ms Leaning suggests that a deciding factor in the Syrian civil war was a four year drought in northern areas of the country. And there was your correspondent thinking that a deciding factor in the largely muslim civil war might have been a desire to overthrow the dictator Assad during the so-called Arab spring revolution.

It is easy to point to human conflict, endemic throughout history, and blame it on your pet theory du jour. It is unlikely that Ms Leaning would consider that the effect of recent small increases in atmospheric CO2 has led over the last few decades to an estimated 10% increase in plant life. It is unlikely that she would consider the lessons of history that humans do better in times of gentle warming. Cooler periods tend to lead to food shortages, increased levels of disease and widespread warfare. It is also unlikely that she has considered the temperature data from satellites that show clearly that any recent increases in global temperatures has been concentrated in the northern latitudes with Africa and the tropics much less affected.

Real science, provable science – not scare stories designed to drive a political message by so-called scientists and academics addicted to constant virtue signaling.

According to Ms Leaning the south Pacific presents us with the first forced migration of people due to climate change. Apparently sea levels are rising and threatening to engulf many of the local islands. There is no solid evidence for this. Any change could easily be due to movement underneath of tectonic plates. Islands come and go – it happens. Needless to say, local rulers have been quick to pick up on the foreign aid possibilities with Ms Leaning noting that they have been “compliant and respectful” in their shakedown, sorry, requests. Such as been the scale of the economic aid that some wags have suggested that the rulers of some these islands face problems if sea levels rise and even bigger problems if they don’t.

By the end of her talk Ms Leaning went into full fire and brimstone mode blaming almost everything in the natural world on human-induced climate change. In the end it just ended up as massive job creation plea for more academics like her to open yet more brainwashing university human rights and environmental departments.

We press on. Any takers for just a hint of science from the “eminent scientists” on day five?

      Very good points.

Looking back to the 17th century, we find it hard to understand how rational people could believe in witchcraft, and burn innocent people at the stake for a “crime” which simply did not exist.

Assuming civilisation survives for another 500 years (and that is a hope rather than an expectation), I wonder if people will find it similarly amazing that we have worked ourselves into a frenzy over a slight increase in a harmless trace gas in the atmosphere? It will be very hard for them to understand.

Of course, by then, the twin processes of de-industrialization and islamification may have led to all knowledge of the past being haram. The one thing the study of history ought to teach is that the people acting at the time had no way of knowing how things would work out.

For us, my best guess is: badly.

It’s telling, isn’t it? We native Brits enjoy quaint traditions like the slightly daft, but entirely benign, Morris Dancing… and this Muzzie crowd enjoy watching a bloody festival of self flagellation. Hmmm…
I remember, not that long ago, the liberal elite getting their ethically sourced, Luva Huva knickers in a twist, when they discovered a local British tradition that had gone on since the year dot. It involved some bloke who “blacked up” (uh-oh) and got chased through the streets. No-one was hurt and it was entirely harmless and was a local custom, the origins of which are lost in the mists of time. The Guardian and the Beeb were all over it like measles.
They were outraged that such things could still go on in modern, tolerant (??) multi-racial Britain. The way they described this event you would have thought that a branch of the Ku Klux Klan had taken up residence in Cornwall.
I believe it’s been banned now, such was the screeching from the left, aided and abetted by some “progressive” PC pillock on the council. I think that’s a shame.
Will we be seeing similar rabid outrage at this revolting, subhuman spectacle?

RT Are using Diane Abbott to highlight the UK is racist … I would love to see Douglas Murray debate Diane Abbott … please make it happen RT …

Neocon Douglas Murray’s attempt to destroy ‘the myth of British racism’ by citing that Brits ‘warmly received’ Meghan Markle ‘into their hearts,’ is ambitious for an author with a litany of Islamophobia accusations to his name.
In a frankly bizarre piece by the white, middle class, Eton and Oxford educated, associate director of the right-wing neocon think tank, The Henry Jackson Society, Murray tried to make the argument that the recent royal wedding between one white, privileged, royal and a mixed-race celebrity, was proof that Britain has no racism issue.

    ‘Britain is not racist, Meghan Markle proves it’ – argues white, Etonian, neocon Douglas Murray {rt.com 23may2018}

For real evidence of British racism, Murray would do well to sit down with a black MP, such as Diane Abbott who was revealed by Amnesty International as receiving nearly 50% of all abuse directed at British parliamentarians on social media, during the lead up to the 2017 General election. Abbott told the Amnesty International study, that she had received hundreds of letters including ones “covered in swastikas and pictures of monkeys and chimpanzees”.

Spend some time with her and then tell your Spectator readers that racism in Britain is a myth.

The UK has a population of around 64 million people, of whom 9.4 are foreign born. That means that almost 15% of people living in the UK are foreign born. A striking figure.

          So right, wronged, so right.

The Poll Tax (Community Charge) was actually a really good idea spoilt, like so many Conservative initiatives, in its implementation.

Saw hints of that again this time last year with the Conservative Election manifesto.

The Poll Tax was weighted too harshly toward the low paid and there were insufficient exemptions for minimal payments. It was stupidly introduced in Scotland first. It should have been trialled in leafy Tory shires. Because Thatcher and Michael Portillo were unwilling to fine tune it after the inevitable flaws were observed and experienced, it became a battle ground, a cause célèbre for all of the Left.

In its place we have the even more iniquitous Council Tax, a Labour-approved tax that really does rip the financial heart out of the poor and lower paid while advantaging the rich.

It`s laying trails and blazing righteousness in all things historical.

Didn`t bother with it. Usual crap.
But put the radio on again at 8.45. And some bloke was telling me that looking at people, clothing, weight and the like were now a crime, cause of misery, judgemental oppression and other horrid things.
The two shows were right next to each other on the schedule.
What`s a girl to do?…do I thank Vivienne Westwood or do I spit venom at anybody who says I`ve lost a bit of weight?
can`t imagine that the BBC even care how nuts they now are. They just put it out there, like a sack of rotten fish heads with a small phial of caviar if you`re bovvered.

Thank you all, I honestly don`t need to bother with a telly, the stories cited here need no pictures whatsoever.
I know Emilys face if Steve Bannon is trying to inform her, from all her other hissy fits to no avail since 2009.

My point is that , from what you`re saying there is just no news. Only opinion, posture settings and signalling surrender to Islam, and virtue to their caste.
It`s all opinion, bitchslaps, stirring a pot and massaging features so Brexit and Trump are bad, Corbyn and the EU are grand.
I mean , has anything NEW actually happened that we`ve not already seen on an endless loop before?
Islam Trump, Brexit, Corbyn, EU, Greencrap?
Where`s the news in any of THAT?
Good times-they`ve run out of news.
Literally nothing to say, but what key is “scraping the barrel”, come the day when there`ll be no 24 hour news and we`ll all let it whine on with a white dot as we used to.
Wonder how many sharks Evel Knieval could have jumped on his disability scooter? That is all the BBC are giving us now since 2010.

      Holly
From the mainstream media I restrict myself to the free online papers – Daily Mail and (increasingly silly) Guardian, about twice a week. I’ll look at the BBC site only when someone links to it on here. Now and again I’ll check out foreign papers. Otherwise I’ll be browsing all those other politically naughty sites for news – that I’m sure Mrs May would tut and wag a finger at.

Cutting to the chase, looking at mainstream news is increasingly a waste of time. There’s plenty of decent series for entertainment on the streaming services. And a few decent documentaries on some – plus there’s always YouTube (as horribly progressive as they are). Remember you don’t have to have a licence and still watch TV or a PC as long they aren’t live broadcasts.

Nowadays I think the only ‘news’ from any of the main media outlets that might be worth a quick tune-in would be the outbreak of civil war. I’d love to hear them whining about why it all went wrong. Hopefully with audible gunfire in the background.

More Guardian, ideologically driven, fake news as it attacks the Telegraph claiming it has misreported Corbyn’s speech by saying Corbyn had called for a united Ireland.

    Here’s the Guardian ‘take-down’ attempt….

This is what Jeremy Corbyn said in response to the final question, which was about whether he would back border poll as prime minister. He said:

‘That would be a decision that could be made within the terms of the Good Friday agreement. If that is the wish, then clearly such a poll would happen. I’m not asking for it, I’m not advocating it. What I’m asking for is a return to the fullness of the Good Friday agreement which would open up the opportunities and possibilities for the future of Ireland as whole.

That is the point of the Good Friday agreement – not direct rule, not imposition of a political view from Westminster, but devolution of powers to Stormont here and of course the relationship with the Republic. And it is quite clear that it’s there for a poll on both sides of the border, should that be something that is demanded.’

Corbyn is a longstanding supporter of Irish reunification, although since becoming Labour leader he has said little on this subject.

His comment today, stressing that he would not be pushing for a border poll, seemed intended to correct a story on the front page of today’s Daily Telegraph. At a briefing yesterday Corbyn’s spokesman was asked if Corbyn still supported a united Ireland, as he did when he was a backbencher. The spokesman said that Corbyn had not changed his view, but that he accepted that unification would only happen in accordance with the procedure set out in the Good Friday agreement (which said the people of Northern Ireland would have to vote for this in a referendum.)

By the time this ended up as the Telegraph splash, it became: “Corbyn calls for a united Ireland.”

Trouble is the Telegraph report was about comments Corbyn had made previously and the report was published before the speech…so how the Guardian thinks it is a report on the speech given is beyond me…..the Telegraph report goes over previous comments and asks on the eve of the visit if he still held these views…answer…he does…..

JEREMY CORBYN has been accused of “defying the will of the people” by expressing support for the unification of Ireland as he makes his first visit to Ulster as Labour leader.

In an interview shortly after he became Labour leader, he said unification was an “aspiration that I have always gone along with”. Asked on the eve of his visit whether Mr Corbyn still held that view, his spokesman said that “over the years” he had “made his position clear that a majority of those people across the whole island of Ireland wanted to see that outcome”.

They challenged him to meet the families of IRA murder victims and “listen to what they have to say” following his failure to apologise for his past support of the terrorist organisation.

Mr Corbyn is to speak at Queen’s University Belfast

The BBC reported this morning that Corbyn stated that any type of border between North and South in Ireland would ‘undermine peace in Northern Ireland’.

Amazing how such statements are so casually accepted. Corbyn is essentially saying that if there is any type of border terrorism will start again in NI. He’s fully accepting that terrorism is a rational and justifiable response to a minor inconvenience of having to deal with some border bureaucracy, should there be any, and that the democratic vote for Brexit can be essentially oveturned by the threat of that violence.

So can Brexiteers, should the democratically mandated Brexit be stopped and we remain in the EU, then mount a terrorist campaign to pressurise the government to fulfill its obligations?

What if Boris came out and said he thought that stopping Brexit would undermine peace in the UK, meaning there would be a violent, terrorist response from Leave voters?
Somehow can’t imagine the BBC et al taking that so calmly and reporting it as if such a reaction was only reasonable, justifiable and to be expected.
Boris would be torn to pieces by the BBC for encouraging terrorism. But not Comrade Corbyn. Once again the terrorist leading the Labour Party gets a free pass.

If someone murders your Mum or Dad you don’t give them an amnesty. Only a coward would do so. If your frightened of a bully they will bully you more. You square up to them face to face.

For God’s May stand up for your country. Stuff the cameras. If Eire, the IRA or EU don’t like it.
      Tough get used to it.

At the time of the ‘peace deal’. The IRA were finished and down to just 200 operatives according to MI5. They were squealing on each other., They couldn’t trust each other. Blair knew this and expoited it to the full.
He gave the impression of ‘look at me, the peacemaker’. He then, wrongly, took us into the Iraq war where many young servicemen needlessly died as mentally, did their mum’s and dad’s at home.

For God’s sake get Blair in prison while we still can.

Obama knew all about Trump being spied on. Watch Bill Still 2246 and listen to Joe Di Genova explaining something much bigger than Watergate.
DiGenova is always good to listen to, especially if you’ve been watching the BBC (or listening to R4),or reading the Guardian. A real pick-me-up after exposure to the trashy, toxic, treachery you’re likely to have received from the latter two ‘sources’. If Di Genova were Attorney-General, the Obama/Comey/Brennan clique would be in serious trouble…

Not that they’re out and out raging Republican supporters mind you, they’re just not overtly left wing enough and and have been around the block to see through the ‘hollywood so white’ race-baiting nonsense. To be fair, it isn’t looking all that good for Bill Cosby..

The Manchester response has been dismissive and, of course, the Oasis Don’t Look Back in Anger public concert sing along was broadcast by the BBC. But who will be held responsible for these deaths, deaths of young innocent children caused by the failure of Mass Muslim migration policies of the left. It is the left in this country who have allowed young jihadis to become radicalised in this country through fear of political correctness. It is the left who have made being Muslim a superior being, a victim, they have made the problem worse as no one wants to be associated with these people! The left is entirely to blame, so as usual the BBC and the lefty luvvies working within it remain silent. But where is justice?
