The BBC is a strange creature. It is profoundly anti-Christian, in my view, and as detailed in these pages over the years, but yet it has a certain fondness for the Anglican Church just so long as that institution careens off in a nihilistic leftist direction. It has been fawning in covering the commentary by well known economist Rowan Williams in the FT this morning in which he backs the farcical “Tobin Tax”. On Today this morning it brought on that wholly fool Bishop of London Dr Richard Chartres (7.50 a.m.) who was made to essentially apologise for not immediately having gone on-side with the anarcho-communist rabble outside St. Paul’s! Chartres was an embarrassment who grovelled and in essence came out supporting “the ideas” of the protesters. So, with the St. Paul’s theological establishment dripping wet and opposing Capitalism, and with Rowan Williams doing his best to ruin our Banking system, a warm reception from the BBC is almost guaranteed. I would go further and suggest that just as the BBC has rotted away from within, embracing leftism instead of pursuing impartial reporting, so has the COE rotted away and St.Paul’s stands aloft as a glorious whited sepulchre.

I am too early for the Play Again so I will be paraphrasing what was said on Today. But the religious correspondent quoted some unnamed clergyman who said that their main reason for being in the Church was ‘care of the poor’. Richard Chartres a few minutes later said that the main reason for the Church was the ‘praise and glorification of G-d’ which as a non -Christian is what I believe but if the relgious correspondent’s quote is correct one can see why the CofE has been hijacked by the Left.

I`d not agree with all she said, but still…very good, more scriptures/minute than any other one recently!
Trouble is that the likes of Robert Piggott get put in as buffer zones between real faith like Annes…and the God hating BBC.
So Robert gets his two cents worth…and Richard Chartres that follows seems all to keen to make reference to all the red herrings of Piggott…whilst ignoring that Anne had said previously.
If these Oxbridge types like Richard had actually listened to the laity like Anne Atkins…we`d not have been in this mess.
And as long as all Chartres utterances are limited to what the media would have him say…then he and his like will bring the church crashing round down their headphones in the radio car!
He made a few good points, but needs to do a lot better if the BBC/Guardian are to be stopped from peddling their agaenda-which has no plans to include Cathedrals any more than it does churches.

Chartres line about the church being used to near death experiences was witty-and his point about the churches finding themselves as proxies in moral battles that society dare not fjght anywhere else were good.
But as I say(with more errors above!)…the likes of Anne Atkins matter far more to him than the prep school claptrap of Sarah Montague.
Yet “Deep shall call unto deep”(Ps42.7)…so Chartres and the like will either improve or be removed.
The BBC will not have that choice…it will be gone within 5/10 years, please God!

It is amusuing to see the confusion within the C of E. Nothing new it has been confused since the days of Henry V111.
