  • Dr William McIlhagga writes,

Not exactly bias, but pretty funny. John Simpson today (18th) has an article about Afghanistan headlined “Resurgent Taleban. John Simpson asks if the war with the Taleban can be won.” (link.) If you do a
search for “resurgent taliban” on the bbc website, you’ll find a preview of Newsnight, 20th July 2006, in which John Simpson talks about a “resurgent taliban”.

    It’s John Simpson’s yearly resurge.

  • Melanie Phillips on the interconnections between all the BBC’s Hamas “experts”.
  • Hat tip to commenter “holiday in hamastan” for pointing out this guide for children on the events of September 11 2001. In a page entitled What happened? it says that:

On 11 September 2001 armed people took control of four planes that were flying above the US.

Following the links to another page called Why did they do it?, here is the BBC explanation:

No-one can say exactly why the attacks were carried out.
But, the way America has got involved in conflicts in regions like the Middle East has made some people very angry, and the hijackers are likely to have been from this group.

The US thinks a group called al-Qaeda is behind the attacks. Al-Qaeda leaders have in the past declared a holy war – called a Jihad – against the US. As part of this Jihad al-Qaeda members believe attacking US targets is something they should do.

When the attacks happened in 2001 there were a number of US troops in a country called Saudi Arabia, and al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden said he wanted them to leave.

  • Commenter “pounce” writes:

On this day when the BBC informs the world it has to be just a little more impartial, they report on a story from Afghanistan where a suicide bomber murders 3 people as well as himself. So on that note what do you think the headline for said article should be?

    Suicide bomber kills 3.

3 people killed in suicide bomb attack

    Suicide bomber strikes Kabul.

Well that is how any impartial news agency would report such a story . So just how do the BBC report on the above in light of its quest to report impartially?

      More lies from Al-BBC….

“There are already concerns that Gaza’s 1.3 million residents could face shortages of food and other essential supplies in coming weeks because of an Israeli blockade of routes into and out of the territory.”

Al-BBc doesn’t, of course, whose “concerns” these are. They don’t mention that Gaza also has a border with Egypt. They also don’t mention the fact that Hamas, the genocidal thugs elected by the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip, have as their goal the complete detruction of Israel. The simpering, pro-Islamist hacks at Al-Beeb can’t be bothered to ask why Israel should even bother to open it’s borders to a people that desire it’s destruction. What other country in the world would supply aid to those who would happily kill it’s inhabitants.
The same hacks also don’t seem to want to question how it is that Hamas can happily afford weapons and ammo with which to kill Jews and secular “muslims” and yet can’t feed their own people. But why should Al-BBc bother with facts when we know that many of their operatives actively support the islamists and their aims.

This has to be the most disgusting thing I have ever seen from the BBC. “The US is sure that Bin Laden caused the terror attacks”???!!!???

There are no words to describe this vile bit of brainwashing and abuse of responsibility towards children. I cannot imagine any possible way anyone from the BBC (or a turd polisher thereof) can defend this.

Dumbing it down for the kiddies? Absolute crap. Qualifying Bin Laden’s complicity in the murder of nearly 3000 people by saying “The US is sure” rather than “Bin Laden financed, supported and ordered” this barbarous act is far worse than a lunatic Rosie O’Donnell spouting lies on US television. This is a government owned, citizen-financed-by-law, supposedly responsible news organization. You can’t speak the truth? You’re feeding the lie that is fast becoming the equivalent of Blood Libel.

The US is sure that Hitler caused the holocaust.

This makes Hitler the main target for the US military.

He also dislikes America because he thinks the US helped enemies of his religion – the Jews – during wars in Europe.

Saudi-born Bin Laden sees all Americans as enemies because they seem to take Israel’s side.

The British Broadcasting Corporation it’s hatred of the US and subtle pro Taliban propaganda.

      Afghan villagers answer your questions
Nearly two years ago, BBC News website readers put their questions to people in a village north of the capital, Kabul, where the Taleban had destroyed many homes during the civil war.
      …………………..
Inflation has gone up and food costs more in the market.
A bag of flour used to cost 900 Afghanis ($19) two years ago, today it costs 1400 Afghanis (US$30). Five kilograms of vegetable oil used to cost 200 Afghanis (US$4) two years ago, now it costs 340 Afghanis (US$7). Beef costs more too – from 120 Afghanis (US$2.5) for a kg of meat two years ago, it has now gone up to 200 Afghanis (US$4).
      ………………………….
(Q)It is often argued that Afghanistan was peaceful during the Taleban rule, and that after their fall, the country has not enjoyed the same level of peace and stability. Do you agree? Do you see the presence of foreign forces important for the future of Afghanistan or should the Taleban be invited to participate in a broad national government?
      ……………….
There is a big rumour these days that the US is actually helping the Taleban to keep the war going. The Taleban were created by the US http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/6763865.stm

Yet again the BBC promotes the vision that the Taliban are a just cause. That during their reign of terror peace ruled the land. I’m sure that I’m not the only person to have noticed that the BBC quotes prices in dollars? Dollars BBC the last I looked the British used Pounds so just who is this story aimed at. (And before some smart arse answers the question was raised by a Yank. The last para (Above) was asked by a Muslim from the Midlands of the UK. Which begs me to ask the question just who is the target audience for the so called terrible state of Afghanistan. Britian or America?
If it is America what is the subtle message the BBC is sending. That Afghanistan is a failure, That it is an Islamic country and that life before the invasion was all Honey and roses. In otherwords is the BBC saying the world should pull out. Maybe this quote from the article sums up the BBCs insidious message to the American people.
“The thing is that if you invite the Taleban to join a broad-based national government, there will be no need for foreign troops in the country at all. It would not be such a bad idea, though I wonder how the Taleban would react to such a proposal. It would be a good idea to declare an amnesty for all the indigenous Taleban and bring them into the mainstream of politics.”

The BBC the defender of Islamic terror.

      Mr Preiser

You’re correct, of course, but where does it lead? Certainly the BBC feeds the revulsion many Americans now feel towards all things British. Many of you will believe that’s fine — the more clear water between you and the Great Satan the better. Those who disagree seem deeply disinclined to do anything about it aside from a nice long whinge every now and again, which is very British.

On the rare occasions on this blog when someone actually recommends action, the typical reflex is to reach for false choices. The site owners will mutter unconvincingly about censorship and libel and twitter about ‘incitement.’ The rest of you will pout about not wanting a criminal record, or plead time pressure and shuffle off to put the kettle on.

You can rationalize anything, but you ain’t fooling anyone. How much time do you all think you have?

In a report about a UN report on the rising numbers of refugees worldwide, the BBC insert this paragraph:
The figures released by the UN do not include some 4.3m Palestinians (including those born in exile) displaced since 1948 as a result of the conflict with Israel.

      1) If the UN report does not include these figures, why feature it in an article devoted to the UN report?
      2) Where are these figures from then?
      3) Why is it presented as a fact with no attribution or the usual caveats e.g “The US is sure that Bin Laden caused the terror attacks” or “Israeli police say rockets hit Northern Israel” etc.?

The whole article is littered with he “UN refugee agency says”, “The report says” etc. except when it comes to the “Palestinian refugees”. Then it’s the BBC who says it, without saying that it says it.

Palestinian propaganda – It’s what they do.

Every Sunday the BBC takes a Have Your Say topic dear to its heart and splashes it all over TV, radio and its website. This Sunday, it was Hamastan:

(I tried to link to it but I could only get an older programme. I think they are having technical difficulties.)

The programme could hardly have been more slanted in favour of Hamas. Alistair Crooke was allowed to ramble on at length from Beirut on how unfortunate it was that the West was not keen to back Hamas. And there was some relief agency guy talking about difficulties in supplying Palestinians. But the star of the show was the studio guest in London, one Dr. Azzam al-Tamimi, a Hamas member if ever there was one, though he was not introduced as such by the sly BBC, but simply as the Director of the Institute of Islamic Thought.

Fatah was not represented, unless the occasional Fatah-supporting e-mail or brief caller is considered adequate by the BBC for purposes of debate.

So the BBC is living up to expectations, yet again , in its support for Palestinian terror. I expect the BBC to continue to throw its considerable weight behind Hamas. That’s because I’ve come to have really low expectations of it.

Here’s Tim Sebastian laying into Tamimi in a fascinating 2004 interview :

      http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/hardtalk/3985403.stm

Sebastian tries to pin Tamimi down over his support for suicide bombing of Israeli civilians, and Tamimi tries to slither out of his grasp.

There’s nobody of Sebastian’s quality at the BBC these days.

Not so well done Natile Solent who is being more than a little churlish in not giving me any credit for exposing this (see my dozen posts on the subject on threads below) but far more importantly not giving any prominence to the BBC working hand in hand with Hamas advocates without infoming its readers/listeners/viewers of the bias of the source. The BBC has been engaged in this type of misinformation for years accross all its interview/discussion formats Question Time, Newsnight, Today programme, ….

Exposing this form of dishonest journalism (what I belive pounce likes to refer as the BBC and half the story) should be one of priorities of this blog … so far Natile has given it very little prominence.

Oh yes, C-BBC, that rotten U.S. screwing up the Afghans lives! Check out this from Amnesty International: Grave abuses in the name of religion

Foreign journalists visiting Kabul after the arrival of the Taleban have filed various reports on the beating of women by the Taleban guards. The Guardian newspaper on 4 October 1996 published the following report:

“The young woman was carrying her baby, her two friends walking beside her. All three were veiled, their faces completely hidden from view. Suddenly a passing car braked to a halt and two men jumped out. From the style of their turbans, wrapped round their heads with one end loose and hanging almost down to the waist, it was clear they were the Taleban from Kandahar.
Each was brandishing a stick. They set about beating the women on the legs as their arms rose and fell, they shouted that the women should never come out in public dressed in such immoral fashion again. A few inches of bare leg were showing above the women’s ankles between their shoes and the bottom of their pyjama-style trousers.
The woman with the baby staggered and swayed beneath the blows, desperately trying to stay upright. None of the three dared to utter a sound as the sticks whipped their legs. Then the men got back in the car and drove off.
The incident lasted less than five minutes, but it was sufficiently brutal to leave the women quaking as they limped silently away.”

Any mention of this on C-BBC, to augment comments about the increased price of flour thanks to the nasty U.S. neo-cons?

The BBC, its love for the Taliban and half a story.

      Taleban capture Afghan district
Taleban rebels have captured a district in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar after days of fierce fighting. Afghan forces say they pulled out of Myanishen district as a tactical move. Correspondents say the militants have taken a number of districts over the past couple of years but have managed to keep control of only one.
      http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/6766495.stm

So the BBC who love to opine about the strength and character of the Taliban say their heroes have taken a district in Afghanistan which kind of substantiates their “We have to get out” stance. So the question I have to ask is just where is Myanishen district and how big is it.
Well here is a list of every district in Afghanistan
      http://www.statoids.com/yaf.html
      Nope no Myanishen district there.
I know lets look at the map of districts in Afghanistan.

      Click to access afghanistan02.pdf

Well I count 13 districts in the Kandahar region. But no Myanishen district.
      Let me just check that again;
      http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/89/Kandahar_districts.png
Nope still 13 districts in the Kandahar region. And no Myanishen district
Hang on the BBC is telling me the Taliban have captured a district in Afghanistan. But no such district exists do they refer to a smaller area in the region. One so small it doesn’t appear on any map. How about the hamlet of Myanishen .Now doesn’t that say much about the strength of the Taliban and the support they get from the BBC. You know the support which berates the use of Airpower as a means of allowing the ideological masters of the BBC in which to remove the one means they have no defence against.

EU also pays to keep Hamas’ Gaza consitutents in food & drink leaving Hamas free to do what it likes to do best.

In some of my following posts i’ll try and share soem insight into the real primary target of the Hamas/Hezbollah/Iran/Syria Axis and their European & American lobbyists

      *clap clap clap*

That latest post from Melanie Phillips is heavy going.

I’ve had an idea regarding the anti-Judaism of Hamas.

The Jewish conspiracy represents on a dim level the existential awareness of the inconcievable. In other words, there is much in life we cannot control and much more we have no knowledge of whatsoever. When this known unknown bites us for some reason, we look for causation, and in the case of Hamas they blame the conspiratorial Jews pulling the strings behind the scenes.

But what if the thing pulling the strings is in fact existence.

“The true object of aggression is the unknowability of existence.”

Is it not common in the Arab world to blame anything that goes wrong on Israel? For the Jews are deemed to be the arbeiters of a hidden reality and are subsequently the targets of displaced aggression against reality.

The BBC reports from Pakistan over the Rushdie knighthood.

More anger over award to Rushdie
There have been more protests in Pakistan over Britain’s award of a knighthood to author Salman Rushdie. The assembly of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) passed a resolution saying the honour was part of a move to “hurt the feelings of Muslims.
      http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world…sia/ 6766569.stm

      and here are a few more examples of hurt Islamic feelings in the NWFP region of Pakistan;

      Pakistan Christians demand help
Christians in north-west Pakistan are demanding government protection following threats of bomb attacks if they do not become Muslims.
      http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world…sia/ 6663305.stm

Yup those Christians sure put the fear of Allah into those Radicals.

CD and film shops bombed in NWFP
More than a dozen shops selling music CDs and films have been wrecked by explosions in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province.
      http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world…sia/ 6623833.stm

CD wow best watch out selling those BBC epics..

Bomb kills 22 at Pakistani rally
A suicide bomber has killed at least 22 people and injured Pakistan’s interior minister at a rally in North West Frontier Province, police say.
      http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world…sia/ 6603751.stm

      Nasty,nasty rally.

      Bomb fears close Pakistan schools
Several schools in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province (NWFP) say they have closed for two days amid rumours of bomb threats.
      http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world…sia/ 6390997.stm

Alice Cooper eat yer heart out.

It appears that the idiots the BBC defend as offended by Salman Rusdies award, get offended at the slightest provocation. Be it Schools for girls, A rally a video or even a minority faith living in the region. Muslims just cannot accept the fact that some people have different views than they do. But what it doesn’t warrant is intimidation in which to get their way. ‘Iraq drives’ global refugee rise

The number of refugees worldwide has risen for the first time in five years, largely because of violence in Iraq, according to a United Nations report.
      http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/6766067.stm

And here is the picture as used by the BBC in which to make that claim. Refugees are in Blue.
      http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/43065000/gif/_43065789_pop_concern_gra416.gif

and over a 10 year period the trend for refugees (as stated by the UN) is on the way down.

      However did like this dig at Israel;
“The figures released by the UN do not include some 4.3m Palestinians (including those born in exile) displaced since 1948 as a result of the conflict with Israel.”

I wonder if the BBC counts the similar number of Jewish refugees in 1948 and their children too into that equation?

They clearly do have thin skins up there in the NW Frontier, as the BBC have reported on several occasions.

But in what sense is the piece at the top of your posting, “More anger over award to Rushdie” a defence of the Pakistanis’ stance against the author?

You are, once again, twisting a perfectly straightforward news report into something even the most sceptical reader could not recognise.

Here is some simple advice: When a news agency reports an event somewhere, it is to let us know it happened. To report something unpleasant is not to endorse it or defend it.

And as for your loopy excitement about the non-existence of Myanishen or Miya Nishin or wherever…

      1. Place names in different tongues which use different alphabets often vary

      2. So does the local custom for naming them. Think of the Catholics’ Derry and the Prods’ Londonderry.

      3. The other internationally respected news agencies are reporting the same story and quoting authoritative sources in ISAF and the Afghan police. They can’t all be wrong.

Your campaigns on Myanishen and the NWF are in the same childish league of non-events as JBH’s mad damnation of the Guardian editor’s computer fonts.

You at least have the excuse of a troubled relationship with Islam. Sort that out and you can avoid further embarassment.

      Please….

“Anger over civilian casualties has been growing among Afghans and crowds gathered at the scene to protest afterwards.”

Right. So a suicide bomber deliberately kills AT LEAST three people and seriously injures several others. A US soldies accidentally kills one civilian. But the BBC reporter has no doubt that the protest was a genuine protest at the US. I wonder why? Did the reporter ask anyone? Was there actually a BBC reporter there?

The BBC. Not biased – JUST PLAIN STUPID.

Why wouldn’t people protest at the deaths of civilians?

But check this out: The story does not say at whom the protests were aimed.

      Does it?

      Precisely, HillHunt, precisely.

Which is why I am coming to the conclusion that BBC News is not biased, it is just coming from people that are monumentally stupid beyond belief.

After all, wouldn’t it be nice to know PRECISELY why those people were protesting? If no-one at the BBC can be arsed to ask, then they could have been protesting at the result of a footie match for all I know.

Why am I paying for this crap, HillHunt? Why?

And from Lebanon, Michael Totten wades into the Beeb…

“No Middle East crisis is complete without awful media coverage, and so Melanie Phillips is outraged at how the BBC has been grotesquely twisting its reporting on Gaza in order to blame the crisis on Israel. Allow me to take this opportunity to concur and add that Great Britain has become the most anti-Israel country in Europe, and the BBC has been merrily pushing the nation down this nihilistic road for quite some time with its daily injections of what can legitimately be called propaganda. The BBC has successfully turned itself into a revolting cesspool of bigotry against Israel and tendentious excuse-making for Islamic terrorists; it is a national embarrassment of a high order.’

Oh no, HillHunt. The BBC report was about the NATO killing of a civilian. That was the title. It is entirely reasonable for the reader to assume that in the absence of the reporter actually specifying the reason for the protest, that it actually has something to do with the rest of the report.

You are going to have to try a little harder than that to catch me out my friend.

Either the report was deliberately biased or the reporter was incompetent. Your choice.
