Mysteries (human)

Fashion Mysteries.

Why does everyone swoon over Michelle Obama’s hideous unflattering outfits?
Sarah Brown is endearingly dowdy; go Sarah!

Beeboid fashion mysteries:

Outside broadcast gear; Casual sporty anorak over formal collar and tie. All wrong.

Jeremy Bowen- cool dude/Country and Western/Brokeback Mountain. Denim shirt, drainpipes, fancy belt buckle, leather jacket. Occasional scarf /cowboy neckerchief (red)

You’re not a cowboy, cool, or a dude. Or a reporter.

Boris Johnson (almost Beeboid) at the olympic closing ceremony; fashion icon obviously Sir Patrick Moore. Awesome.

General Mysteries

  • It has been said that Alan Sugar has a built-up chair in the boardroom to make him taller, so why does he let the back of his chair be so high that it dwarfs him? (bit like “Dennis Waterman” in Little Britain?)
  • Why MMGW? (What about wimmin-made global warmin’?)
  • Would it improve the QT audience for the ‘lads’ if the BBC audience questionnaire included a cup size section?
  • Does the Data Protection Act cancel out the Freedom of Information Act?

These are some of the overarching mysteries of our time. (Some are more loosely connected with the BBC than others.)

    Re Boris Johnson

    I was in our local shopping centre once and saw a man in a suit, not at all young, not thin, but he stood out. I thought to myself;

“Wow! That guy is wearing a really, really good suit, well cut, tailored.”

It was only then I realised it was Sir Patrick Moore, there to do a book signing.

The BBC will love Obama’s new-speak, politically correct, new euphemisms lampooned here by Jon Stewart on the Daily Show :

I’m so glad you said that, Sue. I suppose I can understand the drooling sycophancy of the meejah for the Obamessiah, but to single out his wife as a fashion icon is simply bizarre: Michelle Obama dresses like a bag lady on acid.

As for Sarah Brown, it’s good to see the wealthy supporting Oxfam.

  7. Martin says:

GCooper: What is the fascination with these ‘wives’ all the time?

I don’t give a shit about any of them. You see all this horseshit in the media, usually written by fat dumpy short haired ‘wimmin’ who go on about how these are strong women in positions of power.

Er, excuse me? They drop their knickers a few times for some stupid bloke who then marries them and HE gets into a position of power.

How does that make these dopey bitches feminist icons?

When I see a battalion of female soldiers taking on the Taliban to defend Muslim women in Afghanistan from rape or beatings etc, THEY will be feminist icons. I expect hell will freeze over first.

    @Martin

The scariest consequence of this thinking is exemplified by hillary clinton.

Her campaign was founded on her being “experienced” in contrast to obama but this supposed experience was derived solely from having been the wife of a President. That was it!

  9. Martin says:

gordon-bennett: Yes and they had the utter cheek to slag off Palin for not having any experience, despite the fact SHE worked her way through the system on her own, didn’t have to give head in the back of a car to get promoted and became State Governor on her own merit, clearly a job that carries more experience than a corrupt spiv lawyer from Chicago or some demented bunny boiler.

I reckon by this time next year most Americans will be totally pissed off with ‘the one’

The Al Beeb website has a story (I can’t seem to find it now) about Michelle Obama visiting a school in Islington. There were lots of photos of her hugging muslims, chinese etc. Didn’t see any white faces.

The tone of the story was so sychophantic, it made me want to vomit.

I can only find this feckin CBBC link to it now (LOL):

Gigits: Yes that’s the place where she spouted on about how ‘she’ is a great role model for girls.

No Sarah Palin is a good role model for girls. Get off your arse and do it yourself. Don’t marry some spiv corrupt lawyer from Chicago who then claim that you’re a good feminist role model.

Sarah Palin is a good role model. I’d give her one as well. And her daughter 😉

I hate to say anything ungallant, but if Mrs Obama is a chic fashion icon then I’m George Clooney. She’s a big, ungainly lass, with a ghastly taste in fashion and massive shoulders. She looks like an American footballer in drag.
Sarah Palin, that’s more like it!

  17. JohnA says:

I thought Justin Webb was bad enough during the election.

But he is even worse now. The function of the press – and of the TV channels – is to try to hold Governments to account. What’s the phrase they use – Talking Truth to Power ?

Heaven forbid Obama grants a private extended interview to Webb or Frei. They would be drooling so much, Chris Matthews-style, that we would not be able to hear their questions.

I recall this interview with a Hamas leader – the sort of stuff we ought to be getting for all the money we are forced to pay the BBC :

I think Palin is vastly overrated, especially since she lost her campaign fashion allowance and all the professional hair and makeup consultants that went with it.

I’m sure her campaign coach turned back into a pumpkin as well.

  20. Martin says:

Sourdough: She never had that before the campaign and she’s just gone back to being a good State governor.

Palin isn’t overrated. The corrupt spiv Chicago lawyer and his halfwit Vince Cable look a like are and they are showing it.

I can’t wait for North Korea to launch their ‘satellite’ um I mean Nuke. What will the one do then?

  21. deegee says:

It pains me to say it but Justin Webb was right. Obama is a rockstar and media interest in the woman he sleeps with comes with the job. What a pity the interest is in her clothes, something marginally related to her ‘job’ as 1st Lady and not in her outrageous, racist, anti Americanism.

I have no doubt that if Mrs. Obama asked the Queen when she first became proud of her country she would say something on the lines of. “at birth”.

Weren’t you the one saying over and over again that Americans were too smart to vote for Obama? That McCain was a dead cert? We could drag up some of your election campaign nuggets of wisdom..

I’m with Sue , on this one . There was ridiculous emphasis on the WAG’s appearance/dress .
That said , Sarah Brown did look “endearingly dowdy” – I was almost in love . Be still my beating heart !
Michelle Obama dressed like a mid-level Chicago politico’s squeeze , but her and HM cuddled each other , so she can’t be that bad .
Besides , she’s broad in the beam and therefore good .

    Sarah Palin – now we’re talking !

Keep your mitts off her Martin ! I saw her first !

    BS.

BBC bias on this one for Michelle Obamas fashion, do me a favour, total scraping of the barrel.

Deal with bias and stop this nonsense.

Utterly pathetic, I expect better of BBBC, if this was about someone you approved of it would be a totally different story.

Richard Lancaster: Obama hardly had massive landslide. Over 50 million Americans didn’t vote for this arsehole.

Not only that he had almost the whole of the MSM on his side and faced no tough questioning. In fact the media just smeared Palin all the time.

The Americans are now seeing through ‘the one’ He’s an idiot. A man that can’t string two words together without an autocue present.

I have no idea why the media fawns over Michelle’s looks. I would never say this about a person unless it was to put a fallacy to rest…but she is ugly with a capital U!

She has a face like a cash register. I keep expecting that lower jaw to spring forward with a “ding” at any second.

And now back to the heavyweight political comment…

We could use some of this humor on our side of the pond. Everyone is still on eggshells about the Obamas. Even the Republicans are afraid to let them have it! It’s so boring.

What did you all make of her appearing in the Czech Republic dressed to look like a waiter or a housemaid?

I wonder if Matty Frei liked the image. You know how he was waxing lyrical the other day about the “glamour” of The Ones.
