Question Time LiveBlog 8th December 2011

Question Time tonight comes from Stoke-On-Trent.

On the panel Conservative PPS to the Defence Secretary Claire Perry, Labour MP Tristram Hunt, black part-time judge Constance Briscoe, Chief Executive of Next Lord Simon Wolfson (who takes the Conservative whip) and nutty race-baiter Mehdi Hasan.

It’s been a long time since the panel has been so spectacularly unspectacular. Honestly, you wouldn’t recognise a single one of them if they stood next to you on the Tube.

Today is General Election day in Gibraltar so TheEye has been hobbling around on crutches wearing a rosette all day. I will try to join the chat Moderation panel from the count via the BatPhone but no promises as I’m moderating a similar chat on the Gib results at the same time. Busy busy busy. And not in a good way.

David Vance and David Mosque are Duty Moderating Heroes for yet another evening…

It’s a 10:30pm kick off. You know where to be. And how much alcohol to bring.

Given what’s happening in Brussles, you’d have thought they’d have a eurosceptic in the panel…

Even though every time the issue of an EU referendum or just getting out comes up the QT audience claps in approval, the BBC still thinks that they know the public mood and that it’s overwhelmingly pro-EU.  The best you get out of Cameron and Co. is the notion of “clawing back” some vague, undefined powers from the EU, which nobody thinks will ever happen.  So the producers probably see no need for a Euroskeptic at all.

    This  Medhi HASAN:

Mehdi Hasan Exposed. Part I – Atheists and disbelievers are “cattle” and “of no intelligence”

Also, Melanie Phillips has this about him:

“Also in the Guardian, Mehdi Hasan identified the ‘preachers of hate and division’ — not as Islamist fanatics but as those who warn against them. The only victims mentioned in this article were not the murdered Americans on 9/11, nor the Muslim and other victims of Islamist terrorism across the world, but Muslims in Britain who were now apparently too terrified to speak in public for fear of being labelled an extremist (with the exception, it seems, of Mehdi Hasan).”

ROBERT BROWN; Damn George, stole my thunder! This two-bit muslim hate-monger is a disgrace, and i sincerely hope MI5/6 have got the bastard on a watch list. Just watch this no-mark on youtube and imagine thousands just like him, because they are out there, just waiting, waiting. Paranoid? I was told by a muslim in 1977 that they will take this country eventually because we [you] are so weak. Never forgotten that. Do not be fooled by these snakes, they are determined and resolute, resist them at every turn, the guy that was going to blow up a mosque was a fool, he got caught.

Claire Perry was pretty good on Newsnight the other night, re the credit crash.
She was up against some dozy Keynesian and gave him a psting whenever Paxman let her loose on the old grandee.
I`ll give her a few minutes at least in the hope that she is a rare ray of hope in the moribund and useless Tories.
She might get Dimblebys pacemaker going a bit with a bit of luck too!

Last time I saw Mehdi Hasan (educ Merchant Taylors’ School and Christ Church, Oxford) on television he was making the point that political leaders who went to public school and Oxford were out of touch.

I also expect they’ll find time for a question about whether the Tory MP for Eastbourne, who has been found to have put out a defamatory leaflet about the Lib Dem former MP he unseated at the last election, should resign and trigger a by-election. Actually sorry, I’ve just realised I’ve got that the wrong way round, it was a Lib Dem MP defaming a former Tory MP, so best to just move on and not mention it.

Shame it was not the last EVER!! It is well past its sell by date. In the early days it was a vehicle where an audience made up of the general public could question cabinet ministers and democratically elected politicians. It is now a farce where the audience is vetted for its left wing views and the panel is made up of people who mainly represent no one.
