When she is on the QT she comes across as a loon, anyone with their finger on the pulse of the middle east (and it’s a complex pulse), should realise that she’s fundamentally right with what she says.

I still think this all boils down to multiculturalism or as Pat Condell says, “Everyone worry about what Islam thinks”.

Marvellous constructive criticism.  People with Melanie Phillips’ courage deserve far, far better.

She is one of very few brave voices that raise their heads above the parapet while the vast majority who agree with her remain cowed and keep their heads down.  What I get a sense of at times when I hear her is someone who feels the isolation and vulnerability of being so exposed when so few have the courage to speak out against the evil we see gathering pace in the world.

Perhaps if people like yourself Sr Sres showed her the respect and support she so richly deserves her bold articulate voice might be yet bolder and more articulate still, to the benefit of all who love civilisation?

Or do you prefer to remain with your head below the parapet in cowardly, self satisfied, sanctimonious, boorish ingorance?

      You’re a charmer.

Fixed?  It’s in the eye of the beholder I guess.  Those who view moral conviction as looney will certainly regard Mel P in this way.  Those who dont, wont.  Positive appreciation for Mel P’s eloquence and courage will help to offset the evil-minded people who bear her ill-will.  You might as well throw in your lot with the forces of evil now otherwise, you’re half way there already if this is as positive as you can be about someone whose a far better person than you or I could ever hope to be.

hippiepooter, both Phil and Sres agree with you I’m sure, I feel you have totally misinterpreted what they mean; however Phil’s correction of what Sres meant (we presume) is perfectly sound. Nobody is saying she’s a loon, not even close.

I’m sure that in their own way Sres y Phil do share my agreement with what Mel says, just not the respect I have for the courage and eloquence she has to say it.  Echoing the thoughts of her malicious detractors no matter how its ‘meant’ is just pig ignorant stupidity.  With the exception of DV, she’s got more gonads than the lot of us here put together.  A little less saloon bar boorishness and a little more empathy and respect where its due is what I’m saying.

I guess what I’m saying is that there’s a cost for someone sticking their head as way above the parapet as she has done.  It would be nice if noone here who purports to share her views adds to that cost.  Do you think she goes on QT for personal amusement?  Anyone with a degree of empathy and self-respect would know that gratitude and support is all that is called for.

              • Sres says:

Yes misinterpreted, as said she comes across as a right wing loon because that is how QT categorise her.  That chair on the far right of the panel is the one that all the evil leftie audience stare at (must be quite horrible to sit there).

I haven’t seen much of her short of QT & the odd snip from YouTube.

I completely agree with her views on Israel and how the BBC & MSM rally to Islam at all costs.

I think we have to be very careful not to inadvertantly contribute to her marginalisation by the Nazi Left and its useful idiots.  She’s linked to B-BBC before, so we can assume she does read this from time to time.  If you look at your first sentence again you’ll see its lays itself wide open to ‘misinterpretation’.

                  Thanks for clarifying though.

    Of course Melanie is right!
You want to try wearing a IDF T shirt to the pub like I did last summer, not to cause trouble, just never thought about it.

You get strangers making snide or comments on Israel. Luckily I,m 6.2 and very fit so I stand my ground. I spent an hour arguing my case with a bloke who new nothing about the history of Israel, when I mentioned the Ottoman Empire and the Balfour Declaration, he just hadn’t a clue.

Last week a nurse who knows I’m a supporter of Israel came up to me in the pub and said did you watch The Promise on TV. Yes I said, it was a load of bollocks. But I spent an hour explaining  why. I think I,m making progress because she seemed impressed.

One of the points I continually make to these people is, You must not listen to the BBC because it is  biased against Israel.

    Melanie does have a point.

What Isreal should do is commision an in depth report detailing BBC bias, have a diplomat had it to the British government and ban BBC reporters from Israel stating they will be allowed back into the country when the report accurately. First would be the BBC learning what a terrorist is.

No David, haven’t seen it.  How very, very true every word she said.  We’ve seen examples posted here in recent days of the insiduous way Jon Donnison tries to turn whatever story into anti-Israel propaganda, even proto-genocidal violence against an Israeli family.

Is it really so difficult to keep a track of the worse offenders, and when the time is right present a dossier on them to ban them from Israel for their complicity in proto-genocidal violence against Israelis?  Plenty of risks in doing so if it isn’t handled exactly right, but far riskier not to.  It’s quite clear to anyone with objective discernment that Donnison views Israeli territory as pencilled in for death camp construction and wants to play his part in it.

Another example of the BBC not losing a chance to have a dig at Israel:

Israel passes law revoking citizenship for spying

I don’t remember the BBC ever covering this story:

US mulls law to revoke citizenship of terror supporters

    Or:

    WASHINGTON, May 6, 2010
Lawmakers: Revoke Citizenship of Terrorists Legislation Would Strip Citizenship From Terrorists and Those Working for Foreign Terrorist Organizations

Funny how the same thing happening in Obama’s America gets no coverage while the BBC has no trouble quoting all manner of “human rights” groups when its done in Israel…

I sense “group courage” on the Left.

Attacking Israel would put you on a par with being a Nazi. Doesn’t feel good. On the other hand, demonizing Israel by painting Palestinians as victims of Israeli aggression, now that is a Get out of Jail Free card. You can slander and attack Jews, but with “good reason”.

You are free to be a Nazi but can look yourself in the mirror. You continue to be “a good person”.

Mel spoils their script, which is why they hate her with a vengeance. Just like the ecofascist trolls do on Dellers.

Melanie Phillips might be taken a bit more seriously if every time she pointed the finger there weren’t another four fingers pointing back at her.

Two minutes into the interview she rails against the “western media” for what she sees as the “demonisation” and “dehumanisation” of Israel.

If true, that would indeed be despicable.

But then 40 seconds later she accuses the “western media” of being; “in league with the forces of of evil and darkness”.

    Hypocrisy; your name is Mel.

Where’s the hypocrisy? Both of Mel’s statements are entirely consistent in highlighting the fact that the Western media hates Israel and actively promotes the aims of those who deal in evil in dehumanizing Israel.

I agree 100% with what she has to say about the British media; For example today Hamas have handed out the death sentence to a couple of blokes (suspected) of working for Israel. Now if these men had been sentenced in the good old US, the bBC would be airing doubts of their guilt, that they couldn’t get a fair trial for being..Black, Poor, Islamic, British etc… They would have numerous articles from human rights NGOs telling us all that the death sentence is barbaric. (And yet the only country in the Levant which doesn’t have the death sentence is..Israel)

Also in the news is how Israel is aiming to be the third country to get to the moon by 2012, how they are planning to build a small island off Gaza so that the inhabitants of Hamas central have their own dockyard and airport away from Israel and how the Israeli anti-missile system as fitted to its tanks stopped an anti-tank missile (thought to be a kornet the other day)

Yet the bBC doesn’t mention any of these news items. You can however bet your bottom dinar that they will report the death of a terrorist who was fleeing from his home-made rocket launch on a motorbike when he found out the hardway that 2 wheels will never beat a Precision guided missile (PGM) in the speed states.

So how many people here knew that William Hague said this yesterday:

The $64,000 question (OK £39,760 – be pedantic) is will the UK either vote against or at least abstain (cowards!) from the coming UNSC and UNSC resolutions recognising a state of Palestine on the 1967 ‘borders’ (ceasefire lines) including capital in Jerusalem and ‘return’ of refugees to the state of Israel? It requires >50% of UNSC members to veto/abstain to avoid this passing to the UNGA where it ‘will’ pass.

If the UNSC or UNGA resolutions pass, will the United Kingdom take part in trade sanctions (a lot more serious than a AHAVA boycott) and/or military action against her “friend and strategic partner”?

The  BBC certainly hasn’t reported on either Cameron’s or Hagues pro-Israel pronouncements, so the general public will never know.

  18. John Peters says:

I am extremely concerned that eventually Israel will have to go in to Gaza against Hamas to protect its citizens against increasing rocket and mortar attacks. There will be conflict,  it’s only a matter of time. Hamas’s border with Egypt  is now protected by the Muslim brotherhood and is being rearmed via that border, with more and more sophisticated weapons. As during operation  cast lead Hamas will conduct its war against Israel within and amongst  civilian’ and targeting Israeli civilians. When this conflict occurs the Libyan concept of protecting civilians will come into play with the “international community, “ having set the precedent in Libya feeling free to attack Israel to “protect” Palestinian civilians!!.  And Hamas/Muslim brotherhood..(the same beast) know this. At the same time Hezbollah will have there day by attacking Israel.

Wow the International community will have to protect Lebanese civilians as well.. How will the BBC handle this!! They will just have to bring back Orla Guerin to support Jeremy Bowen

    • deegee says:

Will the ‘International Community” take action to save civilians in Gaza? I don’t think so. I believe the ‘real’ reason the coalition is taking action in Libya is because they can with minimal danger to its own troops. that is at least one of the reasons they don’t in Iran or North Korea. The Libyan military is third world and we know exactly what they have – largely because we sold it to them.

No one wants to take on Israel in direct combat because despite the BBC’s best efforts the public won’t back it and will not willingly absorb the casualties. How will Hague explain the body bags?

What may happen is the British may piously refuse Israel to replace supplies through a British port. They have the French precedent. Can’t you just see the tears (for once the BBC will back the Conservatives) as Hague explains the total arms  embargo to save civilians?

So, in the eyes of beeboids, she is supplied with ample rope to hang herself. Given the infrequency with which robust ‘conservatives’ crop up, I would describe MP’s and DM’s relatively regular appearances as ‘plausible deniability’ in many cases.

Mel P is a regular on ‘The Moral Maze’ because Michael Buerk is old school BBC.
