It was the sad duty of Eddie Mair on ‘PM’ to inform the nation that Aretha Franklin is to make only one more album.

Cue our Eddie reading a tribute from O’ Bama which anybody just tuning in would have taken for an obituary. Lots of ‘Afro-American’ this and ‘Spiritual music’ that – and that was just in the first ten seconds I could bear listening to before the big clunking fist hit the ‘off’ button.

Please someone do us all a favour and put this student union broadcaster out of its misery.

It’s not just the winsome yet increasingly PC Lucy Worsley busy telling us we ought to rewrite our history. (Turning PC up to 11 is a trend with those contracted to the BBC cf. Gary Lineker)

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours/shows/paul_sinhas_history_2017

‘Award-winning comedian and the world’s 14th best quizzer Paul Sinha returns to BBC Radio 4 for a third series of his History Revision. From ‎Portugal’s invasion of Morocco in 1415 leading directly to the 2014 World Cup, to how the 1909 launch of an Austro-Hungarian submarine ‎prevented Dr Zhivago winning an Oscar, to the story of the black woman who refused to give up a seat on an Alabama bus and ended up ‎changing the law – no, it wasn’t Rosa Parks – Paul will shine a light on the important historical moments that you never got taught at school, ‎and explain why so much of what you did learn is wrong’

Just me, or is this something of an obsession with the BBC lately? Why this constant desire to rewrite history?

More to the point, do state school kids learn any history these days – apart from slavery amd the holocaust?

Has anything happened in the world today? Or in the UK? You know, politics, war, new inventions, migrant crises, Trump announcements?
Because every time I accidentally switch on the Corbyn propoganda machine aka the BBC all I get is the latest latest latest ‘NHS crisis’. Today is the turn of Aand E 4 hour waiting times Crisis.

Maybe the news editors have just made up a random series of NHS crisis headlines on Monday and put them on an old 8 track cassette, you know the ones that go round forever. And then they’ve all f***** off home for the rest of the week.

New shock crisis. More NHS staff are stubbing their toes on skirting boards than ever before. Rocketing absenteeism due to foot injuries. Public enquiry demanded. Skirting board funding crisis. The BBC has this exclusive report…..(continues on all news programmes for several days….).

But only in England. Of course.
Scottish and Welsh crises seem to be ‘significantly under-represented’ in the bBBC coverage. I wonder why?

      Sluff,
Serious problems the BBC portray. In England only 86% of patients are seen and treated within 4 hours. Hold on though! that’s 86 out of every 100. So the truth, if you can even believe the BBC’s figures, is that 14 out of every 100 will not be seen within 4 hours. There, I feel better already!

I think I’ve just observed a classic example of news manipulation by the BBC. You know the situation: TV was on whilst I was in the kitchen. Returned to lounge where the One Show had started. Not a programme I watch nevertheless my immediate attention was drawn to the feature on several Head Teachers travelling to London to plead with the Minister for more money. One interviewee said that his school had risen from 1100 pupils to 1400 with no extra cash. My mind immediately went off at a tangent: the white British are no longer breeding in numbers and, indeed, they are being out-bred by foreigners living in (and some say, off) the UK, particularly Asian Muslims so, question, where have the additional pupils come from? You know and I know without consulting the ONS for the statistics but, I was interested to see how the BBC would subtly persuade the viewer that the increase is nothing to to with immigration. I was not disappointed. We saw day to day scenes in a number of schools involved but, wait, did I spot a black or Asian face? No fear – not one! The BBC would not want viewers to add 2 + 2 and get four and make the connection would they? So endeth my contribution on another example of overt BBC manipulation of the news.

Trump and Brexit ? those currently protesting in the streets will have far worse things to worry about in the next 60 years because they are so short sighted now. Sadiq Khan has already voiced opposition to the kind of ‘unacceptable’ advertising on the underground – just wait until they really get going. Today the BBC has been bleating that the so called ‘millenials’ will be the first generation to be poorer than their parents.

    Well no shit Sherlock!

Two things immediately come to mind. The first is the amount of increase in demand which has totally outstripped supply, and the second & perhaps most important.

The blinkered mono mania of the Fascist left concerning ‘equality’ which of course is only ever going to end one way – an equal spreading of misery.
It doesn’t seem to have crossed the idiots minds that making the poor richer is going to come at the expense of making them poorer. While there might be 80% poor and 15% doing OK those 15% are going to be bearing the brunt of ‘equality’ which the 80% are not going to be improved all that much.

There is no thought as to making everyone wealthier through wealth creation, or rewarding risk & hard work, the only thing to strive for is ‘equality’ and to be honest it’s a pretty miserable goal when the decorations are stripped from it.

Just stop for a moment next time you hear a Fascist droning on about the only thing they have to talk about, and realise what a hollow concept it is. Everyone getting poorer, some faster than others – what’s so great about that ?

In fairness she is showing areas of poverty in Italy, but is skirting around the issue of immigration/invasion by portraying the Hungarian President as authoritarian and unreasonable.

Immigration is the death knell for the EU, but political hubris was the catalyst and it’s disingenuous to blame economics alone for the failure.

The EU was and still is, a political vanity project.

Should the past be judged by modern viewpoints or should history be contextual? The BBC has no doubts and never hesitates to decry episodes in our history. It particularly hates the British Empire. Lucy Worsley, who really ought to know better has taken the BBC’s shilling and is fronting the current assault on the view that Britain should be proud of it’s history. Tonight it’s the turn of British India. Nothing but rapacious entrepreneurs who were followed by lying imperialists, who of course were racists. This series of programmes is shallow and a disgrace.

Credit where it’s due, Katya Adler’s documentary is the most honest account of the EU I have ever seen on the biased BBC.

There were a few hardline BBC moments, notably in Hungary, where Orban came in for the some sneers, and a local mayor was damned for his “extreme views” of wanting Hungary to retain its national identity, customs and borders. An irony-free moment, too, when she accused Orban’s government of going all out to get the referendum result he wanted.

An interesting interview with Marine le Pen. Le Pen was allowed to set out her arguments against the EU uninterrupted but was then compromised by Adler’s commentary statement with no right to reply that the FN was “racist and anti-immigrant” – just after Le Pen had told her that such views were now widely discredited in France, and that surely the news had reached Britain. However, the interview was subsequently revisited and we heard Le Pen having the final word against Schultz’s pro-EU stance.

As someone who has been passionately anti-EU for a long time (despite loving Europe and being multi-lingual), I made myself watch this through gritted teeth. I was more than pleasantly surprised. Katya Adler – clearly she loves Italy and is concerned by how that country has suffered from the European project – gave us an intelligent summary in the main, with many opinions that are rarely aired on BBC current affairs. She even challenged British TV’s favourite loony federalist Guy Verhorseshit with a few digs at the labyrinthine Brussels set-up.

The question is now: how many of the newsbots will have watched it and how soon will it be before they revert to the usual #despitebrexit fake news BBC agenda on the EU?

This reminds me of that story in the Bible about not putting new wine into old skins.

The BBC does on occasion do good investigative TV and radio programmes. I recall ones about the Charlene Downes murder case, the 40th anniversary of Enoch Powell’s 1968 speech in Birmingham and even recent child grooming scandals. The problem is, as has been stated on Biased BBC previously, that they remain somewhat isolated cases of conscientious reporting which don’t change the over-all agenda and viewpoint.

The historian Herbert Butterfield said that the only cure for bad (i.e. overly narrative and potted) history was more (i.e. researched and detailed) history. Trying to fit new facts into the old narrative would not do; the narrative needed to change in the light of the new research.

So, will Adler’s efforts herald more balanced reporting on the pros and cons of the EU by the BBC? I am not optimistic.

        • Stella2 says:

I know it’s off-topic but I do find it curious that yesterday Sky News was like a dog with a bone about the NHS. They even published the results of a ‘poll’ (the inverted commas are there to highlight the possibility that the results may not be entirely trustworthy) that said, a majority allegedly supported a 1% rise in income tax to increase funding for the NHS. The bottom line is that the NHS is underfunded due to that nasty, uncaring, racist conservative government that we have. Sky News has the solution and will be tabling a motion in the House of Commons very soon – oh no they can’t because no MPs from the Sky News party have been elected. What a shame.
Today a 5% increase in council tax to fund social care (the crucial link between the NHS problems and social care shortfall was made yesterday by Sky News) was mooted and put over as a bad thing.
Sky News needs to make its mind up. You can’t have your cake and eat it.

But I cannot find it on AlBeeb. Missed it if it has been on BBBC.
“Robots will replace 80% of UK bureaucrats.”
Splendid news, put the unrequired on the dole. Better still, re-export the uninvited and unwanted compulsorily back to Izzystan.

I have yet to read the devil in these reports, the details.
Who is going to programme these robots?
The left must not be allowed within ten light years of any robotic influence.

This essential task must be given to the only trusted pro UK organisation.
UKIP, all 17 million of us.

I volunteer for the onerous task of introducing robots into the BBC.
80% I can do better than that. No fee required.

Apologies if this has already been commented on:

BBC Wales forced to drop Six Nations advert amid complaints it was racist towards the English

I’ve asked a couple of English friends and, not surprisingly, they aren’t really bovvered. But that’s not the point. It’s the double standards on display time and time again that really irritate.

    Typically BBC.

Lucky I didn’t see it as I would have gone off into a low Earth orbit. I had enough of the low level anti English racism when I worked in Wales a decade ago from some of the fake nationalists. Please remember Mrs Dave is Welsh before anyone thinks it’s a two way street.

I have been listening to radio news broadcasts(R4/World Serv) since late last night when the Trump travel ban decision was first announced, I have not yet heard the BBC provide any information on the judges reasoning. It seems the BBC are only interested in personalising the matter against Trump.

A psychiatrist writes: Foscari, you need to take a closer look at the stimulus that is causing you to believe you are misunderstanding the BBC.
Note for example that when the story is a “positive” NHS story, the number of ethnic minority faces among patients increases in a direct relationship with the number of ethnic minority faces shown staffing the service.

Contrast this with “negative” NHS stories in which the word “overcrowding” is accompanied by pictures of elderly white people, and the ethnic minority patients become invisible, proportionate with the rate that the number of ethnic minority staff portrayed increases.

In Education stories the same dynamic comes into play….”negative” stories show footage of white majority classrooms whilst “positive” education stories show class rooms full of smiling ethnic minority children….often with added hijabs to illustrate the joy of unity in diversity.

In short ethnic minority people are associated with doubleplusgood whereas white people are associated with negativity.

to address your point directly…as we all know Independent schools are full of ethnic minority children. Hence the BBCs use of these photos as a virtue signal to their friends and family, most of whom place their children in the diverse environment of the independent schools sector.

It looks like an “editorial policy”, but as a psychiatrist I am unqualified to comment on this.

Great spot, deserved all that he got. Wanted to join the army, indeed, just the sort of Bollox we hear given in mitigation in our courts.

Did you see the recent news report that following a trial of body cams by police here, complaints about police behaviour have dropped by more than 90%. Police were initially as unenthusiastic about them as our doctors are about charging patients who aren’t entitled to free treatment. They have changed their collective (tiny) minds!

Now we need to issue more of them with guns and fine doctors who won’t ask!
