SUNDAY AFTERNOON….

Operation Save Gordon is in full throttle today and nowhere is this more evident than on the BBC. I refer you to the main news portal which leads with Postie Johnson declaring of Gordo that “… he is ” better than me or anyone else” as prime minister.” Well, certainly better for the Tories! However if you scan down the stories under Postie’s declaration of undying loyalty to Brown, look at the other BBC headlines. “Blears denies criticism of Brown”,Clarke in smears row action call” and “Prescott rounds on Brown’s critics”. Notice the slant? Not just biased – outrageously biased.

Anyone care to speculate why it is that the prima facie evidence that Barroness Uddin has committed fraud – as exposed on the front page of today’s Sunday Times – has been completely ignored by Aunty?

I have just listened to the most shockingly biased edition of the World at One.

We heard from Alan Johnson (clipped from the Marr show), two Labour backbenchers called, I think,Burden and Palmer, then interviews with Labour’s Steve Pound and Jack Straw.

No fewer than 5 Labour MPs.

    Not one single Tory.

The only voice belonging to a Tory before I switched off was that of a local councillor in the midlands who was being asked if her patch was “more Ken Clarke or David Cameron”.

    No substantive political points allowed.

Then a local LibDem was given free rein to attack the Tories.

    Bloody disgrace.

How do they get away with it internally? Surely some big wig occasionally runs their eye over the balance of contributors – particularly at election times?

Tom – you are absolutely right about todays’ World at One. But the fact is this is simply BBC editorial policy – and rules over election coverage makes no difference. As I repeatedly point out the BBC has become the press office for Gordon’s government and there are absolutely no mechanisms in place to prevent this happening. The complaint’s system is a fix; an exercise in letting off steam for concerned members of the public which the BBC not only ignores with impunity, but seems to revel in ignoring so long as they can safely place the complainants in a box marked ‘right wing’ or ‘Conservative’.

Marr mentioned in passing the Mail’s “Clarke: Ed Balls must be sacked” story – as he had too, given that he was reading out all the day’s headlines. His tone was dismissive even before he added “It’s a little more abstruse than that when you read inside”. Move along then, nothing to see here.

“Gordon Brown is better then me.” said Alan Johnson.

What an admittance. If I had to say that I’d go home and immediately slash my wrists.
