PINK IONA

Thought for the Day is usually a political exercise, not a moral or religious one. The other morning the BBC gave Anne Atkins the chance to argue for the Burqa in the UK (yes, no kidding) and today we had John Bell of the Iona community on to advance the latest Stonewall agenda item that the media is too harsh on how it portrays gays. TFTD is simply politics by other means and it is remarkable how few real voices of dissent get the chance to ever express an opinion on it. Why not replace with with a 3 minute silence, it would be more constructive?

A very sad degeneration – I’m sure I remember when TFTD was a genuine ‘thought’ to get one musing about life, the universe and everything!  Even Lionel Bloom seems to have started going native now.

    Spot on, David.

One of the favourites of Islam Not British Broadcasting Corporation (INBBC)  is, of course, Muslim MONA SIDDIQUI:

I couldn’t care less whether someone is straight or gay.  I’m just sick of the BBC harping on about it.  Why are they so obsessed?  (Don’t answer that, Martin!)

      Roland,

You are right.  It is an obsession with the BBC.  Certainly in my day-to-day life the topic hardly ever comes up and I am sure most normal people hardly ever give it a thought.

I wouldn’t be too optimistic about Martin not answering your question !

As somebody who has tuned into BFBS in one form or another since 1980 I’ve heard more than my share of TFTD, yet never have I heard one about the beauty of oppressing others. But then every speaker I’ve ever heard has been from a religious background and not a media one.

I think that the Today Programme would be even more improved by three hours of silence not just three minutes.

The feminist movement is a total joke, can anyone remmeber any woman speaking out about how women are treated under Islam and the Sharia?

It’s why I don’t give a toss about womens rights and I certainly don’t see why young MEN should be dying supposidly so Afghan females can be educated. Let the feminist movement go fight for the ‘sistas’

There are a few peole who would definitely not say that Benjamin Britten was a positive influence in their lives.

But the Iona guy is right on the money about how the BBC portrays homosexuals.  I think we all remember the Today segment not long ago when Evan Davis and Iain Dale were having a little gay giggle about David Laws and his landlord lover.  There was plenty of winking and nudging about how they took it for granted that promiscuity was the way of their world and straights just didn’t get it.   Oh, wait, that wasn’t what this guy was talking about, right?  Must have meant the sitcoms.

Graham Norton wouldn’t be on the BBC at all if he didn’t play up the dirty talk, as he appears to have no other talents.  The list on the BBC is endless.  However, what about Queer Ass Folk? Wasn’t that supposed to be an heroic portrayal of the real world of homosexuals?  That show was full of the behavior this guy is complaining about as being harsh caricature. Who’s kidding who, really?

BBC assumes Sherlock Holmes is a Beeboid:

Not sure any drama would get commissioned on the BBC without a gay slant.

So nice to see what is representative in the BBC gets projected in their output of how the country should be.

Yes it is an aspect of society, worthy of respecting with all others, but hardly the national obsession portrayed.

Especially on so many Beeboid twitter feeds, which seem more like Benny Hill skits.

Didn’t This Week have a humorous video segment making a similar joke?
