'Jonny' Dymond on Today this morning (07:14), reporting from Normandy (over the sea from Rye),
asks people in France what they think of the EU. "Where there's a crowd, there's a candidate", he says. In a flash I think, "I bet it's a Socialist" & it is!! In fairness, 'Jonny' then goes on to interview another candidate. A Gaullist? A National Front supporter? Yeah right!! No, he interviews a Green! His tax-payer funded grand tour will continue over the next few weeks, where he will no doubt interview many more Socialists and Greens from across the length and breadth of the continent.

    Sunny Rye accepts Euros ?
Well, there are pubs in Southall that accept Rupees !
Maybe tying in our currency to the Rupee, a currency from a growing and dynamic economy would be a smarter move than tying us into places that don’t even drive on the left !

In fairness many places in France have accepted the pound for years.

My complaint is why a twat like Dymond is still working for the BBC.

If you don’t know why, Google Dymond and drugs

May I say, as a resident of Rye, that is complete rubbish? At least, if local businesses take Euros, they’re awfully quiet about it. You’d think it would be a bragging point.

Hotels perhaps. Aren’t they in the business of taking all kinds of currency? But the tea shop and the book shop and the sweet shop? Maybe they do, but I’ve never seen any evidence of it. No matter what the Chamber of Commerce says.

The only local business that advertised he took euros was a bakery in New Romney. The proprietor was French. And it’s gone out of business.

What a coincidence that Rye should crop up – I was looking at houses for sale around there only yesterday. Am reassured to hear from Rye resident. It’s bad enough handling all the coppers and tap washers in sterling.

I would take Euros. For goodness’ sake. They are nearly worth a quid now anyway.
