MIDWEEK OPEN THREAD

I see the BBC leads its new bulletin the day before the General Election with an anti-UKIP story. It’s been quite remarkable to see how the State Broadcaster has done everything possible to marginalise the Party that won the European poll just last year. Anyway, here’s an Open Thread for you.

A school in the east of England will have mock elections for the sixth formers . All political parties will be represented except one that is not allowed . The pupils will protest byspoiling the ballot papers , except the Green supporters .
Hopefully this news will get out but it won’t be on the BBC .

So the DM are making big of a joke Farage told in 2001 about a death at a certain entertainers abode.

Maybe the bBC would prefer that they kept quiet as one of their employees told a not too dissimilar joke in the publication that they happen to be an editor of….

Regional BBC News have avoided this `item` concerning a local resident labour candidates crimnality…. Please pay attention to the pictures featuring Mr.Miliband and also the very blatant postal vote fraud being committed by officials…

    http://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/Grimsby-model-Labour-hopeful-jailed-100-000/story-26430586-detail/story.html

    http://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/Labour-election-candidate-Grimsby-suspended/story-26440427-detail/story.html

Charmaine Bowers, of Laceby Road, was standing for Labour as a district election candidate for the Gainsborough North seat.

But she was jailed for a festival ticket fraud involving more than £100,000.

A spokesperson for West Lindsey District Council said voting in the ward would go ahead as planned on Thursday.
She confirmed all postal votes had been handed in.

She added: “However, if people wanted to petition after the elections or express concerns this can be taken into account afterwards.”

    Surely this isn`t legal??????

Also why did labour and Ed Milliband himself enable and also promote a candidate who had already entered a plea of Guilty prior to the initial Crown Court Appearance in Plymouth .. ??? Also why continue to do so after conviction had already been decided ??? Even after sentence it took three more days for the Labour party to expel her from the party…… By which time she had been in jail for 72 hours possibly canvassing the inmates in preparation for prisoners being given the vote….

After awhile you get tired of typing ‘and if that had been a UKIP candidate..’ don;t you?

No….. But, after a while it becomes obvious that leftards such as yourself are willing to overlook any type of electoral fraud along with having a convicted felon attempting to win election to a position of political power even as Ed ( the man who stabbed his own brother in the back ) Miliband was photographed with her the labour party knew all about her crimes, but they thought they could hoodwink the public as she had recently moved into another area, not only did they attempt to `bus` in this person who was on Crown Court bail…. they put her up for councillor in a town fifty or so miles away from where she actually resided as well…… So that`s where my problem lies….. oh, and don`t forget that the postal vote has already been collated …. prior to the conviction and sentencing of a woman who according to psychiatric reports is more than a `few votes short of election` as well!!!

Indeed he has. It’s always a shame when newcomers breeze in and don’t bother to find out what is going on before they start opining.

Still, among all the things I’ve been accused of being in my life, being a ‘leftard’ probably ranks as the most inappropriate and the funniest.

GCooper … please accpt my humble apologies I did indeed misinterpret your comment and have no excuse for referring to you as a `leftard` …. I saw the `and if it was a UKIP candidate` and was surprised that anyone except for the usual BBC nightshift trolls were at it again… posting whilst everyone else is asleep…. Sorry about that…

    Am I being pedantic? Probably.

The BBC has a glossary of election terms. It’s useful.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2015-32613441

But on election day, I don’t think it is appropriate to include the term ‘tactical voting’, along with the description ‘This is when people vote not for the party they really support, but for another party in order to keep out a more disliked rival.’

This is poor. We wouldn’t want people voting exclusively UKIP in the north to kick Labour out!

Wherever you are, have a good day today – a few hours of unbiased broadcasting (surely). Friday will be a day of reflection – An anniversary, 70 years on. [My Grandmother was 30 on VE day,100 and still going strong(ish)]; and the post election BBC offerings to sift through.

It’s time for me to come off the fence:

Vote tactically – Vote UKIP, whichever constituency you are in. 🙂

somehow i feel the BBC will be throwing out the V ote E d meme if enough votes are gained to allow him to get the keys to number ten…. after he hands the keys to number 11 and an inflated budget portfolio to that awful Sturgeon hag who intends to bleed the UK dry and undermine and stagnate the politics of westminster in preparation for yet another Scottish referendum once her work is done…

I am listening to the Today programme. Do the BBC know something? The business section is currently covering Grexit/Greek debt handling, from Brussels, with a chap saying the only way for the EU ‘regions’ to succeed globally (G7 table) is through the closer integration route, etc etc. Business is apparently (still!) solidly pro-‘closer’.. Are the BBC even now moving on to ‘handling’ our EU membership referendum?

    • Manonclaphamomnibus says:

Er no just stating facts. The problem the Greeks have along with everyone else in the Euro is their economies are stuck. The debtors nations are held in aspic compared to the creditor nation of Gemany. There are basically two ways out.the first is for the to disband the Euro then everyone could float their currencies against each other. The other option is to have a federal Europe such that both fiscal and monetary controls operate across the piste.
If you understand the issues you may find the reporting less intimidating.

I notice BBC London tv ‘news where you are’ completely ignores this story this morning…

Police raid six London houses over ‘cold-calling scam connected to terrorism in Syria’

    http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/police-raid-six-london-houses-over-coldcalling-scam-connected-to-terrorism-in-syria-10229129.html

‘Counter terror detectives today arrested seven people…. At one address officers also arrested a 46-year-old woman in connection with an unrelated investigation into a 15-year-old school girl from Bethnal Green who is suspected of travelling to join Islamic State militants in Syria in December.’

The BBC preferring instead to go with ‘dozens of Hackney residents may not be able to vote’

‘Dozens’ being a BBC number down from yesterday evening when ‘hundreds’ were apparently going to be prevented from voting.

I sense some BBC narrative building on the vote registration thing – perhaps we will soon hear calls for voter registration to be directly linked to the doling out of UK passports?

As for the terrorism – very much a case of that tricky decision : news/not news.

A quick watch of BBc Breakfast before I popped down to the polling station. Thankfully I did watch it because they explained there were council elections as well so I would get two ballot papers. Wow close one I may have got confused otherwise.

Liebour canversers have just been up the Road they didn’t knock here. Must have seen the St. George cross flying.
Back at the BBc they are running what now seems to be standard operating procedure after any disaster. The aid doesn’t appear to be getting through story. Well after the infrastructure has been destroyed there would be logistic difficulties, wouldn’t there. Filling helicopters with reporters probably doesn’t really help much either.

      • More Like The Soviet Bloc Every Day says:

I actually really like Tikka Masala and it was invented in Scotland too apparently so it’s all right to keep that. As to the VD thing, I agree with UKIP, the NHS should be a NATIONAL health service, not an international health service. And this is the key thing with this political movement in the UK and all over Europe, the idea of nationhood, which has been so derided in recent decades, is coming back, all over Europe. And nation states are actually very good things and historically have been very successful, especially if they’re democracies. Nations mean (or should mean) a shared culture and a shared society and a shared system of governance and indeed a shared health service (and ideally a shared sense of humour). Your country or nation is like your extended family and you look after your own first. You wouldn’t let any Tom, Dick or Harry live with you and your family for nothing only unless perhaps they were relatives. It’s the same with nation states. I wouldn’t expect to be looked after for nothing in a foreign country.

UKIPs policies actually make concrete sense too. Out of Europe, govern your own country, make your own laws, control your own borders, be capable of defending yourselves properly, and most importantly: no car parking charges for hospitals.

As it happens, many of UKIPs policies seem to have been coopted by Labour and the Tories. I wonder why? I suppose if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! 😉

Every EU citizen could have access to the BBC without having to pay the license fee under plans being considered by Brussels. According to the Daily Express European bureaucrats are planning to allow Brits on holiday to be able to watch catch up services, but this will mean anyone in the EU can access the service.

Lest anybody be fooled, the EU couldn’t care less whether British licence fee payers are able to watch the BBC abroad.

They recognise that the BBC, with its masquerade of being ‘fair, impartial and balanced’ that the charter and licence fee bestows on it, is a powerful propaganda tool that can be used to indoctrinate many more throughout Europe if they can access it freely too.

If our politicians had any real morality and ethics they would have privatised this vile organisation long ago and let them try and survive on their own merit. In the meantime our society continues to crumble and dissolve.

The BBC is a cancer on our society.

Al Beeb reporting that the RN has rescued 110 so called ‘migrants’ of a dingy that was about to ‘sink’ off the coast of Libya.
It sounds verity suspicious. Why are all this vessels ‘sinking’ off Libya, or are they being deliberately scuttled?
Its going to get worse, and the EU appear to unable to do anything about it.

On the BBC 2 Daily Politics TV programme, did you notice how many times they played the edited audio clip of Nigel Farage saying “[…] we are incapable […]”? I didn’t notice anything similar for any of the other parties. Thus, are you really going to be fair to a party who wants to, effectively, end the source of some of your income?
