START THE WEEK OPEN THREAD

Here you go, a new Open Thread. I see the BBC are virtually orgasmic about the latest UKIP “revelation” and I heard them discussing on the Today programme whether there was a core UKIP support that is indeed homophobic and racist. Plus ca change. Meanwhile, BBC doing all they can to suggest that a devout Muslim has been taken hostage by coffee extremists in Sydney! The floor is yours…

I couldn’t really bring myself to watch the Sports Personality of the Year award show last night, but did see the starting segment. The advance trailing and the choice of potential winners just turned me off.

Quite a few came from what I would describe as worthy yet minority sports and several I had either never heard of or fell into the category of having to delve back into the old memory bank to recall what they actually did (Lizzy Yarnell for instance won gold at the Winter Olympics but hasn’t done much of note since).

How can some of these be classified as personalities OF THE YEAR? Maybe they did interview well at the time, or match expectations at the time but that doesn’t constititute personality of the year status!

The whole thing has just become horribly outdated and much too bland. Why, for instance, was Ronnie O’Sullivan not given the chance to win something? He represents a popular sport, has been pretty successful at it and has something about him, surely?

What this ceremony really needed was some transparency around the criteria for entry, and transparency around the results. Both were lacking… who chose the entrants, what were the measures for success and how many voted for each I wondered?

Well nomination for entry used to be done by a poll of press sports journalists. Then suddenly the BBC had a fit that it was all looking far too blokey and off-message. Now we have a BBC sponsored Common Purpose box ticking panel to select who it is we should be allowed to vote for.

Watch this space – I forsee a time when the BBC moves to cut out the public vote element in favour of something more to their liking. Already I noted a BBC News Channel anchor muse rather dejectedly : “Doesn’t a public vote just mean the most popular sportsman gets to win?” Seems the seeds of doubt are already sown. By instinct the BBC can’t trust the public to decide.

Being professional sport at this level is the most competitive race (in all senses) to be seen as the best on merit (drug cheats excepted), it will be interesting if future title winners feel that being accorded it on the basis of a BBC LGBT advisor’s Calvin Klein’s getting a bit moist is quite the peer accolade they are seeking.

Still, if another raft of BBC execs can tuck away some lucre by using public money to secure public donations to the BBC, the unique funding aspects of the BBC will remain preserved.

Well, the tortuous efforts in the last two years – polling 5% and 8% – to get Mo Farrar to the Personality was painful to observe. The public did fail to do their duty and the establishment found it very difficult to hide their feelings about the voting public.

One is sure everyone’s first thoughts are with the hostages.

Certainly the police and authorities grappling with their safe release.

I don’t know for certain who is responsible as that is playing out, likely just as planned, but the efforts devoted to who it isn’t (based on poor graphic design, amongst other things) by almost all media is astounding. Victims more an afterthrought..

Not bias as such, but as with SPOTY so the same applies with Strictly where defined measures for success and greater transparency is needed.

In circumstances where people are invited to phone in and vote, and the cost of phoning in is quite high with a suspicion that either the BBC or a BBC organisation of choice (be it a charity or whatever) might be deriving some financial benefit from the volume of calls made, then there should be some onus at the very least on the BBC to define properly the measures for success and the voting outcomes?

Some might say that Strictly has lost a degree of integrity these last couple of weeks with the voting outcomes, and some transparency might help to assuage some of these concerns?

Let’s be honest, if the spotlight shone elsewhere the BBC would be among the first to castigate the organisation and event concerned.

    Not ‘changes’… evolves.

And it is entirely legitimate if in good faith as facts change too.

Thing is, say one thing often enough that turns out to be more scare than accurate, you start to get a reputation for pushing propaganda, especially on the back of secret ‘settled science’ gatherings.

And it doesn’t help that the BBc has a habit of ‘evolving’ stories via overwriting what they pushed before, so it no longer registers.

Except on the internet, or if dragged from archive.

Luckily for the BBC, they still control ‘the now’, no matter how inaccurate or rigged their versions are.

Such trust and transparency perceptions may be on thin ice now.

BBC R4 news at 6am reporting on the UKIP candidate, Perry Smith’s, resignation, informed us what a disastrous week it had been for Nigel Farage starting with the ‘mocking’ of his claim that roads were getting jammed up because of immigration.

Funny, the only ‘mocking’ I heard was from the Left, so it’s interesting that the BBC should choose to portray it as a general reaction.

Humphrys was nauseating this morning on “The Today Programme” after the 8 a.m. headlines when they started talking about UKIP’s personnel problems. His tone of voice changed, there was chortling, derision, almost as if he always knew that the alleged UKIP ‘train-wrecks’ were going to happen. He never discusses the Labour Party and the useless Miliband in such a tone.

The UKIP man, called Mr Wolf, put up a fair defence. On the subject of wolves, would Humphrys and the biased BBC ever admit the argument that, as with their own reports of Islamic violence, the problem people within UKIP are not typical of the party but merely “lone wolves”?

Better still, how about some sort of BBC ‘feature’ on a local mosque leader that says, actually, you know, we don’t preach about or condone violence undertaken in the name of Islam, everyone in my mosque and local community disagrees with it, and no-one in my mosque or local community has gone to Syria to fight.

BBC too frightened to talk about immigrants (says John Humphreys in the Daily Mail today (he of Radio 4 today fame). And then he goes a lot further in stating that Labour got it wrong by underestimating the amount of immigrants by ten times (here to save face is referring only to The Poles who have since arrived and settled). This is all obvious stuff but why is it that a BBC presenter has to wait until he is on the edge of retirement to state the really blindingly obvious? Like Paxo before who retired from BBC Newsnight, they seem only able to speak freely on the point or ‘retirement’ when most of us are only too aware of the problems for at least ten years. That speaks volumes of the BBC imperial censure that nobody can speak their mind on any subject the BBC disapproves. This is state censorship by any other name. Humphrey is not the first, but the BBC will speedily retire him now for speaking out on an urgent public concern.

    • Doublethinker says:

I agree that the article is a confession that the BBC deliberately chose not to report or scrutinise the policy of mass immigration for a decade. Humphrys says that was because they didn’t want to offend anyone! The BBC shows no such concern about offending anyone who isn’t from the left, eg UKIP, or Lady Thatcher and the millions who think she was a great PM. Of course we know why the BBC chose to look the other way, it was because they did ,and still do, fully support the policy of mass immigration even though this had no democratic manadate from the British people.
So we have a senior BBC insider confessing that the corporation deliberately chose not to report ,and indeed to mislead the public ,about the most serious issue facing this country since WW2. Surely this must destroy any residual trust that the British people have in the BBC.
The BBC is despicable and it must be got rid of as soon as possible to prevent it from doing more damage to our democracy.

    • johnnythefish says:

I think Humphrys is being disingenuous and putting up a false argument – this is just a continuation of the BBC/Labour agenda which has re-framed the immigration debate as a purely EU issue, quietly sidelining the bigger threat to our culture arising from the huge number of immigrants from the Indian sub-continent and sub-Saharan Africa.

They are already questioning the decision to go in with force and deal with this evil perpitrator……Not one word of praise for the brave members of the emergency services who risked their lives to protect the innocent or one word about the life threatening plight of the victims of this wanker.

Sometimes I really do think that this bbbc/inbbc is nothing more than a subversive, treasonous organisation. They report, say and write things that are so destructive to the common good……..

The sooner the organisation is cleansed from top to bottom the better…….

Or do I have distorted thinking?

One of the best things about our country is that we don’t fall for the terrorists’ ploys and go round smashing up corner shops or burning down mosques. Retaliation against the wider Muslim community is what the terrorists want, its why they do it after all.

They want to start a sectarian war.

For a number of reasons minority communities have been oppressed by multiculturalism and see themselves as living with in distinct, separate community. Add in a cultural conformity that is enforced by deep seated emotions such as shame and familial loyalty and there is a distinct reluctance for the average Muslim to step outside the box and integrate. It just doesn’t pay for them to do so as the one thing they really don’t want to do is to bring shame on those that they love.

Add to that a growing number of nut jobs determined to bring their Third World forms of oppression here and the problem just gets worse.

To counter this the wider community needs to educate them, through whatever means , to accept that they don’t need to stay within their own third world islands and can be just as happy away from them. There are plenty of those who do BTW but the ‘multicultural police’ aren’t that keen to let the rest of the country see Muslims like that.

If you have spent anytime with Muslims or in Muslim countries then you’ll know that whilst 10 thousand half-wits are burning down churches and the wrong embassies after been wound up by the latest nothing 10 million Muslims are rolling their eyes and getting on with their desperate Third World lives. They keep quiet because, despite being the majority, they know the consequences of disobeying that demonic portrayal of Allah so loved by the nut jobs. Just look at what happened to that Army School in Peshawar yesterday. Infamy beyond belief and its not even the first time Muslims have done this; Beslan should never be forgotten.

I’ve no solutions to this problem but blaming the majority for the minority is a failsafe way of fanning the flames. All it does is push those closer to the border of nut-jobbery across it and thereby increases the number of terrorists to deal with.

Yes, PEGIDA, Patriotic Europeans against the Islamization of the West, have been subjected to the usual castigation from the smug leftist German TV . The Dresden protesters have adopted a very simple media policy. They simply tell any ARD, ZDF hack who approaches them to “fuck off”, as anything PEGIDA said would be misrepresented. The “German Dimblebum”, Günther Jauch seemed to take this personally on his show on Sunday, inceduluous that anyone could think that anything other than the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth could flow from his lips. Usual crap that PEGIDA was scared to expose its shameful ideology to public scrutiny etc.,etc. The massive influx of refugees from Syria is causing disquiet amongst the “hoi polloi” who are not so joyous about enforced vibrancy and enrichment as the progressive elites think they should be. In fact, I think the ZDF has been running “Hallo Toleranz”-themed programmes recently.
Initially mistrustful and anxiety-stricken peasants in a Bavarian village come to realise that a newly returned Jihadist beheader from Syria has seen the error of his ways and just wants to become a cowherd and share in the bucolic idyll. The village priest/doctor/teacher is usually on hand to provide moral lectures about tolerance and how not to “other” one’s Mitbürger mit Migrationshintergrund.

Oh it is not employers undercutting the NWM that is the problem. It is those “workers” who work as sub contractors (at best or just off the books) that under cut decent wages. If you have somebody who costs you £15 per hour to employ and somebody who would cost you £7.50 per hour if you are unscrupulous who are you going to employ? That the former has a home and bills to pay for while the latter lives a dozen to house and sends money home to a cheaper economy doesn’t seem to factor in to Westminster’s calculations. The same bunch of idiots who are wondering where all the British tradesmen have gone without noticing that kids that went into trades now are told to go university. And the trained tradesmen we do have are emigrating as fast as they can get their papers cleared because the country is going to the dogs. WHY IS IT SUCH A MYSTERY? WHY? WHY?

Nearly every time I switch Radio 4 on during the day there’s some lefty agenda being ‘debated’.

This afternoon it was Beyond Belief where – and I know you’ll find this hard to believe – race relations in the US were being discussed.

The usual one-sided ‘blacks as eternal victims’ view was harmoniously agreed by all present in the studio and Al Sharpton unanimously voted as the leader all in the black community should be turning to.

Not a hint that maybe black people should be taking more responsibility for their perceived predicament, as per the not uncommon views of this black guy (posted at the end of the last open thread but worth a re-run here):

Then at the end we had the uber solution (note: put forward by the programme’s host), that what is really needed is ‘social justice’ for all disadvantaged groups, requiring more government spending on education, welfare etc.

‘Social justice’, eh? To you and me that’s re-distribution of wealth – you know, that old communist ideal – and it’s being promoted more and more by the BBC into the public consciousness. Along with anti-capitalism, it’s one of the twin pillars of the great global warming myth as we’re now seeing with tens of billions being diverted to ‘developing’ countries to help them fight the CO2 menace.

Never is any alternative right wing view sought because the BBC considers these – and similar – leftist concepts as absolute truths.

You know, BBC, if I want undiluted Guardian propaganda I’ll go out and buy it, but I don’t see why I should be forced to pay for it by you.

And in todays Daily Mail I see the BBC have ‘five Live’ investigation declaring that one in seven arrests were ‘foreign nationals’ (is that racist?) and goes on to to blame the ‘Torys’ for lax border controls (which is untrue as this was Labour bending over backwards accomodating an EU ‘open border’ directive that its very keen on. Also Labour (2006) decided not to join the EU Schengen agreement alerting the police to european petty criminals who inevitably find a soft life on UK benefits ready and waiting this side of the channel. Police have limited powers due to EU rules that encourage criminals into the UK – as we are not allowed to have border controls. Now Yvette Cooper has the nerve to declare that all this is all the fault of UK border controls — something Labour somehow refuses to acknowledge as a national emergency and the BBC is happy to report that we need more EU ‘integration’ to combat ‘crime’. If only that were possible, or true. The BBC is always partial with the truth. We cannot close our borders (under Labour signed EU agreements) whilst Labour has made the UK a haven for criminals of all nationalities to claim asylum and benefits.

The same goes for eating disorders, and fathers rights, they ridiculed fathers4justice, it shows how unbalanced the courts and media is that fathers have to dress up as batman and dangle from buildings just to draw attention to the cause, the bbeb also support maternity leave but say men shouldnt be allowed paternity leave, this is how man hating liberals are bred

The latest “poor me” propaganda, gleefully lapped up by the Islamophile BBC
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-trending-30479306
“she’d seen a woman she presumed was Muslim silently removing her hijab while sitting next to her on the train:
“I ran after her at the train station. I said ‘put it back on” …
    … yeah right!
one has to ask why?, why on earth would you do that?
why pander to the wishes of every imam from here to Mecca?
propagate the subservient Islamic woman narrative?

hmmm … something very orchestrated going on kids
just caught Ch4 News they said quite clearly nobody knows if the tale is true or not.

If it’s a true story did the presumptious woman not consider that maybe the muslim woman welcomed the chance to remove her hijab once she was out of her home?

Liberals only see the short term. Once the West collapses do they really think they will be able to pick up their skinny lattes from Starbucks or get their lentils from Waitrose?

Japan is part of the West, has close security ties with the US and there are many US bases there, yet I can’t think of any Islamist attacks against Japan. I’m sure that there must be a few discontented and unstable Japanese youths who could have been radicalized via the internet. Has this happened?
Perhaps this is one advantage of being a monoculture and keeping immigration down to levels that Cameron said he could achieve. Low immigration does not seem to have harmed Japan economically or socially to any great extent.

I read the Mail article by Humphries. Too little and far too late now to regret the censorship and evasions of the liberal BBC over the last years. The BBC has lost many of us for ever.
I hope it is in an existential crisis. There is always a moment when reform becomes impossible and change is the only answer. In the case of the BBC this means abolition of the tax and letting it sink or swim by it’s own efforts.
The way things are going this moment will apply to the whole of the liberal world. Impossible to reform the only way is to end it’s domination of our culture.
Now is the time to keep harrying and snapping at the heels of the liberal. The liberal has no arguments left except abuse. The liberal is going to lose.

    Newsnight 18mins in.

No Miliband “immigration speech yet. But Ewan gets in UKIP straw argument #54 – this one’s on Eurotax use. £1.5mil to UKIP coffers.

Next, “road to Wigan Pier” meme – “its between Lab / Con”

    This is Bias.

    A must see.

    BBC World tonight included …

Sydney siege where the Beeb found an expert to say that IS’s ideology is that supporters can carry out attacks where they are and don’t need to come to Syria. Well, that’s not ideology it’s tactics. IS’s ideology is Islamic theology and a caliphate. The Beeb did mention the ‘backlash’ though and #illridewithyou.

Then a sympathetic piece on Women without Borders having a get together of jihadist mums to work against radicalisation. The view summed up by the woman saying she didn’t think she was guilty for her son becoming a jihadi, but considered herself and her son as victims! No sympathetic BBC ear though for the mothers of the real victims of jihadi violence.

Room also for a critical piece on Russia’s attitude to gays. If only they threw them to their deaths off buildings or hung them from cranes like the enlightened muslim regimes eh? Instead the Russians call them names and have a law against promoting homosexuality to children. The evil bastards.

Other stuff included the dangers of right wing extremists influencing anti-Islamisation protesters in Germany and the EU interfering on the good side in Turkey’s internal affairs.

    Bias? What bias?

      No Miliband “immigration speech yet”.

One would think ‘Labour leader Exposed as incompetent Intellectual ameoba’ would be top billing as a political story today.

It seems they start young, Sky News reporting a sex attacker possibly as young as 12 has struck 5 times in 10 days, they describe him as ‘Asian’

OK this might imply, he’s Japanese, Chinese, Hindu or Sikh, but that’s a damned sight more than the bBC have done, as the attacks have gone unreported by them. If and when they do they won’t go as far in describing him as such.

Geoff I saw that I’m sure it was on local BBc (North West) but as usual no description . You would have thought a description might have been useful,
Meanwhile this one now seems to be getting big enough for the BBc to not just ignore http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-30478321 Indications were the “Large” counter demonstration was going to be larger than the Peigda turn out however it appears not. Instead the BBc decide to mention a completely different demonstration in Cologne.

BBc Breakfast appears to be referring to Monis as “Gunman ” and “man” but are missing the M word again.

Also back to having a go at banks again “RBS & LLoyds narrowly pass stress test” so they passed it then didn’t they?
