A Photograph Never Lies

Just adding to David’s post on J’lem (via The Commentator)….the BBC has a profile of each country and illustrates them with a photograph.

This is Israel:

And this is Palestinians:

You get the message….brutal Israeli oppressors armed with machine guns and tanks being heroically resisted by desperate, young Palestinains fighting for their freedom with all they have left to them…stones, bravery and determination.

How about that old colonial haunt Rhodesia…em…Zimbabwe?:

The Zimbabwe Ruins are the remains of a lost civilization.

Ah yes, Africans were great once, and civilised…probably just before the white colonialists arrived to mess it all up.

Lost civilisation my arse. The stones are all that’s left of a medieval Arab slave trading fort.

I think it’s the BBC saying, with their usual humility, ‘the history is settled’.

Back to the capital city business.

I see the country guide omits all the ‘key facts’ for the UK, so avoiding the capital city issue.

Of course, the UK doesn’t have a capital city.

That photo of the Israeli soldier reminds me of this one:

In fact the guy in the white shirt in the photo the BBC uses looks more Israeli than Arab to me. Who knows if maybe he was one of those Jews forcibly removed from Gaza?

I have tried without success to find the origins of this picture. It is as if the only media to use it is the BBC. This is surprising because it is clearly labelled AFP.

For Palestinians (and sometimes Israelis and foreign agitators) a favourite photo opportunity is to get right up into an Israeli soldiers face and shout. They will be surrounded by cameramen and photographers, of course, to capture the soldier losing it, if he does. If you look closely at the photograph you will see a cameraman between the soldier and the ‘demonstrator’. He clearly didn’t photograph this specific image because he is standing on the opposite axis. This is an indication that this particular confrontation was a set-up media event.

BTW judging by the tens of photographs, on the Internet, of Palestinians/internationals and evicted settlers screaming nose-to-nose with the soldiers this is not a particularly dangerous exploit. The IDF shows remarkable restraint.

Similarly, staged photographs of Palestinian youth ‘resisting’ without an Israeli in sight are very common. Photographers are brought to the picturesque sections of the wall for their photo opportunity.

In both cases, the choice of very-likely staged or set-up shots is a reflection of the integrity of the photographers and the BBC.

The BBC profile starts very dubiously – A densely-populated country. Israel according to Wikipedia has a population density of 371 pop. per km² That puts it behind Singapore (7301), Hong Kong (6396), Bahrain (1646), Taiwan (R.O.C) (634), Mauritius (631), South Korea (487), Rwanda (407), Netherlands (404) Lebanon (404) and a margin of error above India (368) and Belgium (361).

I don’t think any of these is labelled densely populated in their profiles.

Actually the whole overview shows the BBC obsession that Israel is defined by conflict. There is literally only one paragraph about Israel’s considerable achievements Israel has developed from an agrarian state run along collectivist lines into a hi-tech economy in the past 60 years. It has absorbed Jewish immigrants from Europe, the rest of the Middle East, North America and, most recently, the former Soviet Union and Ethiopia along the way.

Could you imagine this UK profile. The British Isles is defined by war. Since Roman times it has been involved with disputes both internally against Scotland, Ireland and Wales and with surrounding countries France, Spain and Germany. Currently it is at war in Iraq, Afghanistan in addition to troop deployments in Northern Ireland, Gibraltar, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Falkland Islands,Ascension Ireland, Germany, Balkans, Cyprus, Iraq, Ethiopia, Georgia and Diego Garcia. Other overseas deployments include training, exchanges and “loans” to armed forces in countries like Belize, Brunei, Canada, Kenya, Kuwait, Oman and Saudi Arabia.

Not a word untrue but what a false impression it gives.

Ah, now I the more obvious reason for the Beeboids’ hatred of Israel: the Jews abandoned the beautiful ideology of collectivism…..

(except for a few kibbutzim still doing it, I know)

‘Actually the whole overview shows the BBC obsession that Israel is defined by conflict’ – which is very true, but strange they never include the three wars between 1948 and 1974 which involved the Arab nations trying to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.

It’s a question of positioning. Israel vs. Palestine – big bully Israel persecuting innocent victim Palestine. Arab States vs. Israel: over 340 million people in 22 states with a land area of 13,000,000 square kilometres vs. 7.5 million people in one state with a land area (max) of 22,000 square kilometres. That makes the Israelis look heroic and we can’t have that.

The BBC and the Left want the Arabs to wipe Israel off the map and have a second Holocaust. These are some very sick, dangerous mentally ill people.

A left-leaning colleague tried crooked population density figures on me. I checked various Wiki sources and it quickly became evident these statistics are unable to discriminate between population density due to overwhelming use of high rise accommodation – Hong Kong, and Monaco, and the same population on the ground – Palestine.
According to an arab scholar at a US university, natch, Palestine is the second most populous place on earth – or the fiftieth, depending on how you fiddle the figures.
The BBC – lying to you every day – at your expense.

Actually photographs often lie and the BBC is as guilty as any media of publishing images that are wrong and misleading.
