Midweek Open Thread

Glorious moment this morning on the Today show as the ‘underpaid’ Carrie Gracie enthusiastically cheered as she led a discussion on female scientists and heard that a male scientist in the golden age of male dominance thought that women were just as good and just as intelligent as men….hurrah said Gracie….and then the completely unaware speaker added…‘and cheaper’.…Gracie let out a very sudden, deeply disappointed ‘Oh!!’ and came to a full stop.  Gloriously funny.

Anyway…no shortage of bias judging by a mere 15 minute listening to the Today show this morning….apparently Labour could be in government inside 12 months [top tip from Nick Robinson] and Sadiq Khan’s anti-Brexit ‘project fear’ report was produced by an entirely independent and impartial group. [LOLLOLLOL….both pro-Corbyn and anti-Brexit]].

List the bias here…..

Sorry as no doubt this has been covered above. No wonder this little gem was buried way down the bbc’s ‘news’ site. 😎

The national broadcaster at work, worldwide (‘a book reveals’… is that all that is required?).

    👍 The good news:
    Trump doesn’t drink or smoke.

    👎 The bad news:
A recent book revealed Trump campaign diet consisted of…McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried, Chicken, Pizza and Diet Coke

  3. Beeb Brother says:

A huge advantage Trump has is that he is counter culture (who does not love a rebel) and extremely funny. All their nannyish finger wagging – it’s no fun and we have endured decades of it. A gay man does not like Trump, they reported today. God it’s so mind-numbingly repetitive: the same old narrow, nannying nonsense over and over and over.

Seeing Trump mock a reporter for menstruating he became almost a messianic figure to me; a weight lifted and a fresh breeze blew. Someone actually made a joke and offended someone! Praise the Lord! Political correctness is tyranny with manners. To see a white knight finally slaying this dragon every day is glorious. Every time they try to attack him for a thought crime, such as saying some countries are sh*tholes, he only goes up in the estimations of his supporters.

    • Lefty Wright says:

I’ll tell you what Beeb. If any one of you right wing arseholes on this site can say something that deeply offends me personally I will pay one lb to any charity of your choice every time I get hurt.
Life is just too short to waste it all on getting hurt feelings.

  4. StewGreen says:

What’s the rule about giving an opinion about what someone sais ?
..It that you don’t take a journalists word for it , you actually go and listen to the tape yourself.
Yesterday I couldn’t understand why the media didn’t just play the clip of Farage from the Channel 5 show that I watched.
    – But now on 5 Live they just played it ..they’ve cleaned it.
The reason they couldn’t play it yesterday is that it was full of Yasmin Alibhai Brown screeching, yet today they played a mix without any input from her microphone.

  5. Beeb Brother says:

That Sopel and Humphreys were caught making jokes about the pay gap shows how ridiculous this PC universe is where they expect nobody to ever offend or upset anyone. Even dyed in the wool Beeboids make offensive jokes when they think nobody else is listening.

  6. Alex says:

Currently watching bbc ‘news’. First we had gloating over Trump cancelling his UK visit, with one reporter suggesting that leftie activists threatening to protest acted as the principal deterrent in his decision; we also had coverage of that useless idiot Sadiq Khan tweeting that Trump has finally got the message etc. How f******* dare that talentless moron arrogate to himself the right to presume he speaks on behalf of this country! I’m sick of the smug bbc and its Labour idols trying their best to damage our relationship with the US.

    • Guest Who says:

One not likely to make the cut?:

Nice to see bbc in the receiving end of a) friendly fire and b) a nicely vague ‘pressure building’ headline

    • Synchronised says:

Well folks we have it all to look forward to. Oprah as President, Sadiq as PM, Brexit sabotaged and Carrie Gracie as DG of our state broadcaster. Somebody out there put the brakes on. I feel like I’m living in a parallel universe looking on in disbelief.

      • JamesArthur says:

        You and many others..Sync
Funny it’s okay to have Oprah put forward as President but isn’t that just populist politics that the Left keep knocking Brexit and Trump for?

Is there a word for Left hypocrisy?

      • Adezeroonie says:

        Hi Sync,
These people are completely deluded. Oprah for President?? They are so far up themselves they can’t distinguish reality from the scripts that they are sent. Aren’t these the people who cosy up to folks like Weinstein to get ahead? Oprah, God bless her, has no chance.

  7. Stevie m says:

Just been permanently banned off twitter because freedom of speech only seems to work if you are liberal, left wing or sadiq khan. Doesn’t matter to me what colour you are, what does matter is if you’re in public life and are thick, incompetent or a purveyor of fake news then you are in my sights. Looks like you will be putting up with me for a while

  8. Antibeeb says:

Another day, another BBC News front page with some of their Favourite Four demographics checked (women, black people, gays and transsexuals, bonus points for ‘strong independent black women’): https://i.imgur.com/RQtacqb.png

Every day they will find an excuse to publish stories about at least two of those demographics. So predictable.

  9. vlad says:

‘Donald Trump cancels February visit to UK’

I imagine there was much air-punching and high-fiving in the al beeb ‘news’ studios this morning. “We did it, yay”.

We’ve gone from back of the queue with the previous muslim president, to front of the queue with Trump, to back of the queue again, or maybe not-in-the-queue at all.

Well done beeb, well done Treezer, well done Burk-o, well done Il-Liberals, Lefties and sanctimonious PC virtue-signallers. And especially well done the baying mob.

A huge loss for the UK and a step backwards for civilization and the rule of law.

    • RJ says:

“We’ve gone from back of the queue with the previous muslim president, to front of the queue with Trump, to back of the queue again, or maybe not-in-the-queue at all.”

The one hope we have left is that President Trump will want a free trade agreement with us to screw the EU. It won’t be because we are seen as a friend but because they are seen as an enemy.

    • StewGreen says:

How come all the lib-driven actions seen to benefit Putin and NOT the UK ?
      – We effectively ban fracking – and then buy Russian Arctic gas
      – London streets full of demonstrators, yet no one paying attention to northern grooming gangs
      – Open borders mean we let in terrorist-guys and rapists among so called “refugees”
      – Fantasising about solar/wind means everything costs a few pence more to cover the rich guys who receive the subsidies
      – They even seem to succeed in putting British women against British men/

I made the mistake of watching BBC QT last night and I’m still thoroughly depressed 🙁

I do try to understand others’ way of thinking but, I fail constantly to comprehend how they arrived at their point of view. I’m beginning to feel all hope is lost for this country…

    • Fedup2 says:

Country – I didn’t realise same people still bother with that – chin up – try a horror cast – Hattie Harmon – alibi brown/black – the stunted crankie –
Another ethnic lefty with a chip ( big choice ) eg Abottimus and billy Bragg as the token cockney – down with the kids c—t.

Make your list – I’m trying to think of a decent panel but why bother ?

    • honestus says:

CB, for what its worth, there are many many ‘normal’ people with similar views to yourself and others on this site. They may not twitter or post and you hardly ever see them via the MSM – but they are there and each one of them has a vote. And, I am seeing so many alternative views through the various internet portals to give me hope that common sense and propriety still exists in large quantities within our country.

      • countryblues says:

I think ‘they’ might be winning.

How long before sites such as this and others where ‘common sense’ can be found will be deemed to be illegal and banished?

        Sinister times indeed 🙁

        • Fedup2 says:

I fear you might be right . There are signs of this repression Virgin Trains and Daily Mail. Twitter bans. It’s happening far more rapidly than i though .

Even an American President is being pressured into avoiding Blighty .

  11. vlad says:

Beebistan is reaching for the smelling salts as “Trump in crude outburst about migrants”.

I wish WE had leaders who spoke up against migrants (invaders) from shithole countries.

    Is it ‘presedential’? Maybe not.

Is it telling it like it is? You bet.

I know which I prefer. The time for niceties is over, it’s now a matter of survival, and if a bit of vulgarity wakes people up, so be it.

  12. JamesArthur says:

At least Boris has had the balls to call Khan exactly what he is – in a rather British way.. wrt to Trump

  13. Beeb Brother says:

“Trump denies crude slur on migrants.”

Of course they can hurl the most obscene slurs at Trump, my personal favourite being when The Today show had a chortle over a production of Julius Caesar which depicted a Trumpian figure being murdered. Assassination – how hilarious! Then they go all holier than thou when he states obvious facts about certain countries.

Would they rather live in Somalia or Norway? Do people want to leave a country or immigrate to it? That is the basic test as to where is a good place to live.

Once again he is forcing them to have uncomfortable conversations and exposes their hypocrisy.

    • Rob in Cheshire says:

I’d rather live in a Norway without Somalians. Even a Britain without Somalians would do. Somehow we managed without them for thousands of years, and I think we did all right.

Think of the equation: Sir Mo’s gold medals and SPOTY win, against a quarter of a million knife merchants claiming dole and chewing khat all day. I don’t think we need those medals that badly.

      • Al Shubtill says:

Why on earth would Trump rather have Norwegians emigrating to the U.S. than Haitians?

        GDP Per Capita:
        $739 Haiti
        $70,812 Norway

        Murders per 100K people
        12.5 Africa
        10.0 Haiti
        3.0 Europe
        0.56 Norway

        Infant Death Rate per 100K
        46.8 Haiti
        2.5 Norway

        Oh! That’s why.

        • BRISSLES says:

Steady on, there’s an awful lot of migrants in Norway, and if they take Trump at his word he might live to regret it – Merkel certainly has !!!

  14. vlad says:

He got the message, gloats the vile Khant, friend and defender of terrorists.

And look who Khant let into the UK: Khan represented the American Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan in the High Court and successfully overturned a ban on him entering the United Kingdom, first imposed in 1986.

  15. Beeb Brother says:

BBC London: Someone from an ethnic minority has taken up boxing. Isn’t that fantastic?

That is just a story – it isn’t news. We should not have to pay for this patronising crap.

  16. Thatcherrevolutionary says:

What does it say about our country when the US embassy has to be built to the same specification as the ones in Pakistan, Iran, Beirut, etc ?
    Progress ?
    I think not.

  17. Alex says:

An example of blatant migrant propaganda by the supposed ‘impartial’ bbc in response to the alleged POTUS comments. How dare a publicly funded news site choose to retaliate (as if it is some sort of moral arbiter on the world stage) by pushing an obvious politically partisan narrative: it is unacceptable that a neutral organisation advertises such a left-wing, ideologically-charged worldview. At the very least it should report migrant stories that are in truth not so successful, and there is plenty of subject matter on that subject. The bbc are a disgrace.

  18. Sir_Arthur_Strebe-Grebling says:

  19. Dave666 says:

The vomit inducing story line on Doctors continues with the pregnant illegal immigrant from Albania getting deported. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p05stjcj
    Meanwhile on Father Brown today..

    • Alex says:

The bbc is nothing more than a Labour branch for PR. It should be shut down immediately.

    • BRISSLES says:

Dave….. yep, and I hope Jeffery Bubbles Gymbunny was watching Father Brown today as well (whilst sweating the pounds away). Honestly, you couldn’t make it up. Glamorous black woman (ex Death in Paradise) mincing about quiet English village – (forget the story line, it was pure Disney), the whole idea is too ridiculous.

Someone ought to tell the BBC that ethnic minorities didn’t inhabit anywhere outside of the big cities in the years after the war, there simply wasn’t the work, except for farming and fruit picking. And even today are there black shepherds, or farmers ?

      • Jeff says:

Yes I was, though at home enjoying a spot of lunch and nearly choked on my cheese and pickle sarnie.
A black woman goes on the run in Blighty and one of ’em says, “We’ll never find her, she could be anywhere.” Well yes, if this took place today he’d be right. But this was supposed to be a rural backwater 60 plus years ago. She’d have stood out like the proverbial sore thumb!
Look, the truth is the Beeb think we’re all completely thick and historically illiterate. Half the cast of Merlin was made up of mixed race Rastafarians. In Robin Hood, Friar Tuck became a 6ft West Indian and when they made 1066, William the Conqueror’s chief lieutenant was black. It’s pc gone bonkers!
I’m waiting for the next series of Father Brown when he “transgenders” and comes back as Mrs Brown.
        Oh, hang on…

  20. AsISeeIt says:

    Well, Hell, so what..?
Sir Christopher Meyer, former British Ambassador to the US, responds to the news that Donald J Trump will not be cutting the ribbon on the new US Embassy here in London. Later, on BBC News Channel, we’re promised the well-upholstered gravitas of Simon McCoy will be interviewing the West Country butcher who locked himself in his own freezer unit and escaped using a black pudding as a battering ram. A further hint there, perhaps, that we are still in silly season. Sir Chris admits to his own jocular mixing of metaphors as he declares “This story has more than a whiff of a storm in a teacup”. Would that be Earl Grey or Lapsang souchong – you spoil us, Mr Ambassador. He admits “The optics of this do not look good” (once again half the phrasing there seems redundant but I’m warming to this guy) he reassures that this tale will in no way affect our trade, diplomatic or defence relations with the States. So there! McCoy isn’t done with stories about probably the most obsessively-watched foreign leader of all time. Bear in mind the BBC tells us absolutely nothing about Xi Jinping over there in China. Perhaps the BBC’s Suffragette (or suffering jet-lag) Carrie Gracie wasn’t pulling her weight journalistically at the China desk after all, whereas the slimey limey Sopel at least seems to put in a journeyman’s work copying out longhand every jot that left-leaning CNN has to say about Trump. And so we come to more Trump news. He’s upset the UN. What, by withdrawing part of the huge US funding to this supranational talking shop? – we certainly know how we upset the EU that way. Nope, apparently he’s caused “potential offence” – wait two seconds and someone will take him up on that! “Very strong language” says BBC boy McCoy. Not quite as strong as Humphrys used when he was bantering and effing with Sopel as they joked off-air about their pay and whether they might transfer some of their dosh to the fragrant Gracie. This tale sounds like a Shitstorm in a Today Programme – so don’t expect to hear much about it on the BBC. Oh to be a fly on the gender-neutral W1A locker room wall.

  21. s.trubble says:

Alex, the strange headed Dimbelbore provided absolute proof in support of your point; in chiding Piers Morgan who was comparing and contrasting the treatment of Toby Young to some radical called Jared O’Mara, Dimbelby corrected Piers with his precise knowledge of this cretin(o’Mara) and his current status withing the ranks of the communist party going by its nom de plume….labour.

  22. Thoughtful says:

A load of Socialist tosh from the BBC which isn’t even correct !

“How hate crime affects a whole community”

It mentions the massacre of 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, which it simply accepts as Owen Jones version, and not the correct one which was that a Jihadi Islamist Terrorist killed the Gays because Islam is the most homophobic religion in existence.

To have admitted this would have consequences which the BBC do not want to face up to

Then there’s the burkini ban in France in France which is apparently a hate crime which affect the entire community in Britain (How exactly is doesn’t say).

They mention the murder of an elderly Muslim man in Birmingham but conveniently forget to mention that he was murdered by a Ukrainian migrant who had only been in the UK a week !

They try to draw some perverse conclusion that people react more to reports of ‘hate crime’ than to ordinary crime – couldn’t have anything to do with the left wing conditioning could it?

They fail to recognise the number of false claims made in order to either gain an enhanced Police response or a media Jihad in which the events reported never even happened at all, and there are a lot of these.

Whilst keeping a straight face they then go on to state the non existent definition of this imaginary ‘crime’.

“any criminal offence which is perceived, by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by a hostility or prejudice”

For a start then it doesn’t even have to be the victim which regards this as ‘hate’, it can be anyone, and there doesn’t need to be any evidence either – just a perception is sufficient to record a ‘hate crime’.
Motivated by hostility? Many crimes are motivated by hostility, doesn’t mean someone has some kind of extreme political beliefs though.

The most shocking part about ‘hate crimes’ is that they are always limited to the lefts favourite victim groups, the Police simply refuse to record ‘hate crime’ against white Christian men & often women too. Rotherham should have been thousands of hate crimes, yet it didn’t generate a single one.

White lives don’t matter – time the BBC reported that.

    • vlad says:

    • Beeb Brother says:

The Manchester bombing was not recorded as a hate crime as British values are not a protected group under hate crime legislation. Twenty two murdered not ‘hatred’ but reading a Tweet that upsets you, however unreasonable your response, constitutes a ‘hate crime.’

    • maxincony says:

It mentions the massacre of 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, which it simply accepts as Owen Jones version, and not the correct one…

“Owen Jones’” version, was that the people in the nightclub were murdered because they were Gay. Whatever motivated Omar Mateen’s hatred (which is disputed) the end result was the same.

Then there’s the burkini ban in France in France which is apparently a hate crime…

The article makes no such claim.

They mention the murder of an elderly Muslim man in Birmingham but conveniently forget to mention that he was murdered by a Ukrainian migrant who had only been in the UK a week !

They also didn’t mention that his murderer was a white supremacist. So what? It doesn’t change that fact that Mohammed Saleem was murdered for no other reason than he was a non-white Muslim.

They try to draw some perverse conclusion that people react more to reports of ‘hate crime’ than to ordinary crime…

Erm, no. The conclusion is that if, for example, one person is attacked because they are Jewish there is an implied attack on every Jewish person within that community.

Whilst keeping a straight face they then go on to state the non existent definition of this imaginary ‘crime’.

It’s a definition written into UK law; hardly, “non existent”.

…the Police simply refuse to record ‘hate crime’ against white Christian men & often women too.

Your evidence? (I presume you are excluding White Christians who may be disabled, gay or transgender?)

Rotherham should have been thousands of hate crimes, yet it didn’t generate a single one.

The Rotherham grooming gangs didn’t target people based on their race; there were many non-white victims. They abused anyone they could, regardless of skin colour.

That’s why they weren’t classed as hate crimes.

It’s really not that complicated, ‘Thoughtful’…

And guess what? It doesn’t have anything to do with vague, paranoid conspiracies about “left wing conditioning.”

  23. G says:

I have previously made the point that the UN is actually the enemy of the people in developed countries. What worth or likelihood of integration occurring when the country is invaded by ignorant savages coming from the, “shitholes” of the World?
And I hope President Trump did say that. Nothing like a dose of honesty!
I can see the US withdrawing from the UN, effectively as major donor, pulling the plug. Hurrah!

  24. StewGreen says:

Maybe not on BBC, but on Telegraph’s front-page
    – Government has list of illegal migrants, handed it to banks to close accounts.
    – Belfast Court – Facebook loses case against 14 year old, whose naked pictures were put on shaming page ..undisclosed damages paid.
    – Cumbria Trading Standards posted a photo of seized load £10K of illegal tobacco
.. So someone spotted the storage container and stole the lot.

  25. Excartographer says:

Donald Trump’s ‘racist slur’ provokes outrage – As I understand it an American politician who despises Donald Trump alleges that DT made a racist comment; this account taken as gospel and believed implicitly – DT denies making the comment and his denial is treated with derision and disbelieved implicitly. So that’s all good then…..

    • Lefty Wright says:

I think the hundreds of thousands of blacks trying to escape from Africa to invade Europe are making a racist comment without saying a bloody word. For them to risk their lives the way they do they must be fleeing SOME shithole.

  26. Payne by name says:

I’m not sure if Farage’s thoughts are part of a clever plan to encourage the silent Leavers to start making their feelings a little more audible by being the ones to shout ‘we don’t need another fucking referendum’.

You would imagine though that any pundit worth his salt would be able to destroy the remainers when you can point to a whole host of things that they said would happen – loss of investment, punishment budget, loss of jobs, stagnation, recession, earthquakes, rising sea levels etc, etc.

They could continue the argument by highlighting with crystal clarity the way the EU have treated us, the snubs, the going behind our backs, the moving goalposts of agree this thing and you’ll have a better trade deal but then renege on this along with their continued dictatorial treatment of the Eastern Europeans.

And of course the creation of that EU army, you know, the one that honourable Sir Clegg told us was a figment of Farage’s imagination but in fact was trying – Clegg caught lying again.

If we could muster enough decent orators, it would be like saying to someone who was getting divorced and had been put through the ringer ‘Christ, I bet you’re relieved to be shot of that petulant, unfair and immature bitch or bastard given how they have acted when you told them that you’d decided to move on’.

  27. StewGreen says:

R4 now More or Less is repeating its item about Trump drinking a heluva lot of died coke.
..They know there is no hard evidence he drinks 12 /day
    ..but it suits their narrative.

    • Lefty Wright says:

Oh dear, oh dear oh poxy fucking dear. Why is our national broadcaster so bloody pathetic? Anyone would think our President was hooked on six bottles of scotch a day. The worst that can happen if he drinks 12 cokes a day is that he can’t move too far away from a bleeding bog.
I’ve no doubt that a lot of his haters are on six LINES of coke a day.
      A pox on them all.

I agree that it’s another case of kicking someone when they’re down, but after reading more on that story I was surprised that his sentencing wasn’t more severe. IMO it’s abuse, and the height of professional misconduct. I think the positive references probably helped him a lot.

  36. Loobyloo says:

I’ve asked this question before – why are some criminals not named? I’ve read several articles on this and one even says ‘the attacker was not named’. He has been tried and sentenced (a ridiculous one at that), so isn’t this information in the public domain? Of course our trusty broadcaster doesn’t explain any of that.

    • StewGreen says:

Hmm LBC names him , the Mirror and BBC don’t seem to.
      “24-year-old Bradley Bilston”
No hangon on that’s LBC confusing the place name
..I’m guessing there is a second charge against the FATHER for assaulting his wife.
So by witholding the son’s name , they are not prejudicing that trial and protecting the woman’s identity.
The officer says they were trying to arrest the husband, and it was the mother who tried wind up the son to aggression .. that explains the light sentence.

      • StewGreen says:

“the court may give directions prohibiting the publication of the name or matter in relation to the proceedings if it is necessary for a certain purpose.”

      • Fedup2 says:

The rule becomes even more ridiculous when child relative kills another child of the family – as they say – and cannot be named . In fact the case can barely be reported – the judge might even order that restrictions aren’t reported either. Not a lot of freedom there…

    • Fedup2 says:

Looby It used to be the rehabilitation of offenders act of about 1974 which thought it would be nice if children and young people would not have their details made public because it would blight their future. Typical 1970s lefty crap. No regard to the victim, no regard to the public .

I don’t think it’s been changed . As a believer in personal responsibility I would name everyone and publish a picture a 13 year old murderer can’t be named and that’s wrong. A judge can order publication but it’s not done routinely .

      • imaynotalwaysloveyou says:

Fedup2 I totally agree, law-abiding people should be aware of the sociopaths and psychos living amongst them, even if they’re 30 year old Norwegians masquerading as 5th formers, wimmin with dubious rape allegations or your common-or-garden 14 year old vicious mugger (indigenous or imported). There should just be law, applicable to all – not ‘soft’ versions according to age, sex or ethnicity.

  37. Al Shubtill says:

    Trump does it again!
Says what everyone knows to be true about places like Haiti. Politicians won’t say it because they’re dishonest and don’t want to lose their jobs.
Don’t confuse me with the facts say the elitist liberal nut cases.
    Will it never end?

  38. Beeb Brother says:

Trump is politically incorrect and hurts people’s feelings – what a scoop!

The BBC ‘news’ must be haemorrhaging viewers. The same old ‘offence taking’ and allergy to reality. I bet Fiona Bruce does not holiday in El Salvador. A country is not a race. Still they just point at something and shout ‘racist!’ They need to come up with a new strategy as people are just ignoring or ridiculing them.

    • Fedup2 says:

They can’t get it into their heads that he is not a bred politician . Every one curses – presidents all – jfk, Johnson , Nixon – famed for it, hussein Obama was probably too busy with mo to cuss .

  39. ID says:

Why do some people write “s***hole” instead of “shithole”.
Unless the reader is educationally subnormal (PC enough?) you leave nothing unsaid for the reader. It seems like an exercise in futility.
I can see the point in using circumlocutions like “obscenity” or “expletive” or “crude expression”, if you were hypersensitive or “vulnerable”. However, use of language is so important on biasedbbc why censor what people have actually said?
Do we really want to be as prissy as the BBC about “tone” or “tohohohn” as they would pronounce it in their constipated manner? After all, over the years, the BBC has bombarded the public with a barrage of obscenities – why the sudden prudery?

    • Fedup2 says:

I try not to swear too much here because I’ve been told that swearing is verbal violence . But your right about the use of the **** *** asterisk.

There has to be some limiting of what is said though because we are all tagged and watched writing here. I can’t describe some of the remedies to Blightys many problem s because it might be construed as hate crime and certainly breach the European convention on human rights …….

      • ID says:

At least “******* asterisks” fully serves the purpose of self-censorship and leaves open the interpretation of the “bleeped” word. “f***ing asterisks” does not exactly cast a veil over the affront to asterisks.
Maybe we should all follow the example of the Captain of the Pinafore,

        Bad language or abuse,
        I never, never use,
        Whatever the emergency;
        Though “bother it” I may
        Occasionally say,
        I never use a big, big D—

        What never?

Well hardly ever – and only about the BBC

Give three cheers and one cheer more for the
        Self-censoring Captain of the Pinafore!!

    • StewGreen says:

Specifically for us here, this site WAS banned in my local library
      ..it then became unbanned
.. If we fill these pages with swearing and do stuff to set off its “adult themes” filter , then they may well ban it again.

      • taffman says:

        Hear hear !

      • Fedup2 says:

        Stew ,
My mind boggles as to what the ‘adult themes’ filter might apply. There are plenty of subjects which might be considered to have a theme discussed here . If fact I’ll stop completely as I didn’t want to set the filter off.

And stew – wow – you still gotta library?

      • imaynotalwaysloveyou says:

I wonder if papers like The Guardian ever get banned, there’s always plenty of effing in their comments. Although I think the c word gets your comment deleted, unless it’s directed at conservatives and brexiters.

At my library, if ever I want to read a specific book by a right-leaning author (Delingpole, Steyne, Victor Davis Hanson etc) I have to order it, they’re never on the shelves. Which I presume is because they only have one copy, not only for the main city library but also for all the smaller municipal libraries with in the county. Of course there’s a surfeit of copies available for rubbish written by Naomi Klein or Noam Chomsky.

  40. taffman says:

“Donald Trump cancels February visit to UK”
“However, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan – who has clashed with the president in the past – said the US president had “got the message” that many Londoners were staunchly opposed to his policies and actions.”

This is an utter disgrace! Sadiq Khan does not speak for Great Britain. Where is May, our Prime Minister? Where is Borris ? Many despotic leaders have been invited to Britain without a peep of protest .
These great islands need a new political party to take over from the Plastic Tories and Commie Corbynites, and I don’t mean the Limp Dems.
POTUS was our best ally in getting us to the front of queue.

    • taffman says:

\\”How France’s president made his mark on the world stage”
“Macron gets on quite well with Trump on a personal level,” he explains. “There’s a bit of ‘are you a winner or are you a loser?’ about Trump, and he sees Macron as a winner. It’s already acknowledged that Macron is the only one in Europe who’s been able to create something with Trump.”//
The French had no qualms ?
The US, is our greatest ally.

    • Lefty Wright says:

      President Trump’s sins are:-
      1. He is white
      2. He is male
      3. He wasn’t supposed to happen.
      Nuff sed.

      • Fedup2 says:

Lefty – being a long way from America I guess it’s difficult to gauge what the common view might be – from ordinary people with jobs and families as opposed to bubble dwellers. I understand that some part of the media went big yesterday on the fact that Walmart is increasing its minimum wage and providing an across the board bonus. Apparently the tax changes bought in will start showing in pay packets at the end on the month.
        I. Thinking that will say more than any off the cuff remark allegedly made.

    • Oaknash says:

Taffman “Where is May, our Prime Minister?”

She surrendered a long time ago to the likes of Michel Barnier, Sadiq Khan, Lilly Allen, Gary lineacre, Nick Clegg, Anna Soudbry, Laura Kunnesberg, Michael Adebolajo and Anjem Choudry .

She believes in nothing except compromise and surrender. And to be brutally honest she personifies her political class. All huff and puff but no substance.

  41. StewGreen says:

R4 News Quiz : the lefty/libs are sneering at panelist Peter Osbourne from the Mail not being a very funny.
..Well they invited a serious guy into their lefty bear-pit
… They might well have primed him to be straight.

    • Lefty Wright says:

I’m assuming you meant Peter Oborne who I find to be one of the most fair minded, objective journalists around. He is not a comedian so I doubt he is in it to get laughs. Like Peter Hitchens he can cut through the bullshit from wherever it comes so of course the bullshitters fear his words.

      • maxincony says:

        Lefty Wright,

…one of the most fair minded, objective journalists around.

        This is what Peter Oborne said about 12 year old child victims of grooming, psychological manipulation and rape;

What does it tell us about what’s happened to our society that we have 12 year old girls, 13 year old girls, who are happy to give up their affection and their beauty to men in exchange for a packet of crisps?

    • RJ says:

It’s a long time since I listened to the News Quiz. One of the reasons I gave up on it was because none of them were funny.

    • StewGreen says:

@Lefty mentioned Peter Hitchins, well he just called out the BBC
Peter Hitchens SLAMS The BBC – Stop pretending to be Impartial

    An act of terrorism?

Need I say more? A whole community? What about pensioners being mugged/attacked/murdered? Definition of community: “a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common”. FFS. So you can’t be a part of the community unless you’re Muslim or LBGT? “The University of Sussex project used studies, experiments and interviews with a total of more than 1,000 Muslim and 2,000 LGBT people in the UK to investigate the indirect effects of such crimes”. What about other people? So, what about the other people in the ‘community’? I’m not muslim or LBGT (or whatever the moniker is these days) but I was called a t*sser the other day because I inadvertently cut somebody up in my car driving to work. What did I do? Report it to the police or got on with my day? FFS. I can’t remember the last time (never) I actually heard anybody verbally abuse somebody in the street (do I live in a bubble?), but according to this BBC report this is part of everyday life. How can I live with myself?

    • Lefty Wright says:

Cheer up mate. Apparently Baroness Jenkin in the Hice of Lords today used the term Friar Tucking -Tory- Jeremy Hunt. Swoon —–I think I’m in love again.

  44. deegee says:

India Willoughby: Is it discriminatory to refuse to date a trans woman?

Of course it is. Whenever someone refuses or accepts a dating offer they are discriminating.

  45. Roland Deschain says:

Watching the BBC news at ten and seeing the virtual hysteria about President Trump supposedly calling countries a sh*thole. I’d lay good money that most people have described these countries in exactly those terms, yet the BBC has a fit of the vapours as if he’d mooned at the Queen. With a clear presumption that he actually said it, despite the only person who actually says he heard it being known for disliking Trump.

Even my teenage daughter remarked that the media would hate him just for breathing the wrong way, though she’s never been one to go with the herd.

Was I the only one watching who thought that this really can’t be allowed to go on? And feeling utterly helpless as to how it can be stopped? Perhaps it doesn’t matter; I do get the feeling that more and more people are seeing through this and realise that the media are out of control. But maybe that’s wishful thinking on my part.

    What do others think?

    • Guest Who says:

I think the bbc keeps pushing the envelope and nothing happens, so they push further. Who is there to keep them in check?

This is from BBC News in Facebook:

“President Trump scrapped next month’s visit to London… and the internet reacted in the best way!”

Even those who really can’t abide him seem gonsmacked at how the British national broadcaster has turned into some daft teenage cat fight club where only those in the ‘in crowd’ are cool.

    Her latest tweet

The UK is a world leader in promoting clean growth *

We want to share the benefits around the world
and help other countries do the same. ***

    FFS that’s filled with FakeNews
    * “leader” ..yes there is a reason why other countries have not pushed forward on biz that depends on SUBSIDIES & brings network inefficiencies and costs
** Probably fake, cos US is the country that has reduced CO2 the most
+ carbon accounting is extemely flaky
cutting down US forests TODAY then burning/emitting CO2 at Drax & claiming that reduces UK CO2 output TODAY (when actually new trees take 20+ years to recoup that CO2
*** Force poor African countries to use wind/solar instead of proper FULL-time power

  49. Stevie m says:

You give a glorified council leader a voice and boy does he make the most of it. One of the best put downs from Boris. I prefered it when mayors wore plenty of bling and said drove about in Rolls Royces

  50. Cooper_Man says:

There’s a piece on the Beeb’s Science page today about newly discovered fossils have shown that butterflies have been around a lot longer than was thought – up from 130 million years to at least 200 million years. Funnily enough it has its own HYS running! Anyway, as expected they managed to work in a climate change angle into the story – the lead researcher from Utrecht University said “this information is paramount to help us piece together how current manmade climate change might affect insects and their evolution in the future.”

I have one prediction – insects will still be around when man is but a forgotten memory.
