ALL AT SEA..

The EU’s Common Fishing Policy has been an unmitigated disaster from just about every angle one can imagine. It has, of course, decimated the British Fishing Industry, but just as importantly wreaked havoc across our seas. So I found this item this morning to be far too generous to the EU, and I also wondered why the RSPB was chosen to be the voice for opinion? Are there NO British fishermen left that could be interviewed? Yes, I know that Dunne was critical of the politicians micro-management of Fishing policy but his critique did not go far enough in also exposing the vast corruption and cynical manipulation of the CFP. The BBC is reluctant to debate the gargantuan scale of corruption, inefficiency and lawlessness that pervades the EU and today this was just one small example.

WHAT A GAY DAY

I fully accept that there are different opinions on the issue of whether active homosexuals should be Ministers of religion. So the current debate happening in the Church of Scotland merits consideration from both sides. I was disappointed but not surprised to listen to this item on BBC Today this morning which is plainly only offering a PRO-gay lifestyle perspective. Surely the BBC should have provided a debate on the issue rather than a cosy liberal consensus?

WHISTLING WALKING PAST THE GRAVEYARD..

BBC coverage of the utterly supine reaction of the US and UN to North Korea nuke tests predictable. It’s amazing how the BBC provides such an easy pass to the International set when it attacked everything Bush tried to do. In this golden era of Obama I presume that UN meetings that produce “stern” communications will substitute nicely for any action being taken. I bet Kim Jong Very Ill and the gang will be devastated to hear that the UN Security Council is – as we speak – thinking about issuing a new even tougher resolution.

HAIL KIM JUNG VERY ILL

Had to laugh at this interview conducted by the BBC this morning with Foreign Office Minister Bill Rammell concerning North Korea’s underground nuke test. Talk about being given an easy ride! North Korea has shown total contempt for the “International Community” and in particular is thumbing it’s nose at Obama and his soft power approach to the issue. But the BBC cannot go too deep into this one since it makes The One look ALMOST as wimpish as Rammell.

Same Old Same Old

Q. What do you remember about the slap on the wrist given to the BBC by the BBC Trust’s Editorial Standards Committee?

A. Some of the complaints about bias in the Middle east Editor’s reporting were upheld.

All well and good. What has happened since? Has Jeremy Bowen changed? Has he been demoted? Has the reporting become less biased?
The Zionist Federation and the intrepid Jonathan Turner who tussled with the BBC for almost two years over this are not happy.

On April 16th they issued a press release stating exactly why they were not satisfied with the BBC’s response. Or lack thereof.

For example rephrasing of the web article was inadequate and not in accord with the trust’s findings.
The BBC recognises that ” there is no consensus view of history” and that “there are others who have different analysis – which of course they are entitled to.”
But Jeremy Bowen does not refer to the existence of “different analyses” Does he even realise there are any?

The Zionist Federation contends that the BBC’s biased reporting over the years has contributed to overt and covert hostility towards Israel and Jews, which has led to the racist acts against British Jews which they have statistically documented.

Even those who dispute that will wonder why so little has changed, and why Jeremy Bowen is still the BBC’s Middle East editor.

Selectivity

I don’t recall the BBC giving much attention to the banning of Facebook by the Iranian regime. However, all today they have been supposedly reporting on a supposed string of murders committed by a woman in Iran, supposedly inspired by Agatha Christie books.

No context is given for this story- it’s seen as a curiosity and also a news story as “She has been described as Iran’s first female serial killer”. She has? By whom exactly we don’t know. To me this seems all too convenient for Mr Ahmadinejad as he approaches an election. “See what those dogs have done to us again”, you can imagine his media whispering in the public ear (or Ahmadinejad declaring in public). An excuse for censorship. A means to blame the West for their society’s ills. A symbol of the encroachment of western ‘diseases’.

Yet the BBC’s man in Tehran, Jon Leyne, sees fit to report it deadpan, “Just like Agatha Christie’s villains, she made careful plans to conceal her crimes”. Yeah, that’s right Jon, only Agatha Christie villains ever plan their crimes carefully. It must be her fault (I mean Christie’s, obviously). Oh, and notice the absence of the word “allegedly”. Perhaps in Iran that’s not necessary.

DEMONISING ROMAN CATHOLICISM..

I’m not a Roman Catholic but I am sure that any RC who is currently listening to the Nicky Campbell “Big Question” on BBC1 will be outraged at the deliberate manner in which the Church is being demonised following the revelations of abuse carried out by priests in Ireland. The child abuse in the Irish Republic is, of course, utterly appalling but let’s be clear about it – the BBC is jumping on this one in it’s ..shall we call it a crusade? … to marginalise all forms of the Christian faith. I look forward to Nicky Campbell running an item on Islam’s paedophile origins and it’s continued abuse of boys and girls. That should be a must watch programme.

CAT ON MARRS…

Just spotted he who was Cat Stevens now Yusef Islam on the Andrew Marr show, giving us a song for a Sunday morn. Wonder if Andrew asked Yusef if he is still a profound anti-Semite and Hamas enthusiast? The BBC has never met a Jew-hater they didn’t like.

GOD’S COMICS…

I read the BBC coverage of Druid Williams and Sentamu urging people NOT to vote for the BNP. This is presented as a moral intervention in national politics but I wondered why the BBC’s highly paid theological correspondents have not enquired why the holy duo did not take similar action to stop people voting for the pro-Jihad Respect Party or the pro-IRA Sinn Fein Party? Could it be that this thin veneer of theological bubble is being applied to cover up what is a naked political and establishment driven intervention in the European election? Why is the BNP uniquely targeted by the Anglican Church and why does the BBC not open up this debate more broadly to ensure ALL odious groups are examined under the gaze of a moral/theological microscope? In my book, the BNP is going to gain as fools like Williams bleat to no avail. I do not agree with that the BNP say, but I support their right to say it. Evidently our Church leaders feel differently but the reasoning behind their pious comments is never examined.
