His must have been tricky boots to fill, but somehow Newsnight managed.
Paul must have been gutted at the election result. Still, good to see he has bounced back. I wonder if his iPhone was buzzin’ with ‘it’s all kicking off’ texts from close contacts made at the BBC, when Douglas Carswelll was having a bad day?
The line between the tangible and the notional often gets blurred these days.
And often in different directions, depending on who is in charge of judging, and mandating outcomes.
Take belief. When it comes to an ‘ism, all a person needs is belief that it applies to them badly, and all sorts of people can get excited, and stuff can happen.
However if in the hands of a BBC Director, say of the ECU, their personal belief can make that of another go away. At least, as far as a BBC complaint is concerned.
Now there is safety or, rather, ‘unsafety’.
No one should have to feel threatened, but there are limits to what can be done, should be done and the reactions that can and are imposed based on the limitations of reality.
But too often the powers that be(have like like headless chickens) seem to err on the side of taking what is bad and make it all worse, or seek solutions that solve immediate problems but really just kick a snowball down a hill.
Of course it’s easy to dismiss security concerns if one isn’t immediately on the wrong end of what has been threatened. Would I turn up to a Robert and Pam gathering protected not by US police but Theresa and Dave’s clipboard warriors? Possibly not, mainly because I know the equivocating hi-vis and walkie-talkie cadres of the latter will be sod all use. Maybe they do too, which is why they caved to the threat. More than likely those who made the threat knew they would, which is why they made it.
It’s odd how some making threats get away with it, and others do not, at least as easily. The Beeb’s onetime go-to guy on Islamic affronts was never off the airwaves (still on the US circuit, from here), and despite wishing extreme ill on foes still seems to walk the streets free of much bother.
Yet some loon makes a nasty tweet and the establishment freaks out. Is Lord Hall Hall still enjoying a grand a day’s worth of Range Rover’s full of close protection because he felt unsafe?
Not all do get that level of reassurance on the public tab, of course.
Poor American lefty undergrads. Made to feel unsafe by ideas, are they? Here, my lefty American friends, let a British university show you what unsafeness looks like.
Daily Mail – Britain goes halal… but no-one tells the public
NHS Trusts, Schools, Univ, Councils, Supermarkets, other retailers etc.
… increase in Halal chicken? apparently about 35% of all chicken for sale in the UK is now Halal?
Halal s standards? connection? … just putting it out there
as a veggie myself i find it odd how all the green leftie vegan veggies, anti fox hunting/badger culling sect dont have a problem with kosher/halal. Functions at work now offer veggie or un-labeled halal, no kosher though their not bothered about the jews feelings either
Several French supermarkets have a special section for halal products. As I wander past them I often notice some pork sausages and lardons have found their way into the area.
its patently ridiculous and she is obviously overpaid or the expenses are taking a battering, either way i will wager shes not giving hmrc much via paye
Over the years until recently, there have been huge rallies in London. But all basically peaceful – CND, Stop the War, Countryside Alliance etc.
The only really violent ones I can remember were over the Vietnam war – riots outside the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square. On that occasion the police cracked down on violence and threats of violence.
But over the past few years there have been many examples of violence. Mostly SWP etc against EDL. The police did not hammer the SWP violence – so they have caught the habit, and now turn it against the Tories and UKIP. And again the police have acted in a supine manner, time after time.
The more the ;police fail to act against violence int he streets – the more the SWP feel that their thug tactics are allowed.. Even when they set up demos that have not been authorised by the local authorities. They win miniscule votes if ever they stand as local candidates – but they really ENJOY their mob violence.
The Met Police have become a spineless politically-correct bunch of cowards. Happy to take their pay from us – but unwilling to do their job properly.
And the root problem lies with the successive Home Secretaries who have statutory responsibility for the Met. The Sainted Teresa has had 5 years to tell the Met to sort themselves out – but she still fails to do so. IMO her failures on this and on other issues – a whole catalogue of failures – should disqualify her from any prospect of eventually becoming Tory leader. She is a vacuous windbag, a marshmallow politician.
My Policeman mate from Luton tells me that when the EDL have rally in Luton the UAF come up and smash up the town ….. The charge list should be enough evidence
‘Are we surprised the bBC giving airtime to such..”
Worth going back to that thread:
Andrew Sinclair @andrewpolitics May 28 It seems our decision to speak to one of the people who confronted @DouglasCarswell has provoked a range of opinions. Will RT some views (safe to say… could have gone better. He’s wise to select the RTs (not endorsements).
Wonder if Andy will be getting any recipe tips from returning jihadis while he’s at it?
This precedent of only interviewing one side most of the time in committing to free(ish) speech can get tricky to juggle, mind.
Andrew Sinclair @andrewpolitics May 28 Personally I see nothing wrong with giving other people’s point of view. I call it free speech and leave the audience to make up their minds
Well, after the BBC has decided who the audience gets to hear from, guided the narrative in their questions and editted in what suits and out what doesn’t before broadcast, eh, Andrew?
A university’s diversity officer will remain in post, despite provoking a storm of protest by tweeting #killallwhitemen and labelling people “white trash”.
Bahar Mustafa also banned white men from a university event on diversifying the curriculum at Goldsmiths University, London.
She then defended her position by stating that she could not be racist because she is an ethnic minority woman.
A rational society would stop all tax funding for that place. The woman’s statements clearly break the law.
Over funded so called universities are drain on the nation and closing most of them would be of benefit.
Money saved and can be spent usefully. Like returning all the BBC tax to the pockets of the people. A clear gain for all.
I can only assume that all the male students at Goldsmiths University are either right-on Uncle Tom feminists or cock-in-a-frock in-betweenies. Otherwise, a couple of dozen or so of them would simply turn up to one of these feminisit/sexist/racist meetings and, well, just see what happens…
Is that vacuous vulva Steve Hilton never off the BBC?
Bluesky thinking blah, blah More Human, blah, Big Society blah..
MY BOOK blah, blah…
Thank God for the OFF switch
Everyone says Britain would be down the tubes if we had anything like Fox TV.
But here from a long time ago is Homer watching a FIFA Vice President being handcuffed. Classic !
The sense I have from some US websites is that the FBI action stems from the time when Obama’s Justice Secretary Eric Holder attended a FIFA vote meeting where the US bid to host the World Cup lost against Russia. This was after Obama dismally failed to get the Olympics to his home town Chicago. No wonder Putin is spitting tacks.
Interesting you say that. Radio Scotland had a chap on this morning saying this was all to do with the 2026 World Cup bid where the USA are up against China, and Sepp Blatter’s nephew has joined up with the Chinese bid in some way – so the Yanks decided enough was enough.
Some interesting information about investigations into the BBC have come to light. Here are some known members of the BBC Paedophile Ring: Eric Gill, Jimmy Savile, David Smith, Rolf Harris, Michael Souter, Simon Warr, Stuart Hall, Chris Langham, Fred Talbot, Jonathan King, Chris Denning, Rob Turner, John Nathan-Turner and Gary Downie. It looks like Jill Dando was investigating Paedophilia at the BBC before the existence of Super Injunctions could protect the rest of the perverts. But it looks like the other names could be leaked in foreign publications soon. Eric Gill produced the symbol of the BBC Paedophile Ring, which adorns the front of Broadcasting House, in PLAIN SIGHT.
On a lighter note, anyone going to Scotland on the 1st June, take a shovel, blanket and your toboggan. My trusty seaweed tells me there is a very good chance of Snow on the West side on the higher peaks the 1st of June. Ah yes, good old British Summer time, snow. A bit of “wintriness” in the “Global Warming” era is it then BBC? Cycle 24 in the sun spot activity really is changing the climate and henceforth the weather, but don’t mention the basics to our so called “BBC Scientists” it might make them look, well, how can I put it….stupid? El Nino and El Nana a product of man made Co2? You are having a laugh. Just look up into the sky and there you will see what drives our climate(s). Phtt.
An article which fails to criticise the extreme violence associated with depictions or cartoons. It puts the Muslim view which of course is reasonable because it’s always been the case.
This quote is interesting:
– many Shia Muslims appear to have a slightly different view. Contemporary pictures of Muhammad are still available in some parts of the Muslim world, according to Hassan Yousefi Eshkavari, a former Iranian cleric, now based in Germany. He told the BBC that today, images of Muhammad hang in many Iranian homes-
So, a split on Sunni v Shia lines.
IS are Sunni.
We haven’t been appeasing all muslims, just the Sunni IS tribe.
It will be interesting when Sunni militias meet Shia militias in a forthcoming confrontation. Both tribes hate each other.
BBC reporter in Switzerland this morning covering the FIFA scandal, besides adding little for the viewer for the cost of his airfare, does provide us a little side light on BBC office culture and thinking.
He flicks through the Swiss daily newspapers and his commentary is revealing….
Handelszeitung (front page layout looking somewhat boutique – dare I say Guardian-lite) “Most respected”
Blick (mass circulation tabloid) “Most popular”
You see, so long as the BBC sets itself in opposition to what most people think and enjoy it is going to lose in the end. One day there will be a Sepp Blatter-style denouement at the Beeb. We don’t care how much the BBC might do for the third world.
‘The Left, I can only conclude, is no longer driven by either logic or reason. It’s all about the expression of emotion. And so long as you do it holding an anti-austerity placard, its not thuggery – it’s a protest. Provided your target is Ukip, it is not mob violence – but to use the BBC’s expression – it’s a confrontation.’
Let’s see what this looks like with a little substitution:
‘Biased BBC, I can only conclude, is no longer driven by either logic or reason. It’s all about the expression of emotion. And so long as you do it holding an anti-BBC placard, its not thuggery – it’s a protest. Provided your target is the BBC, gays, “the Left”, it is not mob violence…’
Of course, the usual braying ninnies will deny that they are worse than the people they’re always accusing of appalling behaviour. Because hypocrisy is not only acceptable on Biased BBC, it’s required.
Why oh why didn’t the famous Norwich City fan whose every word and deed fills the BBCs airwaves not pick you to marry instead of that awfully young chap dear Scott? Scott? ……hello Scott ? ……what do you mean fifty is the new 25 ?
Hey… his posts come with a ‘Mishal’s Moral Equivalence-approved’ sticker. Deadly serious.
Next up… Katie Hopkins with her MacBook vs. Muhammad Jassim Abdulkarim Olayan al-Dhafiri and his entire Morrison’s kitchen utensil sticker-offer collection.
Haven’t got a sound card and did not see it live last night, but this BBC clip may have something relating to the Douglas Carswell incident – from the “other” side.
“…people in positions of authority in society, such as judges and police officers, and perhaps people who make hiring decisions, should have their unconscious bias evaluated and perhaps trained to some standard”
And, by logical implication, the British public might have their conservative voting habits trained out of them.
The BBC think it appropriate to interview a hard left thug. Hattie Craig, NUS, Politics student, (I doubt mummy and daddy are that poor). Mum and Dad didn’t press home the difference between right and wrong, but the lack of a Y chromosome will no doubt rocket her up the Labour promotional ladder. The BBC newsperson was exceedingly polite to Hattie.
Perhaps when you are an elected representative you are not deserving of politeness and a platform on the BBC. As a hard left fascist footsoldier however, Hattie gets the red carpet treatment to explain why it is OK assault elected MP’s (or anyone for that matter) because he’s got money. Workers beware, especially if you are prudent and save: Hattie’s coming for you, with her mob, and she thinks its OK to do that in a ‘democracy’.
Step forward the latest new age fascist, hard left condoner of assault and mob member.
Its OK to assault and threaten Douglas Carswell.
If ever there was clear evidence that removal of corporal punishment was a mistake, young Hattie is it. Her parents have done a shameful job of raising a spoilt immoral brat. Perhaps she’ll grow out of it?
‘It is OK assault elected MP’s (or anyone for that matter) because he’s got money’
Maybe be wise then for a large section of the BBC to exit via the back door when Hats & crew are having one of their weekly ‘convene at the BBC’ marches.
My MP. Have kept him abreast of a few ‘quirks’ in the area of media in the past. Sadly was more a ‘national treasure’ fan, inspired no doubt by the lure of the DP sofa. But has an independent streak and may yet be won over.
Good article on the BBC’s bias on assisted suicide. This is an important issue requiring a detailed and unbiased appraisal of the ethical issues involved and of the consequences of inadequately considered legislation. The BBC is packed with so called ethical experts, but peddles this simplistic support for accelerated death.
I have a dog in this fight. I once wrote a book warning of the dangers of the kind of pro-euthansia legislation in the Netherlands and Belgium. A researcher from the BBC visited me, turned on his recorder and asked why we don’t think twice about killing a sick dog but are concerned about killing a sick human. When I pointed out that many people care deeply about killing their dogs, he promptly switched off his recorder and found another academic who supported euthanasia.
…The BBC is packed with so called ethical experts…
As a keen student of ethics myself, I have yet to be exposed to BBC ‘ethical experts’. I keep listening and watching, but the evidence suggests that the BBC commissioners wouldn’t know a Thomas Jefferson from a Ted Bundy when it comes to ethics. (very) Rarely, Prof. Richard Dawkins gets an outing. Hitchens (the late C and the Mail’s P) got/get put out there now and again. Sam Harris – haven’t seen him on BBC.
We are exposed to religious zealots and graduates from the school of postmodernist moral relativism. By the shed load. That’s when they aren’t writing their bile and vitriol in the Guardian.
Hence, the BBC finds itself in it’s self-created moral cess pool.
As you say, this is a difficult issue where the correctness of the wording of any legislation allowing people to make a choice about their own life and death, is essential. Unfortunately, the BBC do not recognise, nor wish to investigate through discourse, the very real potential unintended consequences of such legislation and the potential evils that may lie ahead for some vulnerable people, whose family or guardians may not be motivated by the best interests of the individual concerned, should badly worded legislation become law.
There are many issues that arise from legislating to legalise euthenasia or so called assisted dying.
What is apparent is, that this is a subject that the BBC as the UK’s public service broadcaster should be covering impartially and in depth, but so far it has not. Instead we are presented with support for the most simplistic viewpoint, i.e. if someone is suffering greatly or is terminally diagnosed a doctor should be allowed to kill them if requested, providing sufficient safeguards are in place.
Medical, philosophical and religious ethicists b all currently grappling with the complexity of the issues involved. Currently a majority view has not yet prevailed, precisely because of the complexity, the societal and individual impact, and the unknown future consequences of such legislation.
In my view it is very damaging to the BBC’s reputation as a serious social commentator, that so far, it has added nothing of substance to this most important subject.
I have found today one of the most egregious articles of bias I think I’ve ever come across on the BBC (and that takes some doing!)
Women being banned from driving.
Now we all know that Wahabist Islam forces women to cover their faces, to not leave the house without a male relative as chaperone, and the state bans women from driving on the grounds of Sharia law.
Occasionally the BBC makes a cursory report on this, but never condemns it, and we know that it is going on in the UK, because it’s happening in France too.
The BBC however have excelled themselves, in finding an obscure Orthodox Jewish group few in number which do not allow women to drive, and they have been all over it, describing it as ‘religious extremism’, and dragging government ministers on air to be berated about it.
However they never ever mention the equivalent problems with Islamic women & Sharia law, & Saudi cultural extremism. The fact of women’s oppression doesn’t matter. The top of the hierarchy of isms are Pakistani Muslim MEN, and what they want – women don’t figure in the Neo Fascist left wing thinking of the BBC.
And never on the radio or tv, always buried away on their news website.
Compare and contrast with the lack of BBC outrage over the segregated audience at Labour rally during the election campaign, nor any kind of coverage on radio or tv of the practice which is widespread amongst the Muslim ‘community’ in the UK, from mosques to universities. Pure hypocrisy when at other times it’s such a champion of women’s rights it’s enough to make your ears bleed.
Still waiting for an apology Dez, by the way. I’ll keep it diarised so’s you don’t forget.
never have I heard the manipulation of a topic being used to assist the Beeb’s agenda as the story about Jewish women being forbidden from driving. This is just such a small sect of Jews as to be irrelevant. The majority of Jews would say that they are meshuggana (ie ridiculous), but the extremism of these Jews puts no risk on the rest of the British population. Jews do not encourage conversion and would never be looking for their laws to be adopted by others. Even if all Jewish women gave up driving, and the posting here is by one who never would, there would be no affect on other women. But boy did the World At One go overboard with the triple effect of attacking the Jews; implying that Muslims are not that bad and attacking a Conservative Government trying to fight extremism.
Women in the IDF Air Force & Special Forces | Jewish Virtual Library http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org384 × 387Search by image
In December 2011, five female pilots completed flight school at the 163rd graduation ceremony of the Israeli Air Force Flight Academy.
There are some women who do drive in KSA; the Bedouin females in the desert, as it is such a hostile environment in which to live that they have to, to survive.
It’s amazing the legs this non-story has grown. The BBC, as so often, is simply following the herd.
I couldn’t find a figure for the number of Belz Hassidim in Stamford Hill but the total Jewish population is estimated as 20,000 (about 10% of total). Not all are Belz. Nor are they the largest group. There are at least 13 other Hassidic groups as well as a non Hassidic Yemenite Jewish population.
The leadership of Hassidic groups such as Belz rule essentially by decree. In theory their rules should be based on Jewish law and custom (specifically Belz and more generally Hassidic) but local politics still pays a major part.
Although I have no contacts with the Belz I wouldn’t be surprised if the ruling has more to do with reducing jealousy of those who can afford a car by those who can’t. By necessity such a ruling had to be expressed in religious terms.
I am following this story and predict that the cops will call the event off. But it raises a problem for the BBC and the ‘I support free speech BUT..’ crowd. Note who has threatened to kill children, not the bikers and cartoonists. (Note, I tried to post this at the end but it came out in the middle of a discussion – apologies.)
A comment I came across on the subject of tonight’s drawing jamboree ‘stateside’:
To be held outside a mosque during Friday prayers, where security will be provided by armed American bikers and attendees are encouraged to bring the American flag and their guns. I just love Americans.
The 1st and 2nd Amendments are going to meet Islamo-fascism. I can’t see Islamo-fascism winning. The line is being drawn in the US, by its citizens, not its government. Our politicians and MSM lack the guts to bring the subject to the surface. You’re a pariah if you raise the subject. The BBC, our government, schools and Police ‘Service’ has made it so.
Similar events are going to happen here, its just how and when. It needs to be in the political arena and the sooner the better!
As ever-if the BBC don`t like them, that will mean that they`re to be supported.
Hence my new-found admiration for Sepp Blatter.
I`ve long thought him an odious creeping corrupt toad-the very embodiment of all that`s wrong with football…as well as other unaccountable worldwide mission creeps like the UN, EU and UEFA.
And as the BBC huff and puff about Blatter and his “not listening to the court of public opinion” schtick…don`t the BBC continue to do the same even after we all voted for the Tories only three weeks ago?
The BBC continue to mock us with their 24/7 continual slather and slime for the lefty liberal project-at least Blatter has an election to confirm he`s an unaccountable head-up his arse double dealing two faced scummard.
And we don`t have to pay him a penny-unlike the equally evil BBC.
Anybody able to tell me why the BBC don`t seem to want us all to keep going to head shops?
I thought that some poly dolly of a lecturer was on Today the other morning telling us to free our minds and let LSD be made more legal?
Only our Sgt Pepper granny glasses to lose, chill out dudes…being the message from our Kings College drugs doughnut still coming down after the post-election blues?
Ah I see-Lennon or Hendrix never used head shops-so bit chavvy then?
As opposed to the Oxbridge junkies who like to think their LSD comes from Yokos yellow bag-and will bestow on them some second-hand passive creativity!
No-no lefty able to tell me why they like the death penalty for unborn babies(abortion)…and the death penalty for their grandparents(euthanasia)-but will resist all and any efforts to allow the death penalty for terrorists, murderers and other oxygen thieves currently waiting for an EU lawyer or a Hamas franchise to spring them.
Do the Left actually have a corpus callosum that links both sides of what passes for their brains?…or are we just to be as hypocritial and myopic, as lazily expedient as they are?
Shall we compare them to a Summer’s Day?
Though Douglas was the only one to stay.
The system helped the Racist SNP
But not Labour or their allied BBC.
No fair referendum now would make us weep
But Cameron made a promise he must keep.
The EU is a prison for us all
If we now leave then surely it would fall.
The pris’ners number half a billion
Though we now have a wise four million.
Nigel went but he then came back again
He must still lead to take us from this pain.
Scotland and Wales will do just what they like
So for freedom English heroes, we must strike!
The corpus callosum and other connections must be impaired by drugs available to University Students. This causes them to vote Labour, and retain only enough brain power to be able to express emotion. But they must no longer able to think logically or with reason. This would explain the bias of left-wing middle-class morons with arts and media qualifications at the BBC, who claim to be the “best scientific experts”
Yes. Remember all the hype about Black lives matter. Well, not all.
@SheriffClarke
White liberals march around with signs Black Lives Matter. Except when it comes to aborting black babies. Then the “matter” is just tissue.
This week gratuitous anti-UKIP reference brought to you by Wellington: The Iron Duke Unmasked.
“He [Wellington] was certainly not part of the ‘ultras’, as they were known in those days, the extreme right wing of the Tory Party, erm, he would not have been, I think, a supporter of UKIP or any of the right-wing of British politics today.”
So says the moronic 9th Duke, who also happens to be an ex-Conservative MEP. He seems to be suggesting Wellington was a Cameroonian. Seriously? The Iron Duke? The opponent of parliamentary reform. Whatever you say.
Hmm, equating UKIP with the extreme right wing of the 19th century Tory party. That’s a new one. Usually, our opponents say we want to go back to the 1950’s when, in fact, we want to go back to the 1820’s. Next up: Stonehenge and how UKIP want to take us back to the Bronze Age.
(1) The Greens want to return us back to the Green and Pleasant Druidic pre-Roman times before 43. (2) The SNP want to return us back to before the Union of Nations in 1707. (3) Cameron would like to return us back to before the Reform Act of 1832. (4) Labour would like to return us back to the Communist Manifesto of 1848. (5) The Liberals want to return us back to before the end of Liberal Party domination in 1922. And (6) UKIP want to return us back to the peak year for Democracy, 1972, the only year that Britain had Direct Democracy at the lowest end of Government, and a Sovereign Independent Democracy for the people of Britain at the highest end of Government power. So UKIP are the most modern of these Parties, so then always vote UKIP until they replace Representative Democracy with Direct Democracy after we leave the EU. Then UKIP could claim to have created the most modern progressive Democracy in the world, even more so than Switzerland, with at the present, more devolved system of Government, with the Cantons.
!972 , not with Heath as PM , he was dreadful , hardly any difference between , him & `arold , Wilson . Although ` arold did hold a referendum , but Woy Jenkins was waiting in the wings together with Wedgewood Benn , & Sunny Jim came in, as `arolds choice, as Labour leader, & PM in the end . 1972 a good year for music ,when T.B. is doing ,Pick of the Pops from 72 .
Labour leadership contenders all chewing wasps – “we spent too much…..there needs to be some welfare reform……immigrants should not be able to take out without first putting in…… etc etc
Al Beeb reporting that Italy are rescuing over 3300 immigrants in the Med. Along with HMS Bulwark, it looks as if they are running a ferry service . How many more ? How many terrorists & how many IS ? How much room left in Britain?
The duty of the government of any nation is to protect its borders and its people. We have a week wet government .
None , of them are coming here ,we have an opt out , but do you want the Med to be full of bodies , what else do Christian countries do ? Its a hard choice ,I agree .
Essex Man
Now that the Tory party is in Government, its time for you to think about voting UKIP in the referendum to get us out of the EU. They are the party that put the security, defence and the interests of our nation first .
Er the the referendum , is nothing to do with voting for a party ,its either to vote to stay in , or vote to leave . If the electorate vote to leave , I guess you will be happy , if they vote to , Stay in , the K F K on this site, will go on & on about it, to they are eventually departing this mortal coil.
Once they have their EU passports, we can’t stop them coming here, opt out or not.
Indeed. Takes about three years, or did for an East European I worked with. The ‘opt-out’ is yet another PR wheeze from Call-Me-Dave. Watch him big up tax credit restrictions but supply the same money by some other channel. Dave is the master of snake oil selling.
Bad analogy – rather loses your point. Worrying about the influence of the Reds has been proved justified, oh how so completely justfied. The 1960s crowd of reds have taken over the BBC and Academia completely. They’ve got most of the C of E, have gained too much influence in the Police “Service”, the Judiciary etc. Not forgetting the Unions. Those worrying about the Reds Under the Beds rather underestimated the threat in my opinion.
Sadly I find myself unable to agree with much put forth by this Alternative Media Officer of Manchester NUJ, and an Economics and Politics graduate specialising in foreign affairs.
An interesting piece, perhaps not helped by the author viewing everything through a prism of loathing Rupert Murdoch, and a dubious grasp of what is, in fact, fact.
I suppose we could complain about Steph, but really, she the gift that keeps on giving. Probably better to just monitor her views! When Manon asks for evidence, we can point him to her twitter. Where is Manon anyway? Must be having a well-earned holiday.
‘The City regulator has told the BBC it has sent a file to the police.
The plan was to make customers in arrears believe that their outstanding debt had been passed to a law firm, with legal action threatened if the debt was not paid.
The company was using this tactic to maximise collections by piling the pressure on customers’
It will be interesting to see if the story about the BBC’s efforts makes it beyond the backwater that is the BBC Trust publication of appeals.
Seems the BBC pays about as much attention to the Trust as BBC staff pay to BBC bosses.
Just think how much time, money and (salaried) people the BBC threw at that before conceding… eventually, having put the licence fee payer through the hoops.
In passing I scanned a few others. No time for detail now, but as a ‘tease’ (think of it like one of those call-out panels the BBC use all the time) here’s a hoot for the Flokkers who scream ‘censorship!’ to chew on:
‘The complainant said in his appeal that the moderators were unable to locate a single example of the use of an abbreviated name for Mohammed as being offensive. He said that the moderators did not like the factually accurate content of the postings and so used the phrase “may cause offence” as a pretext to censor the post. He said that the moderators were not acting with a fair or balanced judgement. Decision of the Senior Complaints Adviser
The Senior Complaints Adviser (the Adviser) carefully considered the article and the many comments on it and read the correspondence that had passed between the complainant and the BBC. She decided that the complainant’s appeal did not have a reasonable prospect of success.
Nifty precedent. If the BBC doesn’t think the BBC will find against the BBC, the BBC can (and often does) simply decide to pull the plug.
Takes me back to that one where using language used on the BBC in a complaint about the BBC’s use of language, was used as an excuse by the BBC not to deal with it as the BBC’s dainty ears could not handle what the BBC had carried once borne, via another, back.
The spirit of the Leopard in the Basement with the BBC strong is.
Then there is the BBC and all it will do not to answer legitimate FOIs:
‘In response to his FOI request, he had been told that complaints numbers would not be released as it would interfere with the BBC’s impartiality and leave it open to action from pressure groups,’
You know when the BBC gleefully reports ‘critics are saying’ based on complaints numbers?
For now I merely ask how the BBC’s ‘impartiality’ is in any way interfered with other than legitimately, by the public knowing how many of the public are unhappy with what the BBC gets up to.
And when has the BBC ever met a pressure group it didn’t like… except when it is the BBC being held to account?
Bring it on I say. The last tournament included a Swedish team of stunners and Louisa Necib of France; plays like Zidane but much easier on the eye and doesn’t head butt opponents! *heads off to Room 101, a la Hilts, for re-education*
Sun’s back out, so before I return outside, let me risk invoking the Candyman with a top story from the BBC, in no way overstaffed with folk who have too much space to fill with bugger all (as they would say on QI):
BBC News
A “gay” bull has surprised his new owners by trying to mate with cows
Headline-grabbing supposedly homosexual bull “definitely not gay”
BBC.IN
Remarkable. If some religious individual claims he can ‘cure’ gay humans, the Beeb heap abuse on him… and yet, for cattle… still; aren’t cows considered holy in India? Maybe that explains it?
What, Dan Hall, the Doctor Who producer, is a leftist mob rule fascist? A BBC drama producer? Really? What a complete surprise. Next you will be telling me that the producer of Question Time is a Trotskyite.
Nearly as much as Biased BBC commenters telling porkies in order to substantiate their already shaky premise.
Dan Hall is neither a Doctor Who producer, nor a BBC Drama producer. He’s a commercial producer whose company has made a few DVD extras for discs which include some DW related material, first for 2|entertain and then, when that company folded after co-owner Woolworths folded, for BBC Worldwide.
But hey. Of course I recognise that ignoring the truth is what Biased BBC does best. Such a shame that’s the only thing it’s good at, but I suppose even the smallest cabal of lunatics and idiots has got to start somewhere…
After their fearless expose of how the wicked British state murdered thousands in Northern Ireland how about a Panorama special on ..
The IRA past of Sinn Fein politicians

Ah the FA Cup final, that most English of institutions. So naturally the BBC treat us to Benjamin Zephaniah and that unfunny prick from Citizen Khan during the lead-up. You name it, they’ll find a way to crowbar it in.
Would you believe it? The News Channel has just started ‘Our World – Who Killed Alberto Nisman?’ about the killing of the Jewish prosecutor in Argentina. The Beeb kept away from this when all the world’s big media were on it… why the change of heart?
bBBC ‘news’ all day has been running a major item that the million people who didn’t file their tax returns on time in January can invent an excuse and be let off the £100 fine. The bBBC were very keen to tell us that they sent a reporter to an outdoor cafe in north London (naturally) and found that everyone agreed with this.
So, there’s another £100,000,000 that will have to be found from further government cuts. How applying the same policy to those who don’t pay their TV-tax?
This article manages to squeeze in the CBI, who credit the EU for substantial economic growth in the UK.
The same CBI who receive a substantial annual EU grant of over £160,000 per year.
Here’s a quote from the link:-
–Earlier in the month the CBI urged businesses to “speak out early” in favour of remaining in a reformed European Union.
Its president Sir Mike Rake said there were “no credible alternatives” to EU membership–.
You wouldn’t bite the hand that feeds you, would you??
Fine, Guest Who wants to prove how desperate and irrelevant he is. Thanks for promoting be to be more precise, although the general comment is not untrue either.
“what is the current time limitation before something doesn’t count any more?”
Ask Andy S the next time he’s caught out lying. He’d like it to be “straight after hitting the ‘post comment’ button.”
in their defence. I having worked in Public Sector have seen the Freedom of Information Act abused relentlessly by troublemakers both internal and external to an organisation. Filing request after request for the most trivial things. In one organisation the Data Protection Officer told me he spent 80% of his time responding to requests from one individual who was an ex employee who was sacked and now spends his time writing requests
And relentless abuse being permitted or not is down to failures of the creators of the FOI (who was that again?) to frame it properly.
Hence decent officers being run ragged by actual flippant and vexatious requesters apparently without check, whilst the BBC can pull that rabbit out of the hat with reasonable requests at the drop of that same hat.
The BBC claims and trumpets values, trust and transparency all the time (tell it often enough?), but when this needs to be challenged they too often won’t even answer a question using various exemption tools such as ‘purposes of’, ‘take too long’, etc.

No one should have to feel threatened, but there are limits to what can be done, should be done and the reactions that can and are imposed based on the limitations of reality.
http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/5846/political-correctness-universities
It’s awfully tricky.

Worth going back to that thread:
Andrew Sinclair @andrewpolitics May 28
It seems our decision to speak to one of the people who confronted @DouglasCarswell has provoked a range of opinions.
Andrew Sinclair @andrewpolitics May 28
Personally I see nothing wrong with giving other people’s point of view. I call it free speech and leave the audience to make up their minds
Well, after the BBC has decided who the audience gets to hear from, guided the narrative in their questions and editted in what suits and out what doesn’t before broadcast, eh, Andrew?

Bahar keeps her job – quelle surprise!
University union officer who wrote ‘kill all white men’ tweet will remain in post

So, let me get something straight – she ‘cannot be racist as she is an ethnic minority’.
An ethnic minority In this country, aye.
So by her reasoning, it would be OK for the following scenarios:
1) A white person to go to Nigeria and say things like ‘kill all black people’…
2) Men in a minority (eg. population is 49% men, 51% women) to say all ‘women are useless because they are women’.
3) Non-LGBT residents in a certain district of, say, San Francisco to beat up on LGBT residents?
Oh…errr…let’s not be hasty!
She’s not really thought this through has she? Like most Politically Correct ideas, it is awash with hypocrisy and a complete lack of self-awareness.
And yet this sort of thing has somehow become acceptable in our society. People need to wake up.

BBC and Cartoons of the prophet Muhammad.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-30814555

Hattie Craig. Name and Shame.

But we can have a go at dem Jooz !

‘The BBC Trust initially rejected the complaint – no, really?!’
You’d think such a reputation would make the Trust blush by now.
‘If this was being done by another company, you’d see it on a BBC show such as Watchdog wouldn’t you?’
Well, there’s what’s news, and ‘not news’ (c) A. Newsroom Tealady.
Here’s ‘news’:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-28015456
‘The City regulator has told the BBC it has sent a file to the police.
The plan was to make customers in arrears believe that their outstanding debt had been passed to a law firm, with legal action threatened if the debt was not paid.
The company was using this tactic to maximise collections by piling the pressure on customers’
It will be interesting to see if the story about the BBC’s efforts makes it beyond the backwater that is the BBC Trust publication of appeals.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/our_work/complaints_and_appeals/esc.html
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/our_work/complaints_and_appeals/cab.html
pp6-8, 11-16, 17-19.
From a different time?:

No doubt.
Which is indefensible.
