BBC TRADITIONS

Hey Soap opera fans – good news!

“EastEnders is to tackle one of the last taboos left in soap, with a storyline featuring a Muslim character embarking on a gay love affair. MediaGuardian.co.uk can reveal that the plot, which will hit screens in mid-June, will see Syed Masood, a Muslim property developer with a girlfriend who arrived in Albert Square six weeks ago, fall for openly gay Christian Clarke. The pair will share an on-screen kiss.

The BBC has billed the storyline as a “traditional love affair, albeit with a modern multicultural twist”. The BBC1 soap’s production team researched the plot, which is bound to prove controversial with some viewers, contacting academics, gay Muslim support groups and members of the Muslim Council of Great Britain.

So, in BBC world, gay love affairs are “traditional” – and any effort to give the multiculti Muslim twist has been handled sensitively as the dialogue with the MCB indicates. I am sure Britain’s Muslims will take the gay Islam kiss in the spirit the BBC intends, or at least I hope so.

    ‘Jihadwatch’ (Oct 27 2006)

“It’s OK to kill gays – British imam”

    [Extract]:

“The leading imam in Manchester, confirms that he thinks the execution of sexually active gay men is justified, the rights group Outrage reported.
“Arshad Misbahi of the Manchester Central Mosque confirmed his views in a conversation to John Casson, a local psychotherapist.

“Casson said: ‘I asked him if the execution of gay Muslims in Iran and Iraq was an acceptable punishment in Sharia law, or the result of culture, not religion.

“‘He told me that in a true Islamic state, such punishments were part of Islam: If the person had had a trial, at which four witnesses testified that they had seen the actual homosexual acts’.”

Eastenders researchers have got it wrong. There are no Muslim gays. Iranian leader Ahmadinejad says so

Prediction: Death threats ensue and the BBC caves in failing to run the storyline.

NO WAY will they get away with this. The muslim community will be up in arms and I doubt they will show it.

More likely will be a climb down in the next few days where they will say there was never any intention to show anything of the sort.

I certainly hope that if any normally peace loving group takes offense at this program, they can channel their demonstration of displeasure at the perpetrators and not just strike out at any blameless targets, like public conveyances.

BBC should name the Gay Muslim support group as a public service. Is there really an anti stoning league?

But (after some thought) I conclude that the Beeboid producers of this “continuing drama” (they hate “soap opera”) really do think radical Islamists are really liberal democrats with attitude.

By the way, I love the phrase “multicultural twist”. Pure BBC. They live in another world.

This is excellent. The first time a BBC vehicle tries to encourage a little Social Cohesion from the other direction – which I’ve been bitching about for ages, I know – and they use the gay angle? Why not something more useful like having a young adult female Muslim character whose family doesn’t try to kill her when she refuses to go through with an arranged marriage?

Today’s quiz: Over the last 10 years, how many gay male Muslims have been killed in Britain or in the countries to which they are sent to get married versus how many Muslim females (sexual orientation obviously not relevant here)? Which agenda is more important – gay celebration, or saving women’s lives?

  20. Dick the Prick says:

How come the gayer’s called Christian? Hardly subtle. Why didn’t they do a domestic violence meme with a muslim family called Islam? Oh no, no no no – DV isn’t statistically more significant in muslim families, not at all though it is. Hmm.

Isn’t this a complete lift from My beautiful laundrette – only 30 odd years ago? The BBC – it’s the unique way they’re shite.

I’m still awaiting the announcement that Eastenders cast will in future be 30% Bangladeshi.

In the meantime, I think this story will definitely proceed. The BBC’s commitment to the promotion/normalisation of homosexuality is much dearer to their heart. They had a gay character, Colin, right from the beginning and what an insufferable berk he was.

  24. GaryO says:

Has anyone noticed that none of the actors playing muslim characters in EastEnders are actually muslims themselves. Does it matter? I think so. Islam forbids, or severely restricts muslims from acting.

    http://www.islam-qa.com/en/ref/10836

I bet al-bbc failed to find suitable muslim actors who would act out scenes that are seen as “haram” in islam e.g heterosexual kissing, never mind scenes of gay fornication. So they found the next best thing: brown (and olive) skinned non-muslims to play muslim parts.

Why would bbc do this? Al- bbc is clearly engaged in manipulating our perspective of muslims and islam by showing muslims as fully integrated parts of British society. But if they couldn’t even find proper muslim actors to act in this way, then isn’t the reality just the opposite?

Ironically, in order to show muslims as ordinary folk, isn’t al-bbc ending up actually being disrespectful to islamic traditions?

The BBC is a terrorist organization, in all but name. Without which terrorism could not and therefore would not exist.

The BBC is the greatest single threat to traditional Islam, as it is also to traditional English or British life.

The BBC not only presents and promotes terrorism as a ‘normal’ way of ‘doing business.’ The BBC actually actively provokes acts of terrorism and distrust between differing ordinary people.

The above is not just my opinion, it is the undeniable REALITY of every day life at the BBC and the rest of the MSM. For which the self apparent FACTS of the matter speak for themselves.

It would be helpful to a truthful understanding of the situation if others could keep the above firmly fixed in their minds.

The BBC is not on the side of traditional or conservative anything whatsoever. The BBC works for the establishments SYSTEM 24 hours of every single day of the year.

Without diffidence or scruple, the BBC will take its wages of sin from the middle chamber. It will use both the right and the left to achieve its goal. For god said, in strength I will establish this mine house to stand firm forever.

“Contacting academics…” FFS why academics? Which academics? Biology professors? Nuclear physicists? Sociology professors? Or did they feel a need to “sex up” their consultation with any source they thought might add weight to their decision to run with this tosh. I want to know why they haven’t consulted the National Association of Muslim Property Developers to make sure they are comfy with Syed’s property portfolio .

Funnily enough, in the real world, too. Not that Biased BBC resides there very often.Gay men represent less than one percent of the human population. Tell me how does that let one call anything that involves less than 1% of the human population ‘traditional’, and why does the promotion and construction of a public image for the notion someone has for them as a “community” get so much air time?

Step back and you’ll notice just how pathetic it all looks.

Joe — I do have a couple of gay friends. Honest.

But isn’t a “traditional” gay love affair usually 5 minutes behind the bushes of many of London’s fine parks, such as Hampstead and Clapham.

That’s the idea I got from Joe Orton.

  38. AndrewSouthLondon says:

JN just where did you get that “less than 1%” from? Its reckoned 10% of men are partial to the pink sausage – or in this case the dark meat. Take the kiddies and pensioners out of the count, thats a whole lotta shirtlftin’ going on.

I don’t have a problem with the gay angle, its the interracial gay angle and among “Lundners” too. I don’t watch soap, but in this case I might just watch it in order to enjoy switching it off in disgust.

  39. Jack Bauer says:

Its reckoned 10% of men are partial to the pink sausage

Err, No. That’s a made-up figure originating from the child rapist enabler Kinsey back in the 1950s.

It has long since been discredited as the work of a very disturbed individual who abused children.

Though it may well be an acurate per cent for the men around your neck of the Commons near Clapham.

  40. Red Lepond says:

The usual figure is about 2-3%, but they always try and blur the edges (and so increase the numbers to 8-10%) by factoring in so-called fantasising. To me, it’s essentially a matter of aesthetics, human rights be damned. Any bloke who finds another’s hairy arse appealing has a constitutional dysfunction.

London, of course, is a magnet for all the lone gays in the village, so the figure there is disproportionately high.
