The Truce Is Out There, Somewhere

Curious decision by BBC News to choose a supposed Israeli rejection of a truce as its headline:

Gaza conflict: Israel rejects truce ‘as it stands’

Way way down the article is this single line……

Hamas official Mohamed Nazzal told al-Jazeera TV the ceasefire proposal was “not acceptable at all” in its current form.

So why did the BBC not have a headline saying Hamas rejected the truce?

Especially as John Kerry said:

Israel has not rejected Gaza ceasefire, claims John Kerry

The US secretary of state, John Kerry, denied on Friday night that Israel had rejected the offer of a ceasefire in Gaza, minutes after news broke that Israel’s cabinet had said no to the possibility of a seven-day truce.

Kerry – emerging from a day of negotiations in Cairo, where he had spoken with regional power brokers including the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-Moon – said that nothing had been offered to Israel for its cabinet to reject.

“There was no formal proposal submitted to Israel,” he said. “Let’s make that absolutely crystal clear. Prime Minister [Binyamin] Netanyahu called me a few minutes before this to tell me that that [rejection] was an error, and he’s putting out a statement to that effect … It’s fair to say that Israel had some opposition to some concepts, but that doesn’t mean a proposal by any means.”

The fact that Israel did commit to a truce and wishes to extend it whilst Hamas keeps rocketing says it all…perhaps the BBC have seen the light….this is the latest headline:

Hamas rockets after Israel truce bid

Though why not ‘Palestinian rockets’ just as the BBC reports ‘Palestinian casualties’?

Hamas, damned by their actions and now damned by their supporters’ actions. Evil supports evil.

About 15,000 Hamas supporters marched in London, noticeably present were the CND – with middle aged, middle class white women wearing hijabs in solidarity with the freedom fighters. Then Kenneth Louch’s Jew haters in Left Unity with the usual combination of muslims and socialists. The demonstrations were a defining moment: socialists and supporters of Hamas terrorists fused together in solidarity. Carefully selected which children recently killed deserve support. Pallies ticked all the boxes as victims. No one seemed to worry about Christian children, which is interested considering the poem read out by Michael Rosen about the un named Gaza children. So hey asshole Rosen, how about a poem for the Nigerian children, and get your pals in the BBC to cover it.

The Beeb’s verbal obfuscation seems to reach new heights by the minute.

At present, the opening paragraph of the leading article reads:
‘Palestinian militant group Hamas has announced a 24-hour ceasefire after Israel ended an earlier truce amid continuing rocket fire from Gaza.’
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-28511075

So it wasn’t the ‘continuing rocket fire from Gaza’ that ended the truce but rather the Israeli response? As Honestreporting have put it in the past ‘It all started when Israel fired back’.

Are the Beeb stupid or do they think we are?

The Hamas ceasefire was meant to start at 2pm local time. At 2.15pm rockets were being fired from Gaza to Israel. Will the BBC report this ?

They are a bunch of disgraceful, devious and resentful scum. Two weeks ago I posted that Edwards had rounded off the 10 o clock news with “Israel had continued to bomb Gaza despite a cease fire proposal” snidely failing to include that hamas had rejected the proposal out of hand and that he had had to state that earlier in the broadcast.

You could sense the resentment in the t***s voice and body language at the time.

Noted that the newspaper reviews on B.H this morning were pretty much about anything but Gaza.
Given that the BBC have spoken about nothing else this week, you`d be surprised.
Well not really-for Hamas are now back to firing rockets, as Israel maintains a truce/ceasefire for the moment.
Therefore best not to quibble about the whys and wherefores about who does what and to who…poor Hamas need to reflect, and it`s best that nobody at the BBC mentions who the aggressor is at the moment…
The likes of Gyles Brandreth are not so cynical-but Paddy O Connells string pullers certainly are…would not be surprised if they ease off on the nasty Israelis thwarting the peace process, until they retaliate-then it will all be Israels fault as per.

Look at the map in the article Gaza has roads and built up areas. Israel is virtually blank. In fact there are communities along the Gaza border.

Errm…. I suspect that’s because the map in the final link is really just a map of Gaza, so there is very little detail of what’s on the Israeli side, apart from a dot marking the position of Sderot.

I suppose you mean in this article:
      http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-28504509

And yes, you are absolutely right. None are indicated except for Sderot, even though all the communities along the Gaza border are precisely those under Gaza rockets. Also, the Gaza tunnels lead to these communities, and have already produced several attempted attacks, fortunately thwarted.

For the BBC, the communities don’t exist. Correspondingly, the attacks on them remain abstract. Nothing detailed to see here; just move along to the next verbal obfuscation against Israel.

        Yep, that’s the one.

Despite the fact that I think the BBC’s coverage of the Israel-Gaza conflict is more one-sided than a Mobius strip (interesting things, if anyone hasn’t come across them before !), in this particular case, I don’t think there’s really an ulterior motive to the map, it’s just a map of Gaza.

However, having re-read the article, I really can’t see the point of the map at all…. it adds nothing to any element of the article, and, unless I’ve just missed it, it isn’t even referenced from within the article.

No ulterior motive, but it still reflects their totally one-sided habits. A Mobius strip indeed. They set in motion on one side and never reach the other side.

My major problem is the innocent victims video.
Here’s some ‘journalist’ questions Ian Pannell might have asked.

    Hey photogenic old lady:
“What did you think when Hamas was building a tunnel under your home”?
“What do you think of Hamas using your neighbourhood to mount a war against Israel”?
“Hamas refuses an unconditional ceasefire. Do you agree”?
“Do you think Palestinians should make war against Israel”?
“Would it have been a good thing if Hamas had used the tunnels in time and killed one hundred Israelis”?
“Do you think the cement for the tunnels could better have been used for civil construction”?
“If you had Israel’s weapons what would you have done”?

    • John Andersn says:

one amendment – the apparent plan was to use dozens of the tunnels all at once for a mass attack on villages and kibbutzes near the border – some tunnels run for up to 3 miles, right up to or under the villages. Literally hundreds of Hamas terrorists would emerge, heavily armed, and the death toll could be huge, plus lots of kidnappings. Imagine for example dozens of children kidnapped.

The intended timing ? – possibly this September, during a Jewish festival.

So, ask the old lady “Were you happy about the idea of a sneak mass attack aimed at killing hundreds or even more people”

I too have heard the date and scale for use of the tunnels. Hamas’ plans were truly chilling. How any BBC reporter on the ground can fail to understand why Israel has to destroy these tunnels wherever they run and still weep over Hamas beats me.

Interestingly, at around noon UK time today, the time the latest ‘cease-fire’ was reportedly due to have taken place, I happened to have the TV tuned to Sky News. The sheer astonishment of one of the reporters in a building in Gaza was a delight to hear, when a shell of some kind landed almost literally right in front of her. Perplexed, she turned to someone else in the TV crew for some kind of an explanation…..the gist of which was, if you took away all of the obfuscation, it was more than likely a Palestinian missile which had landed right next to them, fired from within Gaza. So that was all right, then.

Now, whether that piece of video will turn up on some little-known website, or TV station somewhere, ‘sans commentary’ or with a subbed commentary….who knows.

No, what you mean is they broke their own ceasefire and started bombing Israel again.

Although I support Israel , they are always going to have to do most of their work with one hand tied behind their backs. If during WWII the Germans use to have underground microphones to try & detect our boys from digging tunnels from POW camps to freedom, surely today, there is the technology for the Israelis to use the more sophisticated equipment to find these tunnels ? Then use another bit of WWII technology ,the Barnes Wallis earthquake bomb, to finish them off . Simple`s .
