Did you see their stomach-churning coverage of the “militant” Kuntar’s return? The bit that really irked me was the BBC’s statement that “Kantar had been in jail since 1979 for the deadly guerrilla raid in which he killed the child, her father and a policeman.” It was not a guerrilla raid. It was an act of mass murder, in which this fiend smashed the head of 4 year-old Einat Haran on beach rocks and crushed her skull with the butt of his rifle. Kantar is given a heroic welcome by the scum in Lebanon and all the rotten BBC can do is to suggest that if Israel had never imprisoned Kantar there would not have been the war in 2006. Israel is always to blame.

The problem is beyond the license fee. BBC World is the commercial entity which feeds the mothership off sales of DVDs and overseas programme syndication. Worse, the Foreign Office gives grants for propaganda…er…news broadcasts in other countries, including the US.
If the license fee ended tomorrow, the BBC wouldn’t shut down on its own. There would be a move to subsidize it entirely out of the government budget, which means other taxes would have to get put into place to pay for it. I hate to sound like Atlas Shrugged here, but there is too much at stake for the BBC to just go away if the license fee ended. They’ll just do like in Canada.
That’s why it’s more important to cause a drastic change in editorial policies (or in the way the BBC actually follows those policies) and hiring standards at the BBC.

If I’m correct, C4 is funded by the govt? If so, the above option might force the Beeb to become more level headed. The only thing I like about BBC is the live, uninterrupted coverage of Match of the Day football.Otherwise the license fee needs to be scrapped ASAP. I have a simple question for the BBC and the Left.
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU??
In about four articles leading up to this one on the subject the BBC only referred to Kuntar’s role in a “guerrila raid” without mentioning that he smashed a 4 year-old girl’s head against a rock, while CNN, the NYTimes, MSNBC all referred to Kuntar, in various ways, as a man who did just that. The reason they did so was to present the facts to their readers that have made the Israeli public so revolted by Kuntar and hence conflicted about the deal–a very salient point of the story. The BBC might claim that the reporting on what Kuntar actually did was “emotive”, but in fact it was highly newsworthy in the context of the overall story. But the Beeb never once reported the facts. In today’s story, they finally provided the “claim”, made by Olmert, who said “Woe betide the people who celebrate the release of a beastly man who bludgeoned the skull of a four-year-old toddler,” the first time the BBC even referred indirectly to what happened. But they never had the journalistic integrity to report it as fact, and their deliberate omission appears calculated to make sure their readers don’t judge Kuntar and Hezbollah too strongly. It’s a disgrace.
It was stated several time in the report that the whole of Lebanon rejoiced, turned out to welcome him home, day of celebration etc etc.
Isn’t Lebanon one of the moderate states in the area, with a sizeable population of Christians?
And what of the two Israeli soldiers captured during the war, whose bodies were returned in this “swap”? They were captured alive and are now dead; it is therefore safe to say that they were murdered by their captors, in cold blood. How brave. How typical.
The biggest and unanswered question for me in this affair is how anyone working for a “News” organisation that prides itself (?) in asking awkward questions of the UK, US and Israel did not voice the obvious.
What happened to the two unfortunate Israeli soldiers kidnapped from their own country that saw them delivered back in coffins while the Israeli’s were delivering back “live” murderers?
When did they die? How were they killed? and the BBC’s favourite term….were they “tortured”?
All these questions fail spectacularly to surface and be compared to the treatment of the scum being freed.
You only have to ask yourself what would be said about coffins coming back from Guantanamo Bay.
While I’m at it I must say that the Israeli’s are providing their enemy with far too much by insisting on paying any price for the recovery of dead soldiers. Much as it can be applauded for their humanity compared to their enemies it provides much too good an opportunity to these in-human bastards to kidnap and kill in order to extract what they want. It will inevitably lead to more deaths of Israeli’s not less.

On a much more serious note. The reports neglect three important points that go beyond ignoring the brutal murders that kept him in gaol thirty years.
1) Kuntar is a Druze, arguably Arab, definitely, not Muslim. Hizbullah is a Shiite Muslim, Arab organization – an important note in sectionally divided Lebanon.
2) Kuntar undertook the ‘mission’ on behalf of the P.L.F. (Palestine Liberation Front) of the P.L.O not Hizbullah.
3) Kuntar was only 16 or 17 yrs old when he led the attack and has spent most of his life in gaol. In that time he married and divorced and gained a university degree (and a few extra kilos).
Late breaking (for the BBC): Apparently leading Palestinian moderate Mahmud Abbas congratulated the family of Kuntar on his liberation.

I too was appalled at the BBC coverage of this child killers release. I am so relieved to find a website like this that actually says alot of what I have been thinking about the BBC for a long time.
I am not alone – far from it by the look of things!
The BBC is a left wing political organisation with global ambitions – global ambitions that I have to pay for under threat of prison if I refuse. What other so called democracy on earth does that?

He is a child killer, full stop. It’s not Israel’s interpretation or position, it is a fact. Why qualify it? Disgusting.
Very frequently I will watch coverage of an issue and think, ‘Well, at least BiasedBBC couldn’t possibly have any complaints about that.” I look at this site the next day and you are doing just that. It’s becoming predictable and doesn’t necessarily have to have anything to do with the BBC’s coverage.

On the morning of March 11, 1978, Mughrabi and her Palestinian Fedayeen unit of eleven members, including one other woman, landed on an Israeli beach, killed an American photographer named Gail Rubin and hijacked a taxi, killing its occupants. They proceeded along the coastal highway shooting at traffic along the way. They next hijacked a bus and later a second bus, from which the passengers were transferred to the first one. The bus was finally stopped at a police roadblock. A shooting battle ensued. Eventually, Mughrabi blew up the bus which became a large deathtrap of fire. Many of the passengers were killed. In total, Mughrabi and her team killed 37 people. Some 71 people were wounded. Mughrabi and several other attackers were shot by Israel’s future Prime Minister, Ehud Barak.” An evil woman? Not according to Israel’s “partner in peace” Fatah; Azzam al-Ahmed, a senior Fatah official and close associate of PA president Mahmoud Abbas, called Mughrabi “the first Palestinian woman to carry out one of the most courageous operations in Israel” and said “we want to turn Dalal’s funeral into a national wedding, a major celebration. I note that whilst imprisoned by those evil Israelis Samir Kuntar was not exactly badly treated. “During his imprisonment, Kuntar married an Israeli Arab woman who is an activist on behalf of militant prisoners, but divorced her. While they were married, she received a monthly stipend from the Israeli government, an entitlement due to her status as a wife of a prisoner. Also during his imprisonment Kuntar graduated from the Open University of Israel in social and political science.”

Back to the issue of ‘the whole of Lebanon’ celebrating; according to Wiki (if it’s to be trusted), 40% of the Lebanese are Christian. Would they be celebrating?
I couldn’t help noticing on the News (and I use the word loosely) at Ten that, while Sky were giving justifiable prominence to the worst unemployment figures for 16 years, the BBC were giving ejaculatory coverage to the shock news that there are illegal immigrants working in Southall!

I wasn’t familiar with Samir Kuntar but this is what it says on Wikipedia about the attack:
‘Samir Kuntar led a group of four PLF members who entered Israel from Lebanon by boat. The group members…all belonged to the PLF under the leadership of Abu Abbas. The group departed from the seashore of Tyre in Southern Lebanon using a 55 horse-powered motorized rubber boat with an 88 km/h speed. The goal of the operation was to attack Nahariya, 10 kilometers away from the Lebanese border. They called their operation the Nasser Operation’.
I, and all those viewers and listeners you complain on behalf of are able to make up our own minds about a man who killed a child in the way he did.

I think the point is that we couldn’t – at least not from the Bowen report on the news.
There was an oblique reference to killing a child, but what’s important to know – so we can properly understand why Kuntar is ‘viewed by Israelis as a monster’ is that he dashed the poor child’s brains out on a rock.
I, like you, had to go to wikipedia to find that out.
The BBC report was a kind of euphemism.
It left out the key fact that explains why this individual is so significant.
