Fearless Frankie

Our friend Frankie Boyle has been defending his freedom of speech. Or his right to insult Rebecca Adlington’s appearance. Why he ever thought that was funny in the first place escapes me, but he puts the rebuke he has had from the BBC Trust down to a clampdown on cutting edge satire.
What his quip about Ms. Adlington’s nose has to do with satire also escapes me, but he has a point about the directive that the BBC has issued which he calls the “don’t frighten the horses” edict.

I’m all in favour of frightening horses if it means we get something good on TV. But not from Frankie Boyle. His views on Afghanistan and other political topics we can do without.

I am not a fan of Frankie Boyle but at least he has balls unlike Dara O’Briain on the Mock The Week page on Dave – http://notasheepmaybeagoat.blogspot.com/2009/10/big-brave-comedians.html

It’s not Frankie’s views that bother me. It’s that we can hear the same view sfrom dozens of other comedians who are on BBC TV and Radio. There is very nearly no diversity in comedy output form the BBC. A staple diet of left-wing bilge is pretty much all there is.

Modern satire is to sarcasm and insult what modern anti-social behaviour is to violent crime.

So Sue, you just want the BBC to hold views you agree with?

    That would be umm…bias

i find him pretty funny honestly, heard his live show was sorta naff though.  Pluuus he got emily maitlis, mmmm, to say the line ‘i’m now so old my pussy is haunted’ on newsnight 😀

sorry, but i’m easily amused 😛

I don’t think the real story is about Frankie and the suitability of his jokes.  The story for me is how the beeb is effectively censoring the news as to what subjects are raised and ridiculed.

(Personally I like Frankie’s close to the bone humour.)

I agree with you Mr. Bloggs. That’s exactly right. It’s PC gone wrong. I like close to the bone satirical and even very childish, if it’s original and funny.

Could a pointless personal insult about the someone’s  appearance amuse anyone over nine years old?  She wasn’t even someone who warranted being taken down a peg.

Actually Frankie Boyle and Co can be funny, but they are lazy and drag out tired old material that relies on tired old assumptions.

Bob, You are doing the same thing, dragging that out again. No, I don’t want the BBC to agree with me all the time but can tell the difference between something original and funny, and something lazy and predictable whether I agree with it or not.

Some of them can be quite funny, if they steer clear of politics, but otherwise they are just a bunch of boringly predictable BBC left-wing clones with identikit political views who seem to spend most of their time laughing at each other.

FBoyle is just  a smug ‘failed at the fringe’ tosser.

His edgy is everybody elses sad and desperate. Taking the P out of a swimmers face is really ‘sticking it to the man’

I dont even mind the joke much but its just his constant stream of leftwing drivel which grates on me.
