I am off to Hong Kong and then to Australia on Tuesday so blogging will be MUCH less frequent for the rest of this month. I hope the other B-BBC writers will keep you entertained but I will be travelling for next 24 hours.

David, when you get there, please confirm that Australia still exists, as BBC-NUJ now subsume that country online under the classification of ‘Asia’, where it is rarely mentioned.

If you have time – go visit one or two of the islands. eg Lantau, the biggest.
Have a great time.
I was first there in the RAF in 1961 – when Wanchai hardly had electricity ! What a huge change – it has been credited to a mixture of the hard graft and commitment – and sheer intelligence – of the Chinese, plus their willingness to take business risks, PLUS British traditions of the rule of law, a contract is a contract, private property etc. The roots of Western capitalism.
