As others have commented the BBC report is a lie, pure and simple. Most of the families oppose the Mosque as do most New Yorkers, the fact that the drugged up scum at the BBC can’t find any opponents says a lot of the BBC.

Also, Barry’s comments just reinforce the opinion that Barry is a Muslim agent to many Americans.

Mr Obama acknowledged “sensitivities” surround the 9/11 site, but said Muslims have the same right to practice their religion “as anyone else”.
“Our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable,” Mr Obama said.
    ==============================================

That strikes me as a non sequitur, not to mention a straw man argument.

If there are sensitivities, surely it follows that one should be sensitive and NOT build there. Why should building in that particular sensitive place be equated to the freedom to practise religion? If I want to open an off licence in or near a mosque am I going to start shouting that the freedom to trade must be preserved and protected and it is in jeopardy because some people object to an off licence in that particular spot? Is Obama thick, dishonest or just partisan? I find it oddly amusing that the much derided Sarah Palin is the one who has got it and summed up very simply but right on the nail what the issue actually is.

What was the name of that building (looks like something out of Blade Runner) in Baghdad that got pwned during the invasion of Iraq? We should build a church there. No, wait, that’s a bad analogy to 9/11. Sure, they were both military attacks (even though one was a legitimate military target, and the other a deliberate civilian massacre), but the Operation Iraqi Freedom one had nothing to do with religion.

Obama is just not up to the job of President. Flyover America , the part I am familiar with, will never understand his tortuous reasoning. Too clever by half. This is what  will be the downfall of the liberal elite- an excess of cleverness over common sense.  The pendulum may be about to start swinging back. And not until it is becoming an unstoppable force will the BBC and it’s fellow travellers have a clue.
Hopefully by then it will be too late for all of them.

Yes – it was typical of the BBC to drag in that Sarah Palin opposes the mosque – their clear implication is that “only the crazies oppose.”.

It is far more significant that 70% of Americans oppose.  Now that Obama has joined in,  people will focus more on the issue – and I would not be surprised to see that figure increase.

Also that a lot of “moderate” Muslims oppose.

Obama was wrong to say that they have the right to build on land they own.  The fact appears to be that they own only one of the 2 buildings.

Utter crap, of course.  Just more evidence about how detached The Obamessiah is from the rest of us.  I can’t believe He said that we all must understand the sensitivities of those who suffered and lost loved ones on 9/11, and then immediately went on to say that they’re wrong.

Like I keep saying, I would support a mosque for the reasons the President gives.  Except He’s lying (either to us or to Himself) about what this actually is.

It’s not like the 92nd St. Y, which is how all the US media keeps describing it.  Hands up all those who believe that this Islamic center, named specifically to celebrate Muslim power, will have anything like the diverse cultural programming they have at the Jewish center.  Which DOES NOT have its own synagogue, I should add.  Anybody think they’ll have a great chamber music series, or feminist poetry readings, or anything not 100% approved by Mohammed?

A mosque, yes.  A celebratory religious outpost, no.

Why do the NY mega-mosque supporters/proponents never address why the intended official opening date of the building is scheduled for 11 September 2011, precisely 10 years after the original attack?

And why is it that the funding of practically every large mosque proposed in the UK/US is shrouded in mystery?

I’ve never heard the BBC even allude to the above two points.

And why on earth did the BBC make this the first item of the news this morning ?

Did ome Muslim among the editorial staff see promotion of this story – without the necessary background information – as a way to crow over people ?   While the other useful idiots assented ?

But the good news is that this Obama cultural cringe will probably clip a few more points off Obama’s ratings.  Will be into the 30’s soon.

<!– google_ad_section_start –>Is a mosque and community centre for all at Ground Zero a genuine attempt by Muslims to reach out to other faiths?

Or is it a triumphant declaration of the supremacy of Islam, Muslims having “cleared the ground first?”*

The latter point of view would have more credence if it was going to be built right on Ground Zero, but it will be built a couple of blocks away. Still, Islam has a long history of erecting mosques on the ruins of the structures of other religions. It’s one of the most unsavoury aspects of Islam. The mosque will apparently be gigantic.

World Have Your Say has followed the issue. Here’s the latest programme, one of the guests being the wife of the imam responsible for initiating the project:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/worldhaveyour…._gr.html#218994

I think this comment puts the debate in stark clarity:

    20. At 2:15pm on 27 May 2010, PilotDan wrote:
A Mosque built in Mecca dedicated to, and honoring, the 3,000 innocent lives lost on 9/11 and the thousands of lives lost to Islamic extremism, opened to all faiths, would better serve the Islamic faith, improve relations with other religions and go light years toward repairing the image of Muslims

To listen, scroll down to August 9th. It will be available to download for another few days:

    http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/worldservice/whys/whys_20100809-1904a.mp3

Many complaints over the mosque have described it as “insensitive.” Perhaps that is too mild a judgement. Perhaps it would have been far better to have left Islam completely out of any commemoration of this major terrorist atrocity, which after all was caused by Islam.

Yes, the centre will include a memorial to 9/11. Does this not oblige anyone visiting it to commemorate 9/11 under the shadow of Islam? Is this not an extraordinary example of the hijacking of people’s emotions, memories and mourning?

Or am I just being paranoid and is it an innocent, genuine and humble expression of the desire on the part of Muslims for reconciliation with those of other faiths? (What about those of no faith, and what about gays – who are now threatening to open a gay club right next to the mosque?)

  10. TrueToo says:

The memorial to the victims of Flight 93 – the flight that fought back during 9/11 – will be in the shape of an Islamic crescent and will point towards Mecca:

    http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas….11-victims.html

    And this is really chilling:

Every place where the terrorists are memorialized in the crescent design, they are placed in the symbolic Islamic heavens (the crescent and star parts of the design). Every place where the 40 heroes are memorialized, they are depicted as symbolically damned, cast out of the symbolic Islamic heavens. One example is in the Tower of Voices, where an Islamic shaped crescent soars in the sky above forty symbolic souls that literally dangle.

I’d say people are fully justified in their suspicions of the motives of those behind the Ground Zero mosque. The evidence of the relentless desire of Islam to dominate everyone and everything is pretty compelling.

The mayor’s rehetoric is shameful-with 200 mosques in nyc, muslims certainly have freedom to practice their religion.
SInce part of one of the planes crashed through the roof of this building, how is even considered to be sold to a radical imam with a pseudo agenda of peace & building bridges? Why did the landmark committee rush to this decision?
The peaceful mosque employs this imam with terrorist ties, who does not recognize hamas as a terrorist org., who blames the US for 911, will not disclose financial backing & plans to open the peaceful mosque on 9/11/2011.How were these facts not considered in allowing this sale to go through?
The specific choice of this location, and the fact they refuse to budge from it speaks volumes about their true motive. This site was chosen attempt to humiliate, to disrespect & dishonor the families of 911 & the souls who perished that horrible day.
It boggles the mind how an imam with this background, has been able to get as far as he has, and has the support of our officials, from the mayor to the govenor to the president. Hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil.
THE MAJORITY OF NYC DOES NOT WANT THIS. LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE

What this monstrosity and islamist slap in the face to America is saying to Americans:

Listen you infidel vermin, we destroyed your temple to capitalist success, we killed the Jew bankers and money men and the infidel profiteers, we showed the world that the so called leader of the free world had feet of clay.
Now we celebtate our clear victory over the great satan by stamping our ownership on the very spot where our jihad martyrs masacred the infidel and destroyed your so called symbol of power.

You see folks this aint about freedom of religion, this is about spitting in the face of the great satan, and the very first thing they will do when they open the doors is celebrate the suicide killers and their victory and they will do this on the very aniversary of the very hour and day of the crime.
The fact is that the majority of muslims support the jihad, they support violence to achieve supremacy, they believe in the smothering of the infidel and they believe that islam will crush the west.
The mosque is a challenge to America, it is a direct slap in the face provocation and failure to act now means that islam has achieved another stunning victory against the USA, this mosque is a critical point in the historical story of the USA and if the islamists triumph then America is lost truly lost and if our lead nation is lost then we are all lost.

When Barry was elected I just presumed the Americans had got themselves a black Tony Blair but with Chicago political training. In other words just about principle free and able to change his politics as the focus groups demanded. In other words an astute political operator and formidable opponent for the Republicans.

However watching Barry’s press conference about the mosque the other day all I could think was how useless he is at politics ! The correct response to this is to pass the buck in that it is a decision for the New York city government not POTUS then to make a few soothing noises. Instead it was like watching a right on lefty President of the student union of a 2nd rate Polytechnic making his first political speech !

A question for those of you who know about American politics – Can Barry be challenged for the democratic nomination at the next election even though he is a sitting President ?

    • John Anderson says:

Yes, Obama could be challenged.  Like Lyndon Johnson was being challenged by Robert Kennedy, for example.

There has been some talk that Hillary Clinton might run.  Obviously she is keeping quiet right now – but if Obama’s ratings continue to plummet,  she could say it was her broader duty to the Dem party to salvage it from an electoral disaster, especially if this November is a wipe-out for the Dems.

Team Obama had IMHO stolen the Dem nomination from Clinton in 2008 by all manner of crooked tricks in the states where they had closed caucuses – Clinton beat Obama in most of the open state elections.  Time for payback.

At the time of 9/11, I wrote that 9/11, far from being a disaster for Islam, would turn out to be a publicity coup for it. So it turned out.

We are now in a similar situation. If the GZM proponents win their case, and build the mosque, it would be seen in the wider Islamic world, that allah had yet again granted a tremendous victory to Muslims. If OTH, the said mosque has to shift its location, or is cancelled altogether, then CAIR and all the other Islamic groups will be crying “foul”, and seeking sympathy – Islam is being victimized.

Either way, this crisis is going to be milked for all it’s got.

The real aim of the controversy though, like 9/11 itself, is to keep Islam right up there on the national and international agenda, i.e., making Islam pre-eminent, and the focus for all attention. Obama, willingly or unwittingly, has made this objective a reality, turning a NY city issue to an international one.
The more this controversy rages and polarises the America people, the greater a publicity disaster for the West this, and great propaganda boost for Islam.

It would appear that we are going to lose this battle either way. Not necessarily so. What some of the opponents have to do, is to seize this opportunity to tell the truth about Islam. That is, use the propaganda opportunity that has been created by Islamists to defeat their real purpose, of publicising for Islam – not just stop it but turn it against Islam. If some of the opponents can do this, the GZM proponents will themselves halt the controversy.

Apart from being a victory monument, the GZ mosque is essentially propaganda  for Islam.

  26. DP111 says:

The GMZ controversy is not about the GMZ mosque, or even the triumphalist proclamation of Islam on the site of its first North American victory, but an opportunity for keeping Islam preeminent in the public eye. That is always the objective for all Muslims. Obama may backtrack now, but that is not the point. He has succeeded in raising the profile of Islam to the international plane, which was never there in the first place. He can now withdraw his comments, as the his main purpose has been accomplished.

The best way forward is to seize the opportunity that the GMZ proponents have created to raise Islam, and use it to expose the reality of Islam. As they say, “never let a crisis go to waste”.

BBC working tirelessly to defend the President from criticism over His comments (and “no-comment”) about the Ground Zero Victory Mosque and Cultural Outreach Center.  Plus a mini-game of “Spot the Missing Word”.

Others have already pointed out how He screwed this one up, so I’ll just point out the serious bias in the BBC’s defense tactics.  What’s funny is that the criticisms from Republicans they print are basically exactly what I’ve said here about the issue.  Of course, the “unwise” bit also appears in The Obamessiah’s triangulation on the issue, so the BBC uses a Republican to actually support the idea that the President really isn’t sucking up to Islam like His critics say.  Funny.

What’s worse is whom the BBC quotes for the defense.  First there’s the dopey Democrat Party chairman:

“This wouldn’t be a controversy if it was a proposal to build a synagogue or a church,” Democratic party chairman Tim Kaine said on CBS. “We don’t prefer people and we don’t punish people based on their religion.”

In which religion’s name were all those people murdered again?  I mean, come on.  And the Beeboid who put this together obviously agrees with this sentiment, or they wouldn’t put up such a fatuous statement to defend the President.

Even worse is that the BBC then brings in a quote from an anonymous White House source from the JournoList-infested Politico website, and then quotes JournoLister Nate Silver from a political website only the far Left media pays attention to.

The BBC is still working hand-in-hand with the “unofficial Obamessiah campaign“.

That article’s use of polling evidence leaves a lot to be desired too:

“While polling suggests a majority of Americans oppose plans to build the mosque, a Fox News poll released on Friday suggested 61% supported the developer’s right to build the mosque.”

That poll comes in two parts, and the second part (the one the BBC quotes) needs to be seen in context:

      36. A group of Muslims plans to build a mosque and Islamic cultural center a few blocks from the site of the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York City. Do you think it is appropriate to build a mosque and Islamic center near ground zero, or do you think it would be wrong to do so?
            30% Appropriate
            64% Wrong

      37. Regardless of whether you think it is appropriate to build a mosque near ground zero, do you think the Muslim group has the right to build a mosque there, or don’t they have that right?
61% Yes, they have the right
34% No, they don’t have the right
