TUNISIA- BRITAIN TO BLAME?

Don’t know if anyone caught the BBC News on Radi0 4 at One but they managed to find a UK tourist in Tunisia who took exception to the Foreign Office advice to leave that country due to the “highly likely” nature of another terrorist attack. The gentlemen concerned said “It’s what you would expect from a Tory Government”. Now then, last time I checked, it was a Tunisian Islamist who massacred 30 of our fellow citizens of the beach in Sousse. Nothing whatsoever to do with OUR Government. Just how does the BBC hunt down these visceral Conservative haters even in places like Tunisia?

Jane Hill was working the same line on theTV News at 1 o’clock. The website also bangs on about the “angry and confused” tourists coming back. Were they all “angry and confused” or what about those who might be grateful that the FCO had clearly acted on new intelligence which indicated another imminent attack? Just imagine the Beeb’s righteous indignation at the Government if another attack had taken place and another 30 Brits came home in coffins. I cannot think of any other country on this earth where the media would deliver so much flak to a government seeking to protect the safety of its citizens. Whenever I think the Beeboids can’t stoop any lower they always manage to surprise me.

Why do you assume it was ‘showing off’? Perhaps it was offered in a spirit of gentle generosity to help a man avoid a solecism in future (as I would, should I feel so moved).

Assuming the worst of motives is such a despicable lefty trait. (That’s an observation, not a specific accusation.)

The holidaymaker didn’t blame the British gov for the attack. He wasn’t happy he went out there for a holiday and now was being brought back. Sounded like frustration.

Mark Mardell did ask him about that comment as it did seem a bit out if the blue. He didn’t really justify it. As I say, sounded out of frustration.

But these kinds of things happen in human conversation. Do you think the bbc searched Tunisia to find a British tourist to blame the Tories? Or did they ask him to say it?

My guess is the ‘Evil Organisation’ would not actively search for someone to make an adverse comment about “the Tories”, but they will aim to interview enough people in order to make the chances greater. When, oh joy of joys, someone does make an anti-Tory comment, that’s the one that will be selected for broadcasting.

I can’t check now, but wasn’t it a live interview?

It didn’t sound rehearsed to me, and when asked, hadn’t thought it through. It is possible some people don’t like the Tories.

You’re right Fuleco. It was a live interview. The UK tourist just blurted it out. Mark Mardell sounded surprised and put the government’s side of the argument to him. The UK tourist then admitted that the UK government might be acting in the interests of British tourists after all. David Vance must have missed that part of the interview.

“The standard left/BBC explanation of Islamic atrocities is ‘British foreign policy’.”..

but it wasn’t the current – or coalition – government that sent troops into Afghanistan or Iraq – it was the lefties in the shape of the two war criminals Bliar and Campbell, both of which need to be indicted for crime against humanity.

I don’t remember either of these being in the Tory party – not the Tory party being in government when “Shock and Awe” aka Operation TELIC was unleashed, so why the hell are they taking the flak from the luvvies?

The advice from the Foreign Office is news, all the rest is opinion.

These opinions ranged from the ‘expert’, “Tunisia is the Arab Spring success story”, (so what, we are talking about the risk of being killed, not about whether we approve of their democracy), to the ignorant, “We didn’t see any threat”, (so a unless the bodies are piling up everything is OK?).

Balance and impartiality is one thing but does every government announcement have to be accompanied by instant criticism?

Quite why anybody would wish to take a holiday in Tunisia or any N African land is beyond me. That of course is opinion.
I would also say common sense as well.
Nobody goes on holiday to take risks with their lives but so bizarre is the liberal disease infecting Westerners that they would rather end up dead than make a value judgement about just about anything.

I too worry about the Tunisian tourist industry as well as the Greek one.
I just happen to trust what remains of “the authorities” if they say that there`s a threat-God knows the self same BBC would make hay with the authorities if they failed to pass on a threat to led to deaths.
Only the BBC would use the deaths of 38 British people-not even buried yet-to trash the Tories, to impugn the security services and imply that IS have got us on the run-whether we stay or go in Tunisia.
They just hate us-and we need to put the BBC in an orange jumpsuit and show IS that we regard them as sinister and hate-filled as THEY are.
With the same ultimate decapitation inevitable.

The whole BBC approach was ridiculous. All angst about “what about the Tunisian tourist industry, which will be decimated”.

Yes, unfortunately, I find that a concern too, but that is just one of the many results of back-to-basics Islam moving around the world, as usual spreading, blood, hate, violence and fear with it.

This is not our fault. It is up to the Tunisians to sort out security if they want tourists to come to their country.

It was up to the tourists whether they came back or stayed, there was no ‘order’ to come back, just advice.

To hear the BBC talk, you would think it is the duty of the British working classes to risk their lives to support Tunisian jobs.

I don’t know about anyone else, I cannot imagine a holiday on the beach where I wonder about every boat that passes – in case it brings jihadists with assault rifles intent on killing as many tourists as possible. Some relaxing holiday that would be.

Yes, the media line is that the damage to the Tunesian tourist industry would empoverish and so “radicalize” Tunesian youth. Yet again a “counterproductive” measure that plays into the hands of the terrorists. According to the media, any action you take against Islamists is “counterproductive”. Although, the indigenous British tourist seems to have swallowed the “We must go to Tunesia to show ISIS we can’t be intimidated” shtick hook line and srinker. As the “national” broadcaster didn’t have the courage to show a cartoon that was the pretext for Muslim outrage and murder, all this pseudo-Churchillian “we will fight them on the Tunesian beaches” crap seems very hollow and hypocritical from those who are too spineless to utter even the mildest criticism of Islam. I don’t see any vast exodus of moderate, peaceloving “British” Muslims eager to show some solidarity with their equally devout Tunesian brothers in their hour of need. Syria, where Islam is supposedly being perverted, seems a more popular destination. It would be better to resist Muslim intimidation in Britain, rather than make futile gestures in Tunesia.

I would, if I may, like to just ‘tweak’ part of what you say above….it’s not just any actions against Islamic terrorists which are labelled as ‘counterproductive’ by those such as BBC reporters – it also includes any actions taken to protect yourself, your country, or your people from the actions of these terrorists.

        • ID says:

You are right, clearly, if opposing Islamic violence is counterproductive then, by BBC/ political elite logic, doing the contrary, promoting Islamic violence, must be the effective “counterintuitive” approach. This is why CAGE, representatives are always available on the BBC for coomment and, of course, Abdullah al Andalusi, HMIC manager and Jihadist.

There is obviously a correlation between public sector workers spending lots of (paid) time protesting to the BBC and the current levels of “poor productivity” in the UK.

The gentlemen concerned said “It’s what you would expect from a Tory Government”.

If he weren’t dead I would have assumed that was Bob Crow speaking, slathered in tax-payer subsidised sun cream as usual. Obviously it isn’t, so I can only assume it is someone pi**ed off about only being able to afford a holiday in Tunisia because the Tories have cut his generous benefits to not-so-generous but generous all the same.

There were photos of an air attack on a lorry carrying explosives in the papers/ websites the other day. Look at the Maths:

1 Hellfire missile, costing £100,000 destroys a £10,000 lorry and kills (say) 3 people.

    1 £100 Kalashnikov destroys a £100,000,000 tourist industry and kills 33 people.
