WHISTLE A HAPPY TUNE…

It’s quite a coincidence, isn’t it. No sooner does Lord Mandelson re-installs his puppet PM McDoom in the bunker than a series of good economic news stories suddenly permeate the media, and the BBC in particular. Yesterday came the interesting news that “the recession is over.” The Today programme followed up on this this item this morning which whistled a happy tune on the recovery after “the downturn” and now comes the news that sterling has risen to a new high against the Euro. Mandy is working overtime. Anyone got an update on the unemployment figures?

I posted on the open thread that NIESR is a left-wing ( never described that way by the BBC ) , fanatically pro-EU Institute.
If they are right, this has been the shortest recession in World history.
This month's unemployment figures and the second quarter government figures may tell a different story.

I was wondering whether they were left-leaning. But having looked at their website, you can tell they are definitely pro-EU and get quite a few grants from them. ie between 2004-7 received 200000 euros for research into the 'European forecasting network European Commission' or 44,316 euros for 'Financial integration in Europe and the propagation of shocks European 6th Framework with DIW, IfW and Ghent'. These are just 2 examples of their 'work'.
I have no idea what either of them entailed, but as they are both something to do with the European Commission, you can bet your mortgage they are very pro-EU.

Sorry the depression has not really got into it's stride yet.
"Quantitative easing" will lead to inflation. The debt burden on individuals and companies has to be substantially reduced and as I have said before there is the mother of all commercial property crashes around the corner.
Just wishful thinking by our leaders or an attempt to part us with what money we have left.
Expect the stock market to bounce upwards until the autumn and then fall off the cliff.
If you have savings keep them in cash funds and ignore all temptations.

Knife crime is apparently down yet again, as per Ceefax. Ho! Ho! Ho!.

You really would think they'd have the sense by now to leave that one well alone.

No, but I noticed some think butch female beeboid was spouting shit about knife crime having fallen this year. So doubt figures straight out of the Peter Mandelson book of fiddling.

I despise the BBC as much as the next person, but you have to give them credit when they actually get something right.

Gotta hand it to Eddie Marr, he did a good interview with the lefty student windbag Sarah Kavanagh on behalf of the "Unite Against Fascism" group about the egg attack against Nicvk Griffin.

It was like listening to a schoolteacher berating a spoilt pupil and showed her up for the hypocritical, undemocratic minority nazi that she is.

Yep, it's a push alright. First item on Jeremy Vine on Tuesday was a feature on the mythical green shoots.

Can anyone explain why the BBC had a 7 minute long headline story about the sale of Ronaldo on the 6 o clock news? I wonder if its because of those green shoots and the economy booming again.

Yes, and the BBC provides a video now with our Great Helmsman being given the same sort of 'populist' applause as the BBC (courtesy BBC reporter, Jon Leyne, is giving to Ahmadinejad- see Iran election report BBC 'Middle East page').

So, given that any Labour putsch against Brown has failed for now, the BBC goes back to its role of propagandising for the Great Helmsman, and his great wisdom in all things, including football.

BBC has (on its 'politics' page!):

"Prime minister Gordon Brown paid tribute to Christiano Ronaldo and said he believed Manchester United Sir Alec Ferguson was doing the right thing,"

(-followed by BBC video of Great Helmsman providing more of his great wisdom on football, also on 'Politics' page.)

I recall the last recession had one start and about fifty distinct "recoveries".
If the BBC and HMG say it's so … then it's Bullshit! Grade A!

Silly question I know but I'd have liked to listened to the item the ratass linked to. I get a page but no player. Can't even see it in the source code.
That's in the latest revision of Firefox & the detested IE

I've had this prob with BBC a couple of times lately. Is this the dreaded Iplayer I'm missing? Can't say I'm gonna install another giant player app just to watch crap. Not even sure they'd let me as I'm not UK. Or maybe that's the reason I can't see it but I thought us foreign devils got to hear radio even if TV's a no go

Yes, the sale of Renaldo suggests an economic recovery…. in Spain !
I noticed one ManU supporter said he hoped the owners wouldn't use the money to pay off debts, says it all really.

What an irritating little drone she was. The irony of her getting people to vote, then her egging their choice of candidate to deny him a platform will doubtless escape her – forever.
