This could be a great fun week in the world of beebland!

Their report on equal pay will be released, and if advance commentary is correct it looks as though the BBC will not come out of it looking too good. Their hypocrisy will be exposed on an issue which they themselves have been championing for as long as I can remember.

Will be interesting to see how they try to spin it.

When one organisation dominates the market place with a 70% share the market ceases to function and the dominant player can dictate what it pays its suppliers and in this case its so called talent. The BBC is spendthrift with tax payers money , if it had to fight its corner in the commercial world there is no doubt that it would pay its so called talent much less than it does at present. Just another reason the BBC should be put on a fully commercial footing with a subscription funding system.

Trouble is Double, they all have their snouts in the public purse, so style, ingenuity, skills in journalism, ability to communicate etc are not really high up the agenda of bbbc autocue readers and their ‘management’. Autpmorons really.

Rather like MPs and their ‘staff’, who are only geared to do feck all really, they never get held to account like a normal business model demands. (Sorry Scrobs, do you mean the actual UK businesses which earn their money and pay tax, not just waste it)? er – yes…

OK, election results matter for MPs, (not so much for the electorate) but that seems to come to nothing when there are so many hangers-on who are also in the trough. e.g., why on earth is that pratt Clegg even being plastered all over the news of late? Not even an MP, but still a toad on lame TV snapshots of past failure.

If it is true that female are paid less than the males in the BBC and they equalising pay, then Government should instruct (yes, instruct) the BBC to reduce their male salaries accordingly. We all know that salaries are unwarrantedly high in the BBC, and it would be intolerable if the BBC were to raise the women’s to match the men’s.

    Yes this will be fun.
They will squirm due to the lack of pay parity despite lecturing everyone else. Plus they will squirm on the actual astronomical pay packets of many of their staff.

    • Beltane says:

Sadly they won’t squirm in embarrassment at their astronomical pay packets since they are very easily convinced of being worth every penny – and of course there’s no-one to significantly challenge or control how they spend our money anyway. Risibly, that’s the job of our government but they don’t seem bothered.
It’s the same BBC mindset that believes everything in the Guardian and reproduces it as news.

You can bet that Ladies’ salaries will rise to the same level as blokes.

I don’t have a problem with all this one jot, but why has the Commissariat in W1A left it so late? They waste money in all directions already, and I’d have thought that they were really letting themselves down by not paying some decent, clever journos, a decent wedge.

Perhaps they feel that the ladies aren’t up to it? Can’t think of another reason.

    TODAY WATCH
still limiting exposure to 30 minutes .
But…. 0730… long feature on the PREVENT strategy which gleefully declared that a third of those referred to it are potential’ extreme right winger’ associated to edl and others. An Asian reporter interviewed someone using the voice of her producer to cover the punters identity.

I gave up before the end in disbelief. It was classic al Beeb twisting of reality. It shows thatPREVENT is being used as a political tool and not purely a counter terrorism one. As far as I heard neither Muslim or Islam or Isis was mentioned. I almost laughed at this and felt the urge to dust of my well read copy of 1984. We really are going there.

On the basis that probably half of prevent is being used on domestic – Christian – potential threats as identified by the state any one stating non liberal or non multicultural views are on the states’ target list. In other words – ladies and gentlemen- we are probably on a list somewhere. Frightening isn’t it?

Not a lot of pretence about lack of al beeb bias . The false academic is a kid called Paul stocker . Since there was no one there to give balance I looked him up on twitter. Guess what? Anti brexit anti Trump and comments akin to a kidult like so much on that largely infantile site. Enough.

Very interesting, thanks. My comment to it is that I think most of the left-wingers do know they are doing it, but don’t care. Two examples come to mind immediately (there are so many…) – today
            http://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-40627847
Another seemingly senseless (accident?) loss of life at the hands of the US police, BBC comments:
‘Over the past few years the US has seen a series of civilian killings at the hands of police that have caused widespread concern and criticism.’ No mention of race, riots as a result etc, because this woman is white and Australian. I suspect there will be little widespread outrage or rioting.

The other example is the widespread media cover up of the details of this shooting:
            http://dailycaller.com/2017/07/05/coulter-immigrant-of-the-week-henry-bello-obotetukudo/

A great piece by Ann Coulter – not racist at all, but a really intelligent analysis of why so many immigrants fail to integrate into Western society and then end up as criminals, sadly often shooters. Of course the politicians and media don’t want to look at the truth because it doesn’t reflect their rosy world of multiculturalism.

Stuff, it is because the BBC make all female characters strong, that actually make news of a female Dr Who at best not news and actually just plain boring. In the Archers all the females are stronger than the male halves (well they were, I haven’t listened since the producers pushed Nigel off the roof); Inspector Lynley was always dependent on his cleverer working class female sidekick, even in Poldark boring old Aiden is reduced to smouldering eyes looking up while Demelza is the strong character. Again the fuss the BBC are making over a female appointment, surely someone’s gender shouldn’t matter.

      Dave,
I haven’t watched Dr Who for decades but if this new Doctor wears leather and offers enough flesh then I might be persuaded to take up where I left off in the eighties. Has anything of note happened since then? I’m sure that she won’t be a blue stocking academic. Anyway leather, flesh and plenty of pouting is just what the doctor ordered. I’m sure the feministas will be pleased with the increase in male viewing figures that my suggested formula will bring.

Just waiting for the BBC to report the shocking and terrible news that there’s been a fire at the Manchester Nasfat Islamic Centre, however now the politcal correctness enforcement squad we used to know as “the Police” have now upgraded this into being a Mosque – despite the fact it clearly isn’t. Local Muslims are convinced this was an ‘islamofaubik’ attack and therefore the PCES will treat it as if it is.

“A spokesman for the centre said there was no one at the centre at the time, and that they received a call in the night to say ‘it was being attacked’.”

Yeah because every arsonist phones you up in the middle of the night to tell you what they’re doing! Looking at the building its a scruffy wreck before it caught light so this might well turn out to be yet another self ignition for a Muslim group looking for a new building and a nice insurance claim whilst blaming whitey, and a snowflake press and government only to willing to believe everything they say !

This morning I expected the BBC to demonstrate what a responsible, globally respected, impartial broadcaster it claims to be and lead it’s news channels with the shocking news that The Labour Party lied through it’s dentures about wiping out the £110 billion student debt; that it’s whole manifesto was based on a fraud and the young people who had voted for it were misled and deceived in the worst possible way.

All I got instead was the news that Dr Who will now be a woman.

So all my news comes from here, with an anecdote or three from Guido and perhaps a glance at The Express occasionally.

    • Ian Rushlow says:

There is nothing particular pleasant about any of the ways in which animals are slaughtered, as a visit to even the best run abatoir will quickly confirm. Other important issues besides the actual method of killing include: hygiene; traceability; quality of life of the animals; the type of foodstuffs they ate. For most human beings who have ever existed, being able to obtain any meat-based protein at all has been a priority and a luxury – the notion that animals have to be slaughtered in a particular manner, or that certain plentiful and nutrious meats are off-limits for so-called religious reasons, is bizarre. The issue here is that meat which has been killed according to halal methods should be clearly labelled as such, so those who want to avoid it or those who wish to eat it can do so. At present, the majority of chicken sold in British supermarkets and a substantial percentage of the lamb (including most New Zealand lamb) is halal, without any legal requirement for it to be labelled as such. In fact, unless you are a vegetarian or eat only pork then you are almost certainly consuming halal meat on a regular basis.

By way of precedent, consider the current labelling requirements for most foodstuffs. We are told: country of origin; salt, sugar, fat levels; ingredients; additives; preservatives; whether it is organic; allergens; calorific value and so on. It is clearly believed by the powers that currently be that such information is important, yet on this they are strangely quiet.

If the process of producing ‘Halal’ meat adds to the cost or means you are supporting a way of life such as employing an imam who has to read a book to an animal that is about to die, but the animal does not understand it, or the words being read out. Then details must be added to the food labels – possibly with a picture of the imam (Shia, Sunni?), the version of the Koran read out at the time of the animals death (Wahhabism?) into it’s non-Arabic ears.

      Dhaka flooding: Why are there ‘rivers of blood’ at Eid? {bbc.co.uk sep2016}
As Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Adha, people in Dhaka have been sharing pictures showing streets flooded with blood-stained water. Nearly 100,000 livestock were sacrificed in Dhaka this year, according to BBC Bengali, mainly on the streets or at underground car parks in residential buildings. Goats and cows are bought from markets by Muslim families and slaughtered, to thank Allah for sparing Ishmael, after an imam has read verses from the Koran.

Question, when you buy Halal food, or any religious authorised food, have you submitted to the religion – have you agreed that it is right and righteous?

“As I look ahead, I am filled with foreboding; like the Roman, I seem to see the River Tiber foaming with much blood.”

MM – I feel something strange about the ‘reaction’ of Longtom about the picture you posted.
Firstly it is the first time he has chosen to post anything on this site.
Next apparently his young children were not only in the room with him but must have been watching what he was doing on his computer at the same time.
Considering that most posts here just contain the written word is it likely that children would be absorbed watching their father reading on the net?
What age are his children? Most would have to be in school during term time. If they are that young that they are not even in school they are less likely to be watching their father read to himself.

Rather smells a bit to me. I certainly don’t need to see images to know how horrific a particular scene must be, but I can say that watching a TV documentary about how animals are slaughtered in the UK in the early 80’s turned me instantly to be a vegetarian ever since then. I simply didn’t want to contribute further to it.

I don’t think you have anything to apologise for, and you did give a warning.

Totally agree. We should never allowed such barbaric practises in our country, nor allowed halal meat to be imported. You are spot on about the Adherents of this foul religion taking the country back to the Middle Ages. Yet the BBC , RSPCA, and the rest of the establishment of the country are letting it happen and in some cases actively encouraging Islamification. No chance of a referendum on whether we want any more of this lot in our country. Perhaps a boycott of any stores that sell this meat would wake people up.

      Diners ‘unknowingly eating Halal’ at Wembley {bbc.co.uk sep2010}
“Sporting venues across London routinely serve Halal meat to customers without informing them, it has emerged. … Many Muslims only eat Halal meat, which is from animals whose throats have been cut to drain them of blood while they are still alive and conscious.”

      What is halal meat? {bbc.co.uk may2014}
“The Islamic form of slaughtering animals or poultry, dhabiha, involves killing through a cut to the jugular vein, carotid artery and windpipe. … Animals must be alive and healthy at the time of slaughter and all blood is drained from the carcass. During the process, a Muslim will recite a dedication, know as tasmiya or shahada.”

      – BBC 2010 report omits incantation to Allah
      – BBC 2014 uses words ‘blood is drained from the carcass‘ rather than 2010 – ‘still alive and conscious‘ (some improvement as introducing stunning?)
      – BBC 2014 Stunning cannot be used to kill an animal, according to the ‘Halal Food Authority’ ( ‘Morality Police’? Plus they still want it alive and conscious?)?

Hold on here … go to the ‘Halal Food Authority – Definitions Of Halal‘ …..
… a Muslim will recite tasmiya orshahada … (not allowed by a non-Muslim)
      1. An animal should not be dead prior to slaughter
      2. A Muslim should perform slaughter (for Halal – MUSLIMS NEED ONLY APPLY!)
      3. Any flowing blood of the carcass should be completely drained
      4. Choice of modern and in vogue method has to be considered with caution and, it should be in line with Islamic principles

For Halal – MUSLIMS NEED ONLY APPLY – if this is true then it’s religious discrimination/privilege at the slaughter work place?

Does this mean that Warburtons and anyone on their approved list are implicit in positive discrimination? Interesting to find out.

      Charlie Martel,

I beg any animal lovers to avoid ANY halal meat. All meat involves a degree of cruelty to animals. but halal especially so.

      How strange…

80% of Halal meat produced in this country comes from pre-stunned animals.

0% of Kosher meat produced in this country (or anywhere else) comes from pre-stunned animals.

Yet all the ‘animal lovers’ here are obsessed by the ‘cruelty’ of Halal whilst tucking into their industrial meat slurry sandwiches.

      | eat meat because I don’t care. Neither does anyone else who stuffs themselves with a fat, greasy, pork sausage.

Pretending you’re somehow morally superior, because the animal you chose to torture for all-of-its-short-miserable-stall-bread-shit-stained-life had a slightly less excruciating last twenty seconds before being fed through the mincer, is the hight of hypocrisy.

If you care about animals; don’t eat meat. Simple as.

Everything else about “how it’s killed” doesn’t add up to much for a chicken getting it’s throat cut.

Charlie, I already refuse to eat such stuff. In a motorway station near to me there is a pop-up Chinese takeaway – I think its called Chopstix, with a sign saying their meat is Halal. Lost business for them, but I don’t suppose for one minute that they’re bothered. How dare these food outlets dictate what I eat !

UK plans age verification for porn websites from 2018
An NSPCC report in 2016 said online pornography could damage a child’s development and decision-making and had been seen by 65% of 15-16 year olds and 48% of 11-16 year olds.

Then the BBC link to a similar article from March…

‘Why compulsory sex education is important to faith schools and LGBTQ pupils’
The ruling is “really important” as it will equip young people with essential information on sex and relationships, Laura Hannah, the education and training manager for leading UK sexual health charity Brook, says.

I guess what is going on here is restricting children from discovering sex online and instead making it compulsory for sex to be taught by a Leftie teacher who will force their own view of what is normal for sex and relationships. ie. gay and trans relationships.

Taking this further I can see heterosexual online porn being heavily restricted in the future but gay porn available to everyone including the cbeebies website as that is “not porn but a show of love”.

    ‘Trump is deporting our (illegal for 21 years) parents’ {bbc.co.uk jul2017}
The four Duarte children were getting ready for school when their parents were arrested and taken into custody by US Border Control. The eldest, 19-year-old Francisco Junior, was left in charge of his 12-year-old twin sisters and teenage brother. The children – American citizens – never thought it would come to this.

    * Why is it missing illegal for 21 years in the title and text? @0:30 in the video.
    * You could change the title to ‘Trump is enacting the law of the USA’
    * How come the children aren’t asked “If a person breaks the law of a country, should they pay consequences?”
    – “If an American had illegally stayed in Mexico for 21 years, should the government remove them?”
    * “What did the parents do to try and gain legal status in the USA? What could they have done? Does the USA have a process?”

I do hope BBC Panorama ‘Trumps Fortress America’ will look at the history promised before Donald Trump ….
“In his speech in El Paso on immigration reform on May 10, 2011, President Obama declared that the fence along the border with Mexico is ‘now basically complete.’ (basically complete as opposed to complete?)…
Still, he predicted that many Republican opponents won’t be satisfied. …
‘They’ll want want a higher fence,’ Obama said. ‘Maybe they’ll need a moat. Maybe they want alligators in the moat. They’ll never be satisfied. And I understand that. That’s politics.’
‘Five years ago, legislation was passed to build a 700-mile double-layer border fence along the southwest border,’ DeMint wrote. ‘This is a promise that has not been kept. Today, according to staff at the Department of Homeland Security, just 5 percent of the double-layer fencing is complete, only 36.3 miles.(625 promised)'”

Check out the article to see the poles classed as a border – where people or motorbikes can get through. A quick review of other countries with borders wouldn’t go amiss on the show:

The parents have been in the US illegally for 21 years. They could have, at any time during that period, applied for legal residency and work permits that would have allowed them to stay. If the parents have been working in the black economy then they will not have paid taxes, yet they’ve obviously availed themselves of the local medical facilities when their children were born. Have the children also been educated at school during their parents illegal residency? So the BBC give us a one sided report sympathetic to the plight of the children being parted from their parents without considering the actions – or inaction – to address their immigration status. Typically slanted BBC “news”.

This leads to the obvious question, do the Saudi’s, (in view of their financing the development of islam in the UK) anticipate as many anti-islam “terrorist” groups in the UK as islam takes hold?
    http://www.newsweek.com/uk-report-terror-saudi-arabia-public-finding-618508

As we know from history, wherever islam goes, war and murder and mayhem is not far behind even if it is only ‘squabbles’ amongst their own sort, viz. sunni/shia.
I suggest that there will be, sooner or later, a ‘push-back’ from the British Public and, hey presto! we will have murder and mayhem on our streets – the worst sort of fighting: almost impossible for the State to deal with. First, all the street cameras will be blanket targeted, then highly organised raids on armouries and stores selling weapons……………….

In order to get a non-biased view of Brexit negotiations, I have to go to overseas broadcasters like Bloomberg, who today are very optimistic for Britain’s future after 2021, by which time both Brexit and the assumed transition period will be done with.
The BBC has never given a balanced view of Brexit, has always pushed the Remain and Pretend-brexit camps, and have edited their clips to denigrate May and extol Corbyn. Now they are running a glamour campaign on Amber Rudd, puffing up her successes, and using their clip of week, Amber walking into No.10. Is she the BBC’s choice for next Tory leader? she’s not the Tories’.

    bias

    poor quality
    scheduling
    standards of interviewing/presenting
    too much coverage
    too little coverage

Just as predicted, and now most of the media are peddling fake news that this was in fact a Mosque, when it was an Islamic Centre.
Already we have the Fascists out blaming whitey as usual:

Local Labour councillor John Flanagan said: “It is early days but if this was an attack the mosque it is a hate crime.”

It is far more likely that this was a self inflicted attack on a building which was pretty run down, for the sympathy of the Fascists and for a new building to be provided.

Especially probable given it was a Nigerian centre, and it’s not the first time Muslim property has been destroyed by themselves in order to secure something better! The claims made by the attendees are simply not credible.

A spokesman for the centre said there was no one inside at the time, and that they received a call in the night to say ‘it was being attacked’.

So ‘someone’ instead of phoning the Police or Fire, phones another person and tells them not that the centre is on fire, but that it is ‘under attack’ (who says that?) The alleged break in happened around the rear of the building which cannot be seen, so how would anyone know that someone was trying to ‘attack it’ .

Then there was this ridiculous claim :

Monsurat Adebanjo-Aremu, secretary, says this is the third such major fire incident in a year.

She says people have also urinated outside and two pigs’ heads have been thrown into the mosque during worship.

Note that she has now changed this ridiculous story and claims that there was one fire three years ago. If someone had ever run into Friday prayers and thrown a pigs head into the assembly it would have been national news, and the Political Correctness Enforcement Squad would have thrown every man into finding those responsible – for it to happen twice is stretching credulity past breaking point and where would you get a pigs head from anyway?

No reports of the people attending the place being hassled by anyone does not seem to add up to hostility from the local community either.

No doubt with the Fascists and the media so ready to believe every claim of waycism and Islamofauxbia the possibilty that these so called ‘attacks’ are in reality self inflicted for insurance and sympathy.

      Thoughtful,

Just as predicted, and now most of the media are peddling fake news that this was in fact a Mosque, when it was an Islamic Centre

Islamic Centres tend to be used like a Church / Church Hall; as a place of worship at certain times and for community activities at others. So it’s entirely correct to describe it as a Mosque.

Already we have the Fascists out blaming whitey as usual:

Local Labour councillor John Flanagan said…’It is early days but if this was an attack the mosque it is a hate crime.’

Erm, no mention of “White People” or ethnicity there. You wouldn’t be ‘projecting’ would you ‘Thoughtful’?

It is far more likely that this was a self inflicted attack… Especially probable given it was a Nigerian centre, and it’s not the first time Muslim property has been destroyed by themselves…

      Ah yes, you would.

Especially probable given it was a Nigerian centre

And you’re the same person who claims “There’s no such thing as racism”.

A spokesman for the centre said there was no one inside at the time, and that they received a call in the night to say ‘it was being attacked’.

So ‘someone’ instead of phoning the Police or Fire, phones another person and tells them not that the centre is on fire, but that it is ‘under attack’

Where does it say someone phoned him instead of phoning the Police or Fire?

What was that about “peddling fake news”?

      (who says that?)

Well you just did for a start: “It is far more likely that this was a self inflicted attack

The alleged break in happened around the rear of the building which cannot be seen, so how would anyone know that someone was trying to ‘attack it’

The Mosque is surrounded by houses. The rear of the building is in full view of several houses opposite.

You really haven’t got a clue have you?

No reports of the people attending the place being hassled by anyone does not seem to add up to hostility from the local community either… No doubt with the Fascists and the media so ready to believe every claim of waycism and Islamofauxbia….

      So to summarise:-

If an anti-Muslim attack on a Mosque isn’t reported by the media – IT DIDN’T HAPPEN.

Got to love how the bBC reports on the story of how quite a few Students voted twice at the GE:
Elections watchdog wants double voting rules tightened
Reports of people voting more than once in June’s election are “troubling” but there is little evidence of widespread abuse, the elections watchdog has said. The Electoral Commission said 38 MPs had highlighted people, including students, claiming to have voted twice, which is a criminal offence. It said individual electoral registers run by councils should be better joined up to help identify duplicate entries.

So the above is how the bBC reports on how Students have been reported for voting twice. However as this is the bBC they follow that up with this:
“Labour warned against making it harder for young people to register to vote.

Well it can’t have been that hard, with so many voting twice can it?

    Dear esteemed website.
I think I might be coming to the end of submissions of comments because I intend to limit my ingestion of al Beeb products to a minimum – which probably means programmes where Brillo is in charge , JRM is guesting and Dads Army repeats.

On another issue -webmaster – what has happened to one Halleys Comet who was posting yesterday ( think it about the new doctor who) but was found out by a colleague to be telling fibs about their background ? They said they were going away because they ‘ didn’t like right wing old men moaning all the time’ or words of a similar nature….

I suppose they’ll come back as some other beeboid spy.

Forgot to mention – watching RT news – showing Italian town mayors going on hunger strike in protest at central government/EU swamping them with illegal migrants straight off the boats. Wonder why no coverage on al Beeb ?

You don’t need to go – I gave up BBC brainwashing several years ago, but find it cathartic to keep posting every now and then, because I hear things through other media, about the awful BBC, and feel a need to vent my spleen occasionally.

Me too Fed Up et al. I used to think it was my duty to know what was happening in the world and pre the internet that meant the BBC. However these days the BBC is either no news (female Dr Who) or Fake News. I just about believe my local news when sadly someone riding a bike has been killed (although I wouldn’t rely on whose fault it was because in the BBC’s eyes it would always be the lorry/car driver) and I just about believed tonight’s the story about seagulls stopping the postmen working in Bridlington (but maybe it was just too hot?). If people link to stories here from about the world, I will try to read with an open mind – but really all I know (and do I sound like Donald Romsfeld?) that there is the stuff we know, and the stuff we don’t know and then there is the stuff that we know we don’t know – and that is usually what the BBC refuses to tell us eg re immigration, what is really happening in the Conservative Party, the case for Brexit, the fact that a few warm days in July doesn’t mean the end of the world, etc etc.

I must admit I also have to limit my time here because I hardly watch or listen to anything BBC these days so its difficult to come up with the bias when I only channel hop.

Same here Deborah – Most of my comments these days are of a generalist nature or a comment on someones comments. The fact is – is that since the General election (if possible ) the BBC has become positively rabid in their pursuit of all things pc and left wing. Most of the time these days I listen to classic FM . Its almost as if they want us to switch off – maybe thats it – so they can carry on with “the devils work” using the airwaves to issue instructions to their followers via “Radio Grenfell”

      Debora / Goat,

Thanks for the comment . I feel fairly defeated by albeeb / msm. At least with RT you know where you stand and they have different news values. Problem for me, like others here , is that I’m a bit of a news junky. I care greatly about Blighty and dispise what has and is being done with it .
And the only time we get to comment on it is in the EU vote which so many are seeking to undermine.

        Deborah – Goat – Fed…

Same here! Mrs Scroblene and I always used to turn on the 6:00 pm news and watch with a tincture, and now we never bother with the bbbc as the tincture is so much more interesting, and the blood pressure stays low enough for a frequent refill!

So it’s a win – win situation, no bbbc crap, and a long and loving chat with a lovely wife, and a few tinctures to lead us towards a good book each, or occasionally in my case, a few dips into a good ‘Genesis’ Youtube – preferable a long one…

Life is so much nicer without the bbbc.

My grand-daughter filled out an application for me ad my wife to go on “POINTLESS”.Although
pointless is partly amusing and they don’t expect the contestants to be entrants for the Brain of
Britain, they do ask questions on the application to see if you are not going to make a complete
    fool of yourself.
I have always wanted to go on MASTERMIND I have a few specialist subjects, the main ones being
VERDI and the NORMANDY CAMPAIGN 1944. But my general knowledge isn’t quite good enough to say
get more than 35% of the questions correct.
I would like to ask the BBC a question to the producers of “CELEBRITY MASTERMIND” What do some
of the contestants need to know other than their names to get on the show? We saw a lady this evening
who had won two gold medals at the Olympics who other than knowing what her name was, knew practically
nothing else. In a way it was rather like inverted racism by the diversity staff at the BBC who picked her.

Things didn’t go to plan on Mastermind tonight, did it? And it was a repeat which I am surprised they showed again.
The two older men did far better that the two young women. One of the women looked Asian and was a CBeebies presenter or something. However limiting her specialist subject to Jurassic Park films must have meant that she could answer all the questions – but not quite. She was also so bouncy that she was a pain in the neck. It was not racism on my part, she would have been irritating if she had been sky blue pink. The black female paraolympian – received 3 points over both sections – even worse than David Lammy I think. Her specialist subject was Arsenal Football Club (didn’t quite hit the right-on BBC spot and demand questions on the women’s team) I cannot remember whether she limited the specialist questions to a few short years but certainly there were no questions from say the 1920s. David Aaronovitch looked to be doing brilliantly and with some proper questions in the general knowledge (not the questions about Girls Aloud and Spandex that had gone before). Then suddenly he was thrown some googlies, those impossible questions for anybody but a true Mastermind freak. Those questions slowed him down and he came in second. But a greying male breakfast presenter (Tim somebody or other but I couldn’t tell you who) flew past David to win the award.
I remember reading on here once that an insider said that nothing on the BBC happens by chance. I always suspect that on quiz shows there are two sets of questions and that if, having had a proper education, you appear to be doing too well, the presenter, either via paper questions or those that appear on their personal screen, will suddenly go harder. If you are hopeless (and a 3 in any Mastermind is just that) then the questions suddenly get easier. Watch any quiz show and you can see when the questions change.

Good points Deb. I rather suspected as much when watching the infuriating Eggheads. There is always a choice of going first or second, and after the first couple or so, the questions appear to favour the resident team. My blood pressure is affected so I never get to see the end.

As for ‘celebrity’ quizzes or ‘Christmas specials’, most of the participants be they ‘personalities or sports people’, can barely string a sentence together without a script, so I never watch them.

A Tardis may become a useful accessory for the modern woman

“… whether you like it or not!”

Colin Baker (one of the rubbish Doctors – not Tom Baker who was a rather good Doctor Who) wheels himself out today in defence of his beloved BBC. He is quoted in the Evening Standard as saying “She IS the Doctor whether you like it or not”.

How very BBC. Can you imagine a commercial entertainment provider expressing such distain for the tastes of its paying customers?

And there were we thinking the show in question was light entertainment mainly aimed at the young. Turns out it is in fact some weird public sinecure which must be handed around among various identity groups.

I’m also taken aback by comments that this will provide a positive role model for girls – to grow up to be…. Time Lords? Really?

Mind you, as more and more young women are pressured into the workplace as a matter of public (and BBC) policy, I guess that ever more forty somethings will be realising their frustation at being without a family and then require their own Tardis in order to send their reproductive organs back in time.

What is it with the people who run BBC look north and their infatuation with Islam.
It’s rammed down our throats every other week. Anything to do with muslim’s or Islam has to be broadcast throughout the N. East.

Do other “local” BBC stations do this on such a frequent basis? Or is this just reserved for us pagans that live up north.

The bBC, Not the Nine O/Clock News and another Gerald the Gorilla story:

Today (As it does at least once a week) the bBC has aired another rise in Islamophobia story:
Finsbury Park Mosque fears rise in Islamaphobic hate crime
The chairman of Finsbury Park Mosque has warned Islamophobia has risen since the recent terror attacks in the UK.
Mohammed Kozbar said the mosque had experienced “a rise of hate letters, threatening letters… and something needs to be done about it”.

And here is what the bBC doesn’t want you to know:
Anti-Semitic crime rose 44 percent in Britain since 2014
Anti-Semitic crime in the United Kingdom rose 44 percent in the past two years, according to a new audit released by the Campaign Against Antisemitism. The 2016 National Antisemitic Crime Audit registered a total of 1,078 anti-Semitic crimes, including 105 that were violent — about one in 10. Only one of the violent crimes was prosecuted, according to the audit. In total, only 15 cases were prosecuted, leading to the conviction of 17 suspects, according to the Campaign Against Antisemitism.
