NAUGHTIE AND THE BROTHERHOOD….

As we know, the BBC narrative is that the Arab Spring is a “good thing” and the Muslim Brotherhood are a kindly and progressive group….as a Biased BBC reader observes;

“Heard this this morning on ‘Today’…Muslim Brotherhood moderate, democratic, nothing to worry about…..Jim Naughtie not ask difficult questions nor dig too deep…. Egypt’s largest Islamist movement, the Muslim Brotherhood, announced this week that it is forming an alliance with one of the country’s oldest liberal groups, the Wafd Party, a union that could prove to be a powerful force in the September election. Dr Abdel-Moneim Aboul-Fotouh, a senior figure in the Brotherhood who has declared himself a presidential candidate, gives his view of what an Egyptian parliament could look like. “The democratic process will go on.”

‘Consensus between the parties and lead to balance…not just between MB and Wafd but between 12 parties’ the MB rep. told us….Naughtie does not mention who the other groups are.

Naughtie asks ‘Will extreme Islam prosper’…..answer…’Nothing shall happen…except progressive democracy and justice….moderate and tolerant.’ Naughtie…’Copts have nothing to fear then?’ ‘No, I myself defend them….Christians have same rights as Muslims.’

“Well that’s OK then…..except I later read this rather different picture …….“and then this.Oh, and
this.
Why is it is almost AS IF the BBC is wilfully sanitising the Brotherhood, surely not?

Hint to the BBC, the clue is in the name.

And if the name’s not a big enough giveaway, the BBC’s making the exact same stupid mistake that clueless leftists made with Iran during the 70s. Take the NYT’s unbelievably naive column ‘Trusting Khomeini’, for example:

    http://select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F30C13FA3A5D12728DDDAF0994DA405B898BF1D3

You have to pay to read it, but it includes such masterful insights as Khomeini’s portrayal in the West as being “More even than any third-world leader, he has been depicted in a manner calculated to frighten”

and “In recent months, before his triumphant return to Tehran, the Ayatollah gave numerous reassurances to non-Moslem communities in Iran. He told Jewish community leaders that it would be a tragedy if many of the 80,000 Jews left the country”

and “Iran may yet provide us with a desperately-needed model of humane governance for a third-world country. If this is true, then indeed the exotic Ayatollah may yet convince the world that “politics is the opiate of the people.”

not to mention: “What is also encouraging is that his entourage of close advisers is uniformly composed of moderate progressive individuals…[T]hey are widely respected in Iran outside religious circles, share a notable record of concern for human rights”

there’s also no chance his moderate secular routine was just a front to fool clueless leftist journalists: “To suppose that Ayatollah Khomeini is dissembling seems almost beyond belief.”

and of course, if you are wary of Khomeini, you’re obviously some toothless hillbilly who lacks Falk’s sophisticated sensibilities: “Thus the depiction of him as fanatical, reactionary and the bearer of crude prejudices seems certainly and happily false”

In short, the exact same stupid, colossal mistake repeating itself without any hint of having learnt anything from the last time.

This has to be the most ridiculous leftie meme, that the Muslim Brotherhood is all sweetness and light. I suppose it just goes to show how stupid and how brainwashed most lefties are. However, I will agree with the deluded idiots that the Muslim Brotherhood are keen supporters of democracy. Right up until their first, and only, democratic victory because they won’t need democracy after that.

Loved the 20/20 hindsight that now tells us that the Muslim Brotherhood swung the revolution in Tahrir Square.
Why a woman in aheadscarf said it the other day-so it must be true!
Are we all to forget the oft-repeated soundbite from all the MSM back in February ,that they had f**all to do with events as they unfolded aprt from a Rotary Club like provision of cold drinks and a muffin or two?
    Of course we are.
How many third world children are working all night under BBC spotlights in ensuring that the sequins don`t fall off their new embroidering of the Arab Spring tapestry?
Maybe Primark could insist on a little rainbow or bunny girl logo for the left hand side at the very bottom of their new creation!

Of course, the Islamic sympathiser, and veteran of Tahrir Square, Naughtie, will be oblivious of this website:

Sadly it being Saturday, our Jim will be in his favorite box at the D`Oyly Carte and snoring under a programme until the opera starts up.
Maybe the overnighter, first class to Edinburgh for a cheeky malt or even Provence if the weather stays grim.
Whatever he said in the week was then-this is now-and he`ll not remember much of it, unless he sees it on his programme as he snores on.

Look, Naughtie knows what’s what here.  He knows the the prospects of the “Arab Spring” (what dildo invented that meaningless little phrase?)  producing (democratic) sweetness and light are vanishingly small.  He knows that when everything settles down there’ll be another collection of thugocracies/theocracies corrupting British universities and other parts of the body politic.  He knows but he doesn’t care.  His only cares – which reflect those of the BBC in general – include the progress of warmism, left wing authoritarianism, state “education”, the EU, immigation (preferably Moslems from Turkey when it accedes to the EU) etc.  Truth, accuracy, impartiality?  So old-fashioned dont’cha think?

Well, to be fair, the BBC is having a beastly time of it out… ‘there’… East of various weekend villas in Tuscany anyway.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/theeditors/2011/06/what_does_it_take_to_be_a_jour.html

Though there does seem a difference between the on the ground risks run between the Naughties in Cairo hotel bars, and others less City-centric in locale.

Though it is looking like nothing gets lost in the translation when the latter ‘brief’ our fearless, linguistically-hampered guest correspondents on the message they happily convey back to Blighty.

Not nice for journos to be snagged by dodgy regimes (though aware there may be more to this yet to emerge), but on the other hand it is perhaps the BBC appreciating that when you ‘take a view’ and often gild it to extremes, there can be consequences when the ‘brand’ is considered tainted.

    “The Muslim Brotherhood and Weiner”

    [Extract]:

“Far more disturbing than the salacious details of Weiner‘s dalliances is the fact that apparently his mother-in-law is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.  Furthermore, Huma Abedin’s brother, Hassan, ‘is listed as a fellow and partner with a number of Muslim Brotherhood members.’  Hassan works at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS) at Oxford University.  The Egyptian Al-Azhar University, well-known for a curriculum that encourages extremism and terrorism, is active in establishing links with OCIS.
How is it that the Western media, with its hourly analyses of Weiner, missed this salient point, yet Arab news sources revealed this connection?  Walid Shoebat, formerly with the PLO, explains that Saleha Mahmoud Abedin, a professor in Saudi Arabia ‘belongs to the Sunni movement’s women’s division known as the Muslim Sisterhood.’  During the recent uprising in Egypt, which resulted in Mubarak’s removal, ‘a special women’s unit within the Muslim Brotherhood served as ‘mules’ to deliver messages and acted as messengers for the terrorist group.'”

Why do I have an image of Naughtie getting a rickshaw ride around Tahrir Square, sitting on a rubber ring( so those cobbles don`t cause him to upset the Camp coffee he so airily sips!)?
I see  his nosegay on the end of a bamboo pole held to the nose at a jaunty angle by a toothless yet enigmatic young buck, as he doffs his feathered pith helmet to those that pass to enjoy the return of the white suit that Martin Bell left in Tatton-rather carelessly, perhaps?
A quick dunk of the shortbread as he files the report. The one that will bring healing balm to all us worrywarts that fear MB. Oh the trifles…do I see truffles there Yasmin?

I dreamed it and sincerely believe this to be a faithful if impressionistic account of Jims saunter round that bit of the Empire Nasser hoped would be guided by the likes of Jim!
It therefore is a fair record of my feelings…that ought to do it!

I couldn’t but help be reminded of the attitudes of INBBC and Naughtie here:

“While President Barack Obama and his administration continue to portray Egypt’s oldest radical Islamic group, the Muslim Brotherhood, as being more akin to the Rotary Club than to Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda, many counterterrorism experts believe he and his administration are making a big mistake.” (emphasis added.)“Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood Con Job Fooling U.S. Officials”
