Classic BBC Cringe

The BBC’s Wendy Urquhart enters the realms of “beyond parody” in this butt-clenchingly PC report about the anniversary of the Argentine invasion of the Falkland Islands (or “the Falkland Islands or Las Malvinas” as they are apparently known when they’re not simply “Las Malvinas”) :

A solemn day in Argentina. Thousands gather to pay their respects, but the issue of sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, or Las Malvinas, is clearly one that’s far from settled. President Cristina Kirchner told the crowds that it was a time to remember those they’d lost but it was most definitely not a time to forget about Las Malvinas and vowed to keep pushing for ownership of the islands…

Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands, or Las Malvinas, on April 2nd 1982…

The Falklands, or Las Malvinas, lie just 300 miles form the coast of Argentina and have been claimed at one time or another by Britain, France, Spain and Argentina…

The two nations appear to agree that war is not the answer, but Argentina wants Las Malvinas back and President Kirchner is determined to make that happen.

This week’s From Our Own Correspondent also included an Argentinian perspective on the Falklands War. Nothing from our brethren islanders with their unpleasantly positive views about Margaret Thatcher, though. Funny, that.

This issue really makes make angry. I’m very critical of recent UK military interventions – I think the invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan were horrific, despicable and pointless acts by our government.

However, I see the Falklands “issue” as an open and shut case. There is NO issue about sovereignty here. Defending and reclaiming the Islands was entirely the correct thing to do.  I am still amazed I meet critics even now who will slate Thatcher over the issue, and in particular over the Belgrano as if the two recent invasions of the Middle East had not occurred.

Yes the beebs do make the Belgrano out to be a symbol of British underhanded tatics and Thatchers bloodlust , like we sunk a pleasue boat not a warship posing a clear threat and a viable target .

And of course the BBC at the time of the Falklands couldnt resist reminding the Aregentines that their bomb settings were wrong.  I lost friends in the Falklands.  Now they are saying little about Labour’s latest poster showing Cameron as Gene Hunt in the 80s.  F*cks sake BBC Britons from England, Wales, Scotland & Ireland lost their lives in the Falklands.  Yes we are friends now with the Argies, as we are with Germany; but at the time we were enemies.  Give BRITAIN, this great land that has given so much to the world a break.

I think portraying Cameron as Gene Hunt does him a big favour. Hunt was originally written as a baddy but the producers found he was very popular with fans of the show who identified with his ‘old fashioned’ views on crime and punishment.

The BBC also reported the build up to the attack on Goose Green, thank god the Argies thought it was disinformation.

The BBC’s hatred for the UK is sometimes beyond belief and beyond what should be acceptable for the state broadcaster. Why is it that on almost every issue the BBC side with the ‘wrong’ side?

LoL, hatred for UK? I think you’ll find your hatred of the BBC is leaving you rather blinkered. Funny though

“..Argentina wants Las Malvinas back” Argentina has never had “Las Malvanas” so how can it get back what they never had. The Falklands were under British rule before Aregentina existed. Just because they are close to Argentina does not make them part of it.

By this logic the Canary Islands should belong to Morroco.

Why is it that on almost every issue the BBC side with the ‘wrong’ side?

Because it is run and staffed by ignorant, cowardly, guilt-ridden, middle class pseudo-liberals?

@NotASheep – they are reading from page 52 of the “Dogmatic Leftists’s Orthodox knee-jerk response manual.” – The rule on this page states:

Rule #2754 – “In any discussion that pits Britain (or England) against any other nation, always take the other nation’s side unless that nation happens to be called the U.S. or Israel, in the latter case, always blame the U.S. and/or Israel”.

Renaming seems to be current BBC vogue.  To make sure they are ‘right on’ with the argies in the 24 hour news they used Las Malvinas far more the Falklands.  They are also changing the description of their political masters.   Labour are no longer that word of hate ‘Socialist’ they are now the much softer ‘Social Democrats’.  The Labour/BBC spin machine is at work.

There was a similar report about mineclearing in the Falklands a week or so back when the reporter talked about the decent Argies having laid their minefields carefully and gien the UK detailed maps etc. Bollocks! The only way we knew there was a minefield at Fox Bay West for example was looking for the beer bottles marking the perimeter. Our platoon ran through a minefield by mistake one morning!. The Argies have given detailed maps 20 years after they laid the damm things and even so we still don’t know were many are. They threw them out of choppers at random in some areas hence our Battalion sniper WO had to go round shooting cattle from a chopper because they’d stood on a mine. Most of the beaches were mined and the waves MOVED the mines so any maps handed over were useless. especially around Stanley and Fox Bay. We used to see the penguis hop on shore, hit a mine and blow up as some of the bigger ones were the weight of a small child. Dear BBC – stop lying on behalf of this country’s enemies….

Well said, I actually walked into a minefield down there by mistake, the mines did move with the sands. The tossers at the BBC wouldn’t know that as they are too busy chasing 9 year old rent boys through Hampstead Heath.

The Island is “just” 300 miles from Argentina.  Yeah, I’m sure you can see it on a clear day and through a telescope all those ‘Malvinas peones’ under the British yoke imploring their compadres to free them.

The Spanish discovered Argentina and we discovered the Falklands.  That might account for their respective status’.  Unless you’re a typical pro anything not British BBC journalist that is.

Actually this ‘unbiased report’ highlights perfectly how the BBC has degenerated and more importantly it shows ordinary people this degeneration.

Most people do not want or require a tub thumping bash patriotic union jack waving BBC, what the majority want is a trustworthy BRITISH broadcaster that lays out the real facts and the real issues for us.
The fact is that Argentina has no legal or moral claim on the Falklands, there never was a legal claim and the UN confirmed this. The moral claim was lost when the murderous fascist Junta used the Falkland issue to whip up popular support for its dying regime.
Does the BBC represent British interests when it peddles a wholly fraudulant Argetinian claim to the Falklands?
The BBC has a duty to report the facts from a British perspective and it fails in this duty again and again, they prefer to present an emotional case instead of a case built on facts, the Argetine claim is a wholly emotional one and the British claim is based wholly on reasonable and legal facts.
Not once did the BBC mention the decades of petty dirty tricks played on the peaceful Falklanders and the nasty and spiteful attempts to punish and isolate the islands.
We know for a fact that the UN has ruled in favour of the rights of the Falklanders and the British claims, we know that the Argentine claims are false and have been proved false time after time.
Yet still the BBC ignores the facts and concentrates on the emotional case!
When the BBC actively hides the true facts behind a smokescreen of emotion, when they misrepresent the situation to reflect the false reality of the Argentinian claims to sovereignty, when the BBC takes an anti truth and an anti British stand then the BBC has lost its right to represent the British people.

All we want is the truth, all we require are the facts. Is that too much to ask?

The BBC and fellow travellers refer to Argentina wanting the Falklands back, but the islands have never been Argentenian. The UK would have a stronger claim to Calais.

In the same way the Beeboids lie about the re-unification of Ireland when that island has never been a single nation – except arguably when it was part of the united kingdom (Irish MPs attended Westminister, Ireland was not a colony)
