In an idle moment (one amongst many, mostly real-ale induced) a thought suddenly occurred to me: the Labour administrations 1997-2010 must be the least examined or commented upon by the BBC, in retrospective terms, in the Corporation’s history. And by a country mile at that.

I am struggling to understand why.

In the run-up to the 2005 general election I remember reading (sorry no link) that labour had insisted that media coverage was to be about the future, and not an examination of previous policies. Not surprising considering labours record. Disgracefully much of the media, especially the BBC, agreed to labours demand.

Maybe the media still thinks that way?

Strange how the lame stream media swoons and gushes about the Arab Spring ( Nightmare ) muslims crying out for ‘fweedom’, but when it comes to Europeans crying out for democracy ? no such luck !!

From what I’ve learned over the past couple of days, Farage sweats a lot, loves Putin, is a conspiracy theorist and hates people, well, practically all Mankind !!

By the end of the week he’ll probably be described as the Son of Satan and that classic standby, compared to Adolf Hitler !!

Actually, a lovely comment. Exactly proving the bias that the bbbc ALWAYS demonstrates to anyone who isn’t displaying a nice, healthy far left attitude. I have to admit to being privately quite surprised at how dimbledoor managed to remain reasonably in the middle at the debate. Further, I notice that now that the debate is over (and no matter who comments the fact is that it was won handsomely by Farage) the bbbc have done what they always do and quickly move on and do what they can to not mention that particular subject ever again

The BBC and most of the commentariat are at a loss to explain why the people didn’t follow the script and gave victory to Clegg. They don’t understand that it wasn’t so much the singer as the song that won it for Farage. Equally they don’t realise whilst they may welcome mass immigration, huge welfare bills as a mark of our compassion, the rest of us don’t. Basically most of the political classes and all of the commentariat , with the BBC in the van, are OUT OF TOUCH with what real Brits think and want.
As to the latest suggestion from the BBC, reported in the Telegraph today, that there should a universal tax imposed to pay for the corporation as people migrate to new technology, it just shows how OUT OF TOUCH they have become. The Tories must resist this and any other suggestion that allows the parasitic BBC to continue squeeze the life out of the country by promoting its self serving liberal left agenda. New technology will bring about the end of the BBC and no sensible Tory will do anything to help the floundering BBC.

        • Unfortunately the BBC would rather listen to the views of the Polly Toynbees’s of the world…rather than asking the proles themselves. Farage may not speak for the man in the street but he has the understanding of our concerns and aspirations rather than the smugly comfortable affluent “new aristocracy” who like to dictate how we live our lives but wouldn’t dream of standing in line with us or sending their kids to the same schools. Going to the same hospitals. Living where we live. I bet Polly and her BBC chums don’t live in “lively and diverse” communities…

Perhaps, perhaps not, but he knows how to speak TO the man in the street. I have little doubt that if ever Polly Toynbee, Shouty Boy Jones or any of the BBC hacks ever condescended to visit my home town to exchange views with the locals, they would get very short shrift indeed. Perhaps BBC journos, to help them fulfill their remit to be impartial, should periodically spend a few months working for local paper in working class towns with large immigrant populations – like Keighley or Burnley or, well there are many others.

She was in the Labour govt’ when that party of integrity opened the doors to immigration ( to “rub the Right’s nose in diversity” as one of their spokesman once admitted) to such an overwhelming degree it has caused racial tension.

Yvette is like someone purposely stabbing you with a Stanley knife and then shouting “Look at me! Look at me! I’m getting a plaster for that nasty wound!”

              Pathetic.

The NHS story where Lord Warner suggested a charge of £10 to use it was regarded as being “a shame” in that he was a Labour Lord by one of the “comedians” on the panel.

It was very, very noticeable how the BBC quickly dropped the second Nigel Farage vs Nick Clegg debate/story after Clegg got trumped even more by Farage.

Clegg’s constant assertion that Farage wanted to take Britain back to the 19th century was quite daft in view of the fact the EU itself is a 19th century idea. They finally achieved it in the late 20th century, using WWII as an excuse to get it done.

For some inexplicable reason the BBC story omits any reference to that expression of greeting associated with the “Religion of Peace”(TM) and does not identify the gunmen, though reading the story it’s clear the BBC know which group carried it out and why.

      • Agreed. I cant find it on the BBC site maybe I’m not looking hard enough. The Belgium riots were major (25-40,000 protesters, not all in confrontation with the law, but water cannon WAS used and the US embassy locked down) against EU austerity and “social dumping.” That is importing cheap foreign workers at the expense of local (indigenous) labour. I have never heard of that expression before though it has to be said its pretty much what has happened in the east of England where I live.

Maybe it was because the HYS writers almost to man made it clear than they didn’t give damn what this lot said. It was a British issue and the BBC should stop wasting their time and ours by showing it…Maybe the BBC got the message?

Philby, and the enemy within Britain, then and now.

Roger Scruton, has written about about the phenomenon on the political ‘Left’ of ‘Oikophobia’ (repudiation of inheritance and home). The most recent BBC programme this week, ‘Kim Philby’ BBC 2, on the Cambridge spies (Philby, Burgess, Maclean, etc) reminded me of what Roger Scruton had written 10 years ago:-

“As George Orwell pointed out, intellectuals on the Left are especially prone to it [oikophobia], and this has made them willing agents of foreign powers. The Cambridge spies offer a telling illustration of what oikophobia has meant for our country. And it is interesting to note that the recent BBC ‘docudrama’ constructed around that deplorable episode neither examined the realities of their treason nor addressed the suffering of the millions of the East European victims, but merely endorsed the oikophobia that had caused the spies to act as they did. The resulting portrait of English society, culture, nationhood and loyalty as both morally reprehensible and politically laughable is standard BBC fare -prolefeed, as Orwell described it in ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four’.”

So the Clegg Farage debate gets just a 90 second mention in Have I Got News for You. Of course had Farage lost it would have got 90% of the program.

However there was time for an uncomplementary impression of Farage from the smug unfunny Merton and also note the two bug eyed caricatures of Farage on the backdrop. No other caricature of other party leader is as unflattering, even that of Salmond.

BBC. England’s top division now features 40 Muslim players and they are having a significant effect on the culture(??) … of the game.
On 5 February, 2012, Newcastle United played Aston Villa at St James’ Park and one moment symbolised the impact Muslim players were having on the Premier League.
After 30 minutes, Demba Ba scored for the home side. He raced to the corner flag and was joined by Senegalese compatriot Papiss Cisse. The two devout Muslims then sank to their knees in prayer …

obviously they ve changed the culture at the BBC,(because of cowardice).

How many players in the premier league?

I think it was the Spectator a few weeks ago that recognised that Miliband was beginning to suffer from ‘Crisis Fatigue’.

Weird Ed, like the boy who cried wolf, has spawned the ‘Cost of living Crisis’, ‘The Housing Crisis’, ‘The A&E Crisis’, ‘The Flooding Crisis’, ‘The (pay day loans) Quiet Crisis’, ‘The Representation of Women Crisis’, ‘The Youth Crisis’, ‘The Climate Crisis’, ‘The Banking Crisis’, ‘The Middle Class Crisis’ (and as Miliband runs out of steam, no doubt the ‘Crisis Crisis’).

Clearly not to be outdone, and in the same way they adopted Labour’s ‘Bedroom Tax’, the BBC jump on the bandwagon.

Yesterday morning, very early yesterday morning actually!, Five Live were discussing the money required to repair the millions of potholes that we now have. A story that the idiot presenter at the BBC christened, ‘The Roads Crisis’.

Once again the BBC and Labour in are in step, joined at the hip.

I really don’t know why Miliband is advertising for a press guru – he might as well let the BBC do the job for him and save £42k

I’m just comparing the coverage of the Harperson promotion of the Paedophile Information Exchange, and her very senior position in the Liebour party, and the issue with Maria Miller the Culture Minister.

It seems that the BBC are not wasting any opportunity to report the wrong doings of a junior minister when they took every opportunity to remain silent on the Harperson issue, only reporting it when they had no other choice.

Maria Miller has apologised on several occasions, she is not in a senior position like Harperson, and in my opinion the allegations are nothing like as serious.

Something tells me that so long as the Liebour party want to run with this then the BBC will be their running mates.

More obvious bias which has gone unstated.

I agree on the comparison with Harman as far as the BBC’s coverage goes.
However, Miller’s actions and reactions trying to deal with the fall out makes any insincere (now worthless MP to house) apology without value and her position untenable.
She should not be in a position of power or influence, no matter how junior.
How other parties and their media PR departments rationalise abuses by those more senior still is for them to get held to account on.
I’d have thought the BBC would like it just fine to have a compromised Minister dealing with their future.
Personally I’d like her replaced pronto with someone squeaky clean, competent and with a smattering of understanding whose interests Parliament is actually meant to represent.

I don’t disagree that Miller has done wrong, but she has not done wrong on a scale like Harriet Harperson, and she’s in no way as senior.
Neither of them should be in any position of power but Harperson has got away with it despite being as guilty as sin, because the BBC refused to cover the story.

The point here though is not whether Miller is guilty or the degree of that misdemeanour, but the bias of the BBC in the way it has reported both stories.

Thoughtful… What a load of absolute nonsense you’ve written.

Miller is typical of the troughing vermin that occupies the House of Clowns. I cannot be bothered to restate, chapter and verse, the history of her behaviour, but had any other individual, such as a Police Officer, Doctor, Teacher, social worker etc, behaved as she had done, they would have been sacked AND prosecuted. However in Westminster La-La land ,you can commit fraud, theft, attempt to pervert the course of justice, and all other manner of offences, but if you apologise that’s all right then?

If the people of Basingstoke had anything about them, they would de-select her.

I believe Cameron should sack her now.
To compare her behaviour to that of Harman is ridiculous.

What has seniority got to do with dishonesty? How has Harmen got away with it because BBC didn’t cover the story adequately?

Agreed-Miller is just the kind of nomark who gets a seat in cabinet these days.
As “Culture Secretary” , her job is not needed or wanted at all-`twas a plum given to David Mellor in 1992 by Major and has been a costly, sinister pile of crap ever since.
I myself would ceremonially burn Tessa Jowells number 666 shirt by way of seeking closure re this non-job.
Jowell the very apotheosis of what a Culture Secretary would be-useless, crap with her finances and Harmans sob sister.
But would Tessa agree to wear the shirt again before we set it alight?…some public servant huh?…despite it being a good chance to raise issues of climate change or women being beacons of oppression or such, I bet she`d be off to Berlusconis yacht instead.

One of the few pro-EU arguments Cleggie could find (all of them btw being negative boo-scares) was some guff about European Arrest Warrents.

Meaning -theoretically – we could merrily repatriate back here to the UK all our murderers… er, cable thieves, plastic card scammers, pickpockets, counterfeit vodka distillers, etc etc…

And does this work both ways? Can we shift continental criminals back to the EU?

Not when it comes to Italian Mafia bosses.

So post-Farage-Clegg the orders have gone out to make it so. (Lawyers permitting, that is)

‘Convicted Mafia boss Domenico Rancadore will not be extradited back to Italy, Westminster Magistrates’ Court has ruled.’

‘In an original draft, Mr Riddle [District judge Howard Riddle] said he was satisfied the European arrest warrant was valid and that extradition was “compatible with the defendant’s convention rights, including prison conditions”.’

“Lutfur Rahman, mayor of Tower Hamlets, dubs the BBC “Islamophobic bullies.” This ought to show the BBC that such charges are merely a deflection tactic, designed to cast the onus away from a person accused of wrongdoing (i.e., an Islamic jihadist, or in this case, a corrupt official) and onto the accuser.
The irony here is that the BBC is an indefatigable trafficker in such libels, and consistently, in other contexts cheerfully repeats the charges of “racism” and “Islamophobia” that Lutfur Rahman’s Islamic supremacist coreligionists and their Leftist allies make in order to demonize foes of jihad terror.

“Thanks for contacting us regarding ‘News Briefing’ on BBC Radio 4.
We note you felt it was incorrect to refer to the “Poll Tax” in our round up of historic events happening on 31 March.
We appreciate your concerns and would assure you we always strive to use terminology that is both factual and impartial. However, “Poll Tax” was a widely and commonly used term for the Community Charge at the time of it’s introduction, so we don’t believe it was incorrect.”
The BBC is still at the same game today with the ‘bedroom tax’, but somehow didn’t like to call Lee Rigby’s killing as ‘murder’ even though that was widely and commonly used.
    Keep complaining folks …

“When summarising historic events your audience is by definition likely to include those not aware of the facts from their own experience. These people rely on your explanation including the definition of terms you use. Using the term ‘poll tax’ which has a specific and clear meaning will mislead people into thinking that the community charge was a poll tax, because you have chosen to call it that. Many people still trust the BBC and still accept its statements at face value and so can be misled.”

‘both appeared in a BBC Open Space documentary entitled, More Sex Please, We’re British which argued for the liberalisation of censorship laws.’
I wonder if Ms. Harman or Mr. Dromey were guest contributors?

Still not clear how the off-airwaves move was going to save much money as the only difference is the method of distribution; hardly a significant % or programming spend. And PR is neatly covered by the DM.
The point regarding ‘about’ vs. ‘for’ kids is an interesting one.
Even if unenforceable watershed timings are applied, iPlayer/online makes a mockery of these anyway.
There’s also the odd audience motivations. If about kids but not for them, who would be the audience?
Given its history, the appeal to many in the BBC and the fanbase it serves does seem predictable.

It would appear that Maria Millers ‘SPAD’ ‘threatening’ the press is only half a story.
Millers father on being released from hospital recovering from a serious illness was door stepped by a journo and given a particularly hard time. The hack didn’t know about this, but obviously no one would be pleased if this happened to their parent and the threats made against the paper apparently concerned this.
It’s not unreasonable to expect hacks to behave in the manner set out in the Leveson report, in this instance it would appear that cross purposes intervened, and the threat was made about this issue, not the reporting of expenses.

    • John Anderson says:

No – the hack was trying to stand up a story that Miller had been misusing expenses by claiming on a house as her second home when her parents were in fact living there. The hack did not know that the father had just come out of hospital.

If miller had a complaint – she should have made it to the journo herself, or to an editor. She should not be using a person paid out of our taxes to do this for her. And the person should never have mentioned Leveson – or rather, “flagged up” Leveson. Anyone listening to the conversation is bound to regard it as threatening in tone. “Lay off or else”.

Thanks for contacting us regarding BBC News Channel’s reporting on 2nd April 2014.

We understand you’re unhappy with recent coverage on the deportation of Yashika Bageera as you found it to be biased and failed to report on all areas of the story.

We can assure you of our commitment to impartial reporting. We seek to provide the information which will enable viewers to make up their own minds; to show the political reality and provide the forum for debate, giving full opportunity for all viewpoints to be heard.

It is not always possible or practical to reflect all the different opinions on a subject within individual reports. Editors are charged to ensure that over a reasonable period they reflect the range of significant views, opinions and trends in their subject area.

The BBC does not seek to denigrate any view, nor to promote any view. It seeks rather to identify all significant views, and to test them rigorously and fairly on behalf of the audience.

We regret on this occasion you felt the need to complain and be assured that we’ve registered your concerns on our audience log. This is a daily report of audience feedback that’s made available to many BBC staff, including members of the BBC Executive Board, programme makers, channel controllers and other senior managers.

The audience logs are seen as important documents that can help shape decisions about future programming and content.

Thanks again for taking the time to contact us.

    Kind Regards
Will That was the reply to this: Full Complaint: A few years ago I made a complaint about your coverage of Gamu Nheng, The coverage of the deportation of Yashika Bageerathi seems to show that nothing at all has changed in your reporting on these cases. The story was covered on BBC Breakfast. All we heard was a teacher and a pupil from the school she attends telling us she is good at Maths. There was no illumination as to why the family ended up in the UK and not any other country. The coverage continues tonight in exactly the same vein. To inform your viewers I was under the impression that all sides of a story should be represented. As usual we are not informed of the legal position or shown a representative of the Border agency. The coverage leans heavily on trying to pull at heart strings and very little else. Can you therefore explain to me why only one side of this story has been aired.

This is in fact a template reply as I’ve had exactly the same response on several occasions. They want to give all the information for the viewer to make up their mind. But then have time restraints to reflect all the views. How exactly is that unbiased and giving all the information? Were the significant views rigorously tested? The answer is obviously no. All they did was run a sob sob story, which as I stated earlier lead at least viewer to think they were talking about a 14-15 year, old not an adult. I do believe I will re-complain as I do not think this represents a reasonable reply.
For anyone who has not complained in the past about something you unhappy about this is an example of the kind of fob off you will get. If indeed you get a reply at all a few years ago I was having to follow up complaints that I had made only to receive no reply and then find the reference number had been deleted. At the end of the day we are paying a licence fee for a service like this. All I want at the end of the day is to be given both sides of a story so I can make my own mind up, is that really asking too much?

It is a double insult. First they are biased – always in one direction.

Then they have a complaints system that is deliberately designed to fob off the public, delay, waffle – and generally avoid dealing properly with the complaint.

Arrogance all round. Close them down.

The BBC complaints system only takes you seriously when you re-complain and persist that your complaint is taken to a higher level.
You are within your rights as a publically funded broadcaster should be giving you a service that is fit for purpose ie giving both sides of a story so that you can make your mind up.

Let us know how you get on !

It’s Sunday morning the Members of Dave Towers are up and ready for parambulations around the estate. Just turn on BBc breakfast before I leave . Oh the BBc news wheel is back on FOOD Waste!!!, Anyone following my rantings will remember I complained some time ago when this story first came to my attention and a presenter at a waste depot failed to find any significant waste. Of course as usual when I complain I was wrong. Since then this story pops up with regularity on BBc Breakfast Bingo stories. These are Fatty food now including sugar, alcohol & obesity. Hang on they have footage of food waste this time. But wait what is being dumped? Pumpkins. Yes pumpkins. I for one would expect these to be dumped as I imagine the majority are made into lanterns. Mrs Dave666 did make pumpkin pie but Mr Dave666 thought it was pooh.and carried on eating his Quail. The call is for supermarkets to ban two for one offers the inference being buy one throw one away. Dave666 towers still has the solution to this….it’s called a freezer.

Thanks Lynette Dave666 is a veteran of complaining to the BBc dating back to 2008 with the shockingly abysmal even by BBc standards “white season”. This program http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00r3qyw
I found to be one of the worst cases of propaganda since the third Reich. Carefully selected English workers (the BBc said they were not) taken on to do jobs, that migrants were doing, that the majority of them were obviously going to fail at (the BBc said that was not the intended outcome). That lead to a continued series of complaints by Dave 666 against what Dave666 viewed as anti-English bias. You know the Albanian chef shown stating The English are lazy etc etc.. Of course the outcome was as always that I was wrong. I will of course always post the results and communications of any complaint I make on line as I always say we are paying for this.

      An interesting post Dave.

I gave up complaining to the BBC in exasperation some years ago – so well done to you (and others) that continue the fight.

By comparison I had cause to complain to my local ITV broadcaster Meridian a year or two ago. The item concerned the work of Aldermaston. At the end of the piece was an interview outside the gates with an anti nuclear protester. He was allowed to say his piece with no questioning, no balance, no reply from the AWE. It was a farrago of unchallenged assumptions.

Well I complained. I got an apology, an acknowledgment that my points were valid and that such an unbalance report would not happy again.

      How refreshing.

I try to limit my complaints to the worst instances of bias, so that the BBC complaints department doesn’t think ‘Oh, here is that loon again’. I don’t think it makes any difference to the success of complaining (zilch) but I just hope they then have more weight (hope but with little confidence).

Deborah, I know you know but just to stress that volume of complaints is irrelevant to how they should be treated if valid.
Allowing the BBC the notion of a legitimate complaint being anything else than just that, or there are ‘grades’, simply plays into their hands.
The sooner it sinks in that they get complaints because the BBC keeps stuffing up and not learning from mistakes (possibly by the BBC complaints department consigning everything by default to the file they pretend the editors read), the sooner sanity is restored to the actual asylum with the loons in charge that is CECUTT.

Not sure that the number of complaints doesn’t make a difference. Some years ago, when Channel 4 noted that 12 people from “your side” complained which was “an unusually high number” there was a much more detailed response to the complaint. .

Broadcasting house this morning, and ALL the guests, plus the reporter are ‘horrified’ that UKIP are so popular and that they might have some MPs elected at the next election.

The host gives them free reign to explain why they are ‘horrified’, and comes the reply – “well he said that 75% of laws are made in Brussels when they’re not”. Illustrating perfectly the ridiculous language being used by those who are personally terrified that someone with an opinion different to their left wing fascism might be elected.

Well, lets be honest. It’s no surprise that the BBC will give a soapbox to any anti -UKIP talking head that happens to be strolling past Broadcasting House – that Ivory Tower of institutionalised cant and hypocrisy. The BBC and the “progressive” establishment love the EU, have contempt for the masses and disdain for democracy. All the stops will be pulled out between now and May to try and undermine the anti EU message.

As for the hyperbole – well we can all remember the lunatic Labour ranting about “24 Hours to Save the NHS”.

I heard them using the word “terrified” of UKIP.

      What metro wusses !

The only reason given,, by one of the nonentities (where do they find them?), was that Farage had claimed that 70% of our laws now start in Brussels. But that is exactly what an EEC Commissioner claimed a month or so ago. So even if Farage was exaggerating a bit, the thrust of his argument is valid. We have lost much of the sovereignty of Parliament on which our ancient constitution had evolved.

What they should be terrified or horrified at is the outright lie by Clegg who was claiming that only 7% of our laws are driven by the EU. That is a deliberate, pre-planned misstatement by the Deputy PM. Not a minor understatement – a total porkie.

Dick, it’s worth mentioning that not all ‘sodomists’ go in for the practice – in fact, far from it. Also, I’d be interested to know what proportion of heterosexuals go in for the practice – I think you might be surprised to learn the figures.

As a non-sodomising queer myself, I often find the naked homophobia sometimes displayed on these boards quite insulting, but I realise that, in sense, wishing to be a part of a free-speaking forum like this carries certain caveats; as a UKIP-voting queer who still has broad agreement with the party’s position on ‘gay marriage’ (civil partnerships gave me all the equality in law I needed to feel ‘included’ and I still see no need for the LGBT ‘community’ to pick a fight with Christianity – Islam is another matter entirely), and as someone who is also steadfastly opposed to the EU, CAGW and the BBC’s institutional liberal fascism, I’m fairly used to having to grin and bear occasional insults along the way…it would be nice, however, to see a little more restraint in the use of such generalisations which equates all homosexuals as ‘sodomists’. It just isn’t the case. Just as it isn’t for all heterosexuals.

Phil, whenever I read some of the strongest anti-gay comments on this site, I blush and think how unfair on you and any other gay contributors. The problem is that there appears to be a higher than average number of gays and lesbians who appear on the BBC and push the gay and lesbian agenda beyond what is reasonable. Evan Davies, for example, seems to bring his own sexuality into the number of items about gays on the Today programme, whereas as far as I am aware Jane Hill on the TV news could be gay, straight or some where in between and it really doesn’t matter.

There is also a new Survation poll in the Mail on Sunday which has Westminster voting intentions of CON 29%(-5), LAB 36%(+1), LDEM 10%(+1), UKIP 20%(+4) and European voting intentions of CON 21%(-6), LAB 34%(+2), LDEM 9%(+2), UKIP 27%(+4)

Topline [UK] voting intentions are CON 34%, LAB 39%, LDEM 9%, UKIP 12% – a five point Labour lead

[Europe] UKIP have opened up a five point lead over the Conservatives in third place: CON 23%(-1), LAB 30%(-2), LDEM 9%(-2), UKIP 28%(+5).

If you took only those certain to vote the position would be even better for UKIP, putting them in first place on 34% to Labour’s 27% and the Conservatives in a distant third.
